I feel guilty sometimes for having so many coloring pencils but then I start thinking that I work for my money and I deserve to be happy and art makes me happy , I’m not hurting anyone or spending my money on drugs or liquor and even my husband who used to wonder why I buy different sets from time to time now surprises me sometimes with some when he sees them on sale in Amazon 😂
I completely agree. Your husband is a keeper, what a gem. You spend your money on the things that make you happy. I will never have enough pencils 😂 💖🤗
Hey Ruby, go get them if you can. I want the Lightfast, Luminance and the Holbein's and I will have them at some point when I have the money. 💖🤗
@@lucyjustaddscolour-adultco3135 I have both the Luminance and the Lightfast sets, very expensive but well worth every penny....PS don't forget to get the full 100 sets of both, I haven't got the Prismacolor or Holbein full sets yet although I do have some of them open stock, mainly only the lightfast colours, I am an artist and intend to try and sell some of my work in the not too distant future, so lightfastness is something that I have to pay close attention to.
I own Brutfuner and I actually really like them. I have no issues with layering.
I also use professional brands, Polychromos being my favourites.
Don't feel guilty for having many pencils or other art supplies, at least you make videos about them and help people make more informed decisions about what to buy! And honestly, you deserve this for the money you work for, coloring is definitely not the most expensive hobby out there. The best thing about colored pencils is that they barely have an expiration date!
You really don’t need to justify what you spend on colouring 🥰🥰 some of us others have a lot more, me for instance, now I’m retired I have no guilt on what I get. I spent part of my life bringing up children always broke, sometimes couldn’t feed myself but always spent on my children. So now I can I do spend on myself.

I can hear from the way you speak about your pencils, you are in love with your pencils, even the bad ones. Don't worry, mine are special and gorgeous to me as well. To me, pencils all have 'souls', and so do musical instruments. I always assumed that even the cheap pencils from the supermarket would be 'lightfast'. In fact, it was never a thing for me. How disappointed I was to find out that I had wasted my money on all the various supermarket sets. But I will find an artistic use for them. I have recently started buying decent pencils, I have a couple of Derwent 72 tin sets, some Derwent graphite tin sets, Derwent Graphitint, Staedtler 48 piece watercolours, Derwent Coloursoft Skintones (I am also expecting my Derwent Coloursoft 72 piece tin set to arrive tomorrow). I have quite a lot of cheap supermarket sets, both wax-based and watercolour based - I will donate them to my sister's grandchildren to colour in with. Perhaps they will be artistic in their adult life, who knows.

When your Prismacolor are stubs superglue them to the end of a longer pencil and use them all up! I do it all the time it’s so easy because there are no caps on the ends.

You deserve every one of those pencils if that's what brings you joy. You certainly bring us, subscribers, much joy. I've given up sharpening my Prismacolor pencils & only use an Exacto knife & sandpaper to get a point. Thanks again for your channel.

I love neocolors 2, inktense and prismacolours. I work hard, don’t drink or smoke so these are my gifts to myself. I get so much happiness from them. Loved when you said the Bru…(?) pencils are rubbish; appreciate the straight talking 🙏

Awesome video lucy! Loved looking at all your pencils, I agree about the black widows but as someone has said the new ones have the colour of the pencil on the end woop woop! I need to get the full set of inktense I love them x

My mom just bought the shuttle art ones. I don't believe she'll be doing a lot of layering. She's in her 70s and has some vision issues, so for someone that is truly going to be doing very basic coloring they shoudl be ok. Thought I'd share if anyone is buying for a younger child or senior adult, or who is going to be doing basic sketching.
Yes you are right they would be great for that and this is just my opinion others may really like them 💖🤗

On Amazon they have pencil cases that you can put 2 or 3 whole pencil sets in and take them when you are on the go. Makes it so much more easyer to travel. Love TS.

This video was so informative for me. I am very new to coloring…I have always loved Prismacolor pencils the most but see now the wide range of pencils. Some I’d like to try. I guess I’ve been coloring for maybe ten years or so. Anyway…really enjoyed the video
The Polycolours by Koh-i-Noor can be bought as assortments. I have their 36 set and love them; I find them soft and great for colouring. I also have their Mondeluz watercolour pencils which are great for the price, though I recently splashed out on a 36 set of Inktense and have already ordered an extra brown!

APencil extender for your short pencil is a great way to color mor comfortable and makes them last longer
Hello Lucy Just watched this video for the second time. I just so enjoyed it. I wanted to let you know about a pencil that is very reasonably priced and has beautiful colors that look like velvet on the page. Schpirerr Farben. Now even though the colors are beautiful many of them are quite deep. Also there is a limit of browns and greys. No truly light blue. A set of 96, the largest is about 60 dollars in the United States. Not enough natural greens either. Colors are so gorgeous though. Lovely range of reds, blues, violets, yellows, oranges and lots of pinks. There are a lot of greens too either deep or bright with a small amount of the natural ones. Coloring I have done with these has an inner glow. I am on my 6th picture with them in Enchanted Forest and have almost run through the greens and browns. I really must buy another set and of course there is no open stock. Anyway sorry for the length of this message but I really wanted to let you know all about them.

I loved seeing your collection, some I have in common with you. I started my collection by buying the 120 set of Marco Renoir coloured pencils, I loved the colour range, but there were three or four pencils in the set that just break when you sharpen them. So disappointing! My favourite pencils are my Derwent pencils, my birthday treat was the whole set of Lightfast pencils, more beloved than the Polychromos because of the colour range. As for Prismas, I can't warm to them, I don't know why.
Hi Jude. I am in love with Derwent and I am so in love with the pastel pencils that I got the 72 Coloursoft pencils. The colour range in the set are outstanding and they colour beautifully!
If you haven't gotten them already, the Black Widow Monarch set of 48 pancils do have dipped ends. I love those pencils, and I always have my swatch book open when I'm using the pencils, so not having the ends dipped doesn't bother me so much. One thing that I love about this company is that they listen to their customers, so that's why the later sets have the dipped ends. And why we have the Monarch set to fill in the colours.
I have just bereaved the Monarchs and yes I agree fantastic range of colours. x
Hi Lucy! Thank You very much for sharing, I have been a little confused about the shuttle Art vs the castle Art Pencils. So very happy I held off. I mostly use Arteza Expert Colored Pencils and the Black Widow Colored Pencils. 😊🌹
Hi Sherry, I love the Black Widows so much too. The Castle Arts are good but I dont have names on mine and that really bugs me, but they are nice to colour with 💖🤗
I just want to say the Derwent Inktense are not permanent, you can reactivate them when they are dry. They will not reactivate the second time or as much as watercolor pencils but they will move some. I’ve seen a lot of videos where they demonstrate this.
You said you are colouring just a year now? Well done. You do beautiful work. I bought Prisms and for my polychromos I bought a small set and just order 5 or 6 every so often from Jackson's. I am doing intense the same way and even Holbeins because I love the set of pastel colours. If one cannot afford then just buy one by one. LOL don't have anyone to gift me anything. My fave watercolour media is Neo 2's. Love that Caran dache palette!

Wow 🤩 art collection enjoy it 🤩🙏🏽I been coloring for 2 months now my wonderful daughter bought me my first coloring books & prisma color pencils, and now I love ❤️ coloring it relaxes me , and every time I go to the store I buy coloring books 📚 and art supplies.

I contacted Arteza and they are working on their open stock of certain products. So the pencils will be open stock in the future 😀
I mix everything with the Neo2 of the 15set because I can not afford the big sets. And I can get every color. 😀 You have to be creative. I am still saving for the polychromos. I now have 59/120.

I really like listening to you and your art is beautiful, I haven’t used pastels much I need to watch some videos of them, I watch the art guy too. I have a Staedtler crank handle sharpener I trust more than the electric and battery and TGAAL sharpener s. Arteza Expert pencils are dreadful to sharpen they break all the time and I stick the lead back in with superglue because I can’t bear to waste the lead. I listen to you even when I can’t colour along and am colouring something else. So good on you keep on video ing. You are good company and I find your voice relaxing.
Angela, I use the the M&R sharpener and since that I have had much less breakages of my leads. I am so pleased you enjoy watching my videos. I love sharing them with you. 🤗💖

I think the idea with the portrait set is to blend your own skin tone using the colours in the set. I’ve been colouring for over 4 years and I love the brutfuner pencils.

@@lucyjustaddscolour-adultco3135 it’s all about the layers. There a pretty good tutorial on here where someone shows you how to create skin tone with the derwent portrait and it can be transferred to any pencil set.
Lucy I really don’t think you should apologise or explain why you have pencils 🥰🥰 if you can afford them get them, I do now, I never had any spare money when I was younger I gave my children all my money one way and another now they are older they don’t care. So now I’m older I spend as much as I can on me! Because if I die they will just waste it anyway. So hey enjoy yourself as much as you are able, and if you want to use all your Prismacolor superglue short ends to the end of your replacement pencil and use it all. I do.

We should never be shamed or be worried of how much of something we might have. If its not hurting anyone or ourselves then go for it. I think having hobbies is very important for everyone to have. I know people will say why do you have so many pencils or geez I could never spend that much on those kind of supplies when really to be frank its not any of their business anyways lol lol I had a family member ask about the electric eraser and some books that I have cost because they were interested in coloring and the books were like $10 to $12 and the electric eraser was around $6 -$7 and they said wow I could never spend that kind of money on that. This was not the first time this had happened so I'd had enough because we all spend our money on what we want and so I got a little smart and said will I couldn't spend $120 to $150 several times a week eating out on a meal that last about 30mins(they have 5 kiddos)lol lol that shut them up and they've not said a word since. People just need to learn to stay in their own lane but it seems to be an impossible task anymore. Anyways don't mean to go on lol I absolutely love your collections and thanks so very much for sharing with us all. 💞💞💞💞

I have polychromos and Derwent to but brutfner are equally as good and they blend well with others. The brutfner watercolour pencils are better than any other I e tried.
I think my favourite right now are Derwent. I have just got the Coloursoft and love them!
Odd the brutfuner watercolor I tried were an utter disaster.

I probably shouldn't say this because I don't wanna jinx myself lol but I have never had one of my Prismas break while sharpening them! I use a Dahle 133 sharpener
I have the 120 Arteza and the 72 watercolour pencils and use those dry when the others get small.

You should try Faber-Castell Goldfaber for student and hobbyists. A full 48 wax pencils student set from the number one pencil manufacturer on the planet. I have brand name inluding FC and these are the next thing to them. 48 is a brillant number of pencils to start off with as you get to know your pencils and how to create colours you don't have. I really like them and they encourage me to colour. Would recommend them to anyone just starting to colour. At the moment, although they have been available, I think they have a push on to introduce them to North America. The full set are selling in the $50 range in Canada, the price goes up and down by the day. I consider them the new Prismacolor.

Girl, spend your money however you want to! 🤣 Do you or does anyone out there have any experience with Lyra Rembrandt Polycolor (oil) pencils? Expensive so I just bought the set of 12 to check them out, and I think they are beautiful. So easy to blend and I wanted to call out the 2 reds in this small set, but the 2 greens and in fact the whole selection they've included is impressive. I don't have a need to buy more at this point but a good add I think. Anyone have more experience with them? Lucy, I'm blown away by the work you did with the NeoColors - I love them too.

PFW Yes. I’ve had the full set for a couple of years. I forget to use them but when I do use them, I love them. Do you know they are open stock on the Blick website?
It infuriates me that the Lyra polycolors used to be between $50 and $60 USD for the 72 set and have gone up to $100 or more simply due to their popularity with adult coloring hobbyists. You’re right, they are a great pencil, but I refuse to pay almost double what they used to be because the company is greedy. I’ve heard the Schpirerr Farben brand pencils are very much like the Lyra Polycolors so I ordered some to see how they do.

Yes, I did'nt know I will have tons of it, at first.. I just want to have a set of graded pencils for portrait when I decided to go for colored portraits I can't stop buying different brands and also artist papers.

love pencil work . I feel a bit guilty about having to many sets but i do a lot of work both for pleasire and for charity I gave away my derwents to charity in favour of my castles 120 .how weird is that. but i found the derwent a bit grainy and scratchy . i have derwent pastel castles prisma s and faber castel and i mix and match my stuff where necessary. Hi! I just come across your channel and I really enjoyed this podcast. Right now i have the prismacolor 150, and my son bought me the 132 set, the ARTEZA 120, All the black widow sets and i also am working on getting all the castle Art sets. I also have the carolya 1y Lobby. 20, CRAYz Art 50, sargeant 50 set, a STAEDTLER 24 Aand a small set from Hobby Lobby. The Crayolas down thru the hobby lobby oyou puse when nes are used for my puzzle/color by numbers. I save my good ones for my actual coloring pages.
I have a question because i primarily like using colored pencils and i plan on eventually getting more sets. How do you decide which set to use when you start a new page? I dont have too many setes and I have a hard time. Right now the ARTEZAS ARE MY FAVORITES BUT I ALWAYS TRY TO BE FAIR, LOL

Hi Sherry, welcome to the gang! Good question.I use my Pablo pencils for pages that are smoother paper and mostly my Polys for skin as I like the way the colours look. Other than that I just choose what I feel like using really. I hope that helps 🤗💖
Such an amazing collection!! Im wondering, what pencils do you think are the most similar to polychromos? Im looking for the best alternative to them since i cant afford the big price tag, a pencil that can hold a point for fine details like hair and fur
From the collection I have, Aly, I would say the Creyart pencils are the closest, but off course this is just my opinion 🤗💖

My Absolute favorite pencils are Holbien Polychromos. Won't use Prismacolor ever again, they are premium priced and substandard quality.
I have a few more in my collection now and I still love my Polys 💖
I like your video. Test have shown that the Arteza is NOT lightfast at all. Arteza now sells them as open stock per 3 pencils on their USA and their UK website.
That is really helpful to know Md. I think if you know you dont have to buy a whole new set every time it makes using them less worrying you are going to run out of that favourite colour x x x
Derwent WC pencils have lightfast on their website with blue wool scale (6-8 = good to excellent) unfortunately, only 1/2 fall in that range. But I've heard great things so I'm going to buy then. Don't do that much commission with watercolor pencils anyway 😀

We struggle too with BW pencils I wish they dipped all the ends

It looks like the New Black Widows have dipped ends by their pictures. I am in US and were able to order them today.

I bought my nine year old grandson that 120 of Castle Art pencils that come in a case and the first thing I noticed when I unzipped their case was a strong crayon odor. I’m about ready to send them back. Is that normal for these pencils?
Hi Mary, I didnt notice any bad smells at all with these pencils, just the normal wood and crayon smell you get with all pencils. If you are not happy I would contact them. I am sure they would help you.
Yes the castle arts pencils definitely have a funny smell. It disappears eventually x
You can glue your stumpy prismacolors flat end to flat end and create a double ended pencil. That way you can continue to be able to sharpen and use the pencil completely... 😉💜 I've been doing this for years, since I was in high school and prismacolors came in a cardboard box (1980's)😳

I really like the Koh-I-Noon pencils, the 72 set was my first set of adult pencils. But they can be a bit hard on some papers. I love the Pablo's, at the moment (until Christmas) I only have the 18 count which was gifted to me. I am doing a double page spread in Secret Garden just to prove how versatile those 18 colours can be when layered up to mix different colours and shades.
That Neo II background with the flamingos is beautiful. Did you do that straight onto the page with the crayon and activate or use your pallet? I'm not getting the results I see in my head direct onto paper and I'm not sure why.
Thank you Sue. I did use the Neos straight on the page and then activated it. I then went over with a similar colour Prisma to smooth out any unwanted blemishes 🤗💖

the castle art are wax based. i would recommend both. they are both lovely to use. sorry for the late reply the internet is awful here.

Hi Maria, it really is a matter of what you like to colour with. The Derwent Coloursoft are lovely but I personally love colouring with the Pablos, which are a little harder but produce such gorgeous results 💖🤗
