I'll stick to corded routers in the shop. We have trim, mid, and heavy duty routers. The amount of tables we router would chew through those batteries and probably that router. We have a 7/8 round over bit. One of the edges we sell uses that with 1/8 drop. We just cut 35 Maple BB tables with that edge profile. Anyone who has worked with hard maple can tell you that's a bit and router destoyer. Especially with the anount of material we are removing.
I use a festool router for kitchen worktops, I'm looking to go full cordless though. That router looks like it could handle worktops easily since the most im ever cutting is a 5mm pass in any run. Not having cables all over the place would be real nice! I did a worktop change in a 3rd floor flat once, had to have an extension slung over the balcony. This would have made the job so much easier! Think I'll be investing in one of these real soon!
That’s a lovely tool with some excellent features. Plunge base is awesome. The only negative I would give is the edge guide/fence, although functional, looks cheap and nasty when compared to what comes with Dewalt routers. Doesn’t mean I don’t want one though! Great review 👍
Nope The Metabo HPT/Hikoki 36V 1/2 inch router blows the doors off the Milwaukee In power, features, ergonomics, warranty, AC adapter capable and price
Cool router Simon, goggles should be worn when routering. those bits can shear off and fly into space if your lucky or hit you if your not so, especially trying a deep pass like that. i had one break myself luckily didn't hit me.
You should always eye protection when using power tools. Some people think it makes them looks stupid. I think people not wearing eye protection look much stupider. And when you lose an eye because of it, you are going to feel really, really stupid.
I've got the 1/4 inch version & gotta the honest, I love it.... apart from the plunge base, my locking lever is a bit sticky after a while. I think I'd prefer one with free movement & I lock it when I choose to. But it's brilliant, so much better than a friends makita cordless I borrowed!
Thats a lot of money for a 1/2"router! , I'm in the Milwaukee platform , not sure I got $600 to spare, and it's more like $700in Canada , will check @ my local Home Despot today!
@simonbowler is this router still nimble enough to do light duties like sign carving, freehand carving or do you think I should buy a compact router for those tasks? Thank u in advance
Great review, haven’t seen anyone mention if the base accepts guide bushes? And if so are they Milwaukee only? or can I use my trend ones? You recon this would be ok for kitchen worktops? Not taking the piss but 3 cuts 6” long is hardly taking a tool to its limits?
I'm getting 1 on Monday so I'll let you know if the trend guide bush fits 👍 I'm looking for this information so if any1 does actually know I'd appreciate it. Thank you 👍
@@johnrostern289 have seen a printed base on eBay that accepts them so I’m thinking it probably doesn’t, unless it’s made for the unit that is supplied without the plunge base.
Dewalt makes better tools Milwaukee is overpriced garbage you see before Dewalt it puts it tools through the ringer Milwaukee makes the tool and puts it out Dewalt already has a full size router just haven't put it out because they test their tools for months to make sure they get it right and also Dewalt is American company Milwaukee is a Chinese company
I envy you. You get the kit in a box. In Canada, we only get a contractor’s bag. As a reminder…eye protection should be a priority when working with tools. 👍
Yeah, but they pay equivalent of $600 USD or more for that kit and they get the packout but no charger or battery. You can buy the bare tool, plunge base, and an XL Packout and still have money left over. Plus, that box is ludicrously big for what it is holding. Absolute waste of space
@bblancobrnx1 Just remember, if you're buying this, you likely have extra batteries and chargers lying around. Also, that packout box is about 120$ USD that anyone alright invested in Milwaukee would happily take.
@wackyweyland8857 No, I don't think that is true. I personally have zero use whatsoever for Packout, and I am invested thousands of dollars into M12 and M18 tools, so, if my choices are between an XL Packout box or a battery and rapid charger, I'll take the battery and charger. I really don't want EITHER, so I like the way we have it here in the US. We can buy the bare tool and plunge base separately. I don't even think that option is available in Europe. I don't want add on stuff that I don't really want (like gigantic packout boxes) making it more expensive for me to get the tools I want.
@@bblancobrnx1 it all depends on how you use it. It’s really not if you plan on expanding it to hold your router, bits, extra batteries, chargers, the track guide, and edge guide, etc. People said the same thing about the XL box with the traksaw. But I rearranged mine and now it holds my track saw a charger 2 battery’s, two sets of track clamps, a tracks Square , seven blades, dust bag, and an extra roll of splinter guard.
It eats through m18 12AH batteries faster than the concrete breaker. We need an AC adapter otherwise you spend more time swapping batteries than doing work.
600 dollars for a 2 1/4 hp is kinda high. I’d rather buy the 3 1/2 corded and it’s a lot cheaper. 21/4 hp corded will run all day and no battery changes.
@@simonbowler1 well what good is pushed the machine hard? You can clearly hear the tool chatter, bit going wherever the fuck it wants therefore the tool isn’t powerful enough to do it. It would do a chamfer no problem or a Roundover no problem

I used to be mainly corded tools but for the work we do I honestly wouldn't go back.
" Borrow" one from Home Depot , carefull you might never return it, my Visa and MCard l likes me for that🤣
The problem with this video is now I want one! Great video

It's fantastic, and so easy to use with the hand grip.
Most of the kitchen fitters I know use the dewalt 3hp DW625 for worktops. So would this be a capable replacement
Those quads in them shorts 😮

I think your tasks a probably more suited to a 1/4” trim router. This will still do those things but might be a bit bulky

Hey dude, got my Router you have to get a screw on bush. I got this set and it fits perfectly 👌 hope it helps
Cool what set you get??
There goes my savings… great video! 👍🏼
Milwaukee getting too expensive for serious DIY. Switching out to DeWalt when better prices available.

That’s understandable they are a company that focuses on the trades specifically.
Seriously destroying it yourself. Well done
I'm with Milwaukee for the battery technology and their warranty which I think is the best among pro tools, advanced DYI here.
That box is gonna need a bigger van😂
😂😂😂 quite possibly!
Awesome informational review 🤙🏻 awesome but if kit! Im thinking of getting one thanks to your video cheers Simon 👍🏻
No worries, thanks for watching. You won’t be disappointed 👍🏻
In the region of £500 for this set up.
Could you test on kitchen benchtops masion miter jigs how it preforms please cheers Peter from New Caledonia
No need…. It’s perfect for kitchen worktops 👌🏼👍🏻
Top Video Simon, What do these retail at?
I’m very happy you stopped that 50mm pass early
It definitely would have carried on!!!
What brand these shorts?? Thanks
So you’ve gone a max of 3” at full depth? Why not go the full length to see what it does?

Same thing in the states

Simon can you cut you cut 38mm worktop with it? Before it came out people were saying you can’t when I’ve looked it says 60mm plunge. I’m lost. 😂
I’ve watched the rest of the video now and got the answer lol
In the states, ours doesn’t that come in a big pack out it comes in a tool bag. We got kind of screwed on that deal.
Love the pack out kit.
Could you compare it with Hikoki M3612DA?
I haven't got one of those to compare it with but I think the @TheToolJunkies might have taken a look at that one.
What no Guide Bushings !!!!! base plate ??????
Great review. I wish we had the black packout style over here in the US.
Thank you. Yeah love the black we get over here!
I wish we got the red.
The short version of an explanation for M18 *FUEL* is:
M18 FUEL is brushless, and just M18 is brushed.
Nearly, Fuel also incorporates the Redlink+ Technology aswell 😂
There are some brushless non fuel tools
There are, without Redlink+ technology I believe. You may well know far more about it than me!
It eats through m18 12AH batteries faster than the concrete breaker. We need an AC adapter otherwise you spend more time swapping batteries than doing work.
Interesting, I haven't found that to be honest. Will keep an eye on it
Simon a very cool router, where are your safety glasses eyes do not grow bac
😮 people can say what they want I don't know of any corded router can go full 50mm in one pass
Exactly! It’s not what you’d do on s real workpiece, but we had to try!
I think the Hikoki might be better.

Metabo is way cheaper and is way more powerful
What a shame you can’t do worktops with it. I’m pretty sure you can’t.
It should easily cut worktops if it can cut 15mm in green oak
@@joedavis7996 not on about the power mate. I was told it couldn’t do the depth of cut.
Im sure it would handle it but you would have to check the specs for yourself
What?? He did a 50mm cut in oak!! My question would be how many cuts would you get from one 5.0 battery
That packout case is a HUGE waste of space. My old Porter cable comes with both bases, accessories and cord and takes up half as much room.
I love the packout cases, it doesn't live in the van full time so it's easy to take in and out and store neatly away.
Here in the US the same kit is almost $700 but in an ugly canvas bag.🤮
Shame, love the pack out box!
Lol you can see cuts are garbage in the zoomed clip!! This is a video of I’ve been paid by Milwaukee I’ll say all good.
It's probably the bit, not the tool.
And the fact we’d picked green Oak and pushed the machine hard. 👍🏻

As i said in the video, it’s not the type of cut you would ever try and do on a real work piece. Thanks for your comments 👍🏻
