Thank you! Notes for myself and anyone else who might see this: • can use fresh or frozen shrimp: put in pot and cover with cold water • put heat on high and (optional) add spices and flavors, including possibly lemon juice or a lemon slice • STOP heat right before water gets to rolling boil; want shrimp to be a brilliant pink all the way through • plunge shrimp into ice water OR if don't have enough ice, run under cold water (goal is just to stop the cooking process. In video, ran under cold water then poured into ice water) Basically: add shrimp, water, and flavoring to pot; stop heating right before rolling boil; then put into ice water.
This is just amazing. It takes all the timing and guesswork out of simmering shrimp and, best of all, it automatically compensates for shrimp size, variety and degree of frozenness. This is so important since shrimp have a very small window of cooking perfection. I wish I knew about this 40 years ago. Thanks so much for posting this.
Your focus on only necessary information was perfect. So many people basically give a lecture on shrimp, etc. and in the process, the main points are missed. Great job!
Whoever that Nantucket Island chef is deserves a tight hug ... or maybe just a firm handshake. I'm 63 and have been over-boiling shrimp my whole life. Thank you for setting me straight!!
That was just perfect, you solved the mystery of ages 👍, so simply put and so accurate. Obviously I'm commenting immediately after my very first successful juicy shrimp cocktail. Thanks a million.
Thank you, shrimp is my all time favorite food, but I'm too scared to attempt to cook it out of fear I'll ruin perfectly good shrimp. But you make it look simple and easy! Time to try it out!!!
I was boiling the water then I would put the shrimp into the hot water boy was I making my shrimp the wrong way all these years, thank you for sharing this with us.
you are amazing i often get told you should never cook prawns from frozen, this time i got caught out and forgot to take them out the freezer :( this worked perfect and they tasted better than i have ever done them before :) many thanks.
So happy I found this method. I used to cook shrimp with the shells on and was very happy with my method. I wanted to try fresh caught peeled and deveined shrimp with the tails on and did not have a tried-and-true method. I now do. This method is fool proof. The shrimp are perfect every time. Thank you Cleaver Cooking............how about a fool proof method for steaks on the gas grill.
can't wait to try this! I would put the pepper, ground, into tea bag....whole pepper corns could barely do their job ,,,plus it's a waste of pepper corns......
My favorite see food, is everything, ha ha. Seriously, I really enjoy a good shrimp, but I always mess it up. I will definitely try this method this coming Friday. Thanks for uploading this vid.
My family cooked shrimp all my life, from Louisiana, and it was so delicious!!…but, they forgot to teach me how. This seems to be closest way I remember watching, and they used Zatarans shrimp boil in the water- can’t wait to try- Yours’ is the closet “how to” I could find- thanks, subscribed!!
You made cooking shrimp very easy! Other recipes have shown similar methods but your explanation will really stick in my brain! Thanks. Did you make the cocktail sauce too?
I will never buy pre-cooked shrimp again this was so easy and they are truly the best juiciest shrimp I have ever had. Are used old bay spice in the boil a gulf coast favorite.
It won't stop the cooking process quite as fast as an ice bath but you could. I would spread the shrimp flat on a sheet pan if placing in the freezer so it cools down more quickly
I'm cooking this ahead of time in the morning to serve in the afternoon, Once I cool down the cooked shrimp, can I keep it in the refrigerator drained until I'm ready to serve?

Do you put salt in the water?
Very nice! Only thing missing is some spiciness. I'll take this and add some spicy powders. Never liked that cocktail sauce.
Awesome.
Thank you! first time cooking shrimp and it was perfect. Alternatively putting it in a cold bath. could you just place in a freezer?
It won't stop the cooking process quite as fast as an ice bath but you could. I would spread the shrimp flat on a sheet pan if placing in the freezer so it cools down more quickly

My best dinner is shrimp with beer!
Is the frozen shrimp cleaned from its digestive tracts and everything? I'm a bit new to this 😅
It depends what the label says, but I recommend you rechecking
@@Hamox thanks^_^
Look for "peeled and deveined" and you're good to go
Made it simple thanks...same rule with the shell on ?
Thank you gonna try
Timing for this recipe to boil properly?
thanx dawg
Did your shrimp come without the shell on or did you take it off after you cooked them?
Tbh, I don't remember. Either way works.
