Owned on of those, with the Ford 4 cyl engine that had an "known issue". There is a hose leading the motor fumes back into the engine. Theses hoses would often break and send the fumes into the air intakes for the cabin, potentially gasing the driver and passengers to death. Being a Ford construction you had to take the entire engine apart to replace this hose. Cost about $600 =)
I'm surprised you didn't talk more about the interior. Volvos are some of the softest cars I have ever sat in. Just ssssoooffffttttt. Everything squishes. Also, those are impressive numbers on the engine to murder with an oatmeal transmision

As a Volvo driver, I really want to complain about this review, but I kind of can't. It's comfortable, damnit. It's just really, really comfortable. Driving it carries all of the excitement of watching the beige paint dry in a spec house. Pushing it is pointless, because even at 100+ mph, you'll want to nod off. The gas mileage isn't great, and the reliability is on par with a Hyundai Accent, but with (somewhat) higher repair costs. Purchased new, the depreciation makes you question every life choice you've ever made. But it's comfortable. And safe. And warm. Basically, it is indeed oatmeal. But oatmeal is nice on a rainy day. And at some point, life becomes Seattle. Every day brings more rain. And when you reach that stage, a Volvo is pretty great.
You still driving your Volvo? I really like your comment, I’m kinda surprised it doesn’t have likes. Would you recommend a 2010 xc70 with that same engine? The in-line 3.2 6?
I need to bring you my wife’s 2005 S80 Premier! With a refrigerator in between the rear seats behind the armrest. Dual DVD players in the front seat headrests. It shocks the troops!

I once won a week long test drive at the auto show with this model year S80 with the V8 awd and it was good in the same way that we go to an automated car wash and there’s always that left over residue on the back of the car that just doesn’t get cleaned. We accept it while we look at it saying back to ourselves as an affirmation that we got a great wash this time.

The overseas delivery program sounds like a nice way to be able to drive yourself around on an extended vacation, then come home with a new car. My SAAB was originally purchased from their similar International Diplomatic Sales program by a local state university professor who was guest lecturer in Norway for a semester, which is exactly who this car is for.
The 280 horsepower is actually quoted for the 3.0 Turbo version of this engine, not the 3.2 naturally aspirated. I have a 2010 V70 wagon with the 3.0 engine (T6) and it feels much quicker than the looks suggest and I thought my car was really quiet even after removing the middle muffler, but when heard from the outside it's actually quite loud for a car like this, and I love the sound of that inline 6! It's not really a sporty car by any means, it's just a comfortable cruiser with a capable engine and fast enough to overtake a lot of cars on the highway and win at the lights sometimes.
@C C Because Volvo-fans are weird. I should know because I kinda am one (even though I drive a Fiat because I can't afford a Volvo because the parts cost too much).

The S80 is fantastic, smooth, comfortable, fast enough and reliable as hell. The V8 is great. The D5 is probably the best version, strong like an ox.
I'm a huge Volvo fan boy and I never liked the D5 it just seems pointless, I find it drinks far too much fuel for too little power gain over the D4 and if you really want a powerful diesel car just get a BMW 530d gets the same kind of economy but makes more power.

There’s nothing boring about mine - with the same engine

That feeling when you see the exact same year, make, and model of the car you own on RCR...and they hit the nail on the head.
I will say though: that fake manual is a godsend in the snow.
My previous neighbor picked up a couple Volvo's in Sweden. You get to pick out lots of custom, tour the factory, see them build it, and then have 6 weeks to drive around with the car. Drop it off at the port and head home. Then a few months later it shows up at the dealership.

Woah a transverse in-line 6, that’s not something you see everyday
@Deez Nuts P3 platform was designed to make every type of body style with and without AWD. Plus safety.
It's based on the Inline-5. The basic engineering was intended to be used in 4, 5, and 6 cylinder variants.
@@stevevarholy2011 Si6 and modular engines are different. The 2.8L inline-6 was the one that the 5-cyl was based on. The 3.2L and 3.0L are Si6 for use by Ford globally.
@@connorPiper0 Excellent. Thank you for the clarification. My knowledge stops at the P2s.
@@stevevarholy2011 Yea, Si6 stands for Short Inline-6 because the 3.2L 6-cyl is shorter than the 2.4 5-cyl. For better fitment in more vehicles and transverse. I think the Land Rover LR2 uses it.

0:51 this pisses me off so much and its 101% true.
Lol! Ur vids are so on point I can’t 🤣I just bought a 03 2.9 s80 and I love it. At 29 I thought I would be in something sporty, maybe I’ll wait till my mid life crisis for that. Best line AND retort I’ve ever heard

First car was a 2001 model of this. Nice to have happy memories...

I had an S60 and it was exceptional. They all have traction control and once you turn it off, the car actually preforms really well. Comfortable (the most comfortable seats I've ever known) and quiet. Mine was a 'T5' so had turbos 5 cyl and it didn't have any trouble getting out of its own way.
I've wanted an s60 or s70 for years. Now is the time i need to take action. They are cheap as ever and still good chances of finding decent low mile options out there. An s60r T5 would be a dream to build up as a daily driver/sleeper car.

The rear heated seats don't work because the rear seat heater switch went bad on the back of the center console. Had the same issue in my 09 s80.
