Before his passing I was soooo excited about the idea of the Max Payne remakes. I had pictures in my head of Sam Lake in his iconic looks, the marvellous version of Max Payne theme that Petri Alanko made for the 20th anniversary playing in the background and James McCaffrey reciting:"They were all dead. The final gunshot was an exclamation mark to everything that had led to this point..." but all that excitement was gone the moment I learnt the sad news. James, you are a legend that will live on in the memories of millions and your performance is unparalleled. I'm glad he went knowing that
@BehindTheVoicePod Yeah man, it's like he's a personification of everyone's depression, reality man, that's what he got me in touch with. Wish someone interviewed him before he passed(I know Geoff Keighly did, but it wasn't an interview, more of a promo), and would have loved to hear from him. He will be missed, truly, Rest in Peace, and thanks for everything, McCaffrey. You should do one with Rob Wiethoff next, he's a great guy, very cool, and a pleasant person to be around.
I was just telling a friend about James yesterday. I was only involved in this fandom for a short time when he died but I felt his loss keenly. Truly a special man.
I was so in awe when I heard of that sad news. I've been listening to his voice all my childhood. I can't never forget the moments when I discovered that he also voiced Thomas Zane from Alan Wake and Trench from Control, and when I heard his voice again from the Alan Wake 2 trailer. I was so looking forward to hear it again in the Max Payne remakes, but this is a very early good bye. Whoever the new VA for the remakes is, I hope they are gonna kill it in legacy of James.
I remember my brother getting max payne for the OG Xbox when I was little and remembered how mesmerized I was with not only with James voice but also him telling this dark graphic novel in a intriguing way with me thinking "This is getting good, wonder what happens next?" It seemed to me that James knew how to set the tone for these nitty-gritty stories.
Playing all three MP games on pc felt different much like playing the Batman Arkham games Asylum, City, and Knight felt different after both of their lead voice actors died.
So I hear Remedy is working on a Max Payne remake. I guess they're gonna get a soundalike? Or something? I mean trying to replace this man is gonna be like replacing Kevin Conroy as Batman. It's not gonna really happen.
I don't think so they will replace it. It could be possible that they use the audio that was recorded then and utilize that and probably take Rockstar's help to get the digital face of James
@@tteokl I hope Remedy wouldn't. Call me old-fashioned but I like it when actors have a beating heart. The backlash and overall disappointment will be much greater if they don't simply recast him. The new actor gets to carry on the torch with heart and respect, and sure will be fun and endearing to see at cons and whatnot.
lol they did not drop the ball at all. Alex Casey as a character is a big thing throughout the thing. In the dark side, its a different type of character and in the real world he is very different. Both the sides of the story are explored
We will always remember him.
Immortal 🙏

James Mccaffrey was the biggest loss of 2023. I will always remember you, my hero
My dad passed away in 2023 as well.

I read that last words in Mona's voice
Max made quite a big difference in my life. I can never imagine a world without him. Rest in Peace McCaffery.
He made a big differences in everyone's life. Sucks that he's not here with us
Yeah it's suck

Same here. I feel like I lost my childhood friend . It just hits different
He actually died just after the game release, his soul had left time for him to finish what he really loved, before saying goodbye in style

He definitely was the best

Yaa and now its ingraved in all of our heads
Best voice ever. I would love to have James read a book out loud.
Oh yaa tbh James could read out anything and it would be great

Yaa I totally understand that.
I just got the shadows rushed me trophy yesterday on July 4th. this ones for you James R.I.P.

I missed him played character as Joe Astor's viper
Wasn't it Timothy Gibbs though?
I meet James wife, i feel so sad, was a wonderful family 😢😢😢❤
Oh wow. I'm glad you met his wife
james mcaffery had a very deep voice in max payne 1
He always had a deep voice in all Max Payne games even in Alan Wake 2
He's irreplaceable

@@BehindTheVoicePodwith the help of generative AI, I think they can legally train James voices and produce seemless voices for the remake game

They dropped the ball with Alan Wake 2. Alex Casey should've been the second playable character. Not some random.
