Iam 70 years old and always wanted to learn how to do upholstery work have several uncle and aunts that have done it for years but wouldn't show you anything ,but my mother showed me how to use her old Singer1922 model 66 but thanks for your vision you ate a Master
I think I need to drive to wherever William is to have him fix my car seats! I would have given up on that seat in a heartbeat- to see it repaired was fantastic! It is amazing to watch a master work. (The accent is a bonus)
I watched a guy recover a BMW Z3 seat and he didn't do too bad, but boy, the steamer would have made all the difference in the world! Thanks for the video. Nicely done!
Thank you for showing things you know. I'm at a Tennessee R R museum . Redoing train seats. I'm 67 yrs old, just started doing this 4 yrs ago. Thank you again.
The upholstery mystery has been unlocked. Now it's down to the local big box upholstery stores to squeeze some foam...hahaha! Thanks for the motivation and knowledge to try and tackle this on my own.
Hello William, Wow, it's so easy to restore your seat cushions! They showed you the simplest ways to get it repaired. I'm excited! Thank you for the great video, now I dare to restore my vintage car seats by myself. Best regards Klaus from Düsseldorf / Germany
Great video, i’ve been struggling with some seat foam damage on a 77 MGB, your video is going to be extremely helpful. Thank you for taking the time to show us how a master does it.
Honda seats are notorious for that left edge getting warn down. I took apart a seat I got from Pick a Part just to see what it was like to take one apart, before I messed with mine. I really needed your video to feel comfortable doing it. It's exactly what I needed to see. If I may ask.. What is the type of foam you used for that left side? I want to replace the left side, however, wouldn't mind going a little stiffer than stock. This is for a 2008 Civic Si. I also have 2015 Camaro SS seats I will be doing the same thing in. Thanks much!
I have a Dodge Dakota 06 driver's side seat needs some love, don't know if I'm going to fix it or take it somewhere, I do body and paint not upholstery ! That with many other trades are dying, no one wants to learn
Merry Christmas William and Billie Jo ! 🎄❤ We wanted to let you know we are thinking about y'all and hoping you have a safe, warm, and beautiful Christmas as we celebrate our Lord Jesus's birth. May God bless your entire family 🙏 Love from New Mexico 🌈 Dave and Cher
any advise on reupholstering a 1951 ford victoria, used cotton batting filler, 1/2 inch foam folded . front seats have two fold forward seat-backs. my apologies on correct wording of materials or parts. New at this kind of project. I do have pictures to show if your able to help this newby. I appreciate any advise on this. the seats do have buttons to add, tufting slightly due to not having the thicker foam. should of understood that process before starting.
Really enjoyed watching this video William, watching the master at his work, although l was actually looking for an update on the health of Lilly! God bless you and your mom!💞
William I just found your channel and subscribed. I am trying to learn and I appreciate you posting this good stuff. Once the foam has been steamed will the foam hold its position for long, or will it soon go back to the worn down position? Thanks, Phillip Hall
If the foam is dead steam want revised it. But if it blows it back to it's original shape then it should. The cover shrinkage usually compresses the foam. It a good idea to steam it .& thanks for watching and picking up on doing this type work.
William I have a question. Can I get kerosene out of my seat that has soaked it up till it is almost up to the head rest? I was hauling a heater and was not aware it was leaking kerosene all over the seat and back floor..😢it’s a 2010 Chevy Silverado
Kerosene is oily fuel, I would try a spray bottle with dawn dish soap, keep in mind, it don't take a lot. it will break the kerosene down and take a shop vac and pull the water back out it will also take the fuel out. pump up sprayer works well also for this process. hope this helps.
The cheese cutter will cut the foam over time, and the frame is sharp. Some times I smooth the edges on the frame and glue some leather on the raw edge helps.
You can try a vacuum cleaner and resolve carpet cleaner and pull it out. Also you can put a stack of baby wipes on the spill and the wipes will grow it up into the wipes. Just place something on top to hold the wipes down. Hope this helps
It's cheaper to just buy a new molded foam seat insert. eBay has them. Plus it's not like one can buy foam at MICHAELS that is made for auto seats.Again eBay sellers have your SUV seat foam molded for you're year make and model.
It's also cheaper to buy a steak from the grocery store than go to longhorns. Buying foam on ebay is fine if it fits your vehicle, this video is for training purposes ,to teach a viewer how to repair the foam in a seat.
Haha. This popped up on my feed. Can't hear it, too loud here. But here's what you need to know. It ain't rocket surgery. Go at it with a hacksaw blade, cut that crappy foam out, get a new chunk of foam and a cann of spray glue...stuff it in there and shape it a bit. Bob's your uncle! Getting a good cover or stitching one together is the real work. The foam is the easy part.. while you're in there may as well add heat pads! Now do your motorcycle too!
Im learning. We all need your skills and these kind of workmanship. All the best from Sweden.

Thank you for sharing your trade
Your very welcome.
Very nice make upholstery seat car elegance and rill modification good jobb
Kids cushion was mush. I swapped seat bottom from pass side on donor car. Easy peezy cost $25
Seems like it would be easier to remake the base than to repair it ? Am I right ?
The steamer isn't something most people would have at home. What else would you suggest that might work?
You can use a smaller hand held steamer, may take a little longer but will work the same.
interessante video, bravissimo e complimenti, Pietro da Palermo.

Never seen it being done I was hoping to do my seats nothing wrong with them just want it to fit nicer on my backside lol
Ha-ha...... @ 27:50 puttin' on that leather makes you the SHOP STEWARD !! 🤣🤣
What grit sand paper are you using?
What kind of glue? Is it just contact cement? Im getting ready to Frankenstein some Tahoe seats together.
any difference in white or brown or any color foam for that matter

What instrument do you use to cut sponge?
Great stuff
Thanks Chris
Good job there but if you put on some mask you'll safe your lungs from any bad fumes; keep well

Do you ever put burlap or canvas on the bottom of the foam bun? So it don’t rip out anymore?
Most of the time, I try and use something to reinforce the foam.
@@williamhall749 so the frame don’t cut into the foam. That cheese slicer spring system that’s in these seats aren’t with a dang.
The cheese cutter will cut the foam over time, and the frame is sharp. Some times I smooth the edges on the frame and glue some leather on the raw edge helps.
@@williamhall749 absolutely it helps. My dad opened his shop in 1967. I been doing upholstery for 35 years.
could I use liquid contact cement instead of spray glue?
Yes you can use a brush to apply contact cement on both sides. Then press together.
What kind of glue
Nice !
Awesome
Thanks for viewing this channel.
