A way to farm Handmade mods is to fast travel to the Overseer's Camp and go left, just a few meters up in the road will have two BOS Soldiers spawn that can drop this if killed. They got chance to drop some weapons so the handmade is NOT a 100% loot, but, they do drop it and if you server hop you can get a lot of mods really fast
I'm doing some testing, so 2 x runs through WV Lumber and so-far I've had 1 per run. I'll keep running and update. PS. doing the same for a few other spots so will record them as well and share data @@scarletsymbioteoof9790
In my opinion. The handmade is the best commando weapon for aiming down the sights. Sure using vats is easier, but playing without vats feels more realistic and challenging.

So I use a bloodied ffr with faster movement while ADS handmade as my secondary for mob killing while still keeping efficiency and fun.
I remember the old days when the Handmade Plan was exceedingly difficult to obtain... I believe you had to farm the Patrol daily mission at the Penitentiary, and it only had a 5% chance to drop. People were selling that plan for astronomical amounts in those days, too. Ahhh... the dawn of Fallout 76 was an interesting time, lol
I recall it would very low chance to spawn in the Watoga Train Station vendor, but it was obviously only one for that world. So I camped for a straight week hoping to grab it and I never could lol.
When crafting weapons for scrapping, use an issue of "Backwoodsman 3", this will greatly reduce the cost of crafting. I used these when crafting/scrapping the Radium Rifle for mods...
The old world spawn on the top of the spa in Berkley Springs is still there. It's moved a bit and you have to fight a bunch of Blood Eagles to get to it instead of just a couple of scorched, but it's still an option.

I farmed that exact Handmade spawn back when this game launched to learn mods. After a few weeks I knew them all. Ironically, it took another three months or so to acquire the Handmade Plan as it was exceptionally rare in those days.
The "Tweaked Automatic Receiver" is currently (Feb 2023) different than the Powerful Automatic Receiver. It has higher critical and lower base damage. I had an anti-armor one and I shot a scorched in the torso for 169 base and 236 with a crit using Powerful Automatic. I changed to 'Tweaked' and I got 163 base and 252 with a crit. If you use a crit build where every other shot crits then for 2 shots you get 405 on Powerful and 415 on Tweaked. I tested on level 75 Super Mutant and for 2 shot got 330 powerful and 348 tweaked. Two headshot on Super Mutant got 661 Powerful and 696 Tweaked.
I have found plans in Watoga (for Purchase), in Berkeley Springs (for Purchase), it dropped for me in Patrol Duty event at the prison. I routinely found World Drop Handmades in Big Bend Tunnel (without doing Riding Shotgun) and the Blood Eagle camp with the cooks in the Mire (I forget). Sometimes I buy plans (we have to do something with Max Caps) to give to cool new players. This weapon competes with the Fixer for my attention, and I craft one for nearly every lower level player I play with. As a newer player, I hunted down all information on the Handmade, and Turtle lays out the wisdom in all his videos. I remember when I finally got the plans from a Vendor Bot and I excitedly went back to my camp to craft a legendary version with my newly acquired legendary modules.... and couldn’t. Hopefully we can craft to our hearts content this Summer, I will need to farm Copper as I routinely farm the rest of the components. AA Ex and Quad 25FR are my best ones, I have an Instigating and Vampires in my camp.
Hey Turtle - nice vid. For anyone new and wondering why you would choose a handmade over the fixer, it really boils down to its 'outside vats' usage. The handmade's recoil is far more manageable and you can also aim down sights and 'snipe' where as if you try with the fixer it bounces all over the place, however inside vats the fixer edges out over the handmade with its (slightly) increased damage and less ap cost... oh and the stealth bonus. Also, for a 3rd star faster crits is also a nice (and better than 90% RW as you say is kinna pointless). I'm hoping that when the 4 and 5 star legendary effects come along we can get stealth as one of them - I'd love a stealthy handmade!!
I use a lot of Vampire weapons and have two characters I play. My older character got a Vampires Handmade the first year I was playing and it had a 75 round magazine. Bethesda screwed me by nerfing it down to 25 rounds and it lost much of the original appeal to me. My lower character has a Vampire three star handmade but I am not able to put an automatic receiver on it even though I would have sworn I learned the plans along the way somewhere. There used to be a handmade on a shelf in Berkley Springs where the Blood Eagles are now and another every now and then on top of the big office building with the turrets around it. Hi Turtle. The handmade is my main non-boss weapon. I am full health/non-junkies and never use VATS because I enjoy the challenge of manual aiming. The handmade kicks less than the Fixer so I'm able to keep it on target better, esp. on auto with scope. I'm always looking to boost my DPS. Of course, perks are crucial. Psychobuff also helps. I have found that Faster Fire Rate (+25%) is the most important legendary effect for my build for any ranged weapon. In theory, this is a +25% dps boost at the expense of more ammo. Furious adds some further DPS, better than Mutants (I think). I use Tank Killer x3, so I don't expect AA is useful. I guess my question is, all perks/chems being equal, is Furious/Faster Fire Rate/Faster Reload the best legendary choice for a non-junkies full health build? It'd be interesting (to me at least) to see you test thoroughly for this build. I also wonder what similar players think.
My favourite is bloodied explosive because explosive is still multiplicative and with maxed intelligence and 5 ranks in demo expert you do around 210-220 damage per shot,also i changed my aligned stock and barrel from my be handmade because i found i was way more accurate with true long barrel and stock.
I've had an Aristocratic Explosive Handmade for awhile now. And have just modded it up. Now with a drum magazine its my got to auto rifle but my perks are set for semi auto, as my Executioner’s explosive fixer is my main rifle. But will change the barrel when I've unlocked the one you recommended. And will test the out the magazine's too.
To date, my luckiest roll from Murmrgh was a QE25 Handmade. Ended up trading it for a J2515fr Fixer, and then later I found a J25 Handmade in a player vendor for a decent price which quickly earned a permanent place in my favorites wheel. I probably took a loss in value on the first trade but I'll take FFR over explosive any day of the week.
i have fixer j2525 and QE25 handmade and i prefer QE handmade all day long especially on boss fight when im out of AP, handmade recoil is easy peasy so i can keep shooting when ap is regenereting instead of waiting
Absolutely, FFR outperforms Explosive after the first shot in terms of time to kill. Also as a non-vats player I find the explosions make targeting more difficult. I run a JAim HM and fixer to practice for NW but a J2525 HM and Quad2525 Fixer set up for vats crits for bosses
This isn't a guarantee method but I've found if you know the bos little check point that starts on the road with the overseers camp and the wayward follow the road down headed towards Flatwoods if you kill the brother hood at the location they have a medium chance of giving handmades
I’ve been weighing handmade vs fixer. The fixer does slightly more damage but the 45 ammo is more expensive to make. After your receiver vid I’ve been using .38 on my primary which seems to erase the cost / damage difference. I suppose it’s down to how significant is the sneak bonus? Also the.38 auto receiver just sounds cool 😎 with a suppressor.
My absolutely most precious legendary mod for VATS use is 50% VATS HIT CHANCE. It has some awesome effects: counters the degradation of accuracy caused by distance, causes major economy in bullets, and of course your VATS will last longer, since you need less shots to do the business. You will notice (for an example) that you will be able to kill an extra mutant with each magazine 🤩
Yea... I got a quad/ffr/rl handmade. Gave it to a newer player trying to help them out. I explained that it was a really good roll, they decide to focus heavy weapons overnight. Next day, I'm like "Oh, cool! Let me find you a nice heavy I have stashed to get you started, but let me have that handmade back." "Oh....uh, I kinda put it in the machine." No, I don't think I will give away anything anymore. I haven't played since that day lol.
This is build rather than weapon related, but worth commenting on vats crits and high DPS weapons. This will influence preferred choice for second and third star effects.
lmfao “it shouldn’t be hard to buy a plan” i swear i’m not even exaggerating i have over 300 hours in fallout 76 i haven’t been able to find ONE handmade plan yet not at vendors, world spawn, player shops nowhere. it’s literally been the most difficult and elusive thing for me to find in this game XD

Thanks Turtle - every day is a school day I honestly have always gone tweaked receiver on a hm as I genuinely believed the mod card saying it did more crit damage with same normal damage as powerful auto - never bothered to actually test it 😂
My experience with the handmade rifle is, it packs a serious punch. I only have one fixer, several handmades and a few combat rifles. I’m still waiting to get some god rolls, but what I do have I’m very happy with. Thanks again turtle for videos which is my form of RUclips entertainment.
Ello AT, I have 3 of them but for one a Vampire one I'll speak on. I used the vampire variant for DOPS an use on it a Bayonet as they're effected by the basher an I think insicer perk in strength an being a vampire prefix I get heath back from anything I stab, so in CQC a bayonet is handy to stagger a close in foe before reloading imo.
Check out the focused receiver if you run-and-gun/ ads. I run mine with an aligned barrel, stabilised stock and compensator and it handles really well.
I use a handmade with no stock (Think it's called precision grip), a true long barrel, a reflex sight, muzzle break, the receiver that ups your damage the most, and the magazine that carries 25 rounds
I bought a two star tse for 400 caps a few months ago. It’s great bloodied and at full health and is definitely the best weapon and deal I’ve had in the game after my tse legacy flamer..
Oh weird i scrapped a handmade and it unlocked the suppressor and thought i already had it so i checked the mods and i was missing at least two thirds. This video is well timed.
I can't find hand mades anywhere. My "new" character is up to level 91 now with all commando cards. I've looked at all these places checked every single body and have only 2 mods unlocked. Guess I'll have to buy the plan and grind.
Mr Turtle great video as usual but I would suggest that bloodied and Anti armor are better than quad for most situations maybe not the big bosses but for general stuff
Got a three star Hunter's Handmade dropped into my hands with Explosive effect! Might not be primarily useful but explosive effect on mass enemies is good.
If you put ground pounder, true barrel and true stock and use formula P, you'll be shocked how accurate and good TSE handmade is. Better than BE, i know because i have them both.
Mmm... there is a lot subjective stuff in the video. Are you confirming all of that too? For example, quad on handmade is only every better if you have to reload your magazine on the same enemy and time is a concern(so only on boss battles). Otherwise, anti-armor or bloodied should be top picks.

Legendaries aren't that big of a deal: No. Really. If you show me which enemies on the map take more than 4 shots to kill using ANY handmade including plain... I'll teach you how to make a commando build so that never happens again. Legendary effects (all except vampires) only matter on enemies where you need to reload your magazine on the same enemy... otherwise they're already dead in 4 or less so why are we discussing which legendary kills them best? 1 second vs 1.12 seconds is not of any statistical difference. Everything that isn't a boss, use anything. Literally anything. Otherwise your build is broken. That and TSE beats anti armor on handmades EVERYWHERE... except bosses in my tests. My TSE handmade is second in kill speed only to my B/25/15r. On bosses, my Q/5015r is tops. My AA/25/90 collects dust because it leaves too much to be desired based on the performance of a 2 star TSE. In short, objectively based on 2 years of being a stealth commando... If it takes me more than 4, it's a boss. If it's a boss... It will need a reload... if it needs a reload... quad. Subjectively... You're both wrong as Vampires is god king of all that is under the sun and any who oppose it shall fall. ALL HAIL LORD VAMPIRES! If you're choosing to persist that we're being subjective please, tell me under what criteria YOU are basing "best" and I will test that next if I have the items.

You should talk about recoil attachments since the handmade is the best for no vats. Stabilized short barrel has best recoil but with loss of range from what I tested.
What is the difference between perforating and piercing magazines? Piercing has less ammo capacity but does it offer greater armor penetration in return?
So this is really not the video to be asking this question on but I can't find anything else on it, and God knows the reddit is almost never actually helpful so, I got the game not long ago and I'm level 65 now, but when it comes to weapon crafting apparently most weapons can only be made up to levels 45-50, according to the wiki for lots of them this is the absolute no compromises highest level you can craft for them. So what am I supposed to do? Just keep leveling up and fighting enemies that progressively get harder and harder till my level 45 guns can't kill them? Or is there a way to get weapons above these levels, you just can't craft them? This is awfully confusing cause I don't think I've seen enemies drop weapons past lvl 50 before. Help is much appreciated, Thanks.
@@heinzerbrew I'm the type of person that likes to NEVER die. If I sacrifice a miniscule amount of damage for near invincibility, that's a no brainer for me.
Bloodied All day long! Tbh hunters only increases damage against one enemy type (animals like bears, death class ect) where as bloodied will increase damage against everything and has a higher damage cap the hunters anyway which is only 30% so yeh bloodied rules

There's a Handmade spawn inside the Big Bend Tunnel, it's towards the end of Riding Shotgun I believe where you find the crates.
The quad one without vats is so satisfying to clear out places, it feels like i run out of things to kill before I even reload it

Nicely done. Ending the video with a BOLO (be on the lookout) for legendary effects is useful. I'm a big fan of quads.

There’s a “guaranteed” Handmade spawn on a rooftop in Berkeley Springs where the Chefs are. I farmed it for days to scrap it for the mods!

Sunny #2 sells handmades and lever action rifles CHEAP quite often. Scrapping these I’ve learned quite a few fantastic plans for each.

The handmade kicks less than the Fixer so I'm able to keep it on target better, esp. on auto with scope. I'm always looking to boost my DPS. Of course, perks are crucial. Psychobuff also helps. I have found that Faster Fire Rate (+25%) is the most important legendary effect for my build for any ranged weapon. In theory, this is a +25% dps boost at the expense of more ammo. Furious adds some further DPS, better than Mutants (I think). I use Tank Killer x3, so I don't expect AA is useful. I guess my question is, all perks/chems being equal, is Furious/Faster Fire Rate/Faster Reload the best legendary choice for a non-junkies full health build? It'd be interesting (to me at least) to see you test thoroughly for this build. I also wonder what similar players think.
My favourite is bloodied explosive because explosive is still multiplicative and with maxed intelligence and 5 ranks in demo expert you do around 210-220 damage per shot,also i changed my aligned stock and barrel from my be handmade because i found i was way more accurate with true long barrel and stock.
This remains one of the more customizable weapons in the game.

I've had an Aristocratic Explosive Handmade for awhile now. And have just modded it up. Now with a drum magazine its my got to auto rifle but my perks are set for semi auto, as my Executioner’s explosive fixer is my main rifle. But will change the barrel when I've unlocked the one you recommended. And will test the out the magazine's too.
To date, my luckiest roll from Murmrgh was a QE25 Handmade. Ended up trading it for a J2515fr Fixer, and then later I found a J25 Handmade in a player vendor for a decent price which quickly earned a permanent place in my favorites wheel. I probably took a loss in value on the first trade but I'll take FFR over explosive any day of the week.
i have fixer j2525 and QE25 handmade and i prefer QE handmade all day long especially on boss fight when im out of AP, handmade recoil is easy peasy so i can keep shooting when ap is regenereting instead of waiting
Absolutely, FFR outperforms Explosive after the first shot in terms of time to kill. Also as a non-vats player I find the explosions make targeting more difficult. I run a JAim HM and fixer to practice for NW but a J2525 HM and Quad2525 Fixer set up for vats crits for bosses
I play stealth commando with (Handmade) Vampire, Faster Firerate & Faster Reload Speed. Really tanky build with good dps. Love that build.
This isn't a guarantee method but I've found if you know the bos little check point that starts on the road with the overseers camp and the wayward follow the road down headed towards Flatwoods if you kill the brother hood at the location they have a medium chance of giving handmades
I’ve been weighing handmade vs fixer. The fixer does slightly more damage but the 45 ammo is more expensive to make. After your receiver vid I’ve been using .38 on my primary which seems to erase the cost / damage difference. I suppose it’s down to how significant is the sneak bonus? Also the.38 auto receiver just sounds cool 😎 with a suppressor.

Quad explosive handmade is my main weapon. 80 shots really makes a difference and with explosive I can tag pretty good with it.
My absolutely most precious legendary mod for VATS use is 50% VATS HIT CHANCE. It has some awesome effects: counters the degradation of accuracy caused by distance, causes major economy in bullets, and of course your VATS will last longer, since you need less shots to do the business. You will notice (for an example) that you will be able to kill an extra mutant with each magazine 🤩

I have a Quad Explosive Fixer with 50DR while aiming, it is a thing of vicious beauty.
Yea... I got a quad/ffr/rl handmade. Gave it to a newer player trying to help them out. I explained that it was a really good roll, they decide to focus heavy weapons overnight. Next day, I'm like "Oh, cool! Let me find you a nice heavy I have stashed to get you started, but let me have that handmade back." "Oh....uh, I kinda put it in the machine." No, I don't think I will give away anything anymore. I haven't played since that day lol.
Thank you turtle I was using the maximum capacity mag just because more bullets now I’m using stinging less bullets to take them down the enemy.
This is build rather than weapon related, but worth commenting on vats crits and high DPS weapons. This will influence preferred choice for second and third star effects.
I would request a Combat Rifle video since I resently got a 2 shot explosive and want to squeeze every last drop out of the mods hehe

Thanks Turtle - every day is a school day I honestly have always gone tweaked receiver on a hm as I genuinely believed the mod card saying it did more crit damage with same normal damage as powerful auto - never bothered to actually test it 😂
My experience with the handmade rifle is, it packs a serious punch. I only have one fixer, several handmades and a few combat rifles. I’m still waiting to get some god rolls, but what I do have I’m very happy with. Thanks again turtle for videos which is my form of RUclips entertainment.

I have 3 of them but for one a Vampire one I'll speak on.
I used the vampire variant for DOPS an use on it a Bayonet as they're effected by the basher an I think insicer perk in strength an being a vampire prefix I get heath back from anything I stab, so in CQC a bayonet is handy to stagger a close in foe before reloading imo.
Maps can drop them, as well as one can be found in a side tunnel in the blue ridge tunnels
I run bloodied commando and use a TSE25 Handmade. It's splash damage is leathal. Melts enemies with ease.
Check out the focused receiver if you run-and-gun/ ads. I run mine with an aligned barrel, stabilised stock and compensator and it handles really well.
I use a handmade with no stock (Think it's called precision grip), a true long barrel, a reflex sight, muzzle break, the receiver that ups your damage the most, and the magazine that carries 25 rounds
I bought a two star tse for 400 caps a few months ago. It’s great bloodied and at full health and is definitely the best weapon and deal I’ve had in the game after my tse legacy flamer..
Oh weird i scrapped a handmade and it unlocked the suppressor and thought i already had it so i checked the mods and i was missing at least two thirds. This video is well timed.

I can't find hand mades anywhere. My "new" character is up to level 91 now with all commando cards. I've looked at all these places checked every single body and have only 2 mods unlocked. Guess I'll have to buy the plan and grind.

Yup, you want aligned, reflex, and fire rate mods to reduce vats cost, and long barrel is the only thing that improves vats accuracy
Mr Turtle great video as usual but I would suggest that bloodied and Anti armor are better than quad for most situations maybe not the big bosses but for general stuff

I got an AA 50% limb 25% reduced ap cost handmade level 50 with my perks AP is not an issue ue and it does 90 damage a shot!

Scrapping any weapon gives you access to mods for that type of weapon, you need to find multiple handmade rifles and scrap them to get mods

If you put ground pounder, true barrel and true stock and use formula P, you'll be shocked how accurate and good TSE handmade is. Better than BE, i know because i have them both.
Rafael Santos It's a pita though constantly popping formula P to make it usable. Bethesda went over the top nerfing the two shot accuracy.

Mmm... there is a lot subjective stuff in the video. Are you confirming all of that too? For example, quad on handmade is only every better if you have to reload your magazine on the same enemy and time is a concern(so only on boss battles). Otherwise, anti-armor or bloodied should be top picks.

If you show me which enemies on the map take more than 4 shots to kill using ANY handmade including plain... I'll teach you how to make a commando build so that never happens again.
Legendary effects (all except vampires) only matter on enemies where you need to reload your magazine on the same enemy... otherwise they're already dead in 4 or less so why are we discussing which legendary kills them best? 1 second vs 1.12 seconds is not of any statistical difference.
Everything that isn't a boss, use anything. Literally anything. Otherwise your build is broken. That and TSE beats anti armor on handmades EVERYWHERE... except bosses in my tests. My TSE handmade is second in kill speed only to my B/25/15r. On bosses, my Q/5015r is tops. My AA/25/90 collects dust because it leaves too much to be desired based on the performance of a 2 star TSE.
In short, objectively based on 2 years of being a stealth commando...
If it takes me more than 4, it's a boss. If it's a boss... It will need a reload... if it needs a reload... quad.
Subjectively... You're both wrong as Vampires is god king of all that is under the sun and any who oppose it shall fall.

No matter what opinion... is still used x amount of rounds per Whitespring run regardless of agreeing or disagreeing with that even though I was sure Bloodied would be the winner beforehand. Facts are tricky like that.
4. You got something right! I THINK Vampires is better. That's the only subjective thing I've brought up! As I said it was. Very good. Now... what does that have to do with the FACT that QUAD outperforms it? That's what the video was about...and what I said was accurate, not "AGREED" with. I subjectively (as I said it was) prefer Vampires.... because everything does the same damage and I don't want to CARRY STIMPAKS around or use weight reduction for an item I no longer have any use for while using a non distinguishable amount of ammo which is worthless to save as it, with stimpak are both free for the taking all day long in Daily Ops.

You should talk about recoil attachments since the handmade is the best for no vats. Stabilized short barrel has best recoil but with loss of range from what I tested.

So this is really not the video to be asking this question on but I can't find anything else on it, and God knows the reddit is almost never actually helpful so, I got the game not long ago and I'm level 65 now, but when it comes to weapon crafting apparently most weapons can only be made up to levels 45-50, according to the wiki for lots of them this is the absolute no compromises highest level you can craft for them. So what am I supposed to do? Just keep leveling up and fighting enemies that progressively get harder and harder till my level 45 guns can't kill them? Or is there a way to get weapons above these levels, you just can't craft them? This is awfully confusing cause I don't think I've seen enemies drop weapons past lvl 50 before. Help is much appreciated, Thanks.
weapons max at lvl 50 but you can get good legendary and improve your build, enemies will melt even the strongest ones

Bloodied All day long! Tbh hunters only increases damage against one enemy type (animals like bears, death class ect) where as bloodied will increase damage against everything and has a higher damage cap the hunters anyway which is only 30% so yeh bloodied rules
