I want to live in a world where my incessant raving about Cubase isn't met with "it's too complicated". Updates like this get me closer.
I've been using Cubase since way before the VST era and consider myself pretty experienced, but it's a side gig/hobby for me so Dom is a very regular source of "holy shit I didn't know that" and I just want him to know I appreciate the hell out of him, and anyone reading this to know that I'm an old head and this dude still teaches me new shit regularly. Easily the best source of Cubase info on the internet, I sincerely hope Steinberg is paying you a salary. Mad respect brother
I love the step editor changes and new multi-part midi editing! The only thing I wish Cubase could adopt is the folder tracks being group channels so I can see folders, both expanded or closed in the mixer and be able to put inserts or sends onto "folder group channels". Maybe Cubase 14!
Great video! When I read the list of changes it sounded a bit underwhelming, but Dom's videos really emphasise the practical improvements and the real difference they make to your workflow.
Steinberg never dissapoints me with the Cubase updates but I think this update is one of the best in a long time. So much very well thought out improvements in this update! Superb work Steinberg...for real!! Also, superb video Dom!
Being able to easily view multiple midi channels and choose what you need to see and work with is so valuable. Fast fast fast! The vocal chain is very handy also. To simplify and make workflows quicker without compromising quality is awesome.
@@SoundPeaks because I had to assign the macros to a keycommand go through the menu options everytime I had to convert a mono to stereo or vice versa. Now it's just a button on the channel and track.
@@Mars_Monkey can you explain why do you convert? What is the goal? What are you trying to achieve? I mean I never do it and I never wanted to, what am I missing?
@@SoundPeaks Well, most of the time I like to switch certain drum sounds to mono so that they don't take up too much of the sound field and I like to control the sound field with mono to stereo plugins while mixing the arrangement. Mostly I like to do my bass in mono, and go further into the stereo field the higher the frequency, it keeps the mix down from sounding too muddy. When using plugins like Machine or Reason inside Cubase it always auto-creates stereo buses for the instrument tracks, now you can just switch those channels to mono automatically. Another reason it's good to have this functionality, if you're not using a plugin like Voxengo SPAN or other mid/side plugins, switching the main mix track to mono can help you get rid of any phase issues, making certain tracks in the mix disappear behind other sounds, it's good for mixing clarity. Overall, it was tedious having to open the rendering window anytime you needed to do so, now you just hit the button on the arranger Channel or mixer Track.
23:40 I think the Step CC recording its still useful because it "granular", which translates into an almost 100% accurate recording performance, instead of the Ramp option, which from here I can see it "softens" the performance. but yeah, its very good that they are available!

I was a Cubase user from 1990 on the Atari, and continued to use it on the PC from ‘99 to ‘02, then switched primarily to Logic when I bought a Mac. I’ve now returned to Cubase after a long time away and I’m finding your channel invaluable in relearning it!
Fantastic new features that I have wanted for some time: the updated range tool, "Tap your tempo" -function, the ability to Configure where playback starts to precisely match your workflow, and Quick channel change: change channel type from mono to stereo or vice versa with one click. Love it!
Thanks for your effort to show us those features! I downloaded 13P today and I noticed much faster project loading. So far this seems a great improvement. Looking forward to your in depth vids, nice work Dom🙏
Dom, Many thanks for all your tips!!! An other useful thing about Cubase 13 is the click on the mouse wheel allow to move where you want. And one more word and sorry for your ego, but you're simply the best pedagogue on Cubase and for so many other things.
For me personally: Dom is the Don of Cubase on YT! He helped me so much to learn about this fantastic and versatile daw. I really appreciate his lessons and if he ever offers a complete masterclass on udemy, I‘d be in for sure. Absolute Pro and always the guy you would wish for to sit next to while producing. 🙏
