The Barney and robin wedding i mean it starts with s6 and i thought it’d be Cindy’s wedding but then the s6 finale reveals Barney and I wonder who the bride I think it’s Nora till they break up but then when he gets engaged to Quinn I think it’s her until the s7 finale reveals that it’s robin and I wanna how and the way it happened is really sweet
The “Time Travelers, You’re All Alone” ending was totally worthy of being included on this list. But number 2, the death of Tracy Moseby, and ultimately the long term demise of the entire series, is definitely number 1.
Lily dropping the news to Marshall that his dad didn't make it was so heartbreaking. The fact that Jason had no idea of what Alyson would tell him makes it a double gut punch.
Marshall’s dad dying was done so brilliantly. It didn’t hit me quite as hard until I rewatched it for some reason. I think it was just so brilliant because the countdown was such an exciting feature, and it sort of built up a sense of whimsy and made you feel safe and comfortable and then it just hit you right in the gut out of nowhere with something so genuinely agonising. It was brilliantly pulled off. I have so much admiration for whoever’s idea the countdown was. It will always stick with me. And Jason’s choice to be oblivious to the reveal and improv his genuine reaction to hearing the news was just an amazing piece of acting👏🏼
If you were surprised by Barney becoming a dedicated father, you didn’t pay attention to the series. Barney consistently had a soft spot for children, with perhaps the best example being his brother’s marriage. Barney had been adamantly opposed to his brother’s wedding until he found out that he and his husband were adopting a baby. From that moment on, Barney was incredibly supportive and took great pride in being an uncle.
As far as I’m concerned, Tracy never died and Barney and Robin stayed married. That is how the show ended for me. I hate that they went through all that to say that Ted and Robin weren’t good together, but Robin and Barney were, only to throw all of it out the window on the last episode. And yes, I am aware of the guest appearances on HIMYF. And while I did like them, and they do go with that original ending to HIMYM, I still hate that original ending.
100% agree....like to have entire 24 ep season 9 based on just the 3 day weekend wedding of Barney & Robin to then in the finale tell us they got divorced was bloody BS
Craig Thomas & Carter Bays could teach a master class in worst series finales of all time because they truly nailed it. I mean, Lost has a controversial ending that split the fanbase but even that did not undo the entire series rendering it utterly pointless making the the fans feel like they wasted the last 8 years of their lives watching it. It’s truly a series finale that lives in infamy.
I can't believe that the finale aired almost a full decade ago now. In my mind, the alternative ending of Ted recounting all the events that lead to him meeting Tracy is the true conclusion.
@@DaniloOliveira36. I’ve been truly hoping that HIMYM show creators would write at least one more episode of something to carry us true fans of HIMYM through the passing of Tracy Moseby.
I’m still so upset by the original ending because they actually pulled of something impossible. They spent eight years building the mother up to be this perfect woman who could never possibly live up to our expectations- and then somehow against all odds; she was perfect. She actually was, and we adored her. And then they decided to kill her off before we even really saw her with Ted; it was like they’d made it to the end of the race, but then they took away the finished line. As a result- the last season just sits horribly and it’s so sad because it had everything going for it😢
dude leading up to the comment i kept wondering why barney was being such an ass meeting his dad. my first thoughts were that he was throwing a tantrum like a 5 year old. then he dropped that line "because if you were gonna be some lame suburban dad why couldn't you be that for me???" and suddenly, i was 100% with his behavior. that hit so hard.
Other fact about the storyline with Robin unable to have kids....that partially mirrored Cobie Smulders real life. She was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2007 when she was 25. So there was a chance she wouldn't be able to have kids. Thankfully, she had surgery, simultaneously beat cancer and has been cancer-free since 2015. Plus, her and her husband Taran (who played Gary Blauman on the show) have two children.
The death of the mother, Tracy, was shocking and sad. I'm glad an alternate ending was included in the Season 9 DVD. But had the writers not killed Tracy, the show could have run a few more seasons. Ted's problem was that he was too fixated on Robin. But I still love the show.
I’m probably in the minority here but I never felt like Robin being unable to have kids was that big of a surprise - I was more shocked when she told Barney she was pregnant (or believed she was) bc she has made it so crystal clear from square one she doesn’t want to be a parent … there could have been a great opportunity show her exercising her right to choose and having that be the journey she goes throughout that particular arc
"Barney gets hit by a bus." I wonder how much Barney made.. since the bus was going the wrong way since it was... ONE WAY. Bus was going the wrong direction.
I always hated it when Barney met he’s real dad because he doesn’t deserve have he’s childhood with him in the first place but he’s speech that he just gave him it makes me feel even more sadder and he took the basketball hoop afterwards he says goodbyes too
The hoop scene between Barney and his dad was heartbreaking. The Barney and Robin 2nd breakup was annoying. It was such a rug pull because how it happened in the episode after the wedding but they had done such a good job of making it believable this time, their first time together it wasn't, and then to do that just to force Ted and Robin together in an hour long episode was dumb. And I will post on any video about Marshall's dad. Didn't notice the #'s until the end and thought "what's up with the numbers?" Then when it showed the empty workshop I just said "oh no." It was so well done and also heartbreaking. The fact that Jason didn't know the twist at the end until Allison said the line just adds to the gut punch.
1. The finale that destroyed years of character development, made half the show pointless, ruined the two best relationships the show had (Barney/Robin and Ted/tracy) and almost completely kills any rewatch ability. Don’t believe me? Can you watch any of Barney and Robin without knowing they break up? NO
I just started rewatching the show this week for the first time in years. And I feel this cloud over me because of knowing how it turns out. All this here is exactly why I don't support the original ending.
@@SoliRhymesWithJulie exactly. How can we enjoy watching teds journey when we know how it ends? Or Barney grow as a character? Or him and Robin growing closer? I wasn't surprised when the Mother was dead. I thought it was obvious early on. It's called How I MET Your Mother. So the story will end with them meeting. And him telling the story alone was a clue that he was telling them the story because she was dead.
I have been telling people for a long time about the stripper having the same name as the mother and everyone never believes me until they see it for themselves. I guess knowing the mother’s name early isn’t really a big deal you just know all the people Ted dates aren’t going to be the mother.
Both are good. So there's no telling which is better 1. Friends provides lots of laughs 2. Himym may not have a lot of laughs but It has hearts. A warm feeling that relaxes you
I'm still salty about that ending. It's an insult to fans that Ted would get together with Robin in the end. Especially because the actors of Ted and Stacey had fantastic on-screen chemistry.
The death of the mother was way too rushed. They should have spent the whole last season on their relationship together instead of a wedding where the couple will just get divorced anyhow.
I loved every thing about this show-- Except- I didn’t like the countdown to his dad dying.?? Like why are we counting down to the death of a side character..? But I loved The way they build up to the mom reveal (even the twist) felt true to the character and how he tells stories..it shows how he doesn’t want to admit he’s moving on from the passing of his wife but at the same time, over emphasizing her importance in his life out of respect for his kids.
It is sweet that Barney is responsible for rekindling lily but at the same time it doesn't really make sense bc before the episode they got back together, Barney hooked marshal up with a pair of twins.
I will never be more insulted by a series than by HIMYM. The show runners/writers could teach a master class in what not to do when writing a series finale… don’t write it in season two and lock yourself in so that you destroy your characters growth & show’s natural evolution in the last two minutes ruining it.
Even though i don't watch this series, this was a great top. Have a happy thursday afternoon , Phoebe, and God bless you, greetings from Colombia to you as well.
I'd like to see a top ten HIMYM fan theories list, one I've come up with is that Robin was a Canadian porn star in the 90s and Ted being the narrator, changed her to a fallen pop star to keep it PG. Evidence for this comes from: the opening of Let's go to the mall, a brief snippet of Space Teens using an equation that adds up to 69, and Robin Daggers representing her mental state after developing an addiction to dangerous substances following a traumatic experience while filming in a mall ( altered to a Paul Shaffer obsession by Ted). The last one may have contributed to her fertility issues and fear of malls.
