PS4 Pro Announcement - "This is Ghost of Tsushima, the next Playstation exclusive. It's got a huge, gorgeous, open-world with voodoo-fast load times that is only made possible by the extra power found in the PS4 Pro." PS5 Pro Announcement - "This is a Ratchet and Clank game released over three years ago. If you push your face *right* up to the TV and look *very* closely, you can see some minor graphical improvements to the visual fidelity of a background crowd that no one was looking at in the first place. Also, it's $700. And it has no disc drive. Or a stand."
It's really insane to me that they are so game starved they did not have a single actual new feature to showcase here. Couldn't even stretch the presentation over the ten minute mark with showcases of enhancements to existing titles. Tragic.
Fun fact, it's 1,200 dollarydoos down here in Aus. Nearly 1,400 if you get a disk drive, which is just insane at the moment, really can't see it selling well rn in Australia
@@davemangamer7365 No water off my back tbh, I already have a PS5 that's just a GT7 machine, and even if I didn't I'd much rather use the money on one of the Arc Battlemage GPUs if they ever actually come out. Like I said it's really not something I can see being a big success down here with the cost of living crisis when there's a basically just as good model for $400 less. And I'm better off than most my age too, can't afford to live alone so I live with my mum, thus spending less on housing so I have more disposable income, but most people don't have that luxury, and even then I'm still not that well off.
This is the case for most electronics. For some reason, the United States always gets the cheapest MSRP if you do exchange rate calculations. PS4 launched with an MSRP of $400 and £350 in 2013, even though £350 was equivalent to $567 at the time. I think Europe/UK MSRP includes sales tax which accounts for some of the difference.
I understand that it still equates to 700 USD, but this is $959.99 for the non-disk drive in Canada. As someone who paid $500 for a Series X in 2020, I have zero desire to ever buy this. There is no game on PS5 that can justify this for me.
i bought my ps5 at a pawn shop for 530 bucks right after FF 16 came out, so far all ive played on it is GT 7, FF 16, and Rebirth. 2 of those games are coming to PC. 1 of which is due within 2 weeks.... Yeah i probly should have just waited but i really love final fantasy. My ps5 is collecting dust and only gets turned on to play blu rays on my projector, something the PS3 next to it could easily do. The ps3 that i got at the same pawn shop for 20 dollars......
@@azyrael96 fr they had the audacity to show off 5-8 year old games and ask for such a sum. In fact majority of the games they showed off aren't even exclusives as they are on PC now
@@CeezGeez will be sold out easily, if ppl were paying those mad prices for scalping prices a ps5 was going they will have no issue for the ps5 pro if it means better performance and resolution for their games... and considering gta6 is coming soon next year if no delays you can bet ps5 pro owners are gonna want to play it at 60fps
799€ is 882usd. And no disc drive! How does this thing not have a disc drive at this point?! If making a chip with at least some notable performance upgrade over the base console was this expensive, they should really just not have bothered.
@@iwouldntlikemeeither Governments don't force prices. This is what a monopoly looks like. Microsoft is basically moving out of the market and so Sony don't have to try anymore. PS3 made them humble for a bit.
What I don't understand is... the PS4 launched at $399 but then Sony reduced the price to $299 with the PS4 'Slim' and the PS4 Pro took over the $399 price point. For the Price of 1x PS5 Pro + Disk Drive + Stand today, that would've bought both you and your best friend a PS4 Pro each back in 2017
Worth noting that at the HotChips tech conference in August 2020, Xbox's engineers actually explained that circa 2017 the cost reduction you normally would get by shrinking the chips went away and it became more costly to shrink them, as yields were no longer reliable at those scales. This is why Xbox always said from day 1 there'd be no Pro Xbox model (bc they knew chip prices for base consoles aren't coming down this entire cycle, so a higher end one would make a Pro Xbox prohibitively pricey). It's also why Series S exists...since X's price won't come down, you can't target casuals or mass market consumers with a $199 or $299 version of it. Instead, they needed a whole different model, and once ya commit to making a lower end model there is no reason not to sell it day 1. Base PS5 is still sold at a loss today on the hw transaction itself.
Sony is getting cocky and they used to take a loss or break even on the sale of a console. With how bad Microsoft has fallen they’re the only game in town now so they feel like they can do whatever and who’s gonna do anything about it? So now they’re trying to make profit on everything they sell. Consoles, games, even the god damn stand.
I'm a physical game collector and no disc drive really killed the PS5 Pro for me. The addon is bad enough, but it also requires server access to work! As soon as Sony mothballs the servers you won't be able to play physical even with a disc drive! No disc drive, no buy. Simple as that.
The PS5 Pro costs more than a maxed out Steam Deck OLED??? That's absolutely insane. My steam deck is easily a 10/10 purchase and there's no way the ps5 pro would even come close to that value. That's insanity
No comparison, one is a handheld the other a console. What the PS5 pro needs to be compared too is, well, the PS5. At the end of the day they are charging you an extra 200-300 USD for more defined foliage, better framerates (in a FEW games), and taking away the disc drive. Ridiculous.
At 700 USD (who knows how expensive it will be after taxes, shipping and currency exchange) This fall way, _way_ out of my means. I’m sticking to my old PS4 and PS5. That’s more than enough for me.
I sold my PS4 in 2019 with the anticipation of getting a PS5, had my PC though. 6 years later every game I had on my PS account is available on PC and cost less than buying back into the Sony machine. I'm out.
I can't just plug in a pc and play it. Also there's maintenance when you buy a pc. Also it will be graphically worse. If your not running the best settings you might as well stay on console
@@GirthCheckon the graphics thing too, even if the graphics won't be quite as good they'd probably still be pretty damn close. Plus you'd always have the option of upgrading your machine later to be more powerful without having to worry about losing your old games and having to rebuy them.
$959 here in Canada. Over $1000 with taxes. Absolute madness. Hard agree with you both. Literal lifelong PlayStation fan since the og 1 days and I’ll probably have to switch on to Pc this year. The price increases on everything in the ecosystem is frustrating to say the least.
I think another factor aside from price that prevents some people from getting into PC gaming is just the simplicity of a console (for the most part nowadays). With a console you just take it outta the box, hook it up to your tv, put in a game (do updates) and you're good. With a PC, it's a bit more set up work on top of paying over $1000 for a decent PC. And usually if somethings wrong with a game on PC, I rarely try to figure out what's wrong cause since I personally grew up with consoles mostly, I'm just use to games just working. My gaming PC is now just my FFXIV and fighting game machine, my launch PS5 I use for everything else via discs. Sony going for $700 is unsurprising with how arrogant they've been with no competition and being successful. But not including the disc drive even as an option for purchase is legit wild. ALSO the fact they didn't even announce a showcase for potential future games to show PS5 Pro off, like that was worse. Most games they showed are PS4 games.
@darilaho A good build can run up high. The thing is, is that it's up to you and what you're building it for. You get into the techno crap but if you're going for a simple rig there are guides for it
Well this sucks. Your video just broke the news that the ps5 pro was even announced…I felt burned by Sony when I early adopted the ps4, and sludged through that first couple years of little to no games only for them to release a pro model soon after that is a better experience… I told myself this go around I’d just wait for the ps5 pro, especially for gta 6…. But they somehow managed to make me feel burned again with that price and that lack of disc drive…. Will this be dark plate compatible? This kinda sucks man.
All the games which were said to benefit from the game boost tech run at >100fps with upscaling on a ~$1200 PC. I think they genuinely don't expect this to sell much and are just testing what price they can get away with for next gen.
Damn, this one hit me hard. Im very invested in Playstation. More than 500 games in my library, couldve bought a pc by now with all that money into digital game I might not even be able to play in 10 years. Looking at you ps3 for blu-ray movies. Point is this, this was a good episode.
I was holding off on getting a PS5 to see what the pro was like. With that ridiculous price I think it's time to start a PC build. Wtf is Sony thinking?!
Hit the nail on the head in all aspects. Do I want one, yes. Will I get one, probably, but I'll wait till it's come down in price or some bundles. I'm in the privileged position that I've hedged my bets on pc and console, so if I see a great deal that's what I get it on. The upside of handheld gaming atm is that it's showing people that the best graphics aren't everything.
Do you recall the circumstances surrounding the PS5's UK launch? The disc version was priced at £450, but due to scalpers purchasing the entire stock and reselling it on eBay for approximately £800, it was unavailable in stores. A similar scenario is anticipated, with PS5 Pro eBay prices reaching £1200 instead of the official retail price of £700. Despite the high cost, individuals will likely purchase the console as Christmas gifts for their loved ones. Sony's decision to release the PS5 Pro in November appears to be a wise move in light of these circumstances. It would be nice if Sony sort out this issue and make some hard checks on scalpers at official partner shops when selling PS5 Pro's so real gamers can enjoy it first and for real retail price.
I love PS and I game on steam too. But if you are paying 700+ for a console you are honestly halfway to a gaming rig tbh you may aswel save up a bit more and go for a PC at that point.
I think PS4 Pro sales ended up being about 10% total of PS4 units sold, so these high end products are not designed to be mass market sellers. They are for hardcore gamers who have the disposable income. I'd expect PS5 Pro share of sales to be even below what the PS4 Pro did, considering it's much more expensive. The standard PS5 is perfectly fine for most gamers.
I'm from mexico, and I was waiting for any ps5 pro to get it. But after seeing the price and thinking that the tech here comes being at least 30-40% more expensive because the taxes, import and third distributors. Man is wild because the ps5 pro will cost at least 1000$ without any accessory
After watching Kinda Advertising charade takes in the morning, is refreshing to see these two actually getting It. Shame so much of the info entertainment space has turn into PR for big corporations
While the price is high and is lacking in features, I personally see the PS5 Pro more as a "I'll just wait to get this later once a brand new 1st party game I really want comes out" type of device. And that's honestly an okay outlook for me personally. But I don't think this would be the most optimal choice for anyone to have right now considering there aren't any major 1st Party games on the horizon to be released, especially if someone is still looking to buy their first PS5. Eventually, I do hope prices can be lowered once parts for each console becomes cheaper, and in regards into getting into the PC ecosystem as a way to counteract PSN stores very high prices, I've always considered myself a physical games first type of gamer and I don't plan on ever changing that perspective at all to be honest. For me, the comfort of being able to physically look at and own my most favorite and cherished games of all time, the convenience of being able to play my games comfortably in my room, and being able to game in a living room with a really big TV whether I'm by myself or I'm playing couch co-op (or even single player games) with my friends and family will always be the type of core memories I will always want to replicate and hold dear throughout the rest of my life. And those are just experiences you just can't really get with PC gaming at the moment.
There will be some strong initial sales and once that dries up they will slash the fuck out of the price. To me this is Sony just banking on the brainless casuals who they know will pay up no matter what.
get the slim with the disc drive. my sister bought hers last week, she was a bit pissed with the announcement. but when she read about the ps5Pro, she was laughing her ass off.. Sony cant help themselves.
Last gens mid-gen pro models made sense: 4k tv prices were plummeting, everyone was buying one and people wanted a console that could leverage that in some way. Even with that in their favor the ps4 pro only made up 15% of sales. With no huge revolution in consumer tech for them to piggyback on this time around, it's just baffling to me. The enthusiasts who are chomping at the bit to shell out another $700 for marginal performance gains are already committed to PC.
@@MegaMario9001 I love my Steam Deck but it's not a substitute for a machine that can run current AAA games. Some will run, some will not, those that do will be at low settings and 30fps most likely. For me it's enough, because honestly, current AAA games are mostly freaking trash to begin with, but for others it won't be. Prebuilt's don't cost an arm and a leg, another alternative is you can always buy your components and go to a PC repair shop and probably get them to built it for you for cheap. Either way, investing into PC makes infinitely more sense than being locked into these MS or Sony ecosystems that will continue to raise their prices and exploit consumers as cost inflation continues to deteriorate their margins.
That's very short sighted. Anyone wanting to upgrade from PS5 to PS5 Pro needs to buy the disc drive just to keep playing their old games. It only being 80 dollars is very telling as well. Just over the price of a game to play the rest of your games. 😡 Basically if you spent more money for the PS5 disc version you have to spend EVEN MORE money to keep playing those discs. I am FURIOUS.
I do want to point out that even the absurd $600 Xbox Series X comes with the installed disc drive, 2TB storage, upscalling and boosting old games, AND is backwards compatible with virtually every single Xbox game ever. Sony is out of their minds thinking it is okay to charge $700 for a slight upgrade that comes with less physical features than the base PS5 model. They are literally ripping off parts of the console and selling them back to people like it is modern day DLC. They really think they are Apple where they can just get away with a monopoly and charge whatever they want. I hope this bites them in the ass really hard.
If the Switch 2 announcement is even remotely impressive and if it has a reasonable price Nintendo will absolutely dominate the console market for the next 5 years.
Speaking of shady PS store business practices: the day Space Marine 2 launched in the UK the only version you could buy on the digital store for the first 6 hours was the ultimate, £95 version. The only way you could purchase the cheaper, base versions was if you had previously wishlisted them.
What I have heard for a LONG time is console manufacturers sell their consoles at a loss, but that is because they can make up for that with game sales. So here is my theory with PS5 they probably had a huge problem with scalpers buying up so many of the console way back during the pandemic. They had limited manufacturing or limited resources and jerks buying up the consoles and selling them at a huge markup. Sony couldn't just turn around and just up the price cause scalpers already bought so many for the original price. But at the same time they also could see how many actual gamers bought the console because people logging into their playstation accounts and playing games shows up for Sony. They see the writing on the wall that they are losing money selling a console either at cost or at a loss, people are not buying games because they can't buy a console unless they pay even more which they don't want to do (good for them for not buying from scalpers). So Sony had to make a choice and started selling some of their games on steam for like the first time to start making some money. They also quietly redesigned the PS5 by removing more of the heat sink and just sticking more plastic fins in the plastic fan to offset that loss from part of the metal heat sink. This means less materials having to be manufactured, as well as weight going down which saves them on the cost of shipping all these consoles. Though in the long run these consoles will probably die faster from the extra heat, because all heat is bad for electronics. Which means eventually when the PS6 comes around the corner said PS5's might start having something similar to red ring of death or yellow light of death other consoles have had in the past forcing customers to move to the newest console which is what Sony wants anyways. Then they make another PS5 slim and sell the disc drive as a detachable thing to promote digital only so they can get away with not having to make and ship discs and push for digital only. And now we see it with the PS5 Pro they are pushing digital only, and you have to pay extra for disc drives, as well as a stand to try and make money off all the money they lost with the PS5. Even worse the Joystick drift clearly not being fixed because they don't want to probably as cost saving measures. Where Ifixit did a tear down way back when showing it will inevitably happen with EVERY PS5 controller eventually. Though now ifixit has a fix if you want to go through the work to fix it yourself so it doesn't happen again. But then Sony also releases a new "pro" controller that is more expensive and offloading the work onto the consumer by letting you remove the joysticks and pay Sony for new ones when they have problems while they are always sold out or hard to get. So pay more money for a controller that suffers the same problem, and pay them more money for replacement parts, and you fix it so they don't have to. With the PS5 Slim and now PS5 Pro I am thinking Playstation is going to try and quietly stop making regular PS5 if they haven't already so that people are forced to buy the newer more cost saving (for Sony, and in the case of this console maybe profitable) console, and if anyone complains they can be like "just buy the newer one, it's faster and prettier!". If it wouldn't have been for the scalpers I would probably have gotten a PS5 pretty early on to play a few PS4 games I missed out on. Since I stopped at PS3 ever since Sony decided to copy Microsoft and make everyone pay to play online. Nintendo did the same which is why I don't own any of their newer consoles either. With PS5 being backwards compatible and seemed like a better console I actually bought a few PS4 games expecting to be able to play them pretty soon after PS5 came out. But they still are sitting on my shelf and doesn't look like I will ever get to play them because I have no real interest in buying a console from any of the crapy companies these days. They have just gotten worse over time as someone who has grown up playing lots of games on many different consoles. PC is still better than them, though it does have it's own problems. And for those of you who want a gaming PC just remember you don't need the most expensive parts, and I know a number of people who have been saving for years or building their own by slowly buying the parts they need when they go on sale. You don't have to buy the newest parts, sometimes previous versions or "last years model" parts are cheaper but maybe like 80-90% as good as the newest ones on the market now. There are a number of places online where you can look for help on picking out PC parts and even sites that have PC parts lists you can make then just start wishlisting said parts on different sites and using price tracking and when they go on sale buy them. It might take you a few years (and you may need that time to save up enough to buy all the stuff) but like they said in the video you will SAVE more money in the long run. You can also use the computer for other stuff not just gaming, lots of other entertainment stuff. My gaming computer before my current one was way back during "windows Vista"! and lasted me a good 12? years before I needed to buy a new one. Technically I could have looked at swapping out parts but that was going to be to much work. Plus I had already had to replace a graphics card earlier that died, but not that bad. My current gaming PC is already like 8 years old probably? and still works for most games, but probably struggles with the newest ones coming out these days. So I might have to look into a new gaming PC again eventually which stinks. But for now, this has allowed me to surf the web (which has LOTS of entertainment available in different forms) which has been my main form of entertainment for years. As well as doing some work stuff, saving music, videos, pictures, researching stuff etc. So even if it looks like it's going to take a few years just to save up for a gaming PC, it will be worth it in the long run.
I've been trying to explain to ppl for ages now that PS5 is sold at a loss on the point of sale transaction. Glad to see an outlet actually make note of this and start connecting the dots a bit there! It's 100% the reason for Pro's price. Totoki said in both December and again in August that this FY they aim to focus on hw profit specifically. Their business model has completely fallen apart this cycle. It's also why Xbox changed tactics in 2022 as they began noticing that old model no longer functioned.
"Pro" Consoles all together are the weirdest products that have released in the last two generations because they don't really have an audience. I play both on console and PC and I'm moderately tech savvy. Normally PC is better for gaming, but PC gaming always requires a little more work. When you boot up a new game and you have to play around with settings and drivers and your controller may not work so you have to fiddle around with more settings etc. etc. That isn't a problem if you have some tech knowledge, but there will always be part of me just thinking "man i wish this would just work immediately". Additionally there are some games where I would much rather be sitting on my couch and looking at my TV rather than sitting at my desk in front of my computer. That's supposed to be the appeal of consoles. They have a cheaper entry barrier and they just work. Yes console games are more expensive, but most consumers (general, not enthusiasts like the people watching this video) aren't going to buy and play the number of games that would be needed to make up the cost difference between a console and PC. These consumers are also the same people that aren't going to care about the best performance and graphics. So the market for Pro consoles is the extremely thin slice of enthusiasts who want the plug and play product because they aren't tech savvy but also are also going to spend way more money on an entrenched hobby than your average consumer? Man I was hoping that they would come out with a powered down slim version for a cheaper price. Then maybe I could actually afford and justify buying a PS5. Not this over inflated console made for no one.
Your talking about a PS5 console not the PS6 that is really worth $700 so what if it costs $700 it’s Sonys product if your smart enough you won’t buy it and wait until the PS6 is out not everyone needs a PS5 Pro
I gained the ability to be relatively platform agnostic, recently. I had a Switch first, then got an Xbox, inherited a PC, and finally got a PS5 Slim about a month ago- and just *observing* the platform, PS5 has been baseline the most expensive to get into. Right now, I'm only paying for online services for Switch, though with as many friends as I have on PS vs other consoles, I may have to get online for that. I mostly have the consoles for games I can't play on my PC.
06:09 also great thing here, there aren't like any standard third party controllers (expect a few expensive pro-types) in the same way you see with every other system (8bitdo, PDP, etc) so there isn't even competition... and yeah when the price starts getting that high, it starts making more sense to look at PC stuff. Even if PC can sometimes be a technical hassle, the investment is worth so much more. The games are cheaper, there is store front competition, more options in game (aren't stuck with some eye sore the devs insisted upon lol). Also, idk if this is gonna be a significant enough upgrade, nor do we know if it will even be supported enough to real make a difference or will it just be "this pixel looks great when you shove your face in it!"
My first gaming PC cost me about 900ish USD about 6 years ago. It ran games just fine until I saved up enough to get a much beefier rig. PC game pass from Xbox is $10 USD a month and has a decently varried catalog. As mentioned in the video, Epic game store gives out free games each month. All I'm saying is that for a few hundred more dollars you can get a decent PC to last a good while. I personally don't know who the PS5 Pro is for lol.
what's crazy is not having anything to point to thats pushing the base ps5 to its limit. There's no games to showcase the pro its so annoying to see games developed to work on a ps4 as promo material.
I don’t care for peak performance or mid gen consoles, but i was interested in this console because i was waiting for more games. But $700 hurts and the extra cost for a disc drive bums me out. I love collecting physical game discs and used dvds, so the disc drive is really important to me.
I got the base discless PS5 when it launched because it was $400 instead of $500 for the base PS5. The $100 savings made sense to me at the time since I didn't have the money to invest in PC gaming, and Playstation was putting out exclusives I wanted to play. To have the PS5 Pro cost almost double what the base discless PS5 cost at launch is absurd, in addition to the nickel and dime tactics on display. Not to mention how Sony's IP well has started to dry up. We've entered an era where hardware is so advanced that "Pro" models really don't afford much of a difference, and certainly not enough to warrant the inflated price tag. Going forward, I may strongly consider just transitioning to PC and my base PS5 may be the last console I ever buy.
the beautiful part about PC gaming when buying your games other than the regular sales.... your games are not generational so if you bought a Steam game back in 2012 or 2015 and so forth you will always have it unless Steam removes it off their platform indefinitely but that being said your not subjected to playing only as far as backwards compatibility allows you too with consoles.
The thing that gets me is I stopped paying for PS+ unfortunately yea I miss part of my library in free games but also many games I PAID FOR lost functionality and that sealed me into PC for life it just makes sense.
The thing that gets me about this system is... If you have a PS4 or PS5. Why would you need a PS5 Pro? Alot of people have yet to upgrade from the PS4. As they still release games for the PS4. I have a PS5 because I didn't have a PS4. And I wanted to play Final Fantasy. But now Final Fantasy is going to PC again. So there's not real point in it. Unless Sony starts pumping out games again. There's no reason to have a PS5 Pro unless you don't have a PS4 or PS5. But even then like you said you can just get a base model or slim PS5.
It's $1,199.95 Aussie dollars And around $1,400 with a Disc Drive That's not worth having a slightly better quality mode at 60fps. It's well within "I could just upgrade my PC and out perform it" territory.
I mean, it is exorbitantly expensive and Sony is definitely abusing its market share right now, but…you don’t have to buy it? The regular ps5 is right there and plenty capable. I don’t think Sony even anticipates that many people will buy one in the first place, hence the price tag.
The base price in the eu and uk includes the sales tax but thats still an insane price, especially when you add in the 30/40 quid vertical stand made of plastic that you got with the base system for free as well as the disk drive which is an additional 80. Its absolutely ridiculous, i pray that the lack of sales will help make sony sort themselves out. Also weren't we promised 4k 120fps on the original box for the ps5???
My base PS5 disc that I bought in January 2023 is without a doubt my biggest financial regret of recent memory. As a PS fan of the past ~26 years, I hate to say it, but I should have bought an Xbox.
I bailed on Sony after The PS2 generation (and I loved my PS2 slim), they refused to help me during the PS2 lunch year system breaking issues. M$ took care of me during RROD. MS has issues but I have played more games over the past 4 years than I ever would have otherwise thanks to Gamepass.
currently the mix of installed games on my PS5 is a few pure PS5 games, a bunch of PS5 upgrades of PS4 games, and a whole bunch of PS4 games. I don't see how a PRO can help me out here.
When i was weighing my options between pc and ps5, i realized a ps5 with 10-15 games would cost the same as a decent pc. Im willing to not buy 10 games and have a system that can do much more than play games. Plus I've remdeemed a 100+ games for free from epic so it's not like im gonna run out of games to play. Plus $60 during a steam sale will get me so many games. Im glad i picked pc even if it was pricier to begin with
I bought the disc version of the original PS5 back in 2020 and within four physical game purchases i'd already earned the money back i would have saved from buying the disc-less version. Plus, i physically own them now, they can't just remove them on a whim.
I have the base PS5 and considered upgrading to the pro, then I saw the price and no disc drive and immediately noped out. Nearly $1400 AUD for the console and disc drive is insane. What got me, is they didn't mention the lack of disc drive at all in their marketing and it seems really shady, it was my first question after seeing the announcement. Makes me concerned for what PS6 will be.
The PS5 is almost four years old. Four years later the chip technology is much better. They should be able to give us 2/3 more power for the same $500 price. I see no reason to buy the PS5 Pro. Neither will anyone else.
Yeah, I play a lot of FPS games so playing on PC is not fun with the cheaters and hackers and wall hackers. I plan on console and turn cross play off. I know you get the online you don’t pay for through a subscription but yeah like sitting back on the couch and relax and playing I don’t wanna spend 2 1/2 times more money than that, just for a PC
You can build a great PC for less than the cost of the PS5 Pro. Grab a Ryzen 5 series, 1080ti, and you'll have enough cash leftover to get a few games on GOG. Stop believing the lie that every PC has to cost $2,000
I am so glad I made a jump to PC. I still have my series X and S, which I feel it's unnecessary. I bought a gaming laptop early this year to play Helldivers 2. I don't think I'm going back to console. I'm planning to build a gaming rig next summer.
Have noticed the PSN is always way too high priced myself, which is why I tend to play games on my Steam Deck more often than on PS5 even if they look worse. Can use them after the console life ends and it isnt twice the price per game
If a store wants to charge you more for a product just dont shop there. People will compare PlayStation’s digital store prices to Steams and complain that its expensive. But for the same physical copies at GameStop or on Amazon they are cheaper on their digital store. And for the luxury of not having to leave your home people will pay.

This is the case for most electronics. For some reason, the United States always gets the cheapest MSRP if you do exchange rate calculations.

For the Price of 1x PS5 Pro + Disk Drive + Stand today, that would've bought both you and your best friend a PS4 Pro each back in 2017
Inflation. 2017 money isn't the same as 2024
@darilaho okay, but it's not THAT inflated. Sure the economy sucks right now, but $700+ is still ridiculous.
@@TavishHill I really doubt PS5 is sold at a loss, but otherwise this is very on-point and more people should understand this by now.

So now they’re trying to make profit on everything they sell. Consoles, games, even the god damn stand.
I'm a physical game collector and no disc drive really killed the PS5 Pro for me. The addon is bad enough, but it also requires server access to work! As soon as Sony mothballs the servers you won't be able to play physical even with a disc drive!

this is what happens when you have only 1 console manufacturer, PC Mustard Race and whatever

$700 for no disk drive... we are so cooked. This is how $70 games got normalized

I'm very grateful to have this channel, thanks for all you do guys
That's very short sighted. Anyone wanting to upgrade from PS5 to PS5 Pro needs to buy the disc drive just to keep playing their old games. It only being 80 dollars is very telling as well. Just over the price of a game to play the rest of your games. 😡
Basically if you spent more money for the PS5 disc version you have to spend EVEN MORE money to keep playing those discs.
I hope this bites them in the ass really hard.
no-one ever talks about the tv/monitor needed to run a ps5 at its highest performance and the extra cost of that.
If the Switch 2 announcement is even remotely impressive and if it has a reasonable price Nintendo will absolutely dominate the console market for the next 5 years.
You might as well just buy an Inspiron laptop for $700. You might actually end up saving money in the long run.
Thanks Sony for finally pushing me to buy a gaming PC, I prefer you pay for Concord thanks....
Speaking of shady PS store business practices: the day Space Marine 2 launched in the UK the only version you could buy on the digital store for the first 6 hours was the ultimate, £95 version. The only way you could purchase the cheaper, base versions was if you had previously wishlisted them.
My Esports students became enraged by the stand not being available as standard.
Bruh ur comment is way too long ain’t nobody got time for that
This is embarrassing
I've been trying to explain to ppl for ages now that PS5 is sold at a loss on the point of sale transaction. Glad to see an outlet actually make note of this and start connecting the dots a bit there! It's 100% the reason for Pro's price. Totoki said in both December and again in August that this FY they aim to focus on hw profit specifically. Their business model has completely fallen apart this cycle. It's also why Xbox changed tactics in 2022 as they began noticing that old model no longer functioned.
I can't afford PC and I can't afford space for physical. Guess I'll just go outside...
Sony in the market leader position is bad for everyone, Europe again gets the short end of the stick like the PS3 days. Ill pass.
Me, non-native English speaker: "What's 'new tropics' and what does it have to do with my brain?" 😅
Man you guys deserve more attention
NO DISK DRIVE???
The thing that gets me about this system is... If you have a PS4 or PS5. Why would you need a PS5 Pro? Alot of people have yet to upgrade from the PS4. As they still release games for the PS4. I have a PS5 because I didn't have a PS4. And I wanted to play Final Fantasy. But now Final Fantasy is going to PC again. So there's not real point in it. Unless Sony starts pumping out games again. There's no reason to have a PS5 Pro unless you don't have a PS4 or PS5. But even then like you said you can just get a base model or slim PS5.
It's $1,199.95 Aussie dollars
And around $1,400 with a Disc Drive
That's not worth having a slightly better quality mode at 60fps.
It's well within "I could just upgrade my PC and out perform it" territory.
Fun fact the vertical stand is not included
The Devs wont give a shit about going through extra hoops to bother with that extra performance for new games months after.
I do have a dream of buying a crazy PC rig that can run everything in 4k 120fps... one day
My favorite thing about being a PC gamer is spending hours upon hours troubleshooting Windows.
ALSO I DONT SEE ANYONE TALKING ABOUT THIS BUT THE PS5 PRO ALSO DOESNT COME WITH PLAYSTATION LINK BUILT IN STILL GOTTA USE A DONGLE
sony L
I have to say, I'm surprised it took this long for Sony to fall back into the hubris of the PS3 era. At least that's what it feels like to me.
My base PS5 disc that I bought in January 2023 is without a doubt my biggest financial regret of recent memory. As a PS fan of the past ~26 years, I hate to say it, but I should have bought an Xbox.
Noo a pc...
To play what exactly?
I bailed on Sony after The PS2 generation (and I loved my PS2 slim), they refused to help me during the PS2 lunch year system breaking issues. M$ took care of me during RROD. MS has issues but I have played more games over the past 4 years than I ever would have otherwise thanks to Gamepass.
😂 you gonna buy a Xbox when all their games are coming to ps5 what are a moron
As a PS fan gimme your Disk version PS5. I have the launch digital version, and I regretted not getting the Disk version.
The No Disk Drive is a deal breaker for me, you basically only rent games from now on
currently the mix of installed games on my PS5 is a few pure PS5 games, a bunch of PS5 upgrades of PS4 games, and a whole bunch of PS4 games.
Im glad i picked pc even if it was pricier to begin with
What if the PS5 Pro is the only way to play GTA VI at 60 frames per second? At least for 12 to 18 months until it eventually comes out on PC
@@we-can-still-be-friends like I said, I play a lot of FPS games and I don’t like the PC cheating wall hacking group of people I cross play off
I am so glad I made a jump to PC. I still have my series X and S, which I feel it's unnecessary. I bought a gaming laptop early this year to play Helldivers 2. I don't think I'm going back to console. I'm planning to build a gaming rig next summer.
If there's one benefit about the Xbox Series X is that becomes the perfect Yukza console.
It's still wild you can't gift a game to someone.
@@CheefChaos That is crazy. So you literally have to buy someone a physical copy or just a gift card.
Pretty sure Sony said they were selling the regular ps5 at profit like a year after it launched
You guys should be carpenters. You hit every nail on the head with this breakdown
Never knew I needed Garth from Wayne’s world to tell me about a ps5 pro.
I feel like I'm watching the seed of console death being planted
