So first of all thank you for the information. Very well done. I've saved it so I can review it.
Second, I would love to see you do the same survey in Canada keeping in mind our local fishing guidelines and rules. For example, we can't openly fish bass until the third Saturday in June. That means we could miss that full moon in June. We cannot fish during the spawn which is mid June typically. (Although the climate change seems to be changing that. I'd love to discuss this more in-depth with you if you have a chance.
    Thanks again!

Awesome video....you missed out on one area though. The deep PNW, I’m talking western WA. Water never freezes, but it almost never gets above 75F....it fishes like a different universe. I’ve fished south of the mason, the boundary waters, the ol miss, and a lot in the Midwest....it doesn’t fish the same. These bass are different (largemouth). Smallies I have no issue with, but getting a top water blowup on lake WA in July, for example, forget it.

  • @Nehringer1

Matt, Great job as always! Things have really changed since you were last on Pickwick a few weeks ago. The grass has blown up! I've just about abandoned the ledges because I've not found anything out there in a while. I've been catching good fish shallow in the early morning along rock walls and steep banks, and while graphing some ledges later in the day, I stumbled across some thick grass on humps. I found it because I heard and saw fish tearing up the surface a few yards from where I was graphing. When I idled over to the disturbance, I found myself mired in hydrilla thick enough to stop the boat. Bait was everywhere! The water comes up on either side of these humps from 30' and the grass starts around 10-12'. There are a couple of deep lanes around the high spots. I wasn't marking any fish in the deep areas, so I assumed they were all up under the mats. The grass is topped out in a few places, and its still growing. I've fished the edges with swim jigs, ripped swim jigs through the stuff, fished a frog over the top, punched it with a heavy weighted creature, ran a weightless fluke all over the place. Only had a few blow ups and just a couple hook-ups. I'm losing the paddle tails off my trailers, so I figure the gar are snatching them off. When the fish are blowing up on the wads of bait, it looks like schools of bass as the frenzy is over a space of a few yards and constant for several seconds, then it will quiet down and blow up somewhere else. Is it too early to expect to find bigger bass leaving the deep water ledges in favor of the matted grass? Water temps are still in the 90's. Will fishing pressure drive them off the ledges into thicker cover? I don't see too many other boats messing with the grassy areas. Am I onto something, or wasting my time?

Here’s a challenge. Come to Lake Grapevine in Grapevine TX. There is no cover, no vegetation, and hardly any docks. There are mostly rocky shoreline which provide cover for fish, however the rock have deep crevices where it is almost impossible to throw a lure. There is no grass in or around this lake whatsoever. You would be lucky to catch one fish in a week.

best video ever.. lol.. just getting back into fishing this year and actually doing the research why they stopped biting after may.. started using big worm and noticed fish were spawning.. caught a ton of 4 and 5 pounders including my pb 7 lbs. now im focusing on top water . but the pressure has fallen the last few days and i had to work.. now the pressure is too low. trying to figure out the lake im going to.. scouted the shallows today and not a fish in sight.. ( couple of small ones) and not geared up to punch the mats of grass yet and now sure if any big fish are in there.. hoping to see more action when pressure rises.. or ill focus on deep water fishing.. tough in a kayak and no fish finder.. might try the points again with suggested gear.. and about to look for your video on pressure .. i think you made 1... thanks

That is so amazing that a sub caught a teener using your advice! I know it's definitely helped me catch more fish

Awesome video Matt, thanks for sharing all the knowledge you're verifying and learning all around the country. Would love to see a future video specifically about the new info, techniques, and baits you've acquired on the road and are bringing home to put to use. Thanks again!

I caught my biggest fish in July off of fallen trees or Lilly pads. Biggest fish was like a 3 foot flip from shore. A lot of people cast miles but forget in the summer you can catch them a couple feet from shore.
