John Du Can: The Attack, Andromeda and Atomic Rooster. His style of lead guitar was ahead of its time. Check out his intro on Atomic Roosters "Sleeping For Years" it's insane... Especially for the music of that time. Crank that song way upppp!
It says in the Independent's obituray that John Du Cann "moved to Norwich and manufactured greenhouses and conservatories". It's a very respectable and useful thing to do, to make something. Yet one cannot help but feel a sense of sadness that this musical genius was making conservatories for middle managers - the bathos of the UK over the past three decades. I will always travel through the portals of his music, into the Strange House of truth. John Du Cann, play in the music of the spheres.
Hi Suhayl, John DuCann (John William Cann) formed the band ANDROMEDA after the Attack, and then in 1970, he joined ATOMIC ROOSTER. -he didn't end up manufacturing greenhouses, he unfortunately passed away of a heart attack in 2011. He left a legacy of great music with us that will last forever :)
even prettier and groovier than i remember it as a child - this kind of music always improves the quality of existance, no matter what the situation & should be required listening for today's music students
Someone MUST correct a monstrous historic injustice and press this marvel (and all the other recordings originally lined up as singled by the band) on 7"!!!!
Pretty groovy song! The guitar, bass, and drum parts have kind of an early '60s surf instrumental sound, blended nicely with a late-'60s psychedelic feel.

A truly underrated magical song, from a great band. Anyone who likes this should also check out a great cover version by Spanish band FOGBOUND from much more recently, their other stuff is similar style too.

Am I the only one who thinks this sounds so much like the Who's Amazing Journey from Tommy, only much better. I believe it was recorded before the Who recorded Tommy. Strange House was never released by Decca in the UK. Maybe the Who nicked it for Tommy. What's more, the flip side of this gem, titled Mr Pinodny's Dilemma, has references to a Dumb, Deaf, and Blind Boy.

@@dang2443 ok, maybe my English is not good enough. What I intended to say was: 'Freakbeat' is the really great musical style of the sixties imo even if the term 'Freakbeat' was given only many years later to different kind of tracks that are somewhat a bit off the 'normal' Pop and Beat sound of that time, that could be heard mostly in the radio and made the charts. Nonetheless 'Freakbeat' signifys a rough, hard and freaky style of 60s Beat, Pop, Garage for my ears no matter if this term existed in the 60s or not, find it quite suitable..

awesome music. radio has been playing the same 1960s era songs on radio since the early 1980s but never played this.
And the strange thing is, also big hits from the time are excluded
Brilliantly underrated band. From Strange Daze, one of my favorite albums. Thanks for posting.
This is dirty good.
This is the kind of song I'd love to do a cover version of if I was in a goth-garage band, like The Horrors etc.
These guys had their own sound. Brilliant beat. Thank you.
