Out of the whole series, Diablo 1 still has my favorite soundtrack. The guitar-struck tunes are moody, and eerily atmospheric; it comes complete with an ominous and foreboding tone that harbors towards the grungy side at same time.
"I can see what you see not, Vision milky then eyes rot, When you turn they will be gone, Whispering their hidden song, Then you see what cannot be, Shadow move where light should be, Out of darkness out of mind, Cast down into the halls of the blind." The very 1st poem i learned in my childhood.
This was my favorite music in diablo 1! I played it a ton, and got all my friends into it. I love the electric guitar in the music. First time i ever heard an electric guitar in a game music. Love it, and i love this game, diablo 1 beat all the others!
It goes without saying that the music and ambient sound of this game is legendary. I had to force myself to make it through the dungeon level since I was so terrified of it as a child. The minute I heard this music I couldn't go any further. Finally managed to conquer my fear later, but bloody hell this game was scary.
High school me, playing Diablo in 1997, in the dead of night, in the dark *totally* wasn't scared to bejeezus and back. Seriously though, those shadow demons were terrifying...
2:06 onward is one of my favorite pieces of music that Blizzard has ever written - after the opening with the drums beats and guitar riffs, it then slows down to an ominous tune followed by indistinct voices and moans. It's like you've just heroically marched down from the final level of the dungeon after cleansing it of lesser demons, only to be met by silence and darkness which seem to say, "that was just the beginning."
Yeah, this part sounds like "Dark Fantasy" to me. That kind of unspeakable horror, the evils that come from the kind of darkness that light has never penetrated. That terrifying silence you're talking about. It's so good bruh
Those laughs... those terrible laughs... Just those scary evil laughs in the ambient background on top with the already dark and chilly atmosphere ... that was the shit that scared the shit out of us when we were young and entering this place for the first time !!!
CwalkDarkBoy I imagine them has choirs from succubus singing lullaby to the diablo who was possessing the child Albrecht that's the reason why diablo was locked in a room Lazarus took precautions that no one can interfere during the possession he placed the guards near the levers and around the kid that's why you find so many monsters when you encounter diablo also this the reason why diablo was defeated by just mere weapons we fight him few mins after he possesses the child and kill him before he gets to his prime
2:09 This part always made me think of disgusting, rotting, stone walls. Such horribly, decrepit death in every corner. So foul and dry that you choke.
The guitar riffs, the horns, the bongo like hollow drums, the voices, it all reminds me of some ancient ruin. This place will always remind me of goatmen and fat demons. The sense of exploration mixed with a genuine reluctance to see what was around the corner really sold this place, even for way back when. It'll always stick with me, somewhere in my memories.
The way the confident and adventurous beginning just unexpectedly fades out into fear and terror and madness is so good. Like all of a sudden you realize you're lost in the dark, surrounded by demons, and completely screwed. I feel like it actively tricks you into thinking it'll just loop back to the beginning before it drops the floor out from beneath you.
I notice all the songs for each of the levels kind of start out triumphant or badass even, then descend into a sort of horror tune that sometimes doesn’t even have a beat to it, before ascending back to a cool song at the end. The only one that doesn’t seem to do this is the theme for Hell. It just…descends into madness. As it should.
This didn't age the best since D4 is actually quite dark and creepy, great story. Beat start to finish. It's no D1 but impressive nonetheless if we ignore D3.

People say D2 is better than the first Diablo, but for me that was never the case. Diablo is the most atmospheric game ever, it had the most hostile and toxic environment. Every enemy felt so deeply evil, and the character could only breath fresh air outside in this forsaken little village. Every single human character in the game had a certain level of Madness in him and I never trusted anyone, not even Cain fully. The Soundtrack is the best ever made for a Game.

I don't know why but the catacombs were my favorite location in diablo 1, possibly in the entirety of diablo. Back then, I was a kid, and actually only had the demo: I could only play up to level 3 on the version I had, so I spent hours in the first dungeon, and I saw the little advertisement of the full game, showing off pictures of hell so many times. Eventually someone got me a copy of the whole game, and I finally got to play it as it was intended: I got to the catacombs, and it was something so bizarre and weird, it was such a tone shift: not just visually, but you had the fascinating little crypt shortcut, instead of fighting zombies you had the goatmen. The music was a huge factor: it was just so unique. The tombs had this dread-inducing tone of fear that made the levels feel threatening, but this music was just _alien._ It felt like you were on an adventure proper: you'd proven yourself in the crypts above, and the game was ready to begin in earnest. The other layers didn't really give me that jarring sense of contrast, so they didn't stick with me as much

One of the things the new Diablos don’t get is the true fear sets in when things get quiet. This piece gets and understands the fear in the dark when one’s mind wanders and there truly are fearful creatures in the shadows.
I absolutely love this, the war drums in the first two minutes send chills down my spine and adrenaline through my veins. As if my primal instincts are triggering.
Love the part at 1:25-2:00, like an ancient witch doctor tribe from the depths of the darkest jungle dancing around a bonfire, falling into unconscious trance and chanting to summon a primeval spirit

Mine too! This is my favorite theme from D1 and 02:06 moment is the most atmospheric thing I've ever heard (I have to mention Doom 64 soundtrack here). It's not only the game soundtrack. It's like a journey through childhood nightmares which still fascinate you. You're still scared of them... but you love them! And miss them so much somehow...
0:00 You race through the mazelike halls of the catacombs, towards the sound of the profane ritual in the distance, hoping you can find it and stop it before it's too late... 2:06 ...then the sounds suddenly stop. Dread fills you as you realize that whatever horror was being summoned has arrived. You wonder if you have time to turn back... 4:14 ...but you hear something coming towards you. You steel your nerves and press onward. Whatever is approaching, you must face it and either slay it, or die trying.
Brilliant! I remember hearing those pounding drums of this track start as you entered the catacombs. The feeling it gave me was "oh ****! Its ON!" Gets you pumped up...and then when you are well down the halls it goes total creepy with the laughter, crying and hell knows what else - and on your first playthroughs you aren't sure what noises are beasts around the next corner and what is just the soundtrack. Catacombs was tight, clausterphobic-inducing and creepy and some of those demons seem designed to give you a jump scare when you turn around a dark corner. Track matches perfectly. Its creepy on its own, but its quite scary when you are playing the game in the mind of a 13 year old kid who dared to turn off the lights on a first playthrough.
They should make a new diablo game based on the first two merged together but let alone the monster being respawned when you go back to a particular area. I like it when the corpses still remain dead.
🥶 1:30 is the equivalent of walking through a haunted tunnel or dark hallway, alone, *_and being hit_* with the chilling realization that the howling wind you've been hearing for over a minute now, not only ain't so, but a host of wailing souls and angered spirits instead, finally taking notice and flooding towards you. Such moment then leaves you two options, basic and primal to our species: 😨 *Flight or Fight* 😡 As a kid, I used to picture my Warrior undergoing just that: being hit by a tidal wave of dark spiríts in a corridor, torchlights being snuffed in their wake. Aidan falling to his knees maybe from exhaustion, or perhaps because he recognized some of these presences trying to overwhelm them. Feeling a bitter mix of fear, anger, and pity before struggling to get up and continue on his quest. Man this game's awesome.
Damn, the crying gets to me. Even the music makes you feel like you're getting closer and closer to hell. You can hear the tortured souls of those who committed sins. And it's just sounds great. It has the right amount of intensity for a cathedral haunted by demons.
Ah yes it's middle of the night and I'm walking around under a cementary next to our beloved Tristram. Man when I hear this I" getting goosebumps all over my body. So epic
@@brandon4559 It was subpar than most, but it had its moments. Malthael was at least a cool villain and the expansion brought back that feeling of horror in certain areas.

It's like a journey through childhood nightmares which still fascinate you. You're still scared of them... but you love them! And miss them so much somehow...
On the cover, I always thought the horns by Diablo's head looked like a pair of red lobster claws.
2:08 demonically elegant
Probably my favorite piece from the game.
The best Diablo 1 track in the game!!!
I still need toilet paper to listen to this theme.
Now we all do
I love this track
1:30 part is so cool, hearing the sword swing and slash dmg in it
They should make a new diablo game based on the first two merged together but let alone the monster being respawned when you go back to a particular area.
Such moment then leaves you two options, basic and primal to our species:
😨 *Flight or Fight* 😡
As a kid, I used to picture my Warrior undergoing just that: being hit by a tidal wave of dark spiríts in a corridor, torchlights being snuffed in their wake. Aidan falling to his knees maybe from exhaustion, or perhaps because he recognized some of these presences trying to overwhelm them. Feeling a bitter mix of fear, anger, and pity before struggling to get up and continue on his quest.
Man this game's awesome.
2:07 I can listen forever
"And so locked behind the gateway of blood and past the hall of fire, Valor awaits for the hero of light to awaken..."
I CAN'T CARY ANYMORE.
I've heard that way too many times playing this game, just to find out I don't have a scroll of town portal.
I need to pawn some of this stuff- Warrior
I can't care about diablo anymore :'(
2 much baggage
3:58 still freaks me OUT
epic guitar at 1:30
i wish it had last longer than just few seconds
The smell of this franchise's death surrounds me
Damn, the crying gets to me. Even the music makes you feel like you're getting closer and closer to hell. You can hear the tortured souls of those who committed sins. And it's just sounds great. It has the right amount of intensity for a cathedral haunted by demons.
I'll play this just for the soundtrack.
Time to time i still play this game online. Great memories growing up. Dam my diablo cd cost so much
Suq Madiq where did play?
The middle part of the music sounds like the song, "Convoy" by the Canadian singer Paul Brandt.
the laughing gives me chills
20 years ago, I felt creepy when listening. But now, I feel that humans are more horrible...
“The smell of death surrounds me”
od 2:10 trzęsę się ze strachu... i podniecenia na myśl o tej wspaniałej grze
Podniecenia? 🤨
This song is a great mix of industrial RocK from that time. Maybe, even ahead of its time. Definitely a Nine Inch Nails influence.
This 'music' is fucking terrifying, I love it! It's definitely very hellish that's for sure.
"may the spirits of Arkaine protect me"
I love it when i hear bits of tristrams theme in the other tracks
this scared me as a kid, i didn't want to go into the catacombs
Imagine in real life....that would be terrifying
This song always gives me chills...😓😁
It's awesome though!!
"Rest well Leoric, I'll find your son".
When games really had that epic feel... now all trash today lol ( 60% )
I would say closer to 90%. But ok..
and all without hd graphics .. true art of game design
Hans Gerber diablo 1 is my favorite: good sounftrack , good gameplay and the graphics is good because its not hd
The composer must have been listening to Alice in Chains at the time. The parts with the guitar and wah-guitar reminds me of them.
Ah yes it's middle of the night and I'm walking around under a cementary next to our beloved Tristram. Man when I hear this I" getting goosebumps all over my body. So epic
imagine this in Virtual reality.
a diablo 1 vr with realistic eyes in the darkness with this music would be terrifying
The smell of Death surrounds me.
Diablo 1 - atmosphere.
Diablo 2 - gameplay.
Diablo 3 - 💩
I also agree
Actually d3 is solid lowkey. But yes diablo 1-2 are better.
Diablo immortal - 💩💰💩💰💩💰
@@brandon4559 It was subpar than most, but it had its moments. Malthael was at least a cool villain and the expansion brought back that feeling of horror in certain areas.
Diablo Immortal
Diablo II Resurrected
Diablo III Reaper of Souls
Diablo IV
Thanks. I was planning on buying it but I don't wanna ruin my awesome memories of playing this awesome game.
no WRPG will have a more atmospheric soundtrack than this
Easily one of the greatest gaming soundtracks of all time! I'd be remiss without also mentioning Final Fantasy music, Zelda, Dragon Quest VII, & Sonic 2 to name a few...
blizzard doesn't even sell Diablo 1 and hellfire on their online store, for shame.
give me my legacy games! I'll pay for them!
Earthstar Review "you think you do, but you don't...."
I'm currently digging up my cd because I saw visual proof that at least one of my friends owns one.
Earthstar Review I played it this week. Made it all the way to hell, but i was locked out by a bunch of steel lords and i dont have enough money to keep buying pots ;x;...
*sigh* new run for me...
I missed the skeleton king quest anyway. i think my disc is too scratched...
My heart weeps for you.
I loved Hell. The music, the atmosphere, and the menace of the creatures there. Damn steel lords.
D1 OST is very unique. Top 5
This takes me back...
this is probably my favorite soundtrack from game of all time, first time I heard it thought he'll yeah electric guitar for music in a video game! now there coming somewhere!
0:13 i always imaine a goatman playing that epic e guitar solo
And at 2:06, with a devilish grin while strumming
Legend says that if you listen to this song alone at night time with the lights turned off... you disappear from this world forever...
how tf i come back??? im lost in shit.
@@1989Ezal Death hasn't chosen you yet, keep doing it and soon you shall feel its cold embrace...
1:29 my favourite part! Mister Diablo shredding out!
I can see what you see not- Vision milky, then eyes rot. When you turn, they will be gone, Whispering their hidden song. Then you see what cannot be- Shadows move where light should be. Out of darkness, out of mind, Cast down into the Halls of the Blind.
