    Sorry to hear about your injury and I hope you recover well. For harness lines, just using a 6-7 mm nylon cord instead helps and you will not hit your face with it. Perhaps it would be good to switch stances as well when you ride so you don't need to ride toe side. If you just switch to toe side briefly before going into the jibe, leaving the jibe you will be back in the comfortable heel side stance!

      I have been back on the water now a couple of weeks and yes, I switch feet every time to avoid over stressing the ankle, I also got these clip-on ride engine harness lines that work very well...thanks for your feedback, much appreciated.

    52 years here, 87kgs and familiar with inflammation, in my case in the fingers. Been using a harness from the beginning two years ago. I will stick to the soft handles because they take shockloads. I overpower a bit so I do not have to pump that much after falling which happens a lot during tack training. Pumping the wing is what gives me the biggest load because this is without harness of course. I also have quite big frontwings, 2100 and 1600cm2 for easy wing pumping. I tried a 1250 but it is too stressing on the muscles. Maybe I go for a downwind board which makes taking off easier before I try a small frontwing again. Be gentle to yourself

      Thank you for your comments and sorry to hear of the fingers, I had noticed a few knuckles being sore and inflamed before the wrist gave me issues, that was the warning signs right there and you were right to adopt a harness in the beginning....have fun on the water, cheers.

    Underhand grip on the leading hand helps my wrist and shoulder. Feels weird at first, but it is much better biomechanically.

      I will experiment with that as I would wind foil with a front underhand grip as well....thanks for the comment

    I’ve had wrist tendinitis and/or osteoarthritis for the past 1.5 years. I just took 3 weeks off work and it went away (mostly). I think when I combine typing, guitar playing, and winging, it gets aggravated. By taking time off of 1 or 2 of them, it has gotten better. I also have problems with my knees. I found a great and cheap knee brace from Amazon and I have changed the way I walk. I walk using my butt muscles instead of my thighs which means when I strike the ground, my knee is straighter and takes less lateral load. As you know, one’s knees get lateral load while winging. Anyway, long story short, there are things one can figure out over time (or time just heals). My shoulders use to kill and now there is no issue even though I don’t use a harness. Like you said, everyone is built different and has had different histories. Good luck!

      Thanks Martin and interesting to read of your tendinitis as well. I used to be an commercial installer years and would spend all day drilling into steel that used to make my wrists hurt. Sorry to hear you had to take some time off as well but there is really no way around it. Ice, massage and rest. Have fun winging 👍

    Sorry to hear that I wish a quick recovery... but thanks for sharing .. I did have problems with my right arm ...tendinitis ... started to use a good harness (and change the mouse at the computer to left)... once I got used .. I now always use it .. the upwind performance lowers a bit .. But what is that against being able to go out ...
    Against your problem that the harnessline hits on your mouth and nose... I use just a rope .. easier to avoid hitting when pumping and for the start I take the rope in my hand.....
    Concerning the ankle ... I once had the beginning of that problem but than a) I switch sides more frequently .. and b) I altered my stand to more front foot pressure.
    Again thanks for sharing.

      Great feedback and comments, thank you. I have started to switch feet quicker and much less of the toeside but the damage was done, and I should have rested it sooner (too stubborn). There is a bungee harness line that I have seen and heard about as well and I will have to adjust my wing pumping like you said.....thanks again

      Hey Joe. Yes I’ll have to get used to wearing a harness now and pumping the wing without getting smacked upside the head with the harness line 😅 see you on the water at some point buddy.

    Unfortunately age is a big factor too ,for me it’s the upper body, recently the shoulder , arms and hand had carpal tunnel syndrom too from time to time , im using a harness for winging bigger than 4m it’s helped tremendously . At 43 i have to train myself everyday twice a day ( animal flow and another muscle group each time) to not get hurt, rest is an important factor too! I wish you a full recovery ! 👍

      Completely agree, I turn 50 next month and past 2 years have noticed much more soreness. Elbow, shoulder and knee...for sure I will have to using a harness when I get healed up. Thanks for your comment!!

    Agreed with many injury related issues. I’ve had both of my wrists flair up with pain, at different times, and I’ve been using Duotone booms and hard handles for 3 years now. Started doing old windsurfing stretches before my sessions and it’s been almost a year since my last painful post session. Was curious about your Slingshot board, I’m currently riding a Quattro 5’2 80L board and weight 195lbs and have 3.5 years of experience. I have all my turns, Heineken jibes too, and like jumping. I found your same model slingshot boards on sale used, including the 50L and 70L. What size are you using, and would you go smaller, with increased skills, or just continue riding the same size. Your skill looks very similar to mine. I enjoyed the front v-strap while it lasted, using a NSI glue-on insert for the center bottom strap hole. Unfortunately it came unglued during a jump at Sherman Island and I’ve since gone to a single front foot strap. I’ve since ordered a 5-hole insert plug I’ll have to install to use my v-strap again with confidence. Thankfully I didn’t fall hard when I jumped and had my front foot detach from my board midair, I just kicked my back foot out and landed free of my board. Hope you’re back on the water soon and without repetitive injuries. I haven’t used my new harness system yet but hoping to next week

      Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated. I have been back on the water this week using a harness and keeping it no more than 30-40 mins and so far so good. I have 3 boards that I use for different winds and whether I’m on the river or ocean side. My daily driver is the 80L (search my video for the review). I use 60L for high winds over 20 mph and a 90 liter for onshore winds in the surf. The waves in Florida are tightly packed and need the volume to get out the back. Like you said I have been working on stretching and cable work with a forearm strap at the gym to build forearm strength instead of annoying the wrist issue. Sounds like your having fun on the water as well, may it long continue for you 👍

    Dean I hope you are rehab'd and back for some fall-ish conditions ASAP! I am similar to you in windsurf>windfoil>wingfoil but not nearly as good plus I started shortboarding in the mid 90s. When I first started windfoiling I had a lot of stress on my outer tendons of the knee which would go absolutely crazing with my regular road cycling routine (my aerobic fitness exercise). I believe that, for me, it was when I settled in to really understanding the foil flight and became comfortable is when I put less stress on my knees. I finally relaxed a bit. I tend to use bigger equipment than I need and that will certainly add extra unneeded stress all across the body but I am downsizing gear size intentionally in wingfoiling. I can tell already that toe-side will not be my thing -- at least being really proficient and a regular toe-side rider. That one motion alone is really tough on my knees. I see the stance switch as a speed killer and loss of balance point for me but I am willing to forgo some of that. I try to vary the loading on my road bike to keep those tendons "toned". I basically gave up running years ago but even when I ran I still had those stringy and tight tendon issues around the knee and they still flare up. Wingfoiling is so fun! For my friends who want to return to windsurfing I tell them to skip it and wingfoil instead. Godspeed on your recovery!!

      Thank you for the comment Richard. I had been very keen on cycling when I lived in Texas but living in Florida the roads are a death trap and quit road biking 2 years ago. Last year I had a cortisone shot in the knee because I was tweaking it riding toeside and also not cycling I think lost me that ligament strength. Of course the next joint down was the ankle that took the brunt of it. So looking forward to getting back on the water and I’m following the doctors advice to the max 😊

      I ride too. it is low impact and gives me good aerobic workout. Have you tried ride on a mountain bike? no clip pedals might help if you change your body position often.

    Thanks for sharing and I hope you will get well soon. I use Duotone Slick that has a boom, and I tend to always hold my boom all the time. I saw you do sometime let go with your wing, which is a good rest. I don't have your stress injury (not much wind in the summer here). But when I wing a lot during the spring, I do feel stress in my forearms (no issue with my ankle or knee, but I don't use foot strap). I will use my hand or massage gun to destress the forearm starting from both end of forearm muscles, and it does help. Recover soon.

    a friend broke her femur this summer on a wing foil, she is starting to fly well, but she lost control, the foil came out of the water and she fell on the edge of the board, instead of trying to eject herself away from the board and the foil, she tensed up to resist the fall, result: surgery, 3 months of immobilization

    hey big one i tore all the ligaments in my ankle 5 weeks ago. i landed stupidly on a small jump and have no load on my foot for a total of 12 weeks... everything will be fine and after that i will train my legs a lot more! use the time for sensible things and prepare for the next time. don't forget to do back exercises so you won't have a monster muscle soreness after your injury.

    • @peaplecreative
      @peaplecreative  Год назад

      Thats a painful one for sure. I landed a jump earlier in the year both feet in the straps but my torso and head went all the way back stressing out both ankles as well. All I can do right now is indoor bike, leg extensions and hamstring curls, cannot use my wrist for back, shoulders or arms for next 3-4 weeks...Aarghhh!

  • @pedroforonda

    Shoulder injuries? I've got some of that 🤥tendonitis, not sure why, pumping the wing may be... being 64...or a combo of the two. So I'm taking it easy for a while and see how it goes with Phisical therapy. Good luck on your recovery. One more thing. Stay away from the jumping. Here on Maui only kids(10 to 30 years old) jump. After that age, you don't see that many people jumping.

    • @peaplecreative
      @peaplecreative  Год назад

      Thanks for the comment, yes, the wing pumping especially in lighter winds can make shoulders and elbows inflamed and painful. I know of several wingers that have had tendinitis in the elbow and no longer really push super light wind winging. I have started to throttle back the jumping and these injuries have given me much time to reflect and preserve the joints and not damage them...thanks again enjoy your winging!

    Do you think wing or windfoiling is more gentle on the knees than windsurfing?

    • @peaplecreative
      @peaplecreative  Год назад +1

      Wind foiling I feel is a lot less stress on the knees. There is a lot more kneeling on the wing board when winging and also stress on the knee joints when riding toe side.
