The 13th Floor Elevators did make it big. Maybe not in the conventional sense of success, but then again we shouldn't figure things in conventional terms here, now should we? They made an indelible impression in Rock history; for example, Grace Slick went down the rabbit hole following these guys, and then set off along the trippy road to San Francisco where she climbed aboard the Jefferson Airplane and radically altered its flight path.
kabeauregardajax maybe this song sounds better in mono, but stereo is probably the best way to hear psychedelic music. While it's true that there are many great Psych albums that are best heard in mono, this really only applies to the albums that came before late 67. By 68, artists like Jimi Hendrix had shown the Incredible possibilities of stereo and the majority of all records where now only being mixed in stereo. So you had about a year and a half of majority mono Psych vs about 3 years of majority stereo Psych. Another factor is that the psych music of 66-67 was simpler and less ambitious than 68-70. Most artists didn't have as much artistic control, technical skill, experience, and where influenced by the simplistic garage band sound. By late 68 16 track recordings and other tech advancements meant you could add more and more to the songs. Stereo just needed a few years to get balanced and have younger minds mess with it, the older ppl in charge usually decided to put all vocals on 1 side and the instrumentals on the other which is blazed
Hi Mr.DC24, Yeah i hear ya! i Really prefer the Prunes and their soundstages they invented, lot's of people fail to realize what they brought to the table. HP Lovecraft also, can't listen to these guys in mono, but the Elevators just shine. Nice chattin' with ya! Regards from Valencia Spain.
@@irplane I'm not so much on the mono sounds as I am on the mono mixes, if they could find a way to remix Interstellar Overdrive in Stereo WITH the extra Organ I would be one happy fucker.

makokan nakokam But the Elevators predate Country Joe... and also sound nothing like them. I'm sure you were just being humorous haha. They both promoted the use of psychedelics in a very in- your-face way though that's fer sher.
checked out your site..some great stuff there..phish especially..long live Garcia..and so cool about the elevators being before country joe..alot of farfesia organs in those daze ..lots of fuzztone but great times
Grateful Dead are just a poor man's Elevators. Tommy and Roky went all the way; enlightenment, incarceration, insanity, self-destruction. The norm for taking too much acid, but it was certainly worth the sacrifice.
And by all rights, Country Joe & the Fish should've been more musically experienced than the Elevators considering the Elevators' guitarist and vocalist were 18, and 19 years old in 1965. Country Joe doesn't even have an electric jug, get real.
That's a GREAT fucking song right there! How on god's green earth was this not blasting out of every radio in north America in the early '70's?
Texas was too busy forcing Roky to undergo electro shock treatments.

As I think the Guardian (a British newspaper) said in a review "the legendary almost MYTHICAL 13th Floor Elevators".....
Popularity and sales reports not withstanding, cause these guys are a far better band than Jefferson Airplane.
Yes relcaldwell, these and label mates The Red Krayola (My hurricane fighter plane....of love) were amongst the very tip of acid dipped psyche
Janis you mean?
released in the boxed set "Sign of the 3 Eyed Men". Can send you and mp3 of it, if you haven't now got it already.
Amazing!... Bonus Track on Easter Everywhere!
My favourite 13th Floor tune! This and Levitation just knock me out!

How delightful! Thanks for posting this.
Mono version kills this. If anybody asks the real psychedelic secret. This is it. Mono is king.

@@psychedeliccarrie5921 I wish the whole album was in stereo with the sounds that are missing. Pow R. Toc H as well.
The only way to listen to these wonderful guys is on vinyl! Cd. and digital don’t do them service. Love Rokys solo stuff too.
Fuzzzzzzztacular!

Because there's no fucking justice in the world. But we can blast it out now, yeah??!!!
What album is this song on?
I think the song is actually called "It's You". Anyone provide all the lyrics? Can't hear some of them.

The Elevators and Country Joe both formed in 1965--separated by a few months--not wanna bees.
