- Today I'm working with the lovely Ella from FiveTwenty management in Sydney, Australia. We had such a lovely shoot, and the photos ended up in her book! Wanted to share my process of shooting in studio with you.

Hey there my birthday is on 26th November too 🎂🎂🎂
This is a perfect example of the type of photos a new model would want from a test shoot. Clean hair and makeup, simple styling, and soft light to really show the features of the model. I know a lot of models who get scammed in the beginning of their journey by agencies who charge them crazy amounts for test shoots before even signing them, photos which are over-retouched with ridiculous styling. A round of applause for Jessica and Ella 👏
Correct. Simple clean styling. It would have been interesting to see the rest of her book. There needs to be some much more edgy shots too. Strong black and white location etc.
Thank you so so much!
How much should test shoots generally cost when starting out?
I love how good you are at directing and encouraging the models you’re so good at making them feel comfortable I love it 😊
We agree
I would still love to see a video where you explain why the most of ANTM photos aren’t useable in a portfolio!!
Ikr? Nigel Barker isn't a good photographer at all. I don't know how he got that gig lol.
I second this!!
I’d love to see that too! The only top model series to have legitimate portfolio ready shoots was Australia, those girls were actually taking Vogue, W, V, level photo shoots it was pretty amazing
You know you're watching a master when they make it look so easy.
Not in that case tho ..
Jessica in the studio, do my eyes deceive me!? Beautiful work as always!
I love how you were directing her throughout. I'm someone who hates having my solo pictures taken especially posed pics because they never look good. But I remember this one time my cousin sister who is a pro at taking pictures directed me on how my chin should be where should I put my hand and so forth and the pictures looked bomb. Like I couldn't believe it was me. So yeah direction is very very important
Would love to see a breakdown on what photos a modeling portfolio would be useful compared to ANTM shoots
That has been on my to do list....it will definitely be filmed soon!
I LOVE shooting in studios (anywhere indoors really). So much control over the light and possibilities are endless. Can't wait till I can shoot inside again. Lovely video :)
These are great, you should have a 'play day' in the studio, blast the flash off the ceiling, try some back light, beauty dish set ups etc, I'm sure once you have a few lighting ideas under your belt, studio work will become more fun. I shoot a lot of agency folios, and it can be a great way to try out new lighting ideas / looks 🙌🏻🙌🏻
such an even tone when talking. love it. Thank you for the tips! love watching these!
Jessica!!! You really know how to capture a Model's true beauty and natural attractiveness! This is why I love your content and videos and just seeing you progress as a photographer over the years, you're truly so talented and I'm so happy that you're a trustworthy, and AMAZING photographer in this business. I love u so much! I always wanted to model, but I'm short and have a rare skin condition. ^_^ I love your content keep it up!
These are stunning. You inspired me to take up my camera again, by taking up, I mean, point and shoot and hoping it isn't blurry lol, but it's fun. I'll stick to being a budding writer for now lol.
It's cool to see nice photos captured using simple lighting. I probably would use a smaller softbox for keylight, add a fill light and also a hair light personally, could even do a 185 umbrella with a speedlight behind and your keylight in-front but both of those create a very different exposure than perhaps you or the model wanted if you were just going for soft lighting.
These looks great! All you need is one good light, know where to place and shoot. Learn that and from there you can really mold you light. Great job Jessica! One light along with an amazing photographer for the win!
Thank you so much!!!
hehe, that ending 😂❤ lovely shots as always, and ella is stunning and seems very sweet!! x
Remind me when I did some personal work in studio. Awesome work by you and team.
Love the rawness of this video. Love you sis!
I love that you are using a 5D Mark IV. I love my 5D Mark II. It still takes amazing pictures.
I’m so late to this video but omg the vibes 😫🤭 I love when people you work with match your energy
Thank you for including you shutter f stop and iso. It's an awesome learning tool :)
Quality work and great people skills. Thanks for the videos.
always fireeee!!😍😍
Beautiful pics and beautiful model❤ well done
Yall r so beautiful! inside and out
I don't use softbox anymore. I turn the V flat into a light source by bouncing a non diffused QT 600iii beam into a V flat as my key light. And I use a second V flat as fill.
You should try it. And see what kind of images you will get.
I think you demand too much.
Haha, good job maintaining composure while dialing in the settings, I know I always tend to panic when pictures arent turning out the way I want them too. Beautiful pictures.
The edit of the pictures is gorgeous !!
We agree
It was nice to see you shooing in a studio :)
Jessica, for an ANTM reacts vid, please do a reaction to the way they treated London about her weight (cycle 12). Love your vids and photography!
Were you hired for this one or offered it? It's probably not easy to film professional stuff but it would be really interesting to see videos of your professional paid shoots, as in ones you were hired for rather than ones you do yourself.
I literally typed this in the other day and could not find a video on it so thank you!!!!!!!!!
Love the setup , Love the color. Was your preset used? if so which one was it.
Thanks
I'd die to be one of your models 😭 you're an awesome photographer and person 💛
Your direction of the model is amazing
You are so kind, thank you!
Great collaboration
Yay! 😄
Amazing video Jessica
I never see you in-studio! checking these out
Dope video!
When I first started in photography that shutter speed thing happened to me too.
Would be amazing to see more of these Videos
We agree
You just answered a question I had about my flash, I just started using it and could figure out why they were half shadowing 🤣 tysm
omg literally me every time lmao
Hey, this is a flash sync speed issue. The Canon 5D Mk4 is 1/200 I think, the R5 is 1/250, and there are a few out there that are 1/160. Just check your camera manual under flash sync speed. That is the fastest that the shutter can go before you see the shutter in the photo. Faster than that, you can use high speed sync, but that takes flash power away as you get micro bursts to cover the full time that the shutter is open so the scene is lit evenly while the shutter travels.
hi, what lenses and what camera do you use for this job?
DO MORE CONTENT LIKE THIS JESSICA...
Her earrings are so pretty
not related to photography but what nail polish are you wearing?
wich preset using here??
This be great for clothing or jewelry brand photos or make a short video for E Commerce site.
Hi. I'm writing a story about a model (fictional), and I have a question. Once you've taken all the photos, do you make a contact sheet and let the model look at it with a loupe? I wasn't sure if contact sheets were still being used in this digital age. Also, can a model choose one of the photos to use in her Facebook page profile? Thanks for any info.
how do you connect your camera to the flash? for some reason, I don't know if I'm looking it up wrong but I can't figure it out yet lol
also amazing video!!!
You use a transmitter that you place directly on top of your camera! That connects the flash :) I can do a more in depth video as I was super confused on all things studio when I first started...it can be very intimidating!
@@JessicaKobeissi thank you so much! Yes, if you could, that would be so great! You're videos are sooo helpful and I've learned a lot :) Hope you had a great holiday!
What about the lens distortion?
Aw I miss modelling sometimes
Im too early I can’t quote what random humor Jessica said in this video 🙃
Ps: girrrll the shutterspeed accident happened to me too 😂 darn thing is cranked way up to a thousand lmaooo
Hahaa I always forget to adjust 🤣🤣
She looks so much like Hailey Bieber ☺️💗
nice
I swear I never get the thumbnails from this kind of videos, just de antm ones. I have been wondering if you stopped making them all year and today I realized yt didn’t showed them to me 😭
Models's Portfolio
Nice pic's
Today is my birthday , I'm a Sagittarius. That comment gave me a giggle.
Modeling
Ever messed with the models you shoot where you stop taking pictures and ask:
“I don’t know if you know who you are? Who ARE you? What is your life story? Do you really wanna be on top?” 😜
I ams shocked that J.Kosebsi is suprired that her camera aproduced a black frame at 1/400sec and banding at 1/200sec. (2:00min). After all these years she should have a minimum technical understanding of her equippment. I wound if she is skillful as a photography educator. And seeing her lighting setup at 2:30min, which produced underlighting (=horror light) I am ever more in doublt about her qualification.
I used to watch her back in the day when I first started. It isn't until you become a pro yourself when you're able to look at RUclips "photographers" with a critical eye. A bit disappointed at the fact that after so long., she still refuses to learn off camera flash and studio. It's okay to have a preference, but as a professional, you should be able to know how to shoot in a variety of different lighting scenarios and be able to control lighting and your settings. Most of them shoot overly wide open, wide focal length, during golden hour, in front of whatever flower bush they can find and slap a professional model in there. It's impressive to amateurs no doubt
not to critique you Jessica but why isn't she covered in spiders and nacho cheese with people yelling out insults as a film crew films? Hm? HM? lol (great photos as alwaysss!
