Well, "historically," for much of the 20th century this type of tool has been successfully used by jewelers. Maybe simpler models, but very useful tools. Even the home made ones work really well. I love my Pepe tools, but don't do enough wax work to justify buying this more expensive item. I agree with the no flame part and love having having a few different tips, so if you do lots of wax work this may be the perfect tool.
