Hey Dylan, I never responded to anything about the dovers. This is my uncle Timmy on bass/vocals. Somewhere back in Santa Barbara California, are the original reel to reels. I have a few stories on the band, here’s one. There was a battle of the bands in SB in the early 60’s, The dovers beat out strawberry alarm clock (incense and peppermints)…also they were invited to play American Bandstand but Nancy Sinatra got to be on with “these boots are made for walkin’”….kinda obvious. But I actually heard my uncle play his own music about 25 years ago, and I remember it like yesterday, I was totally mesmerized on how he conveyed his past, with where he was in that moment, and it was like watching a incredible painter, his simple melody and bluesy mature voice could hypnotize man! But yes, the dovers were an underground surf/psych band with relevant to ahead of its time feel and musicality! Glad to get that off my chest. She’s gone is about his high school sweetheart who left him for another band mate
@@fallspeed Thought 8 mi. high was released in late 9/65, but was banned , a short while for it's drug connotations . When was the earliest to play on record the LSD , or hallucinagenic experience?
@@luiscalcano4359 According to Wikipedia, Eight Miles High was recorded in January 1966 and released in March. I don't know who did the first song about LSD.
@@fallspeed There was a garage / band group that did a tune titled 8mi. high by early 3/1966 , or was it early spring 66? Anyway , I think the groups name was Pretty Faces , and the title of the tune was LSD; supposedly it was really about British currency , because a British Pound emblem was a pound , w/ letter L(signifies a pound in England). Thanks for the info on the Byrd's psych tune "8 Miles High". I was close enuff wen I thought tune came out in late 65, but , yes, early 1966 sounds about right, and I think it was band from quite a few radio stations here in America back then. Song was way ahed of its' time.
Didn't the Human Expression (an L.A. group; garage band/punk /psych ; which is the best type of psych in it's authenticity and original psych) had a great early psychedelic / punk/ garage tune in Psychedelic Velocity that came out , or recorded , in late 1965 , and was a great psych hit in early 66, and there was "Optical Sound " by them , another early psych tune besides what the Dovers had , and , let's not 4get The 13th Floor Elevators that came out w/ "You're Gonna Miss Me" in late 65 (recorded) , and the Seeds in "Pushing To Hard" , also came out in late Summer/ early Autumn in 65 , and a big hit late 65 , and early 66! This is Hug Bug using a friend's cell ph. ,because mine went kaputsky!
Wow, released 4/1966 and I was 8yrs. Old in 3rd grade. And , "Eight Miles High " a month before is interesting , and fascinating no doubt. My friends wild child sister had this tune along w/ the Byrd's "Eight Miles High."Actually , "Eight Miles High" came out in late 1965 but was band from the radio airwaves until 1968about. This is Hug Bug using a friend's phone. You Remember Hug Bug?
A great track from a great band, underrated? Sadly yes. I wonder if the produced good music just because they loved doing so....since just about any musician wants to make money
Did they steal the intro from the Rolling Stones Paint it black...or did the Rolling Stones steal the intro from the Dovers for Paint it black...?Very intriguing.
From what i have read on the internet,"Paint it Black"was recorded between 6th and9th March 1966,and the Dovers "ThirdEye"not recorded until middle April,1966.So somewhere inbetween the Dovers had heard a snatch of "Paint it Black"before it was released and decided to preempt the Stones.Didnt work. The Stones made the millions, the Dovers went back to Skid Row....
Another terrific song from The Dovers!! Can't understand how they weren't more well-known.

Santa Barbara based band....the best!
Very cool. My third eye 👁 is vibrating.😎✌🏽☮️🎸
Ahead of their time. This song heralded music that was to become mainstream the following year. Awesome track.
So powerful! And extremely deep, considering it was April 1966.
Far out man seriously this is absolutely brilliant I love it 😁😁😁

I don't think your neighbours would agree with you.
Great tune!
Released in April 1966, the Dovers' The Third Eye is one of the earliest attempts at reproducing the LSD experience on record
Nice lift Jon!
Sounds a lot like Eight Miles High, which was released a month earlier.
