I in a unique way his father was always there because of his father's high school records. Ray chasing his father's records was him chasing his father's love.

The first step to breaking that cycle is by forgiving your father

I can relate to this somewhat. I grew up poor, my dad had to move up to another country and I've never had a dad-son type of relationship with him. It's what it is tho, once I got over 20 years of age, I kinda got over it. To clarify further, we have a pretty good relationship right now. Life's too short to dwell on the past and I actually realized my dad is kind of a mirror image of me and we're very much alike.

Ray is lucky to have his father back in his life. I wish I can that. My father left me when I was 12. He decided to keep on drinking then love me. Now I’m 27, still bitter and angry to this day. I guess I’ll never get that special bond like everyone else has. Im just not loved, or cared by anyone. I’m just a lonely 27 year old working a hood job and living alone isolated most of the time. I just want to feel loved for once by someone. I guess I’ll never get that chance

Those 2 had an hour long conversation 2 days prior to the Ravens Monday Night Game against Cincinnati to kick off the 2012 season following the death of Art Modell. Lewis told Nichols, "There is no Baltimore Ravens, if there's not a Mr Modell's vision. That vision changed not only my life, but my teammates for the better."
