I have the utmost respect for Dustin. To think that not only is he one of the very few Attitude Era wrestlers still active, but that he was able to be given a gimmick that he originally hated and turn it into one of the best and most popular in wrestling speaks to his ability as a performer.
The entire family does not because 2 of the 3 made it long before they came to the shitty wwf now the wwe.. and vince really screws over 98% of ppl that did not grow up wwf/wwe see Dusty in fucking poka dots........
I agree I had seen this one annoying interviewer who had legends speaking but he cut them off. Even the listeners had bad things to say about his interviewing skills.
Goldie had a few solid Wrestlemania moments, actually. He and Luna had a damn good mixed tag with Sable and Marc Mero at XIV. I really liked the four corners IC title match at XV. And his big return at Wrestlemania XVIII was pretty awesome, too, even though the match was just a silly little Hardcore Title thing.
That mixed tag is one of the most underrated WrestleMania matches of all time, especially from a storytelling/psychology standpoint. The whole story of Sable breaking away from Mero and Mero enlisting Goldust to humiliate her and Luna despising her for being everything she wasn't and then the way they worked the match with Mero and Goldust anchoring while teasing Sable getting her hands on Luna until she finally did and the place came UNGLUED.
Same story, im 41 now and am rewatching from 93 on ward and im in to 99 right now and now, I really get why Golddust was awesome, and I really miss his presence
Love the fact the Dustin believes in the realism of kayfabe. He’s exactly right of that’s a major element of what’s missing from the industry currently!
Yep and Dustin is old school. Dude was still relevant into the 2010s but goes all the way back to the late 80s. Plus being the fruit of the looms of Dusty probably helps keep that old school feeling.
God this was one of the most greatest interviews I’ve ever seen because it came from the heart- they just let him talk and get it out. You can tell his time with Roddy Piper meant soooo much to him- he was tearing up. He’s a good guy and sooooo underrated. This is one of those interviews that stands alone! Completely awesome! 😌🙏🏼
Goldust is one of my all time favorite wrestlers. He took a gimmick, that no one else could handle, and turned into such a legendary character, that stood the test of time. I'm so glad Dustin's involved in AEW now, he seems so happy 😊❤
For those people who said that Dustin Rhodes was a Hall of Famer in one of the greatest jobbers in the history of wrestling are 100% correct. Dustin did stuff that no other wrestler was willing to do because it may embarrass or humiliate them.
Dustin should get all the credit in the world for making that Goldust gimmick into, well, gold. So risky, especially for that time, and he just made it work. Hope to see him in the HOF soon.
I love the fact that Dustin Runnels is a decent human being. When you listen to him talk, he comes across as genuine and he still, despite everything, has a love for the business and an appreciation for the work he put in. So many guys come off as bitter and/or denigrate the business. Not Dustin. He seems to be able to completely separate business from real life (while understanding the importance of kayfabe). He's completely 180 degrees from the character he portrayed. A really great guy and an awesome Entertainer.
The other difference that he's hinted at is that they were very trained stunt workers doing it as side gig. Roddy Piper like he said also did stunt work. Other than his shoots being stuck in a 80's time loops. Taker and Hogan also worked in stunts and B movies a ton as well. Vince Senior and Jr/McMan and Patt paterson had a zero drama policy as well as a (now ) well publiced respect your fellow worker policy. So sure him and piper probably had a blast. lol you should hear what he said when they re-invented him "what's androgodonous" lol while he he was in victoria secrete getting fitted...lol--um you flew out from a stunt gig in georgia to SoCall to practice with Hogan and get in shape to cosplay...and are just now asking that? OO
Also yeah Dwayne Johnsons whole family are stunt and sports personalities. Compare that to Punk who was a damn good floater but had a habbit and went off the crazy train rails.
Dustin must have so many amazing stories and insights from his time between the ropes. He comes across so well, that he should think about a career as a professional speaker. A great interview
I really hope that WWE can get over themselves enough to induct Goldust into the Hall of Fame where he belongs. Dustin is the very definition of a professional professional wrestler. He's given so much yet received so little in return.
As a kid, Goldust was scary spooky character. With this one character, he embodied the dark secret reality superstitious controversies of Hollywood, California.
I remember watching it live when I was 13 years old. I remember thinking, "damn, those punches seem more realistic than usual" Such a brutal match. Those two put on a hell of a show.
I met gold dust back in 96 in san Diego. I went backstage and he was AWESOME. Took time out of his day to sign autographs and take pictures for me and my brother. It was an Amazing experience for me. Since that day he has been one of my favorite wrestlers of all time. Real genuine guy thanks for the memories
I remember watching that event live on PPV, I would have been 11 years old. And this match is a match that I never forgot. It was very entertaining and you could just tell that it was different. We all believed that Roddy absolutely HATED Goldust and really really wanted to hurt him. I got goose bumps just hearing him tell this story. Awesome moment.
He's a valuable asset to AEW. Hopefully he can teach some of them what he knows. He's spot on what he says about making people believe what's happening in the ring is real.
I remember this match I’m 36 now and it’s by far one of the best segments ever it looked so real, I love goldust true legend and so underrated I got to watch him in his prime
I remember watching it live on PPV and noticing something was off with Piper’s arm when they come back to the live in-arena segment of the match. Guess that explains it. Good storytelling by Dustin.
I watched that match back so many times back then. They made that look legit as hell. I had alot of respect for Goldust after that. Dude took alot of punishment to make that look great.

Dustin is a hall of famer in my book. A champion multiple times in WWE and WCW. He is great as the Natural or Goldust. A great worker and smooth in the ring.
One of the best WrestleMania stories ever told by one of wrestling's greatest storytellers. Hats off to the interviewer for not interrupting the wrestler like so many of the bad ones do.
Dustin is by far one of my all time favorites just a superb worker and wrestler and highly underrated but damn sure respected by everyone. A legend for sure!
Knowing his gimmick and how creative he's always been in and out of the ring, it doesn't surprise me how thoughtful, well spoken and intelligent he is.
Great video clip - I love hearing about the "behind-the-scenes" happenings from years ago, although I do miss old-school kayfabe today. Yes, Dustin "Goldust" Rhodes was a great star and wrestler, and one who definitely has been underrated. Yet I gotta think this match - and the in-ring action - might have helped sow a seed for the Attitude Era.
I remember that match. I was at the arena when they were showing it. As they were arriving to the arena, I got out of my seat, ran up the steps, and looked through the window and that's where I saw them. That was greatest match I ever saw in my life. I hope the wwe does the match like that next year, wrestlemania 37.

Yeah, he's a great story teller. That was a great, detailed story about two of my absolute all time favorites; Roddy and Goldust!
Imagine the stuff he hasn't told us
Indeed, Dustin is a goddamn good talker.
Jim Cornette shoots are great too. I'd rather listen to him or Dustin shoot all day vs watching the actual show lmfao
