I'm a guy with a Merc car, supporting redbull, grown as tifosi. I've seen it all in the last 20 years, from haikinen to verstappen. One of the advantages of this sport is that there'll always be someone better, and some team doing things better. This is the natural progression of this sport. One of the things that i realize in the toxic fans is that they do tend to live their fantasies throught the parasocial relationships (how do they manage parasocial relationsips? simple, they think THEY drive the car.) like dude, you are not a f1 driver, and you will probably won't be. chill. i do support redbull, but i commend when a Ferrari or Merc driver when they do well because it's a good show off their skill. we need to not internalize the drivers. Lewis really does not care about you, Max doesn't know you, Charles may be sad but at the end he is driving for his dream team and giving his best, living a great life. One of the best ways of treating the toxic fans is not giving them ground to speak, or attention to fill their ego.
And YT too , new comments are always full of people saying the most heinous shit about specific drivers because of their race (not talking about the track kind)
What has been extremely annoying to me in recent years is that this booing has always existed. But people are pretending that this is something completely new, something that has only existed since Mercedes dominated. The British media in particular make a big fuss about it every time. But this phenomenon has always existed with every dominance. Seb was the victim before Lewis, Michael before him.
As a football fan: I can attest to you that F1 is way more fanatic and toxic than football. Even online, but especially at the stadiums. Dont make Football look bad for something they have nothing to do with. Football hasnt even close to the same atmosphere as F1 has recently. Ill go drink a beer with fans of our historical rivals, a story 120 years in the making. TeamLH and the OrangeArmy are way, way, way worse. They would never dare.
Its the Brits, look what they have done at England games for the World Cup, English sport fans can be some of the most nice, but they also can be the worst imaginable
*Americanisation* is the correct term. The people who push hate on Twitter are inspired by the fandoms of Nicky Minaj, Cardi B, BTS etc where they will do anything possible to defend who they support. Its toxic teenagers causing havoc on the platform and no one wants to have a conversation about how badly behaved they are...
@@fredyicey you cant really just say brits like its all of us. As someone from the uk i can tell you the people that stormed the stadium etc at the world cup will not be the kind of people to watch f1 let alone comment about it on twitter. Of course there is a section of them that are like that but there is a portion of all countries populations that are like that you cant just single out the uk
As a Seb fan I will soon be homeless in term of support but I will never be totally neutral... it's almost impossible. I'm a driver supporter rather than a team one. But yeah... I'll find a way.
Ah well, Max's mom being called words and a whole 300000 crowd booing him like a bunch of juveniles just for winning and Max fans made to remove their clothes is somehow not dark enough for the media to mention.
I think it would have been better to show the stories of death threats against Latifi Masi and Vips. I think this is the worst thing that has happened in F1 due to fans...
While I agree with your intent, and he should not have received death threats, saying that this video should focus more on Juri Vips (who knowingly said something racist, and is still a race driver) and less on the racism/other aspects that you (I'm not going to assume who you support, it's not relevant) don't 'agree' with is just missing the point of this video. when you say 'it should focus more on this' you really are saying 'this matters more to me, because of my values' and that's the whole point of this infighting and why it's so toxic.
@@andrewmurray4167 I just think the video would have been more important as things as death threats are a serious concern, a way bigger concern then most issues at play in this video. You might not agree with what Vips said, but that doesn't change the fact that you should send him death threats. Just the same with Masi and Latifi who sustained serious mental damage due to this behaviour. It shows how this toxicity affects real people, making the video way more powerfull than it is now.

I'm just trying to figure out how you would change this video? would you remove the stuff about copse corner? or what else would you remove? b/c that's what you imply in your first comment.
@@andrewmurray4167 i wouldnt change stuff about copse. I don't agree with him saying the N word, but I dont care everyone has said it at some point, stop with this witchhunt. He got his punishment. The post-Bernie owners of F1 have made moves, all for the bottom line, that have somewhat destabilized the sport. Allowing Netflix access has opened the door to the lowest common denominator of fans, all with the goal of filling seats and a bigger fan base for their sponsors. These aren’t Motorsport fans with a knowledge or history of racing, they’re Rugby fans on holiday. I doubt they’re even aware that the Constructors get the money, the car is the sport, and drivers are itinerant. I’ve been a Vettel fan since BMW (I still am), but a Jaguar/Red Bull/Toro Rosso fan first (sorry Enzo, RIP). Honestly, it just requires less intelligence to be a driver drama only fan than a Constructor fan. F1 has lowered the bar to NASCAR standards by opening the door for hooligans. I don’t see it improving.
Been an F1 fan since my first visit to a race in Zandvoort in 1975. I had the privilige to see Lauda, Senna, Schumacher, up close and personal. I Used to call the F1 fan base the best fan base in the world. Been to many races where I would sit next to fans of rival teams. Enjoying the race, sharing a beer and some snacks, having a laugh and sure... some friendly banter. I had vacations in places in Italy and France and the UK purely because I met people from those places at the track and became friends. The last 4 or 5 years I haven't gone anymre and not justt because it will cost you and arm and a leg and your first born. I stpped going when the "jungle sounds" began when Lewis drove by, when being a fan of certain drivers immidiatly gave you the "racist" label, And I am sure it s not Netflix that brought the negative people. Many of the people I see being exrtemely toxic online are people I did share that beer with 10 years ago. I lost some F1 friends simply becauseof the team I support. All because you are able to post the most toxic and vile comments and nobody knows who is behind the name. It is not Netflix that ruined the fandom, it is Twitter, it is facebook, it is the very biased commentary of the pundits (regardless if you are in the UK, the Netherlands, Italy or wherever they may have drivers of their own nationality) Over the years I have been a fan of said Lauda and Senna. I supprted Schumi, Vettel, Hamilton and now Max. I supported them because I see all of them as icons in the sport. The best of the best. THE reason why you go to a track or turn on the television. But going to a track is no fun anymore if you hear monkey sounds the second Hamilton passes, if you see people flipping off a driver because he wears the wrong color or when people cheer when someone hits the wall. I want the old fandom back, can we have that again please??
@@mateorios1636 no, I mean 1975, there wasn't even a race in Zandvoort in 1995. Last race there was 1985 (last race that Lauda won in his career) until it came back in 2021
@@MrSilverfish12 I watch Indy :) But going there would cost me as much as a F1 race. Travel from the Netherlands to the US ain't cheap, at least not for me. Maybe one day I have enough to visit, and if I can pack an Indy race into the mix I sure won't hesitate to do so.
Yes it is. It was also the first time Brabham won the championship under the leadership of Bernie Ecclestone. They won again in 1983, using the BMW engine which was the first turbo powered car to win the title. While this was going on, Bernie was behind the scenes making Formula One from an amateur's sport into a multi million pound global business through sponsorship deals and television rights.
The last thing we need is something like what happened to the fans of the two football teams in an Indonesian football match where over 100+ people died all because 1 one of the teams lost
That and Mexico, this past spring or summer (can't remember). Stadium riot, that was allowed by stadium security btw, killed about 35+ fans all because they were fans of the other team. Video showed people beating already unconscious fans and stripping then of their merch. Fucking disgusting
The fanbase shifts as F1 gets more popular because of the tense, once-in-a-lifetime season last year. These 'fans' were not suddenly created but already existed supporting football clubs. You cannot stop it, just look at other sports. The 'normal' fans are still there, but are simply overshadowed by a minority making them look bad as well which is not the case.
@@gandalf_thegrey wanna have a word with the clowns calling themselves hungarian fans that harassed every german fan possible with homophobic slurs at last year's EURO match?
You were so right about that George Russell video. You should see the comments in the recent Instagram posts about George. There has not been much abuse yet which is good, but it may go to that level soon if he keeps going as he has been lately.
Back in Brazil 2008 Toyota staff had to leave Interlagos without wearing their team's colours because there was a genuine safety concern for them because of what happened on the final lap. Timo Glock got loads of death threats and Felipe Massa himself was worried about the team's safety and even sent his brother to the Toyota garage to advise them to disguise themselves before leaving the track
Tbh it's about moderation like you said. I am a McLaren fan and shout a bit at Alpine and get annoyed at them in races, but I respect Ocon, Alonso, and the team. I do not go online and throw abuse at them. You can have a fun bit of anger at team but don't dm them death threats, stay kind.
@@xquahd Ocon's a nice guy. And the main thing is he respects and looks up to Fernando. He even criticized the penalty Fernando got at COTA, but even then he just got abuse
I started watching F1 in 2008 and it was horribly toxic then. Of course the rise of social media platforms that reward and encourage tribalist, divisive, hateful content has only made things worse.
One of the most important things to remember is this: These 20 people risk their lives for our entertainment. If you keep that in mind, you’ll have a bit more respect for the guys that drive these cars at insane levels of speed.
Our entertainment is secondary to what they do and why they do it. They're there to race because that's what they do. I've raced and putting on a show for the fans is an afterthought. When the green flag drops there is only racing. When the checkered flag drops, we wave to the fans. In interviews, we thank them for coming out. It's boilerplate. I came here to race.
@@mikemelina7395 secondary to the drivers but not to the millions of people watching it on TV, or the thousands of people in the grandstands at races. For them it’s entertainment, and the drivers are entertaining them.
I would like to say that though I’ve seen this online, I’m lucky to have never experienced this in person. Me and my dad went to silverstone this year, and are going next year as well. On the Saturday we managed to find seats in Becketts and were there to watch the qualifying. My dad is a massive Hamilton fan and there were two Dutch Max fans that sat next to us and though they supported two drivers who were rivals last year, we had a good chat with them and there was no conflict at all. I guess what I’m trying to say is that this hate comes from the vocal minority, the majority of people are actually civilised and will have a good chat with you, no matter who they support. This vocal minority shouldn’t even be classed as fans of the sport, they just bring hate.
Totally, only reason I hate on Lewis is because he started the whole conspiracies with calling “manipulation” in Abu Dhabi. Even when a thorough investigation concluded human error he never apologised. Acts like that attracts hatred. I do it knowingly and have very good, well thought through, objective, fair, unbiassed arguments for it. But it’s a reaction, Lewis initiated it himself. But you’re right, Lewis is a vocal minority on the grid. Have no issues with George or any other drivers. Love them all except for Lewis. And many with me, you’ll see, when he retires all problems suddenly disappear. If Max stains a championship like Lewis did I’ll despise him all the same. The hatred from Lewis towards Rosberg, that’s the source right there. It’s how Lewis behaves outside of his Facebook oneliners and media performances that attracts hate and a counter reaction. Rosberg won, toxic environment. Next year Lewis won and all was good. Max wins, instantly back to toxicity. No coincidence.
@@kristianharalambiev7685 I understood very well, I clearly see that Lewis is a vocal minority in F1 and agree with Nathan F1 that he shouldn't be taken too seriously or have to big an influence on F1. Better to focus on the new generation, Norris, Ricciardo, Ocon etc.
I was on F1 twitter for a time before leaving earlier in 2023/late in 2022. And I don't regret it. My time on it wasn't too bad, but the amount of stuff I saw, the amount of toxicity on it was horrible to see. Debates and arguments are normal and are bound to happen but some of the insults thrown are horrible. F1's community is too toxic. We still talk about copse 2021, Monza 2021, Abu Dhabi 2021. We need to move on. It's a shame how toxic it has gotten and that's why I've left Twitter amongst other reasons. It just needs to stop. It's happening way too often, they're human beings. You can criticise them, but insulting them is not on. That's why I try to send compliments and love to them via greeting cards to the factories, just to cheer them up. Don't abuse celebrities. Criticise them but don't take it too far.
Ive been an f1 fan for a while, this increase of fans is a very double edged sword. For one i have more people to talk about something im passionate about with, but on the other hand i witness such amounts of bullshit its honestly rediculous
in 2008 spain we had fans wearing black face, mocking hamilton. Its beyond embarrasing that 15years later we have similar situations going on. We've heard f1 officials talking about max being the great white hope(not a dig towards max),imagine a whole f1 official saying that, what of the fans. IMO we need all the drivers to specifally call out their fans whenever such incidents occur and not be vague with their comments.
Another problem is that the British media only mentions it when it‘s Red Bull fans. And they‘re the official broadcast. Haven‘t seen them criticizing the fans at Silverstone or Monza
Thought I mentioned it earlier on the other day in a comment, but it's a recent thing. Back in the 90s at the height of Schumi vs the world, when he broke his leg at Silverstone in 1999, Murray called out the fans who were cheering and applauding saying it was disgusting that they were doing that, without knowing if Schumi had survived his brakes failing and crashing hard at Stowe. Makes me wonder why Sky won't call out things like that if ITV could/did, and the BBC could/did.
I still can't believe people still mad and salty after the Copse incident in 2021 like come on bruh... Just grow up and move on. It's already happened, It's already been resolved, there's no need to come back for another useless debate Btw I like your videos so far, I've been following you and watch your video even though I rarely comments here but I only can say Keep up for the good work
Criticism is part of the job. I've criticized him before because he has had a very bad season. That's different to abuse and insults. I don't think Danny Ric has been abused, or just a few people here and there.
@@lord.liberty Well... not trying to be too biased but when there is sufficient evidence to prove that you don't give a shit bout a driver you spent 15mil on criticism is deserved. Norris though doesn't deserve criticism, and Piastri doesn't have any, at least not from normal fans
Criticism is perfectly normal and okay. I think it's fine to criticise Ricc for not being able to adapt to the car and not being able to replicate what he did at Renault. Does that mean he deserves to be called washed and finished and booed out of his seat? No, that's just plain abuse
George Russell getting called snake and traitor and Latifi getting death threats and not getting any news about it is dangerous too as they don't have support.
Don't get me wrong I try very hard to fanboy over Danny Ric and I dislike certain drivers but I would never. ever. send death threats to a driver because of that. Disgusting.
This seems to have happened since DTS, and Netflix kicking up drama and a flood of new fans coming in. I miss when you could have a civil debate about drivers. without it being toxic. Not blaming new fans, but the drama being kicked off by Netflix seems to transfer over to people's comments.
Don’t think it’s got anything to do with Netflix. It’s just they way the world is right now with the use of social media. F1 isn’t the only sport or community with this problem
@@luttren well, dts is a little bit influencing ppls opinions abt drivers and I’m not calling these people stupid but they are taking a drama series as factual points, take Norris for example, they portray him as unsympathetic to Daniel when in reality he is overly sympathetic to Daniel but take it as you want idc if you disagree or agree with my statement soooo
Tbh im a new f1 fan (unfortunaly) but i hate how its going atm, booing drivers is just fucking stupid and retarted. You know they risk their lives for our entertainment and we need to keep that in mind no matter what type of fan u are.
Don’t blame the new fans. I’m old enough to remember horrific abuse of Senna, of Schumacher and more. I remember Seb getting booed and hissed at, I remember Nico Rosberg being followed by a vicious British fanbase of Hamilton fans all throughout Europe in 2016…he’s spoken of what that did to his mental health and it was absolutely a factor in his retirement….none of what I’ve mentioned are from ‘new’ fans.
As a POC, I've stopped reading comments when there is a post about Lewis. Sadly, this is the current norm for social media as there is no accountability. They don't realise the consequences/effects those words have.
This is my first season, I was brought in by a friend and I instantly fell in love with it! My friend is a Red Bull fan but more so a Checo fan since he is from Mexico. I’ve always liked Red Bull as a drink, and especially after I watched all seasons of DTS, saw Max’s talent and became a big RB/Max fan. I also love Haas as I’m an American and I enjoy seeing my country represented. However, shamefully I’ve been one of those toxic fans online. Watching this changed my perspective, when it was said that your driver would probably be embarrassed if they knew how you acted. I wanna go to a GP and meet Max one day, but I know he’d be pissed if he knew that I’d been a dick online. I’ve literally seen every race since Bahrain, and I’ve watched all of last season, several big races races, Vettel era races, v10 era races, several big races from the last few years Sennas classic performances….I watch several hours of F1 content on RUclips every week. I’ve got enough knowledge to talk smack for only being a fan since this year. I know about stuff like Andrea Moda and where 107% quali rule came from…. No, I don’t care for Lewis or Merc at all. Not because of his race, not at all. I think it’s awesome that we have a black driver on the grid! I don’t wanna make this negative and go into specifics of why I don’t personally like him, but I respect his talent and the numbers don’t lie. I don’t see him as the greatest, but that’s my opinion. And just because it’s my opinion doesn’t mean I need to be an asshole online because of it! I think it’s easy for new fans to think it’s normal and get sucked in because almost every post has at least handful of people out looking for shit. I think that happened to me. Thanks for this video, and just leaving this comment to say, it did help to change my *perspective*😂 it’s fun to talk smack, but there’s a point when it crosses the line.
Lewis-Rosberg pretty much set it all up. Basically hooliganism in the paddock. The just didn’t smash each others heads in because that was an obvious no-go but otherwise the tone was set and that never changed. When Lewis won it stayed relatively quiet but the second he lost again the world of F1 was on fire once again. George beating Lewis next year will guarantee fireworks, I can’t wait!
People really can’t tell the difference of friendly banter and straight up abuse and genuinely think it’s okay to say some nasty shit, they think they can get away with it or even think they’re doing god’s work to fight for justice for their fav drivers. I can never get the point of bashing other drivers when they never look at the whole picture. F1 is not just black and white, there’re a lot of grey areas in between, saying one driver is shit doesn’t prove the other driver is right or better among all of them
Worst kind of fans, in my opinion, are the ones that cheer when rival driver crashes and DNF's. Just take a look at, for example, audience reactions when Hakkinen crashed in Monza in 1999 or when Vettel DNFed at Hockenheim in 2018. I think that's the most un-sportsman like behavior you can possibly see and I absolutely hate it when it happens.
I enjoy crashes but not because its a "rival driver" because it a) spices up the races, ending up in a safety car or VSC, and b) while it may be considered selfish, because my driver gets promoted up the grid? Idk
I'd argue 1999 Silverstone. Schumi literally breaking his leg. Fans cheering and applauding before they even knew he was alright. When the reserved Murray Walker called out the Silverstone crowd on their BS, well...
It seems to have got a lot worse in the past few years as the fanbase has got younger and more casual. The tribalism and actual hatred for other drivers and team is just ridiculous and childish. it should be normal to be able to objectively criticise your own driver/team and praise rivals where it's due lol.
Social media is destroying the sport. Having watched thru many eras, wouldn't you agree? Watcxh the US fanbase, that's how you're supposed to act at an F1 event. Cheers for everyone and just happy to go to the race. I'm a long-time fan of the sport who has had many favorite drivers and teams. It's time to call out the new fans and make them conform to the traditions of the sport. This isn't FIFA.
I'd say Skysports is the soul reason of producing hate towards particular popular drivers, they don't act like a sports channel which represent a sport globally, sometimes they lick certain driver's ass so much that it irritates other drivers fans and they become toxic towards the other driver and fana, sometimes they criticize a particular driver repeatedly for something while in similar situation for another driver they just simply ignores the topic, Skysports is the official broadcast partner of F1 so what they do has a global impact, rather than that the whole F1 media is biased towards a certain region and since the sports is expanding very fast and fans outside EU are increasing rapidly this will only increase
Sky Sports may have minor biases but they're not the ones spicing up this drama, its mostly all fair, in my opinion it sources from the existence of Twitter, aka the WONDERLAND where you can say whatever you want, think whatever you want and do whatever you want without being cancelled/attacked.

Fernando has mentioned in an interview that the new fans are barely knownledgable and are of the football type, which is really sad for the sport, which was once the crown jewel when it comes to having passionate and respectful fans. fake hypocrites that only know how to spread hate like as if its their full time job. Only babies will call drivers like "Lulu" "crashtappen" "crysell", and they should be weeded out at any costs. @paper plane some of them are, just like there have been black sheep within any driver's fanbase in all of F1 history. Try explaining that to uncle "OMG THOSE GODDAMN NEW FANS" though.
I stopped using Twitter because of this. There is no F1 related post you can go on anymore where there isn't someone abusing someone else. After a while it becomes really tiring to read that crap. Unfortunately RUclips isn't much better these days.
I've lost count of how many times I've been called a racist for criticising a particular driver. I was only criticising performance or behaviour that I didn't like. When you ask them how they come to call someone racist, the answer is: "You say something about performance/behaviour, but deep down you mean skin colour. You just don't want to say it. Boy, I wish I was making this up. It really has happened to me though....
Everyone knows you're not making it up, because it's happened to everyone else who's critical of him. No matter what you say, their answer is "you're a reeecist". Ever notice how mainstream people can call for the elimination of a whole race of people, and not just not be punished, but encouraged to say it? Don't believe me? Noel Ignatev spent his life talking about "ending whiteness" and abolishing the whiteness race. He is only one of MANY. Feel you're pain bro been there done that. Unfortunately its the world we live in right now where you cant say anything and be labeled a racist or whatever they feel like, but it also just works one way. I wish people would learn you cant love everyone but you don't need to hate those that doesn't agree with you and respect there point of view on it.
Here, you hit the nail on the head! I could not agree more! It really was very different before Covid with Socials from 2009-2019 for instance. For me it seems that COVID, & the DTS explotion of new fans, together with Ham vs Max last year, just has polarized the sport in a very strange way, no disrespect to the new fans, but there for sure has been a difference since, it kind of feel like the "perfect" storm, & Silverstone & Abu Dhabi really got out the worst, in the "Keyboard Warriors" as you called them. I was at Monza this year, & yeah i heard the stories, but did fortunatly did not experience them myself. I have followed this sport since 1995, & it has been a part of almost my entire life, & one of the best things have allways been the great respect between our fans, & as you say, you almost get excited seing other fans with F1 merch going around! It was so cool to sit in a grandstand and have a converstation with a Ferrari, Williams, McLaren, Jordan or a Minardi fan! Really do think we can be better then this, & get back to the respectful days. Really hope so! As they say be nice to each other! I love, a good discussion, but we must remember to allways be respectful.
Quite frankly. I am so tired of having arguments with random people who are sitting in the know it all pedestal...i gave up long ago .Now I make brief comments and that's it
The bigger the fanbase, the bigger the toxic behavior unfortunately. I've been a new F1 'fan' for a few months now and I just focus on watching the race weekends and sometimes videos on YT like these. I'll try to avoid joining social media F1-pages. Thanks for warning me.
I'm 45, from the US. Been watching F1 since around when Senna passed. Michael Schumacher will always be my favorite and my GOAT. But I like Max and Redbull. I'm about done supporting HAAS due to the treatment of Mick. Whether you think he is a good driver and deserves a seat or not is irrelevant. Hoping for Andretti to get involved in F1. I don't agree with everyone, you don't have to agree with me. If you don't like me for my views, opinions that's fine. But I'm truly sorry if you think I care. These are million dollar men driving for billion dollar teams, who in most cases will never know we exist. It's entertainment. Buy the merchandise, support your driver/team, go to the races if you can, enjoy the moment, live your best life. Social Media is the problem. You can type anything you want with impunity in most cases and anonymously if you want. The only reason people get away with acting like savages on the internet, is because they don't have any real consequences. I've noticed a handful of sites/yt channels are nothing more than echo chambers for dillusional fan bases. The toxicity is amazing. But I'm a truck driver andva biker, like I said, I'm really sorry if yiu think I git an extra fuck to spare on your feelings. Great video. Love the content. Keep up the good work.
It has really put a damper on my enjoyment of the sport tbh. Almost making me ashamed of being a F1 fan. I'm really new as well, but it just doesn't make sense to me how people can be so cruel towards each other.
I never understood why even more fans is good for F1. It only brings out more hateful keyboard warriors/bad behaviour at races. I also think F1 should stop bringing team radio to the public, because everybody is nitpicking on the things drivers say in the heat of the moment. Drivers also have the right to show their emotions.
I really despise people who blame either Max Verstappen fans or Drive to Survive fans for this. People have always gone over the line. My father still remembers the hatred between fans of Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost that makes the mutual dislike of Max and Lewis fans look like minor disappointment of each other. Shifting the blame to a certain driver or to DTS is a brilliant way to undermine any solution for the issue. People shouldn't be dicks towards any other fans, but generalizing a certain fanbase *will* make it worse.
My dad also says that people used to get heated over Senna vs Prost back in the day, mostly in bars or with friends, or inside their own home, so for him, this Max vs Lewis thing is not new. I think the problem is that F1 has reached the social media age with a lot of popularity, so instead of 10 people arguing over races in a bar, we have 10 thousand on twitter. I think since F1 has been with Liberty, it's become way more popular and that's why I don't think 2018 and previous years didn't have this level of toxicity
I started watching F1 last year, and yeah I admit I was a toxic fan. I hate myself for it, and I'll admit most of my hatred was directed towards Hamilton (nothing racist thankfully) but in the off time between seasons I saw the vitriol and toxicity coming from EVERYONE (not actually everyone but i mean fans of every team) and yes everyone is entitled to an opinion but I drew the line when I saw the fans attacking each other hurling shit and crossing the line into actual criminal behavior. I like to think that I've changed since then, if I do comment on something I'll will ONLY state my opinion in a respectable manner because I don't want to be part of the problem. Since taking a look in the mirror I've seen things that I was blind to due to my arrogance and stupidity, I recognize how great a driver Hamilton is and I find myself cheering him on when it looks like he can actually win the race (this season that is) Max is my favorite driver but just because Hamilton is part of a different team doesn't mean he doesn't deserve respect purely based on his skill. You don't have to like every driver on the grid just don't be a dick head about it.
Don’t beat yourself up too much, Hamilton has been a sniveling whiner since 2007. He also used to have a big problem telling the truth, but he’s matured a little. More of a reason to laugh at him than to attack him. (We’ve always got him being denied entry at Wimbledon for ignoring the dress code 😂). Peace
The new fans think they can cheer and defend a driver like a football team, it is literally a person who can make mistakes and that makes comments like that have a way stronger and personal meaning... I just wish we could enjoy racing in general without this bs 😮💨
I quit a sport that I competed at nationally and occasionally internationally - it was my life for 15+ years - because overnight I became hated by other competitors. I don't even know why. When I won a major event and there was dead silence in the podium ceremony when I was called rather than the typical polite applause, that was horrible. All I had ever wanted from the sport was to be respected as someone who was really good at it, and I never got that, but when I realised the entire community actively hated me, I never went back. Any attempt to complain about this in public forums was met with spiteful messages so I just left. Bitter? Sure. It was my life - now I don't have one anymore.
1:14 Italian fans were chanting about Max’ MOTHER?!?! 😱 you fking serious? OMG for as as much money as you need to get into an F1 race, it appears it cannot buy class. These aren’t entire teams who can absorb abuse hand in hand together….these are a living, breathing, individual PERSON with a damn soul that all the abuse falls on like a sharp point. I don’t like some drivers; for example I’m not a Lewis fan…but there is no way on earth I wouldn’t do anything other than politely clap…what is WRONG with some people? It’s a sport. You have something wrong with your own soul if you heap abuse on a single person like that and force them to go about as if they cannot hear it and it cannot bother them. For all the talk about mental health, there are some seriously disturbed fans out there.
The increasing footballization of F1 with its mindless tribalism. Awful. Thanks for the opportune reflection... a reminder that you are one of the best F1 creators on the platform.
Honestly i think that the media that cover F1 play a BIG part in the hate towards certain drivers. I checked out both English and Dutch shows and commentaries and i found that they really push their bias towards the viewers. From what i've seen the british side goes to the extreme with this (since last year) with completely ignoring facts and refusing to give credit where it's due whereas the Dutch only talk biased stuff in the post/pre race talks but in the end always give credit to each drivers performance. Honestly i'm getting that pure hate vibe from the entire british media. I'm not surprised that fans can't just enjoy the fandom when they get fed this bullshit.
I'm going to go out on a whim here and say that the n word wasn't the only shit they saw there, you can post videos on reddit and I'd wager there'd be some pretty awful videos and text (example: a person of color being whipped, beat to death, etc).
you might think that getting mentally ill from seeing "dome nasty words on a screen" is weak, but they are a massive public figure, say half of their comment section, or half their DMs are all people abusing them, sending them death threats, that will eventually start to impact their mental health, it paints this picture that they are useless and should die? what you have just said is that they should 'toughen up' and act like nothing happens when what can happen is people don't overreact because someone crashed into their favourite driver.
I'm as a Max fan don't even want to be Toxic but man these Race card playing viewers really get on my nerves if something doesn't go their way it's always a conspiracy behind that and most of em watch Formula 1 just to throw hate towards driver that dominated their "goat" it's irritated tf out of me
2021 was simultaneously the best year for F1 in terms of the racing and the title fight, and also the worst in terms of just how zealous and vitriolic new fans of the sport became, especially in regards to Hamilton v. Verstappen. It only takes a handful of loud zealots on social media to make an entire wing of the fandom look like a bunch of raving lunatics
When I went to the british gp this year I remember everyone booing yuki (we were at national pit straight and couldn't see the crash) because we all thought yuki hit george because he had no front wing, and every time max went by the people nearer copse were booing him.
@@Glegh That’s terrible about the booing…the jeering he received after Quali was so loud and seemed to include the entire crowd…it brought a lot of dishonor on the people doing it and also cemented stereotypes about British fans
Getting points for FP next year, 6 Sprint Races next year, general management of F1, not enough real tracks and the AWFUL fan base is making me fall out of love with F1.
Well, people didn’t let the 1997 (I think) incident go for a while. Even changed the championship. Lewis clearly didn’t have a problem with the collision, just like Michael. So, yeah. Is what it is though, that while season was just kind of a trash heap with a few classic drives
I am sorry to say this, but as a Belgian, I can confirm that the people from the Netherlands are horrible when they go on vacation on where they represent a sport. I was in Spa this year and it was really horrible. All foreigners complains about them. And it is true the Belgian Grand Prix is more like a Dutch Grand Prix now . Max fans are toxic
I watch F1 RUclipsrs and things like DTS, I’ve watched F1 for as long as I can remember but I firmly stay away from social media in general (other than RUclips). This is the reason why. If I ever manage to get to an F1 weekend I will not be sporting any F1 merchandise because it would make me feel unsafe. And it’s sad.
One of the things I noticed is that not only fans are getting more toxic and vile. But the discussion between F1-journalists, F1-content-creators (not this channel) and others have been a lot harsher as well. Fans also pick up on that. Those professionals should act more professional
I started watching F1 in 2010 at 6 years old and idolized Sebastian Vettel still to this day as well as Max Verstappen, this shit doesn’t just happen in F1 it happens in all sports, I equally love watching F1 and the NHL since I’m Canadian and I’m a Vancouver Canucks fan and if you guys know anything about my fellow fans, they are not true fans, I was at the home opening game and we had a 5 game losing streak on the road and when we loss a sixth in a row fans at the game started throwing their jerseys and also popcorn was thrown on the ice. I was just disgusted with the fans and back in 2011 in the Stanley cup final Game 7 we lost and fans absolutely rioted in the city.
I can’t believe it’s gotten so far out of hand…the age of this, the internet, has given people, and some with bad intent and commentary, the belief that their opinions are required for EVERYTHING. I’m no Max fan, but I respect what he has done and probably will do. It’s racing…it wouldn’t be exciting if we didn’t have the battles….but let’s leave them on the track….btw, you had me right up until I saw the Raiders hat…lol…Go Chiefs! ✌️
I’m a huge Max fan and no Lewis fan, but I agree 100%…these people yelling abuse are heaping dishonor upon Themselves, and no one other…and I didn’t know the abuse has now gone as far as attacking a driver’s MOTHER holy sht. And also, GO CHIEFS!! 🎉
I think a lot of this booing, racist comments etc are probably due to the fact that a lot of the newer fans of F1 (who are probably more likely to do these sorts of things) are people who were following another major sport (mostly football) and fan twitters of those sports have been bad from the start, so they probably do things which are considered "normal" in their community, but is absolutely abhorrent everywhere else.
As a fellow Aussie. I agree.. I was about the only one at my school that liked or even knew F1. When I did find someone it was like a great find and I instantly became friends. I think social media has played a large roll but also the rise of youtube commentators holding opinions as well.. I remember watching Seb get booed... More so after the Multi 21 thing and when on track incidents happened it was just what the FIA said went. Then we had opinions being televised now everyone can share their opinion on youtube. Which is great but also people don't agree so you have this pressure cooker in the comments. No hate on TommoF1 but his driver L thing is a good example. Danny Ric is always in that even though technically he drives great just really slow. And you look at his comments and viewers and they are all lando fans... which really really worries me that lando and danny ric get on well but the fans just kick danny ric when he is down. We should be glowing all drivers up even if they are struggling. But instead fans are calling for his head or calling him washed!
I could talk about this for hours.... But one really really good example of how fast this toxic culture is moving is George Russell. Last year Bottas was HATED! and there were soooo many calls for George to take his seat! Now people cant stand George. its super weird
Also not throwing shade on Tommo I love his work just using his channel as a point.. The driver L thing is cool but just interesting the viewers results
Do NOT conflate criticism with abuse. That’s often where the abuse starts…and the comments of yours that ‘most are Lando fans…’ is just you getting in your corner and lashing out at fans of another driver in their corner. It’s where it all starts. I’ve seen horrible behavior by fans of all drivers…and many Daniel fans are lashing out and causing abuse of his own due to his performance issues (he’s a great driver he’s just slow…well YEAH that’s the point!!) There’s nothing wrong with Tommo’s commentary….if we follow your logic down the trail, all criticism would be banished speech because someone somewhere won’t like it and will disagree. That’s a hellscape.
@@mamavswild my guy you missed my point and proved it at the same time. I never said I was a Danny Ric fan nor do I not like tommo. I watch all his stuff I love it.

Thank you DTS for ruining everything
It is not Netflix that ruined the fandom, it is Twitter, it is facebook, it is the very biased commentary of the pundits (regardless if you are in the UK, the Netherlands, Italy or wherever they may have drivers of their own nationality)
Over the years I have been a fan of said Lauda and Senna. I supprted Schumi, Vettel, Hamilton and now Max. I supported them because I see all of them as icons in the sport. The best of the best. But going to a track is no fun anymore if you hear monkey sounds the second Hamilton passes, if you see people flipping off a driver because he wears the wrong color or when people cheer when someone hits the wall.

1981 is Piquet, right?

My dad is a massive Hamilton fan and there were two Dutch Max fans that sat next to us and though they supported two drivers who were rivals last year, we had a good chat with them and there was no conflict at all.
Twitter as a whole does this, it's not F1 souring but just Twitter being Twitter
I actually deleted Instagram for this reason, I just want to cheer on my favorite drivers (Max & Fernando) and Don't want to see the toxicity
I still can't believe people still mad and salty after the Copse incident in 2021 like come on bruh... Just grow up and move on. It's already happened, It's already been resolved, there's no need to come back for another useless debate
Btw I like your videos so far, I've been following you and watch your video even though I rarely comments here but I only can say Keep up for the good work
Same as Abu Dhabi 2021. They cancel out, as much as Hamilton fans will say no. (to clarify, I dislike Max AND Lewis)
I think also Danny Ricc is coming under a lot of unfair and harsh criticism as well after losing his seat
Criticism is part of the job. I've criticized him before because he has had a very bad season.
That's different to abuse and insults. I don't think Danny Ric has been abused, or just a few people here and there.
Piastri, Norris and McLaren have come under lots of unfair criticism and abuse because of the fate of an F1 driver with a large fanbase
@@MevRB19 someone always has to make it about either Lewis Hamilton or Max Verstappen...
Wrong.
People were booing Vettel on the podium 10 years ago.
@@javiazar I didn't say it was perfect before, but the main recent influx coincides with DTS.. I may not be correct but my opinion.

Love to see someone publicly admit that they've been wrong and that they'll work on themselves. More of this would make the world a much better place!
Bro deserves a raise
F1 one is seeing hooliganism, which is something I'd never thought I'd say.
Drivers are humans, but to understand that, you need to possess humanity which some of these people completely lack.
@@xquahd Skysports literally made a 10 sec christmas special commercial last year featuring only the silverstone crash in slowmo, the skysports f1 logo appears while Max hits the barrier and then it show's "Marry Christmas".

Just look on Twitter at how many awful things are allowed to be said about white people. But somehow, the west is a so called "white supreme pizza" society.

The bigger the fanbase, the bigger the toxic behavior unfortunately. I've been a new F1 'fan' for a few months now and I just focus on watching the race weekends and sometimes videos on YT like these. I'll try to avoid joining social media F1-pages. Thanks for warning me.
The internet especially football and F1 fans hav become poisonous over the years... Its unbearable.
I usually take a break from social media when certain stuff happens. Especially twitter. It's a hell hole in those comment sections
Pre-Liberty F1 was good whilst it lasted
I feel this true of all professional athletes not just F1. Staying behind a screen enables a lot of people to say stupid things
The Dutch fans or Verstappen fans did harrassed ladies
Great video!! Im relatively new to the sport and the F1 fan base reminds me of the US political landscape. Really toxic and no room for convo.
It's very similar. Just a small part of the fan base but sadly the loudest part.
Love to see someone publicly admit that they've been wrong and that they'll work on themselves. More of this would make the world a much better place!
2:31 to 2:45 hits the nail on the head. And sadly these people don't realise it.
Hey. Your content is great. Keep it up
Much appreciated thank you!
Sorry to hear about that one and hoa you had to experienced it. Also, if you don't mind me asking, what's the sport you were competing in?
With the rising gas prices I’ll be burning my Lewis merchandise.
If anyone chips in I’m happy to keep it!
Yeah racism bad and stuff but taking therapy for seeing dome nasty words on a screen sounds weak af, especially when you are not the target of them
I'm going to go out on a whim here and say that the n word wasn't the only shit they saw there, you can post videos on reddit and I'd wager there'd be some pretty awful videos and text (example: a person of color being whipped, beat to death, etc).
you might think that getting mentally ill from seeing "dome nasty words on a screen" is weak, but they are a massive public figure, say half of their comment section, or half their DMs are all people abusing them, sending them death threats, that will eventually start to impact their mental health, it paints this picture that they are useless and should die? what you have just said is that they should 'toughen up' and act like nothing happens when what can happen is people don't overreact because someone crashed into their favourite driver.

I’m not on F1twt because my logic is I have a $h1t enough life to be dealing with more toxicity.
i always hate the people who start fights and throw fireworks and stuff during football matches, kinda sad that f1 is slowly turning into this aswell
People have always been this way, its just easier to see now with social media.
I miss the old F1, the fanbase slowly becoming football
The line was crossed at Silverstone i believe...
Lol as a Fernando Alonso Fan we consistently behead opposing fans.
I’ve seen horrible behavior by fans of all drivers…and many Daniel fans are lashing out and causing abuse of his own due to his performance issues (he’s a great driver he’s just slow…well YEAH that’s the point!!)
There’s nothing wrong with Tommo’s commentary….if we follow your logic down the trail, all criticism would be banished speech because someone somewhere won’t like it and will disagree. That’s a hellscape.
@@mamavswild my guy you missed my point and proved it at the same time. I never said I was a Danny Ric fan nor do I not like tommo. I watch all his stuff I love it. I was making a statement from what I have seen in the comments. You have to understand what I was saying in regards to criticism. I don't for a minute think someone like tommo is feeding the fire like I said. I am saying a difference in opinion attracts people to defend their own and those platforms offer that. Just like you commenting on my post. You have proved my point and missed it at the same time.
@@mamavswild you have not asked where I get my "most lando fans" from you just jumped down my throat. If you had I would have said in the comments. Me and a friend went through the other day trying to find out why the hate for Danny Ric and George is there. So it's just what we have seen in the comments... You then talk about Danny Ric fans lashing out... Why? I wasn't saying his fans are ok I was using a situation as a point like I said in my post. Smh some people man
i don`t think most fans were angry about that british fans were cheering max crash atleast i was more pissed at lewis flying the british flag at the end of the race and some merc employees comments cause that will create more hate then what a fanboy with 10 followers will say on twitter
plus most of this hate is promoted by sky and some youtubers cause at the end of the day drama/hate and reinforcement of beliefs(my driver/my team is always right) sells
and i`m so sick of people talking about last year
The community is becoming increasingly toxic at an alarming rate, i visit the Formula 1 sub daily and the amount of jabs, toxic comments and people plainly just wanting to shit on something is increasing a lot, even FormulaDank, a meme sub, could be called FormulaToxic these days as the amount of memes is decreasing and you often see posts that are plainly there just to stir up something
So sad, just be respectful if you support a team or driver don't abuse others and move on
