Derek's laugh is the best I met him last year in La Comic Con I'm going this year's comic Con, so I will see this legend again :D
37 years after discovering the Powerslave album cover on the wall in Musicland I still think Derek Riggs artwork is the best. I have a music room(man cave) in the basement I'm getting ready to dedicate the walls to this artist and his work with Iron Maiden!!
Derek Riggs, an absolute genius artist
Maidens music especially the early stuff is iconic....but the artwork is right up there too and all the work and imagination of this one man.If he passed you in the street and he was wearing a 'killers" t-shirt you wouldn't have a clue.Genius.
A really sensible person who got an incredible success being too young, even younger that the band´s members. A talented genius wich was poorly covered by music press, cause of the manner the Iron Maiden Holding worked those years.

I've loved Derek's art for years, but I had no idea what he looked or sounded like. He reminds me of Danny from Withnail & I. Never a bad thing! :D

Honestly, I dunno if I would be a metalhead if not for Derek. When I was 12 and started listening to music (other than radio) there were 3 subs in my town Punks, Metalheads, and Depeche Mode fans. I had friends in all of them so I choose genre because of covers. The Number of the Best and Somewhere in Time to be exact. I dunno If Derek realizes that but this way he shaped so so many young people into the people they are today.

Derek Riggs did not invent Eddie......He Re-Did and created the version that we are use to seeing now.
Are you talking about that white mask that used to be behind the drummer?
CORRECT......The band referred to the mask as the "Head"...But as time went on it sounded like "Ed".....So when Mr Riggs Designed The first Album Cover,..They referred to his creation as EDDIE...(Ed./ Head)...Anything Prior To 1980,As Far As IRON MAIDEN Is Concerned Mr Riggs Had Nothing To Do With.....I Butted Heads With Him Once On This Matter......I Still Can,t Believe What a FOOLISH Argument That Was..Check This Link Out, It Will Explain Everything.....en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eddie_the_Head
He created the image everyone knows he didn't create the name. Eddie was originally known as Electric Matthew.
