Was doing some doodling today and I realized I was using techniques I learned from this show. I'm 52 now crazy how this has stuck with me all these years. :)
OMG!!! I finally found it. I've been trying to track down this show for years. I've tried to explain it to others to see if anyone remembered what it was. This is why I draw!!! I was beginning to think it was a Mandela effect fragment. This makes me so happy. We lived in a rural area with crappy reception and this was one of those things that truly captivated me as a little guy. Thank you for posting this.
Commander Mark was one of my heros back when i was in elementry school. I've learned a lot from watching this guy and his ways of teaching allowed myself to open i new door to my imagination. Seeing this today is awesome!!
I am 38 years old now. Grew up in Lagos Nigeria 🇳🇬. My mum used to make us watch these as kids. Always called the show Commander Mark. My elder brother just asked me the name of this show, as my nephews are now 6 years and 2 years old and want them to learn to draw. Googled "Commander Mark draw draw draw" and this popped up. It brought tears to my eyes. My mum is late now but watching this brought back so many nostalgic memories of my Childhood. Thank you Commander Mark for touching the lives of millions of kids all over the 🌎
Yeah, this brought me to tears also. This is someone who shaped one of the biggest parts of my life. I used to RUN home from school to watch this. And record it and re-watch it. Over and over. And over.
This guy taught me some great lessons. I sat every single day instruction of TV excited to add to my planet or make a new one. I had so so much fun and learned lessons I nuw use as an artist today
I love this man’s energy. Plus, his teaching is different from others. He doesn’t just show a tutorial of how to draw a random character or landscape, it’s random simple stuff, but it seems to really hammer the fundamentals.
I grew up in the mountains and this was only show on the uhf. Years later - mapper on several platforms. I create in his style - just start here... This man is Mr Rodgers of art. It should be noted he was followed next block by Bob Ross. Everything about this pure happy. PBS for the win. Yea both of them - Happy little triangles with my paints :D Also apologies for making 'likes' = 421. PBS = education. Make a donation, losers.
Does anyone know which episodes are the ones where he STARTS working on the Secret City? culturaldetritusnyc's first upload about the actual fantasy land Secret City is THIS video. Clearly, you can see almost the entire city is drawn. I would love to see the videos of the beginnings of this Secret City again.

Im 31yo this year. And I remember this episode. When he drew a chain, it just blew my mind. I took it and ran. Thank you Mark! :)
I know I was like ...omg I can do that. It's that easy?. Mind blown
This is the dude that got me super interested into drawing. Never knew I would end up creating art professionally like him! Thanks Commander Mark!
Tears come to my eyes when I see these videos of my childhood idol.
Oh happenstance!

I watched this show every day for years
this man thought me how to draw. Still use some of his techniques .
I see how many people were inspired by this show, it's awesome!
Commander Mark taught me far more about art than my art teacher at school. She was more of a "draw what I'm drawing" type without explaining why.
This man inspired me growing up to attend the art institution of Pittsburgh when i was growing up. Thanks for the post.
I used to love this show. he got me into drawing

Wow! Thanks for uploading these. Brings back some great memories. Mark inspired a generation of artists and art lovers. Wonder where Mark is now?
"Pretty soon, everybody in the whole universe will learn how to draw!" THAT is vision beyond most.

Does anyone happen to know where that mural resides? I used to worship that drawing as a kid...I'd love to see it up close and really study it.
OMG I would love to go see it!!!
not sure but mark kistler has his own youtube channel so he might know. or he himself might have it.
I have met Mark several times over the last few years. He said he gave the mural to a school in California that his brother taught at.

i wouldn't be at all surprised if James Cameron got some inspiration from this show for his "Avatar" floating mountains....
