I am sure that’s the way it was done back when new, except for the 1850 black foam. In my mid 60’s, I still enjoy learning yet I do admit that two buckets seats modified to suit me, are in the near future. Thanks kindly for sharing and I enjoyed the burlap. As for “Horse Hair” used in seats, yes! Horse hair used in plaster & lath walls, I laugh thinking the a lot of naked horses were everywhere! DK, Omaha. ASE Master Tech 78. Building mine now…
Way back when - A and E had a show - Furniture to go. I loved watching that show - it was so relaxing. Your upholstery videos do the same. Pretty impressive and beautiful work for just throwing something together. It was funny to see Lux show-up in the box - I was surprised he stay'd in it.
Thanks for showing the follow-up video on upholstering the seat. Like the back of the seat, it looks fantastic. These videos illustrate why custom cars are expensive. Your work is too quality. I’ll be eager to see the installation. Thanks for sharing your expertise.
Lee the seat looks great! I agree with you about late model seats in classic cars, it absolutely ruins them. I passed on buying an otherwise really nice car because someone put late model buckets in it and had tossed the original bench seat 🤦♂️ Don’t do it, it looks like dog 💩 Don’t toss your original bench if you do put buckets in. Finding another is a huge pain.
Great job with the tutorial! I've been a tech for 41 years and I'm about to hang up my wrenches and store away my lab scopes in December for good. I'm a newbie upholsterer that started dabbling in upholstery when the covid thing started, not knowing how my repair business was going to fare. I have absolutely no idea how I accomplished finishing a complete upholstery overhaul in my first job pretty much by myself. With zero experience and never sewing a stitch before, I asked my client if I could use his 1962 Galaxie as a guinea pig. He said yes when I told him that if I effed it up I would pay to have it done properly. Well 6 months later it was complete and looks awesome. I did everything from the headliner to the visors, carpet, door panels, package tray and seats. Everything. Next one was a 1974 LeSabre drop top. Again, a complete overhaul less the top. I glassed the cracked up dash and covered it with closed cell foam and then heated and stretched the vinyl to cover it. What a beatch!! But he is extremely happy being that it's a weekend driver and somewhat show car. I'm doing a 36 ft. WellCraft boat as of now and it's going well. Enough self adulation and digressing from my original intent for my comment and question. How much should I charge for a seat covering like you did with your car? Labor only. How about a bucket seat, each with no real custom design? And how about a bench seat with a leaner in the middle? Thanks in advance for any input you can offer.
Brilliant. And your so right when you see a car or truck with modern seats never looks good. Especially high backs and headrests. Still haven’t had ago but have bought a second hand sofa that needs covering so I’ll have a practice on that. Cheers from England. Tim. Lux is superb👌
I paid $3 for mine turkey electric turkey cutter knife at the second hand store I don't think it ever been used it even came with a nice case it's kind of funny it was probably from the '80s cuz it's that weird white plastic with wood grain I've had it for like 25 years now still working great
A video so nice, I wish I could like it twice! I need to make seat covers for my '50 Styleline, but I wasn't sure how to make my own patterns. What a great tutorial!
Dude!!! 10k!!!! Great video!!!! I learned a lot!!! Thanks!!! More of the kid Helping!!! 50k next time!!! people till your friends!!! Your videos are educational!!!! Not like the drama queens!!! Just saying!!!✌️
Excellent videos! The presentation was really great, informative and clear. One suggestion would be to give a list of the materials that you use and the sources. Thanks!
Hi I have the same car that need the rear seat done although it has the original material on it, I hope to get some good information. As for the package tray mine has some kind of formed plastic that was covered. Did you do a video on the quarter window regulators? They are quite unique!
I’m not sure what brand they are. I bought them at Sawyer Sewing here in Victoria for $37 over 6 years ago now. I’ve done absolutely nothing to keep them sharp except occasionally drop them on the floor or spray glue on them 😆
I have no idea what brand mine are. They were just in the upholstery supply catalog haha. I’ve used many different brands over the years, and they all pretty much work the same
This material is Naugahyde vinyl. But there are literally thousands of different kinds of materials to suit your styles and taste. The seat foundation is made from burlap, 1/2” Jute underlay and 1” 1890 density foam.

High speed baby playing in a box is pretty entertaining ha
I love how you explain everything. The seat looks wonderful and what a great color combo! BTW...Nothing like 'baby in a box' to keep you entertained.
After watching both segments of the video I learned a lot and understand why some covers are expensive.
Yup! It’s not exactly a 5 minute job haha
Im an upholsterer as well and this video was a pleasure to watch!!
Thanks
Lee I agree the original style looks so much better in the older cars excellent job Mike

I’m eager to see it installed too!
Lee, I have a 46 Super Dlx 2-door. The seats need the same work, love what you did to your's. Stay safe regards to the family. 😊
As usual. a job well done. The rear seat finally got some style and will be appreciated by Lux and Doris for sure.
Doris just loves tuck and roll upholstery!
my favorite Robt. Williams art piece on the wall
Pretty sure i got that out of Thrasher magazine like 20 years ago

My first shoebox had no front seat. I ended up buying another car just to get the seat frame from it
Great job with the tutorial!

I'm an upholsterer too but I really enjoy watching other upholsterers work and at the same time learning new things.
Thank's!!
Thanks for watching!
Sweet, your second half of this series I've been hoping for. Cheers man

Awesome video! Come to Arizona and help with my old truck! It’s really nice in winter when Canada is cold…:)
I could be in to that if you pay my shop rate plus a spot to park my trailer!
Not gonna say no……. It would make a cool video too.
Thanks Lee good info.
Nice job Lee
Thanks
I'm some schmuck who's planning on doing the interior of his 51 DeSoto himself. Appreciate the tidbits and info. 😉

Really well done. Might even attempt it on my '47 !
Go for it!
Awesome video you make it look so easy lol 🛠️🇨🇦🛠️🇨🇦
Excellent videos! The presentation was really great, informative and clear. One suggestion would be to give a list of the materials that you use and the sources. Thanks!
I thought I mentioned the materials as I went along. I buy from various upholstery wholesale suppliers who import it all from the states.
Hi: You did in fact mention the materials as you went along
but I was asking for some sort of list of the materials and the sources. @@LGKustoms
very helpful. I thought you could glue fabric around foam edge so hog ring didn't tear.thanks
Dig the Southern Culture on the Skids poster...
Plastic seat cover sweat seemed fitting for the upholstery room haha
Cool man! Oh didn’t use a heat gun at all to smooth out any bumps? That’s impressive!
Hi I have the same car that need the rear seat done although it has the original material on it, I hope to get some good information. As for the package tray mine has some kind of formed plastic that was covered. Did you do a video on the quarter window regulators? They are quite unique!
No I haven’t done a video on the windows. I’m assuming you’re referring to how they roll back as well as rolling down?
Did you use the same foam.on the cushion? Really enjoyed watching the video.
All new foam on the cushion. The original was long gone
I see you cutting lots of material with those scissors and wonder what brand they are and how you keep them sharp.
I’m not sure what brand they are. I bought them at Sawyer Sewing here in Victoria for $37 over 6 years ago now. I’ve done absolutely nothing to keep them sharp except occasionally drop them on the floor or spray glue on them 😆
😂
Thanks! Hey does that machine have a walking foot?
Yes it does
@@LGKustoms ok thanks. I think that's what is making it hard on mine is that it doesnt have a walking foot.
Don't know if you'll read this but what model singer do you use. Watching for South Australia
It’s a singer 111G156
Kool 😎
What hog ring pliers do you prefer?
I have no idea what brand mine are. They were just in the upholstery supply catalog haha.
I’ve used many different brands over the years, and they all pretty much work the same
How can I contact you ? I am in Victoria!
I cant seem to find 1890 density 1 “ foam you described. Do you have a vendor for it you could share?
I buy it from KB Fabrics in Surrey BC
Do the wrinkles in the plastic pose any problems for the dimensions? Thanks
You want the plastic to be wrinkle free in the area you’re patterning.
Hi! Do you have a link to where you ordered that seat foam?
I order my foam from KB Fabrics in Surrey BC. Im not sure if they have a website, I just call them like it’s 1999.
Good day. Are you in CA? At the Roadster Show?
Unfortunately no, not this year
Can you tell materials so I can try

@@LGKustoms thanks I've always wanted to learn how to dov upholstery
Can you Tell me roughly how many yards i would need please for top and bottom
I want to redo my seats but I'm worried about the smell of the glue
In the automotive industry the glue smell is referred to as “new car smell”.
Where you located?
Join found it :Victoria BC, I’m in Toronto Ontario 🇨🇦😊
Yup, Victoria!

Great videos boss, I could use a few more of these, thanks for sharing, and you don't sound like a dick either. take care.
That "Supervisor" was keeping a close eye on you. I don't think he had to because you seem very capable. Thanks for the video.
