Man dealerships around here would be making a ton of money if they all had their very own PTT Arod in the service dept. I for one would NEVER go anywhere else for 6.7 service if my local place had one.
Spot on buddy!!! You're exactly right, it's at least an 80k truck. Have some damn pride! Also, been pre filling oil filters as long as I've been twisting wrenches, (35yrs)... Never had an issue. Spread the word and keep preaching the message.
You’re right Arod. I tighten the living hell out of my filter on my first oil change cause I thought it was leaking, but in fact it was due to the oil sitting on top. ‘Spot on’ instructions my man 👍🏼💪🏼
Thanks ARod... been using the oil filter box as a support for years on the yukon and silverado i had years ago. Still use it for the Duty today and prefill straight from the T6 Rotella bottle. Honestly, after my first oil change when purchased, i had a moment when i seen how much oil residue was on the filter in place and a few days after changing it. Have added the brake clean to my process now, to keep the bottom clean as possible to identify anything out of the ordinary/odd leaks or wet areas.
Oil filter prefill! The professional way to do it. Some guys with many years don't do that. "You might get a contaminant in there." Yet piston aircraft engines often don't even have an oil filter. They're fine and under a lot more stress. They last for decades.
As a 21yr aircraft mechanic, I absolutely love when we get fed up with stupid cases of laziness. We have an imbedded strand of DNA to be volatile A-holes without anyone knowing. Well done

Thinking about replacing my old plastic lower oil pan (2011). Have never liked it, but never really been a problem either. I just don’t like the idea.
That was the first thing I changed on my 11, I couldn’t stand the plastic pan or plug. I went with one that also has the drain plug on the bottom….because that makes more sense to me.
@@paulhelmuth6012 anything is better than that plastic pan/plug combo they had going on. I replaced mine very early on after I bought my truck so a metal OEM one wasn’t an option, I probably would have gone that rout though.

I’ve followed your guidance for keeping the filter clean for the past few oil changes I’ve done. Even using some cheap canned brake clean and using two blue shop paper towels I keep my filter clean. 👍🏽 One of these days I’ll up my game and include the air compressor, but for now it works pretty good. 💪🏽 Thanks as always!
So I did the first oil change since purchasing my used 2020 dually. I thought I cleaned up everything real well. The next morning, there's a big run of oil down the side of the filter. I thought the filter was defective and purchased another one. After replacing it, there was another big blob of oil on the side. It dawned on me that it was spill over from the change. So out came the Brakleen and now it's pristine white. I wish I'd seen this video before the first attempt. So I've been binge watching all your videos. Putting a little tip on your channel.
After a service I use a sureshot sprayer and get the whole bottom side of the motor and around the oil filter. 140k miles only time I’ve had an oily filter is when I didn’t clean up afterwards. I do use Donaldson filters now though
My F550 company truck with a mechanic bed, doesn't look like that. I have always cleaned the filter after installed. (Brake clean) As far as filling the new filter, couldn't care less. I don't fill them. I worked at a Caterpillar dealership in the 90's into the mid 2000's. The instructors ALWAYS told us not to fill new oil or fuel filters. It stuck with me. I don't fill the filters. And if you know anything about the size of heavy equipment engines (3408 Cat used in larger dozers and loaders) depending on the application, could have two oil filters. Never had a problem. But the people who go into a tailspin about filling or not filling filters are just crazy.
Many years ago when I was doing an oil change on 5.9 cummins the owner who was a John Deere tractor engineer came to me and said to never pre fill the filter cause of impurities that could be in the oil without being filtered going straight to the crank. So many different ways to do things I think as long as your clean about its ok to pre fill filter but when doing my own oil change on my 6.7 PSD I won’t pre fill due to the fact. Its hard to see what exactly in the 1 gallons oil jugs. I now use a funnel with a small screen on it to filter any unwanted material. I’ve found pieces of plastic from the jug on the funnel screen. We all got to be smart cause we have no control where our oil might be coming from. People make mistakes everyday.
I was told in maintenance department at a government facilities any vertical filter should always be filled to keep bearings from running dry I learned this after I bought my 6.7 and had not filled it when changing my filter 😂
I have never had a problem but that plastic oil pan drools some .... If that filter has a bit of dirt on it and not dripping, it's not leaking. But, with that said, if I do my own oil change, I let it drip for at least 30 minutes and usually more while I putter with tire checks, radiator and brake fluid levels etc, etc, etc, and never a smudge. Unfortunately those home DIY oil changes are a thing of the past where we now live so I get the "privilege" of paying a stealership $150 or so bucks - but the tech also gets to do a tire rotation too
I put mileage on my filter with a sharpie just for the hell of it I also reset oil life What do you think about guys like me running 15/40 in warm climates like Miami
I wish my 2011 had some oil leaks/free rustproofing. She came from NY and has a bad case of the crusties. Welding in some new rocker panels on the cab this week.
So, how many "traditional" or single use brake clean cans do you use per oil change? That's about $5-$7 per can in brake cleaner. I get that you've got that re-useable sprayer. Not every shop has that.
I wish my $80k truck was that clean! Right now it looks like it was just pulled out from the bottom of the community shop parts washer that hasn't been cleaned in 2 years. Shame on Ford for knowingly letting oil pans be sealed with the wrong sealant and then leaving the customers to eat the $4k bill to fix it.
If it aint leaving puddles, im not concerned. All truck fleets run the crap outta their trucks and wont stop to fix nothing till one of 3 things. 1, it dont run. 2, I fail the DOT inspection andf wont tag it.. 3, I threaten them with the potential of death if they dont fix it. Major fleets and I mean major from trash truck companies, shipping fleets, emergency vehicles, material handling, all of em. bottom line is what counts. But if the equipment breaks and cannot be run all, fix at any and all costs as fast as possible, money is not the issue, the downtime to repair and maintain is what they hate. My truck has less than 75k, I've changed the oil regularly and for a long time the oil turns black soon after a fresh change. Why is it getting so black so fast?
Did Ford change the oil filter part number because when I went to my dealer and picked up a filter I’ve always gotten part number FL-2051-S now they are saying in the Ford computer it calls for FL-2124-S? I have both in my hand and they look identical, so what gives?
