BEST Mike Linebacker of all time. Built the Bank to what it is now. Forever the leader of the old Flock, and single handily the most important player in Baltimore sports
You cant overstate how much of a leader he was. The year he came into the league was the same year the ravens formed, the team that turned into the ravens had the 3rd worst record in the league. Ray lewis came into the league as a rookie and successfully reorganized the team's defense. In 1996 ravens allowed 441 points, the next year they cut that down to 345. He was a sweetheart that looked after his teammates and despite always being the best player by far, he never allowed individual accolades to overshadow teamwork. When he decided to stay with the ravens, he stayed because he realized that his leadership was the difference between a struggling team and a championship contender. He chose to stay with the team he built up from scratch and won another Super Bowl because of it.
You used to see it in hockey alot, like Rod Gilbert and the NY Rangers; occasionally in baseball. But in modern football you don't see a guy passing up the big bucks and gimme championship for TEAM AND CITY LOYALTY. Ray is a throwback to the old school. A balls to the wall true grit kind of guy
It’s not often you can say that you’re excited to see defence but Ray and his Ravens were the exception to that. That unit in 2000 didn’t simply stifle offences as other good defences do, it dismantled them. Good offences that not only were going 3-and-out repeatedly, but often losing yards in the process. Brutal and brilliant.
As soon he announced he was retiring I knew it was over. I put money on them winning it all after that announcement. There was absolutely no way in hell they weren't gonna win it all. There was no way he wasn't gonna do everything possible but even more there was no way in hell that team wasn't gonna send him home a winner. One of the extremely few times in my life I knew with 100% certainty who was gonna win it all.

The last time Hunter and Zadarius were both healthy for a full season they were 1st and 2md in QB pressures in the NFL. I really wa t to see what Irv Smith can do to. Watching this before our game against the rams today. What a great era to grow up watching the ravens! Or I guess the only era since they were convinced in 96 lol
Putting aside any controversies or drama, the Ravens were lucky to draft a player who was the complete package. Although not a expansion team per se (the Ravens were the OG Browns, just that they had to leave the team's colors, history, and records behind), Lewis was the right person to arrive at the right time. Lewis was a natural leader, and had the talent to inspire those around him, which is what the Ravens needed to build their new identity. You could not have asked for someone better to lead a fledgling defensive unit.
Greatest middle linebacker of all time but second greatest linebacker of all time next Lawrence Taylor cuz they both were scary and they love to hit people
Simply the greatest linebacker ever to play the game. He defined the position, and he motivated/elevated every player on the field with him. No linebacker has ever been as influential to his team than Ray Lewis was to the Ravens.
I'm from Baltimore and I'll tell you he is more than a football player he is an inspiration to everyone here of what it means to work hard and give your all. He speaks like a preacher but hits like Bobby Boucher.
There was one man in the NFL who didn't fear getting hit by Ray Lewis. It was so awesome to see. To see the hardest hitting player in the NFL going up against the hardest person to hit in the NFL Pittsburgh Steelers Jerome Bettis the Bus 🚌 #36. This was a clash of titans. And even Ray Lewis said himself this was the hardest guy he had to tackle. And Jerome Bettis when he saw him He didn't try to avoid him he took him head on.

BEST Mike Linebacker of all time. Built the Bank to what it is now. Forever the leader of the old Flock, and single handily the most important player in Baltimore sports
Middle
@@nickyoder16 that’s what Mike stands for you rock
I work and study in Baltimore and we still know him as a legend
Ray was a straight up killer……. on the field.
@@tfromcali89 it was ruled self defense
@@tfromcali89 it’s a pretty good joke
@@tfromcali89 well….he was in a bar fight that resulted in a stabbing
What happened to the white suit Ray?
Fucking classic
You used to see it in hockey alot, like Rod Gilbert and the NY Rangers; occasionally in baseball. But in modern football you don't see a guy passing up the big bucks and gimme championship for TEAM AND CITY LOYALTY.
Ray is a throwback to the old school. A balls to the wall true grit kind of guy
Thanks for taking a stab at this. Really killed it.
Outta pocket 😂
Best comment.
😂
I c wot u did Dere 😉
@K show me Patrick Willis with 2 rings and much harder hits
It’s not often you can say that you’re excited to see defence but Ray and his Ravens were the exception to that. That unit in 2000 didn’t simply stifle offences as other good defences do, it dismantled them. Good offences that not only were going 3-and-out repeatedly, but often losing yards in the process. Brutal and brilliant.
9:00 no one who wasn't a Ravens fan that year can describe what a magical feeling that year was.
Nothing will ever top it.
It was like.... divine.
@@gsactotube you sound like an eye witness who has been praying for justice to served
Just one guy. A middle linebacker, had so much impact on the game. Killah
RAY LEWIS IS THE ONLY REASON WHY A GUY FROM HAWAII LOVES THE BALTIMORE RAVENS
Still gives me chills. He dominated in every metric, and even in heart which how do you measure it...
Even someone who doesn’t like the ravens has to admit that ray leeis is a beast and amazing
I don't like the Ravens or The Steelers but give me Jack Lambert any day
@@AlwaysHalloween000 not a steelers fan yet you on this video trashing Ray by constantly bringing up Lambert.
Also you have comment on Steelers vids praising steelers playerlol
10 years later he is STILL the heart and soul of that team. I see the purple and black pants and still think Ray Lewis.I can't describe it.
2:30
Two literal GOATs in a row lmao. One single round. The first of the franchises history.
Amazing man
Insane how the Ravens were able to get a Lombardi in their first 4 years of existence…built possibly the best defense ever in 4 seasons lol
Ravens then: dominant defensive team with a will to play
Ravens now: Greg Roman go brrrrr
Not even a ravens fan but I love watching ray hit stick players. Dude was a monster
Dude was a killer. What a beast!
You got that right... in Atlanta.
Since I was a kid witnessing him play! Never been more excited when I saw him play!
Hes by far the greatest Middle Linebacker to ever play. Could he cover some ground in the middle of the field. The closest thing I saw to him was maybe a prime Patrick Willis. Bit that's more of a run stopping side line to sideline comparison than anything else. Lewis may be the best defensive player to ever play. I'm a Minnesota Vikings fan, but I'd have to say he is the best defender ever.
bullshit
@@kylepalmer8730 Not bullshit it’s pretty much a landslide. No other defensive player was as important to a franchise as Ray.
Agree but as far as dbs? Ronnie Lott played in Ray's style take no prisoners. Ronnie played both the run and pass in spectacular fashion.
Skoal baby!!! This our year in our division! Eskitit
@@tyronelovick8421 it better be. I still think we made a mistake not hiring Harbaugh. I hope KOC proves me wrong. If Zadarius can get back to his form from 2 years ago and both him and Daniel stay healthy this year then our defense will be a serious problem for any one. The last time Hunter and Zadarius were both healthy for a full season they were 1st and 2md in QB pressures in the NFL. I really wa t to see what Irv Smith can do to. Hopefully he's ready to go week 1. I also think we should start using Kene Nwangou the sake way the Falcons use Cordarrelle or the 49ers used Debo. We have a lot of talent on both sides of the ball and should be one of the 4 best teams in the NFC. SKOAL !!!!!!!!!
Pats fan here. Ray is my favorite linebacker of all time and going to battle against that defense in its prime was some of the best football I’ve ever watched. I loved that old rivalry.
He murdered the opposition.
Would love to see one of these on Steve young. To this day still my fav QB all time.
Do Patrick Willis next
what a legend
Even as a lifer Steelers fan, I have to give it up for Ray. Where I would have loved to have him on out team. Ray being on the Ravens, along the likes of Reed and Suggs, Made that era one of the best rivalries between Ravens, and Steelers the best in sports. Man those games were always intense.
Watching this before our game against the rams today. What a great era to grow up watching the ravens! Or I guess the only era since they were convinced in 96 lol
Conceived* totally not being a grammar Nazi. Just helping out haha
The best defensive player of all time. Won 2 super bowls and never had a legit offense. Even in his late 30s, was near the ball every down.
One of my favorite players ever. Absolute beast.
Best MLB to ever Play the game!
I saw him play many times in person. And it was some of the most electrifying football I’ve ever seen.
God bless you guys Always keep God first
I'm from Baltimore and I'll tell you he is more than a football player he is an inspiration to everyone here of what it means to work hard and give your all.
No Eddie George didn’t fear Ray 💯
“You’re too small to be a linebacker”
*turns into top 3 ever
I'll always love players like him. Technically and fundamentally immaculate, but also plays like an absolute wild animal. It's a rare and freaky combination.
Not my favorite Linebacker but he is one of the best
The 2000 ravens defense was insane. Hands down the greatest defense to ever play. Watching that defense play was beautiful. There will never be a linebacker in the league like Ray Lewis.
Imagine being lined up against him in his prime? Terrifying!
I will never forget watching Ray and Ed play together it was a thrill each and every week.
Ray Lewis is one of the greatest defensive players of all time..sadly a lot of ppl look at him at as a murderer .
Ray was the ringleader of a murderous gang. He would have fired his bodyguards had they not stabbed those two men. Basically, it's called conspiracy to commit murder. Ray did not stab anyone.
