It is true my Fiancee is a syndicated Cartoonist who makes less than minimum wage yearly , but pays more in taxes than I make working a 9-5 in two months. I appreciate your work so much.
Thanks for the suck, Dan. Like the Rialto Report, I'm addicted to your Timesuck podcast. You're able to take something so disturbing as grisly, true crime, and make it entertaining and informative. Kudos.
excellent research as usual well done. this topic has been a project of mine for decades and as crazy as he was, I always found it suspicious why manson was never allowed a defence at his trial. his story never changed, right back from his arrest to his very last breath, that he broke no law always lucid and concise not the ramblings of a fantasist, he would have confessed on his deathbed but no. and to this day all the information most people have on him for almost 50 years, can be traced back to the one source. bugliosi. who's main agenda was to sell his book.
Here's something interesting, Elon Musk's mother May knew Manson & helped the family with funds while in jail during the trial. Just do the search & you'll be surprised at the connections she had. Just adds a few more rabbit holes.
I have read your comment a year later and am curious: Do you think Manson got a raw deal? Do you think he did not influence his followers to commit murder? It's interesting. At one point, he was considered for parole. Several members of the public warned that , if released, Manson would be hunted down and killed. Considering that he fantasized about starting a violent race war, that solution might have been more fitting. If you are old enough to remember the 1970's you will understand the grip his personality had on society and why people didn't want him to be released from prison. Sometimes a bad person is a bad person.
@@tdsims1963 your correct a bad person is bad ! I merely point out Manson wasn't allowed a defence . Like he states in his 1992 parole hearing even a person convicted of murder (by proxy) who wasn't even at the scene of the crime can only be incarcerated for a maximum 18 years so why didn't that apply to him ? their is no other murder case in history where the suspect wasn't allowed a defence . her is a hypothetical scenario, your neighbour commits a murder tomorrow then hands himself in to the police, only while giving a statement he claims I'm not taking all the blame because my neighbour Traci Sims told me to do it ! Next thing you know you are now on trial for your life having to prove that wasn't true, only here's the thing, you are not allowed a defence and have to rely on a jury to decide that for you ? . I'm pretty sure you would be singing a different tune then . I'm not here to judge how evil Manson was or wasn't I'm merely pointing out the way his trial was mishandled . 🤔
'stop, I'm already dead' IS a song by Deadboy and the Elephant Men - a band headline by former Acid Bath vocalist, Dax Riggs. Apparently that line IS a reference to the Manson murders.
What a morbid ride through late 60s Southern California. I feel sorry for people who cannot identify the psychopaths in their own life. Charles just seemed so damn obvious to me.
Unpopular opinion but I think art is separate from the vessels that create it. Roman Polanski's Rosemary's baby is one of the best horror films ever made. Amd surprisingly it is a representation of the persisted inequality of women and how they are treated.
As much as I love you Dan, its obvious you didn't research this episode too dilligently. You have more than made up for it since with the quality, and this was early in your timesucks so all is forgiven Such a topic as the manson case. And the interest it still draws 52 yrs later, maybe you should redo this episode? A couple major misinformation you've put out are: B.Beausoliel did not shoot Gary hinman, nor did manson cut his ear off ( close maybe) and mainly, hinman was not a straight satan
I had a coworker who said "Charlie never killed anybody!"
Neither did hitler or himmler
Are they not responsible for what was done?

FYI Dennis Wilson was *not* hitchhiking. He was driving his car and picked up the hitchhiking Manson girls.

I listen to lick it up still.

He also took business classes in prison, teaching him leadership and how to deal with people.

Love the podcast, but Linda's last name was Kasabian not Kaspian ❤❤❤
Chuck was the GG Allin of the 60s and all I got was this shitty Folgers.
Manson was totally worth 2 pitchers
Manson is all of those things. 😅

Also maybe add CHAOS: Charles Manson, the CIA, and the Secret History of the Sixties by Tom O’Neil in for research 🤷🏻♀️ just a thought lol
