Laser engraved wedding date is a beautiful touch. As long as the husband keeps and uses the pen, he would have no excuse for forgetting the anniversary. Also, this is the first video I can recall where the maker uses the pen in the video when it was created. Great touch! BTW, I also really like the joined rings from the matching pen, great idea.
That was my plan about the date! They still use them to this day so he shouldn't forget, I did like the ending on this video, maybe I'll have to do It again soon 😁
I think I will try that. Gonna have to dust off and true up my tablesaw. I have been wanting a laser engraver and the small ones are finally affordable
I loved your video, but I finally had to turn the sound off I couldn’t stand the music any longer they kept repeating over and over and over and over and over again. If I could give you one suggestion instead of the music you could be giving instructions as to how you made the pans. We do beautiful work!
Beautiful work! I'm just starting to consider getting into laser engraving my pens - but I have a question on how you hold the pen under the laser. Can you provide any details for a rank beginner? Also, when you do this engraving, is much smoke created in the burning process? Thanks for any help in advance and once again - NICE work. I love all the inlaying you did. You have given me much to think about...:-)
Loved the video. I noticed in the comments that you said you used a little neje laser engraver but you were on the lookout for a larger one. Did you get a larger one and if so, what?
Thank you, it was CA glue that I put on, you can find the stuff I use here 👇🏻 www.starbond.com?rfsn=2605435.216dcf You can use my code at the checkout to get 10% off, it is JamesGarwood10 😁
Really nice! Are you aware of any pen building sets that dont require a moristaper on the head stock> I have a lathe from the 60's and havent found any after marketing parts for it.
Hey I'm a Maker I do not know of any, have you got something like a Nova chuck, you could put a normal pen mandrel in that and use it normally or I'm thinking a piece of wood screwed on a mounting plate and just turn a MT hole to suit your mandrel, let me know how it goes!
I do have a chuck and thought about using it to clamp the mandril but only thought they came as an MT. Rockwell Beaver 3400 Lathe www.penturners.org/forum/f30/got-25-yr-old-rockwell-beaver-3400-a-7325/ Thanks for the ideas!
Hi you have some awesome videos and I just subscribed! Can the strips of wood use to create the design be any thickness you desire or do they have to be a specific thickness? Thanks for these great videos!
Thank you for subscribing! The strips of wood need to be the same thickness as the saw blade you are using so when you make the 2nd, 3rd and 4th cut the all the bits line up properly 👍🏻
Kaged Creations thank you! I didn't sand the pen again after lasering but I do put a 6" fan on while I am lasering to blow away the smoke to minimise it staining the wood before I apply the CA, I hope that helps, thank you for the sub! If you have any more questions feel free to ask :)
Charles Kirlew hi ya, it's a little neje laser, it is great for pens but not much bigger because the bed is only 35mm square, I would of got a bigger one if I was going to get another one, I'm on the look out for a bigger one now, hopefully I'll get one soon. Thank you for watching!
Tu Mama hi ya, it's a little neje laser, it is great for pens but not much bigger because the bed is only 35mm square, I would of got a bigger one if I was going to get another one

That's so cool that such a simple arrangement of wood made a sort of Celtic knot when you put it on the lathe!
A lovely gift for your friends, beautiful pens and sentiment I am sure they were delighted.. well done
wow bro this is a perfect wooden pen
WOW !!! That's so beautiful.
Thank you Gilles! 😁

Thanks John! They still use these pens everyday 😁
Amazing pens, seems to smell their flavor of wood.
Smell?
@@JamesGarwoodseems to me to perceive their scent of wood!
Ah i see 😁👍🏻
@@JamesGarwood why, i said something of weird?
@@AdrianNeptune I think you mean how the different woods smell when you cut into them 😊

Very nice, but what kind of laser did you use?
Loved the video. I noticed in the comments that you said you used a little neje laser engraver but you were on the lookout for a larger one. Did you get a larger one and if so, what?
Thank you, I haven't yet but neje do a bigger laser that looks really good, think it's something like neje 3000, it looks like a nice hobby engraver
Where can I buy the steel parts for the pen in South Africa
They sell them here and can post to you taylorsmirfield.co.uk/ , I'm not sure about a local supplier
Why so many coats needed?
Great video! What did you coat the blanks with 10 times? some type of mineral oil?
Thank you, it was CA glue that I put on, you can find the stuff I use here 👇🏻

I think you could use the Chuck to hold it, I'll check with mine to see if it works, my mandrel is tapered
Thanks! I work close to a store that sells them but didn't want to spend the money if it meant they would not work.
Cheers!

Thanks,,,makes sense 👍
Nicely done! Do you have to sand at all again after the laser or go directly to the CA?

Thanks! I recently got one of those lasers and i'm hoping to put it to good use
good luck, setting it up is the hard bit but there are videos on youtube to help :)
