Joe Furmick man honestly they missed out on a lot of money by not doing a trilogy. Like did his daughter really murder him or was he really just dreaming
I think this last scene is so good because it shows that even though he managed to escape from the cops, from his conscience even (maybe) but he will never escape his true punishment - the fear that his daughter is just like him.
And is that the truth in daughter-doer flag hump-er slippery unprotected puny Caligula of lust loot n lies w/touch for mayhem on all-things-minorities?
The moment where Demi Moore’s character tells Mr Brooks the reason she became a cop, I feel they both had a mutual respect for each other in a twisted way. Kinda like a father daughter type understanding. Mr Brooks admires her for her passion and perseverance despite the odds and Mr Brooks gives her life more purpose than anyone else has ever done. It almost feels like one day, Mr Brooks would’ve allowed the cop to eventually find him but would make her work for it.
Nope ... His daughter will kill him and then The daughter and the cop will face off and kill each other. A very Shakespearian End to the trilogy. Then the daughter's corpse gives birth to a lovely baby boy and the cycle never ends. The birth of Michael Myers and the curse of the thorn. hahahaha.
Kevin deserved at least an indication for this great job. The scene at the kitchen when he says "she has what I have" is amazing! First time I felt sorry for a murder.
This movie was unexpectedly good. This is one of the best uses of a popular song in a movie, in recent memory. I'm now looking forward to see what the director of the film does next.
Mr. Brooks didn't make noise @ the box office. I don't why. This is the best suspenseful movie I've ever seen. Unpredictable, beautifully written, casted, & performed. Love everything about it.
I think the film was great but I do agree with Critics in that they put in too many subplots along the way, the stuff with his daughter was unnecessary. They had plenty with just him being a serial killer and should have left it at that.
One of the most shocking things I've ever seen in a movie. It's not just the actual act of murder happening, it's the kind of childish, almost aloof, way that girl is watching her father bleed to death. When I saw this in theaters, I just pulled back in my seat and gasped, my eyes frozen wide and my mouth hanging open. The movie itself is okay, it has good parts and bad parts. But somehow, this ending just nailed it for me. It was perfect.
his daughter didnt really kill him. Him tucking his daughter in was a dream. the rest of the movie was real. The ending is so amazing because he will live in fear for the rest of his life that his daughter will do that. she obviously has what he has. so it is possible. 5 stars
Despite the critics, I really enjoyed this film. I enjoyed Costner and Hurt's chemistry throughout the film. It's a shame the world may never see a sequel with these two. The dream sequence could be an intriguing vehicle for the sequel. The daughter could definitely be a catalyst for said sequel. Oh well, c'est la vie.
@@joefur2835 Meh ... They can do plenty of magical wonders with CGI these days. No celebrity every has to die or age. Their digital selves can forever make movies to entertain the masses.
Honestly, the thing I think of when I see her reaction after stabbing her father in the neck is how like a venomous snake she acts. She knows she's gotten a lethal "strike" in, so she recoils and lets her prey succumb before finally taking what she wants.
I love the look on the detective, when she says "That wasn't Baffert", i can only imagine what is she thinking in that moment, something like "You son of a bitch..."
Unbelievable how this movie could not do better at the box office as well in the critics, they like crap like Avatar, Paranormal BS etc....how shallow can it get? As soon something has a bit complicated story, people seem to be irritated! Sad enough and an actually good sign how superficial people nowadays are! It is to me one of the best endings I've seen in a movie on top of a great movie!!
Hey don't diss Avatar, although I love this movie was proper annoyed when the sequel was cancelled. When you said complicated story you lost me there because this was extremely straightforward film to follow, try Predestination for a complicated one messed up great movie.
one thing i really liked about this film was how it seemed like you were watching the 2nd or 3rd part in a series. the characters, especially brooks and atwood, were fully worked out and they had their own pasts and backgrounds. thats seldom seen in Hollywood films nowadays. loved the film ^.^
- Why do you fight so hard Earl? Very good duddle. Great song. The movie remember me the Dexter series. Excellent movie and series both. This movie need a second part, a continuation. But i dough that is gonna happend.
This scene of dream is simply awesome and the song fits perfectly. I watched it so many times. What makes a good film great is ending. This one is excellent. There is nothing I would change.
A criminally underrated movie. And add to that the Veils-Vicious Traditions song. Perfectly incorporated into the movie. Obviously, you can't please everyone, yet I'm commenting years after first watching the movie. I'm sure that's the real goal, lasting impact on the viewer. To everyone involved, we'll done!
One of my faves i watched this again because i watched almost all thriller serial killer detective movies etc. Omg rich serial killer and his works are very clean omg
I don't believe Earl will kill his daughter he loves her too much. Marshall only said she might kill him so that the ending will make you believe it Wasn't a dream.
“That way we can like each other just for who we are...” Watched this movie four or five times, but there’s probably still some deft little moment I missed
Speaking with Jason Jenkins at Bloody Disgusting, Mr. Evans further elaborated on what the follow-ups might have entailed. "'Someone would have kidnapped his family, having no idea who they were dealing with,' Evans notes, pointing out that the kidnappers would not only be contending with the murderous Brooks, but his burgeoning psychopath of a daughter as well." Mr. Evans noted that Brooks' id Marshall would have returned, and have been "killed" by Brooks at some point in the second film, eventually being resurrected and returning “angrier and more perverse”. Furthermore, Mr. Evans revealed that the third film, which would have found Brooks and Jane at odds with one another, would have ended with Brooks killing both himself and his daughter, having realized that there is no hope for either of them

I think Jane’s character is more terrifying because she has a sweet angelic appearance but seeing the way she looks at her father bleeding out with a sense of fascination and also a slight sense of pleasure makes it more disturbing
I think they were trying to show Mr.Brooks psychosis, more than anything. "Why do you fight it so hard" refers to his drive to kill, I don't think his nightmares have anything to do with it, and as for the nightmares, its because he couldn't differentiate his daughter hiding the baby, and hiding a murder. If you ask me, she never did it.
And really. think about danielle panabaker (His daughter) Before this, all she did was disney movies. Seriously, this was her first non-disney one. and she did SUCH,and amazing job being insanely crazy in this scene. This is my favorite ending of any movie. Ive watched it about 10 times. Kevin costner did amazing too. Great movie, but very underrated,no-one gave it a chance.
I think a sequel called Mrs. Brooks with the daughter being the main character fighting with her inner demon the whole movie could be cool. But they would really have to make it as good as Mr. Brooks. This is an excellent movie and if they do a sequel poorly, it'll cheapen this one
Thats because the ending was a shocking moment....you didn't expect it. Daddy wants to keep loving his little girl....and not see her turn into a serial killer like he is...
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference. Remember Marshall nor Earl was never wrong during the entire movie. She is a spawn of him and i assume is going to play a big part in the coming movies.
Brooks is Troubled by nightmares... the only thing that calms his nightmares (and creates them) is murdering. Thats why Marshall says that in the end, Not to foreshadow him killing his beloved daughter.
only the thing that he is killed by is daughter is "oh its just a dream" sequence. It shows that he is afraid that his daughter will become something like him. The rest is "true"
the reason they revealed in to be a dream is that they are planning to make this the first movie in a trilogy and if he was dead then obviously the trilogy wouldnt exist
The thing about Mr. Brooks is that, as much as he won't admit it, he's far worse than Marshall. See, Earl claims that he hates to kill, that he's an addict and wants to quit. Yet, when faced with the perfect out, the chance to quit, he didn't take it. Instead, he led his partner on, and then brutally killed him. He relished in it, too. The way he smugly laid out his plan to Mr. Smith/Baffert, the way he toyed with his prey who helplessly tried to shoot him. You can tell that Marshall wasn't Earl's inner demon, but rather, a character that Earl created to cope with the idea of him being evil. This way, he can say, "I'm not the sadistic monster, it's Marshall!!" But when we see him smiling as he explains to Smith/Baffert what he's going to do to him, when we see him dance after killing the couple at the beginning of the movie amidst their intercourse, when we watch him and Marshall share a hearty laugh after considering the idea of Smith dying in a wreck... We can see just how sadistic Earl really is, not just Marshall.
In reality, he was literally on a building that was directly in front of her. I’m a resident of Shreveport and know exactly where both those buildings are and they’re on the same street
I was watching this with my mom (don't ask me why)and when he was going to the daughter's room I was like,"Wouldn't that suck if she killed him?" When he was dying she was like,"It has to be a dream." -We were both right-
sorry, putting on the glasses and keeping that ending would've been too cliche. she'd have been caught and everything he represented as a family man would've died with him, including her relevence.
The thing is that this dream shows what he is afraid of. In fact, I am not sure if she is insane as well as he is. All of this could be just his imagination. The other thing- there would be no way to hush up that kind of kill. She would get caught, surely.
What I take away from his praying is that, due to them showing this is a sort of ritual of resistance against his darker urges, that his daughters time is up. He will not allow her to kill him or his wife.
The way I perceived this ending was that he finally got out of the "business" (hence him dying in the dream) like he wanted to but regrets that his daughter has the same addiction as him and will inevitibly take over the "family business"(putting on his glasses in the dream)
This movie is amazing. Period. The ending was pure genious. I think the ending has alot more to what most people think. Only the genious who wrote the script can really describe the meaning. Absolutely dw. One better is the ending to unhinged with female version of don't fear the reaper
This movie is a damn masterpiece! I just watched it again last night. I wish they had made the trilogy they had planned.
I think it’s Costner’s best movie honestly. And I really like Dances with Wolves and Field of Dreams. But this movie is on a whole different level.

What’s most intriguing is we never know for sure if Jane is a serial killer or if Earl’s suspicions are his own groundless paranoia.
