My biggest 'wow' moment recently was on the 29th January. Just after 9.30am I got a massive crushing chest pain. I phoned 111 and within 10 minutes the first responder arrived. 2 or 3 minutes later the ambulance got here. By then then first responder had done an ECG and worked out that a blood clot was blocking the main artery in my heart. 5 minutes after the ambulance arrived we were on the way to hospital and the first responder was talking to them telling them what the was happening. Within minutes of arriving at hospital, I was in surgery. I was in hospital for 5 days. I am a new Zealander. But it stills blows my mind that all this cost me nothing. I haven't been billed a single cent for any of the amazing treatment and care I received.
Thanks so much for sharing this experience! That really is amazing! Glad to hear that the emergency response arrived so quickly and that all the treatment didn’t cost you anything! Hope you’re better now 💐
I bet the covid vaccines is to blame.
Totally agree. I broke my arm 18months ago. Our local hospital doesn’t do Surgery so l had to travel down to Whangarei hospital.
They were amazing. My travel costs to and from hospital for surgery, checkups and my physio were all subsidised.
Apart from some petrol costs, everything else was free.
So I'm from South Africa as well. Joburg's side. And I am not on my 3rd week in Auckland. Really been looking at your channel since you moved here and it has helped out a lot. Me and my family are moving here in a bit of a different way than you did but a lot of your advice and experiences have helped us out a lot. Still helping us out a lot. Thank you for all the info you have given guys.🥳🥃 Hope to see you guys around Auckland some time. Need some friends here 😂 Auckland has WOWed me as well. And hopefully will continue to wow us down the line.
That's awesome! Yes, everyone might have the same destination, but everyone's journey looks a bit different, and I'm sure it's a lot more hectic for the families with kids 😬😅 Would be great to meet up sometime ☕
WOW HERE IS THE AWESOME TWOSOME AGAIN LOVE THEM 👍👍👍👍
Hi you2, yes me again, you are living in South Africa sixty years ago. Yes, that is how it was when I was going to primary school, exactly. Boy, those were the GOOD days. Freedom as a child is an understatement, you had the world at your feet. I am so happy that you2 are enjoying the same what I experienced as a child, lovely. Nothing can supersede the word FREEDOM. Waiting for next Friday. Greetings, Thailand.
Yep remember those days well. Went back for a couple of months recently, an absolute nightmare, but the funniest is the homeless acting as traffic police at the traffic lights 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Hi Thailand 👋😅 Totally agree and we appreciate this feeling of safety and freedom everyday 🙏
Not been to New Zealand but lived in Sydney for many years (back in SA now) and i can relate to all your things listed, for me, public transport was incredible, not looking over your shoulder or worrying about security (for most part) public parks and state forrest’s were amazing, clean and safe. Not seeing burglar bars, security gates, no such thing as electric fencing :) …….enjoy all that it offers and i am enjoying seeing what it has to offer
Totally agree! Public transport is awesome and still so weird not see fences around houses 😅
WHAT THE BIGGEST BURGLAR ARE THE KEA GANG OF NZ
@@BeingBedingfield hahaha indeed, my first week in Australia, i was walking around (as you do) and noticed about 5 strands of wiring on top of a side fence/wall, my first thought was, ohh my word its an electric fence…….turns out it was wire for a creeper(plant) to grow across…boy did i feel like an idiot - lol
Baie awesome! 😊
We’re in England and feel the same way. So many things to do.
Keep up with the great videos. We really enjoying them.
Oh ja, we’re in Toti for a holiday now. 😉👍
Must be great being in England…so quick to travel to many amazing places 🤗😅
Aww…Toti! Hope you have an amazing time there ☀️
Thanks so much for your comment 🙏😊
@@BeingBedingfield you would think it is amazing being so close to Europe, but believe it or not, we haven’t traveled to a single European country yet. We moved there just before Brexit went through and then Covid hit which got us stuck in England. We said we’ll start travelling this year, so let’s see where we’ll go. 😊
I worked for Qatar Airways as cabin crew in the past, so just like you with the cabin crew on the ships, the travel bug bit me too! We love driving around all the time and exploring (especially) the sea side, but it still doesn’t compare to flying somewhere. 😄
I am so glad to hear how much safer you both feel ❤️ definitely not something to take for granted!
I love all of the trails and how pedestrian friendly your area is. I can't wait to see where else you take us...but the prices of those 🍅 😳 wowza!
😂😂 yeah, that’s the same reaction we had towards the 🍅🍅🍅 😅
@@BeingBedingfield 😆we probably wouldn't be eating tomatoes for a while!
Moved to Auckland from Cape Town 3 weeks ago. My wow is how friendly people are here. And I grew up in the friendly city PE.
Welcome to NZ 😅 Totally agree...the people are soooo friendly! Hope you guys are settling in nicely!
Aww glad yr loving your new home.. another wow factor is when walking through parks ect... no snakes... lol yay
Yes!!! That is awesome 🤗😅
Congrats cuzzies
Nicely constructed video 🏆
Thanks so much 😊
Really enjoy your channel, sent some links to friends back in SA who are thinking of coming to NZ. We have been in NZ since May 2015 and one of our biggest wows is still that the postal system works so well. We have been on both Islands, currently on South Island and it is best.
Thanks so much guys, really appreciate it :)
Yes! Totally agree, the postal system is amazing...the fact that our driver's licences got posted to us blew our minds!
It's crazy considering we grow some of the best fruit and veg in the world not to mention best dairy and meat. One of the reasons it's also expensive is distribution costs with high fuel and a major shortage of truck drivers here.
In the north vegies grow pretty much all year round. You can even get tomatoes to grow through winter, though slowly, lettuces will grow year round if not frost exposed. Other vege as well. Give it a go
Congrats 🎉
Thank you 💕
Six incredible months! Wow! So happy for you guys & you’ve helped so many others too by sharing your vlogs! Well done 👏🏻 NZ does look incredibly beautiful 😍 thank you for keeping us entertained with armchair travels! 😉
Thanks so much Helen! I love that...armchair travels, would make a great name for a RUclips channel 😅
Another wonderful video guys, thanks
Thanks so much Stevie, really appreciate it!
My wife and I are coming in April, we cannot wait and thank you for your videos, it gave us a lot of insight and helped us prepare for the big move :)
That's so exciting! And just around the corner! How are you guys feeling?
Wow! Their communication update system does seem impressive. I don't think we have such good communication in the US. So glad that you feel safer in NZ and can truly relax. Looks like you guys are really loving it!
We are really amazed by all the systems in place here, and feel a lot safer. So grateful to be here 😊
Beautiful 😻 great video! I’m baby stepping behind you…will get there😅 amazing
So excited for you :)
Can’t believe it’s been 6 months!!!!! You two have really settled in nicely! So happy for you! Great video guys! ~Cara 😊
Hi Cara, time really flies! I kept checking the calendar and counting the months to make sure it really has been that long hehe 😅
I live in Auckland and even l say WOW! Thanks you 😊
Very beautiful, and nice to know that you are safe 😃👌🙏
Thanks Angie :)
Happy to have you here.
Thanks so much :)
Mair park is beautiful 1st world makes such a difference love your updates and so happy for you both. My two are loving living there.
It's so beautiful, we'll have to go back and film the full track though hehe Are your kids in the same area as us?
Insane how it's 6 months. My wife and my daughter was born 9 months ago, I'd just started watching you guys. Crazy how much has changed in such a short amount of time. I must say, we watch your NZ vids keenly because for our daughters sake, we are wanting to also leave.
I was in NZ for 5 weeks, there was not one thing I could say I didn't like.
Hi Robert 👋 thanks so much and we really appreciate all your comments 🙏
Yeah, a lot can change in 6 months! Especially when it comes to babies ☺️
Whangarei is great for those who prefer their winters mild. I lived there as a child.
Must’ve been great to grow up here 🤗 we’re excited to experience our first NZ winter 😊
I do quite a few walking trails out east Auckland way in Howick. It’s good to get away from the rush sometimes
Ooh thanks, we’ll have to check it out one day 🤗
I'm Kiwi and still exploring New Zealand when I can, I've traveled to most places but the south island I just out of this world.
Honestly can’t wait to one day go to the South Island 🤗🤗
I've been watching you both for ages...and love you both! Just on the mosquitoes and sandflies...try this remedy - it Really works...mix equal parts of Dettol and baby oil together. Shake well before each application. Massage into skin. You will see sans flies and mosquitoes circle the applicated areas and not land on your skin. Apply often and as needed. You will smell like a surgical room but you won't get bitten by insects. The Dettol deters insects and the baby oil adheres the Dettol to your skin.
Hi honey, thanks so much 🙏 really appreciate it 😊
From Cape Town....Been here since 2012 (year 11 for me so i can say I've acclimatised), NZ on a bad day is still better than a good day in SA.
Look...even now i miss things from SA all the time (weather....braai twice a week for no reason etc) but there is no way i could ever go back. Yes, housing is expensive...food too thanks to our geolocation....but I havent locked my house in years (even when going out for the night).
Welcome to the next chapter in your lives. Great to have you here!!
Craig - keep encouraging Chantz to stay active. Chantz u r stunning, and both of you are beautiful young people. I know I keep raving on about "normal summers" up there, but this would have to be close to the worst ever.
Hi Greg, thanks so much for this, definitely keeping more active now that it’s not raining as much😅 the last few weeks have been so nice and gave us a taste of how nice summer would be if there’s no rain and cyclones 🙈😅
Lyk Awesome
You can walk all the way from Tiki down to town through the interconnecting tracks from the falls through Reed Memorial Park cross the road then into Mair Park.
Sounds awesome, thanks for the tip :)
Hi there, my wife and I are about to accept an offer to move to NZ after I was headhunted on Linkedin. We have been watching your videos and LOVE what you guys are doing, so helpful, so real....would love to contact you by email. Carry on loving your new life and we wish you heaps of good luck, amazing times and a blessed future🤗
That’s awesome, congratulations! Happy to hear that our videos are helpful. You’re welcome to pop us an email 😊
Enjoyed your video.
Great to hear that you’re enjoying our great country.
On the safety front, note that we don’t really have dangerous creatures… no snakes, lions, crocodiles, bears, hippos, buffalo, wolves…
There is 1(?) spider that bites, mosquitoes/sand-flies and there are some wild pigs but they are seldom seen.
Enjoy!
Nau mai haere mai, interested in what you think of the Tui, they sing from dawn to dusk. Travel safely
As I was watching your videos exploring "wow" was what came to mind to me too! But what!? Those tomatoes are wayyyyy too expensive. Groceries are expensive here but I wouldn't say that bad. Loved the bloopers lol 🤣
Yeah, it’s steep…apparently it’s the highest food increase since the 80s 🙈😳
i love mair park and the walking tracks! ross track dundas road access and back down dobbie track. i often jump over that fence they have put up at the bridge there. the track is very safe except for one bridge that was washed out during the cyclone but very crossable if you wish to, access from whareora road takes u up the track if u prefer that option but i always sneak over that metal fence they errected. worth the effort hha
Haha...we saw a few people jump the fence while we were filming our video 😅
@@BeingBedingfield dundas road entrance has a neat waterfall if you havnt been that track
Goodstuff ….🙌🏼
Thanks 🙌
I was listening to this video from the other room and heard you say Mair Park.
Although I live in Canada, now,. I used to work right by Mair Park. When I heard you say that, I exclaimed, "Does she live in Whangārei??"
You Do! Well, I have to sit down and _watch_ your video, now.
Haha, no way!! Glad we could bring a bit of Whangarei to your screen 😅
Next time you're in the Auckland CBD check the Elliot Stables Food Hall. It's an upmarket food hall. Spanish, Japanese, Latin American, Indian, American Cajon, French, German, Chinese and burgers.
Sounds right up our alley 🤗 thanks so much for the suggestion 🙏😊
Er, bit out of date. COVID coupled with an a-hole landlord has decimated Elliot Stables. There are plans afoot to turn it around though...
DO NOT FEED THE DUCKS BREAD. Feed them frozen peas
Welcome you guys don't worry about the sad sacks and their rubbish comments about your video these always those who just can't help themselves, you enjoy whatever you're doing and do it with a smile Cheers born and bred Kiwi here, GLAD you came,
Give the growers market a try for much cheaper and fresher produce 😄
Thanks for the tip :)
I've lived my whole life here, but the road to Milford Sound, in particular exiting the tunnel, is the most mindblowing thing I've ever seen. A must.
Awww…we can’t wait!!! We’ll have to start planning a trip to the south soon. Milford Sound is at the top of our NZ bucket list 🤗
6:35 lol ... too right regarding "obviously a few rebels in the world" we have our share here in NZ, especially in Auckland.
My partner and I are planning to immigrate to New Zealand, so far your video's have been really helpful but I would like to ask if possible how expensive was it to start from scratch as that's what we are planning in doing.
If you've got space at home, tomatoes are easy to grow, but usually prices fluctuate with the seasonality of fruit and veg. Look out for roadside stalls, you can often pick up cheap fruit and veg when people have excess in their gardens...speaking as a South Islander, I assume it's the same up there.
We’re definitely looking into growing some tomatoes at home 😬
yeah...things in New Zealand have got very expensive...never used to be...even though we are miles from everyone else things here were never expensive years back so am not sure that's the reason besides, tomatoes are grown locally...tis a shame, but welcome to our shores anyway...welcome home , ... nau mai ki te kainga
Much appreciated, thanks for the welcome 🤗 so far we’re really loving it here 😁
@@BeingBedingfield thats cool....all the best from me and our 'All Blacks' 😅
Hi, I am happy that you are enjoying Whangarei. I am a Local myself. Have you been to the Quary Art center up from the Burger King?
Hi, thanks so much, we really like getting some hot tips from locals 🙏 we’ll definitely add it to our list 👍🙏
@@BeingBedingfield Let me know when I will shout the coffee.
So beautiful.. Time to grow your own tomatoes 😜
Haha, we keep saying we're going to start growing our own tomatoes 😅
Go to the. Sunday Market for fruit and veg
👍
you should still make sure everything is secure.. nz is safe but home burglaries do happend. also car burglaries.
1:30 Just like to note for you two young newcomers, that it's _The_ North Island, and _The_ South Island. Not just North Island and South Island. You'll hear the locals refer to them this way often enough, over time.
You guys are still on the North island ? Just wait until you see the south Island and then the WOW moment will be every 2 seconds..LOL. Glad you loving it though, been there a few times and still impressed everytime :)
Yes, we're living in Whangarei :) I can imagine...we can't wait to do some trips down to the south!
@@BeingBedingfield let me know if you need any tips when u do 👍👍
Adopt a kiwi dog not a little one they are eusless there company i s amazing especially during all your activities give it a try they are loyal an observant to care over you 🐕🐕🐕🐕🐕🐕🐕
Wait until you get to the South Island - it's "wow" all the time...
Seriously can't wait...we'll have to start making plans soon hehe
Beaches are clean and unspoilt as the population is small and no sugar cane farmers inland like in KZN.
However, when i snorkeled there (both islands) i saw very little life. Only 2cm shrimps and what looked grey like a Black Tail fish. I was surprised how lifeless the underwater was.
Across the chanel in Australia, there was plenty sea life like Cape Vidal and KZN North Coast.
Sand flies were a big issue around Bay Of Islands beaches, but not in other places.
Nice to backpack through though. For 2 months.
Sounds like you had an amazing trip! We can't wait to see the rest of NZ. I think snorkelling at the surrounding small islands might be better, as a lot of those areas are protected...like Poor Knights Island off the coast of Tutukaka. We actually saw 2 stingrays yesterday while supping in Matapouri Bay :)
Where was your favourite spot in NZ?
You snorkeled in all the wrong places mate.
Did you guys get residency?
Yes, we got it in December 😊
6 months tooooo long when would you like to come back to South Africa
Hi Kitty, thanks so much for all your comments 💕 we’re in NZ for the long run 😅
Breads the worst thing for them. Try veggies
👍
I have enjoyed a few of your posts , keep up the good work. Also don`t feed the ducks white bread it interferes with their reproductive system, I don`t know about other types of bread.
Thanks so much 🙂aw, it was just a way of speaking, we were never going to feed them anything 😅
Even better news, ardern is going, I might move there now#justsaying
its been 6 months already ?? huh lol
I know! How is time going so fast 🙈😅
Not a good idea to feed bread to birds and the like. It's poor nutritional value to them = deficiency and pre-desposition to disease and deformation
👍
Tell me about the crime wave. Cars houses being broken into daily and police ignore it
Sorry, we haven't heard about that in our area.
Don't know where youre from you must come from paradise,of course police have their moment's with plonkers being plonkers,so who doesn't,you must have a sad life if your comment is to dess their video,
Say how beautiful it is if you take a walk through some heavy gang presence neighbourhoods....or walk Auckland City at night....😂😂
🙈
please do not feed the ducks bread ,, google what they like to eat ,,,, bread is definitely not on a ducks menu,,,on a lighter side ,,, I love your vids ,,, as a Kiwi / Maori it fills my heart with joy to hear your stories ,,, nga mihi nui ki a korua (greeting to yous )
Thanks so much for watching 🤗 we’re so grateful to be here in NZ 😊
Your going to be really Wow, Wow, Wowed” when you get to the South Island.👍
Seriously can't wait!!
