@@peterbrownwastaken what about taking some of that broken glass and hitting it with some spray paints like silver to make it look like mini pieces of shattered mirror? You could also do other colors or multiple layers but I think bold lime black, white and metallic colors would look cool. If you bunch the pieces together and keep them all flat you might be able to spray a single side but that also might be a lot of work. You could also tumble some in sand to to give them a frosted effect if they don't just break into glass dust. Hope to see what you do next!

What would be really interesting is taking the broken glass and casting it in flat sheets. These can then be set in a frame, either to make stained glass by adding colours, or creating a lampshade. It'd also need a really strong resin, you've gotta consider that since glass is smooth the resin has less surface area to bite into so if the final piece isn't a good bit thicker than the glass you just end up with a webbing of resin which isn't very rigid or sturdy. It could still work as long as there is enough voids between the glass so maybe it's stacked in layers? I doubt it'll be very see through in the end but it'll probably give a cool crystal look that would make some interesting light patterns.

When it comes to transparent thread, glass etc, the most relevant thing is the refractive index - get those the same and the boundary between them becomes invisible. There might be some cool stuff you can do with that, if you can find a resin with the same refractive index as glass, thread, or whatever.
There's a website at refractiveindex dot info, which is a great reference for this for all sorts of materials

Unlike string or acrylic, wouldn't the resin mount have the same refractive index as the pour and, provided the surface was smooth, it should be hard to see, correct? There are so many different types of epoxies & resins that there is bound to be one that would work.
I bet that it would probably be the nastiest smelling polyester resin though. 🤔 you'd probably want to inset air with a tool like a hair dryer or air compressor rather than blow with your mouth. Or you'd probably end up sucking in noxious fumes.

One way of dealing with moisture in objects when casting resin is to coat the object in a very thin layer of over-catalysed clear polyester/embedding resin. Excess catalyst cures the resin fast so moisture can't affect further coats, and the thin layer has minimal optical effect.
Caveat: it's a technique I read about when I first started learning about resin casting years ago, and have never tried it myself.

Did a project for a Hop company a few years ago. We put a hop blossom in resin, cylinder shaped mold, then put that casting in a concrete countertop, ground and polished. Put motion detector switches with an LED back light under the countertop. Worked well. To suspend the hop cone (blossom), we poured the small mold about 1/3-1/2 full, let it set just enough to gel a bit, placed the cone, then added the remaining resin. No casting lines were apparent and as it was only visible from the top looking down through the cylinder. Very slow curing resin to minimize heat. We used polyester resin for fiberglass. We got lucky. First time success is rare with organics and resin. Had a couple castings left over so I polished and buffed to a nice clear finish, no delineation visible. As I said, we got lucky.

Hardness = A material’s ability to withstand friction, essentially abrasion resistance. (hitting a diamond with a hammer vs scratching it)
Toughness = How well the material can resist fracturing or deformation when force is applied. (the hammer used to hit the diamond with)

I've seen in other resin videos where the crafter will take the same resin they're going to use in the final project and pour it into a straw to make sort of dowels that they then use as risers to "float" solid objects in their final pour. Since it's made of identical resin with identical optical properties, they do a great job of disappearing.
