    You had the same ideal as me brotha. I fixed several seats with this method.

    Better to use that upholstery foam in the background, cut around the areas of damaged foam so it has straight edges and replace with new. Then warm the vinyl in the sun and stretch it over the repaired foam using a hair dryer. Expanding foam won't give until it collapses and doesn't retain a good memory.

      Upholstery foam is not nearly rigid enough. But I don’t think this is the right material either. I’ve tried to Upholstery and it’s basically like sitting on the seat without any foam

    Good work! Got one with just plastic left. Foamed the whole thing and after it dried it shaped it down and now looks brand new.

    Thanks for sharing mate, gives one the perseverance that is required to pull things off, from a seadoo seat re-cover to a classic whatever one’s got

    only problem i can see with this is spray foam is rigid, and not very springy. once it is crushed, it will be lower in that spot. i usually use old couch cushion foam to refoam seats. the foam anti fatigue floor mats are a good source of cheap, denser foam for places when you need more support, and less squish.

      So how do you attach those foams to the seat? I need to do something similar on a bike I got

    • @handyhippie6548
      @handyhippie6548 Год назад +1

      @@carminecarlone2869 i use 3m spray glue. just follow the instructions on the can. you can find cheaper spray glue, but since it is something you only want to do once, it's worth using the best. an old electric carving knife is the easiest way to shape the foam.

    My mom and I recovered the seats on my SXS about 7-8 years ago with marine grade vinyl and thread 🧵 but last summer the thread started coming apart once it started sitting in the weather more , that plus my big dogs 80lbs & 120lbs started to sit in the seats.

    In the case of my Seadoo seat, with a lateral crack across the seat foam but no actual gaps…that a spray adhesive would be better than a spray foam as there is no gap to fill.

    Nice work, what kind of spray foam would you recommend? I restored several seats, but they had no deep holes, so I shaved them down and upholstered them with a layer of thin foam. Also you didn't use glue for the vinyl before stapling. I will definitely try this the next time, too. Thanks for your input 😁

      Yes never glue the vinyl- It needs to move to stretch to fit

    Does the spray foam have some softness to it? Just wondering if you notice any difference between the 2 foams. Thanks. Nice video

      Oh absolutely!- Its not touring bike soft though. Its the best Ive found for the job. Its fine for MX Enduro and farm quads. Ive done these repairs for decades now and never had a complaint

    The spray foams that I've tried dry hard and if you compress it, it stays compressed with no rebound. Is the spray foam that you used more compliant?

  • @davidedala4739
    @davidedala4739 3 месяца назад

    I think u made a mistake because that type of foam doesn't go back to the original shape once is compressed..

  • @999benhonda

    To those saying the spray foam will be hard, that is true of every brand ive ever used...however, the hard ones can't be cut that easy with a knife. That brand he uses must be a different formula

    Great video but not Great job
    You could do a top stitch on the back and put another layer of padding to disguise the foam repair !!
    Also all depends how much did $ changed 🤔..
    I considered that too 🤫

      Whaaaaat!?- it feels just as it should- I explained that this particular brand of foam is perfect for the job!
      If I was doing a crap job people would not bring me seats every week! sheesh! give people a keyboard and they become instant experts! lol.

      I think what he means ,at least here in the States,is the only expanding foam is rigid. If I could find expanding soft foam,I'd be ecstatic.
