Rumor has it that, after his retirement, Arvydas split his game into three parts: he gave Jokic his passing, Dirk his shooting, and Embiid his legs

    As a European 🇪🇺:
A young Sabonis was like Jokic with not quite as good court vision but taller WAY MORE ATHLETIC and obviously a better defender (Jokic isn't bad, but Arvydas in his prime was avarging like 5 blocks per game so I believe he would have made an all defence team) he was also better in the post.
He could have been a a top 5 center ever 🥲
USSR did him dirty (btw Nikos Galis was arguably outplaying him in the EuroBasket, he deserves a video too. He is pretty underrated (obviously because didn't play in the NBA), same with Oscar Schmitt)

Sabonis had a complete package. He could run, dunk and crash boards like a young Shaq, his court vision and passing skill was amazing and you could compare him to prime Bill Walton or Larry Bird. He could make hook shots in the post and 3 pointers from outside. He also was great defender. One of the greatest centers in all of basketball.

Portland is so damn unlucky. Imagine if they got prime sabonis when they were supposed to. Sabonis would have been on those Drexler led teams that already went to the finals. The only hole they had was at center. That's potentially a 90's Blazers dynasty. That would change mj's legacy drastically.
What was lost in that description of 2000 wcf game 7 was the obvious ref job for the lakers. Sabonis could not do any thing to shaq the whole series or it would be a foul. Sabonis never got in foul trouble yet magically, the one person that could guard shaq, was fouling out. HMMMM

He was so good, that very few realize this. Stop telling, he would be top 5 center of all time, cause if he would come to NBA before and avoided injuries , he'd become GOAT or at least top 5 player of all time. Arvydas had tremendous passion and love for the game so officials/coaches exploited him for their needs, to the point his legs were completely destroyed. After such Achilles injuries he has suffered, athletes were done with their careers at that time. Yet Arvydas was still best player in Europe because of his skills, despite loosing all of his exceptional athleticism, almost not running or jumping anymore.
And Gomelsky could not stop him from playing in the NBA, just nobody from ussr could play professionaly abroad until 1989, when ussr started to collapse. Marciulionis went to NBA, Sabas to Spain. We have seen what he's capable of , despite all the injuries, when he came to NBA 31 years old. I think if he would come to Portland in 1989 , when he was 25, no one would have doubt he is top 5 center of all time, despite being the shell of himself in around 1985 before injuries...

Even though I'm fully confident in sabonises ability to dominate the NBA I'm happy he was able to dominate the Euro League and get paid a couple a million along the way

The guy is a God in Lithuania, so I know quite a bit about him. So the vid is quite inaccurate, 1st time in my life that I heard about him being "devoted" to gomelsky or that he "wanted" to play while injured. The actual reasons: He wasnt let go to NBA and he was ordered by SSRS to play or else. When SSRS finally fell and he was pretty much in a wheel chair, he lost all confidence in his ability to play. Then him going to Spain, recovering, winning everything in EU led him to finally decide to go to NBA at 31.
