    The log splitter now works fine, the hydraulic fluid was too thick in the cold weather.

    Okay, it's getting a little safer than what it was, try to find a pipe that can slip on to the handle so your face/head is further away in case, as you said that the chunk of wood explodes, being as close as you were is a safety hazard in the beginning, the ability to be back away from it reduces the injury results significantly, if you ask me, as for a gas log splitter, most already have a ball hitch coupler to go behind your car or yard tractor, if you do get one, get a vertical/horizontal, about a twenty ton power,

    • @post10Vlogs
      @post10Vlogs  Год назад +5

      I could honestly use that lever with my other foot, you can't put like a piece of pipe or something on it because it has to go down towards the floor maybe a 90-degree with a pipe

  • @LogiForce86
    @LogiForce86 Год назад +3

    Glad to see that footpedal is working for you, Post. Just wish it was a momentary switch in the pedal, so that the machine would return when you let go off of the pressure. In other words, it would operate so long as your foot was on it. If you jumped back because of a log exploding, it would stop immediately.

    • @PainterD54
      @PainterD54 2 месяца назад

      Harbor freight also sells a momentary switch that turns the motor on only with your foot on it and shuts off as soon as you release the pedal.

  • @iihype01

    That's amazing. Wish i thought of that last spring. All you need to do now is extend that lever so you can split wood in a standing position.

    • @post10Vlogs

      I can probably just use the lever with my other foot, I can't put a pipe on it because it has to go in the position towards the floor but maybe a 90° angle and a pipe

    NICE, those harbor freight warranties are the best. Hoping that this one just needs to get broken in and will start running better. Once the Grease in the motor gets distributed a bit better or something. Might help to run it in a warm environment for a bit so it settles where it needs to be

    Not sure if you are into it or not but there are dozens of designs for home-built log splitters online. Most of them are gas-powered, but I'm sure you could do an electric version. I like home-built tools because you can build them to spec / repair them more easily when they break and the learning process is also fun.

    You can entertain yourself with these cheap DIY log splitters for a while. Sooner or later you just want stability, reliablilty and machines what works without constant tinkering. Then you buy a not so cheap, semi-industrial splitter. Doesn't matter if electric or gasoline. The question is, how much money and time you throw out in the imaginary window, till you say, enough waste. :)

  • @jurzdevil
    @jurzdevil Год назад +1

    I have a similar design electric 5 ton unit from years ago, tractor supply i think. Same concern with the two hand operation, basically your face ends up right over the log and if the log doesnt sit perfect in the splitter it has a high chance of kicking up. almost got hit a couple times. the button in mine is in a different position so i was able to take a piece of rebar and weld it to the handle then bend it over so when you push down on the handle/rebar it hits the button and kicks it on. then releasing it shuts off and the piston springs back.
    much safer to keep a hand up above the log to stop it from snapping up. really have to pay attention to where your hand is but its worth it to keep a log from popping up into your face.

    if you want to have an electric hydraulic splitter, I would suggest getting the parts needed to build one as you can leave the electric motor running, to keep the hydraulic pressure up and you will have more complete control over where the pusher goes.. I have seen a gas splitter converted over to electric once before.

    Mine is a 6 ton Powersmart, It to destructive for me to have in the Garage. To bang up the wall and all the mess! When those logs explodes! The logs shoot out with legal force. I put mine on concert blocks and build a cover to lift off and on it > IT STAYS OUT SIDE > That the only thing i will have is? Cord electric power tools. NO WAY WILL I EVER OWN, ANOTHER GAS ENGINE POWER TOOLS! The electric tools are more cheaper, dependable, lighter, and less NOISE. I would go death lessening to a noisy gas engine. Plus all the headache from it

    So yes i love electric power tools! At 1st i didn't like my powersmart splitter, More i used it the more i like it. REALLY LIKE IT NOW. The way i got it on the concert blocks, and rig up! HANDS FREE OPERATION. On the block all i did was extend the lever handle out, took a rope loop it from the lever down to a wooden foot peddle, up to the power button. With a stick wedge between the button! I press the peddle pulls down the lever and button at the same time. MY BODY IS NO WHERE AROUND THE DAM THING These electric log splitters need to be 12 ton. I can get by with the 6 ton. Just the GNARLY RED OAK LOGS > NEEDS TO BE 12 TON I'am splitting these logs at 10 to 33" round! the big one, i use a wedge to bust them into half, so i can lift them. It is faster than splitting them with a wedge or maul. Just wrestling these logs around what wears me out. THE GNARLY ONES

    I just put a bungee cord from the lever to the axel to hold it down. It let me place the pusher where I wanted by lifting up on the lever ( the lever needs to be up to allow the piston to retract) and then just used the button ( or foot switch) to operate the motor. That allowed me to have one hand free.
