I used polymer clay (Just plain white Sculpey) to make impressions of leaves. Took the leaf out then baked the clay. Soon I will make silicone molds of leaves. I figured out (thanks to a RUclips video) the best way is to put the part I don't want to mold down in clay and roll it just like I did to make the clay impressions. But instead of taking the leaf out of the clay leave it in... (ha ha.. leave it... ) then pour the silicone on top to make my mold of the leaf. I am going to use them in an upcoming project to make leaves look more real so I just need a thin mold with a great impression. - Heidi

I'm thinking back to the time you cast resin shavings in resin... What if you tried to make a ghost or something? Make a shape out of clear resin, paint over part of it with acrylic paint (making sure to leave some gaps), and then use the same clear resin to suspend it in a display block.
Basically, try to make it so you can only see the layer of paint suspended in resin.

I think I've mentioned this before, but you can degas your resin in the vac chamber before pouring it to reduce the number of bubbles, which probably would have helped with your walnut leaf.
Also, you could had added fibrous reinforcement to your plaster casts by sticking some fabric in there or something to make them much stronger if you want something durable.

I love having Mrs. Brown in the videos, especially as an active participant! I'm still drumming up support for another upcycle challenge between the two of you. Granted, that just involves me thinking 'Oh, I really enjoyed that video... I wish they'd do another like that.' but still.
