You are right, it is important for skateboarders to engage with the local councils. Not to come across as ungrateful for money being used on skateparks, but help them make the most of their money by building skateparks the right way.

Currently in the progress of rennovating my local right now and allocating grant money towards skate park features. We had to start a skater committee and are currently trying to postpone development because American Ramp Company's proposal was trash and the city was taking ideas from ppl who don't even skate.

this was my local growing up, so stoked to see you skate here. insane you skated the pyramid at all, sucks to see the park in this state.
Two concerns i got about that ground, one being dangerous falling because its like a cheese grater and two i can imagine pebble’s getting stuck in the holes and just flying forward. Like pebbles on regular ground already do that but theres a chance for it to get pushed away but on this ground i can imagine it jus being logged in there and just guarantee getting stuck on that pebble and flying

Man, that looks abysmal and incredibly dangerous. Can't imagine how slick it'd be if even slightly wet (a bit of morning dew?)
I live in Bensalem, where this park is. EVERYTHING about it was (is) terrible. The ground prior was so pitted you could barely roll, which was the main downfall. The pyramids/ledges looked like Matt Groening designed them for Bart Simpson... To make matters worse, the first time I went to check it out as an adult to "regain my youth" - I had to walk around the main park looking for the groundskeeper to unlock the gate (mid-day!). I quickly gave up skating it and went to the mini ramp. The mini was "okay" and could do most of my old lip tricks, but when I fell it was like falling into a frying pan (hot). When I left (around 4pm) the groundskeeper asked if I was done and locked the gate.......
Petitions to have it rebuilt properly fell flat. My guess is a local company lobbied hard enough (donations) to "reground" the park with the sh** in this video to get a sale.
Replace, repave . Maybe that’s where the pension fell flat because nobody knew what you were talking about

I remember they made you buy a membership to skate there back in the day. They would redo the asphalt all the time and your wheels would be black after a session. The ground might be soft and slippery, but it looks clean lol

If you did eventually learn and get good at this park your knees and joints would be absolutely fried unfortunately. This lowkey is setting people up for permanent knee and joint problems if you skated here longterm.
I grew up skating in PA and I’ve run into some crazy design flaws to cut corners and save money longterm on the city’s behalf. Weather is a factor back home so everyone is trying to find something cheaper that doesn’t wear and tear like concrete and isn’t quite as expensive but… this is really the craziest thing I’ve come across. Not only is it slippery, painful to fall on, not smooth, and impossible to pop or land on but trying to compensate for the surfaces “give” while dealing with impact will completely deteriorate your knees and joints longterm more than skating already does.
Nice to know about the conditions. When I want to head up over the Maryland/Pennsylvania line, I’ll go back to Reid Menzer. I love that park!

Grew up in Holland/newtown/richburo area, this was also one of the first parks I skated as a kid, that and the indoor Woodward in Franklin mills, I use to see young you, Ishod, and Chris cole there killin it!

Dude, I just moved up to Perkasie and I’m in the middle of starting to get really involved with the borough to try and make an update happen to the super run down skatepark in Lenape park. My impression so far from the township points directly to some of the advice you went over in this video. They want the local skateboarding community to get involved with stuff like this so that nightmares like this new floor in Bensalem don’t happen. It’s a waste of money and it’s a wasted opportunity to bring life back into the community. It’s so important that skateboarders make their voice heard when decisions like this are being made so that the park reflects what skateboarders actually want. Great video, man!

I remember back when I had a step dad who had money we had an area in our backyard with that weird ass plastic cube ground and I built some ramps back there to skate and it was so bad, I got so many boards thrown into the pool just from sliding out on that shit. The worst is when it’s wet in any kind of way
I've never seen that kind of ground anywhere before. I'd much rather skate old crusty asphault or concrete ground. At least you know what you're in for

Had a friend in high school with that ground on their back yard tennis court they build a mini ramp and a bunch of boxes and rails. Wasn’t too bad.
Its probly that stuff for outside basketball court. This one park back in the day the concrete actually slows you down.

Pretty sure this ground is in the catalog of products availble to public works (like those butter bench ledges you see all over). The city is just using what was available to them at the lowest cost possible

Bro that’s literally in-line hockey tile, we have it here under our ice rinks so in the summer when the ice is taken out guys can play inline hockey.
There’s an inline hockey rink next to my local. This is the same surface as that.

There’s an indoor park near me that’s all wood and the ground (not the ramps) is kinda soggy, it maybe takes 20% of your pop, which means for me that if I’m not totally feeling it it takes a lot of my confidence away when skating certain obstacles in there. This park here would be horrible for me. Plus I hate static shocks! Love the Static videos tho. Shout out Josh Stewart 🫡
they re did the hockey rink next to vets in hamilton with these tiles this summer too. was fun to mess around an do power slides on but i can’t believe they redid a whole skatepark with it. super dangerous if you have hard wheels.

We have an indoor rec centre that doubles as a skate park. The ground is similar, plastic and slippery but not mesh like that. Pretty damn hard to learn on! Skate park designed by a lawyer.

See I have the opposite, they made the ground so perfect at my local park that when I went street skating today the ground felt really rough lol. Always a give and take I guess
I've seen this ground used for basketball courts and futsal courts. Terrible in those applications too.

I grew up skating this place mainly for the mini ramp and the butterstick ledge. I took my daughter here the other day because I heard they gave the ground a face-lift and it's absolutely trash

This sounds like a situation where some sales rep from some vendor came in to the city when they were taking bids on resurfacing and said all the right things, not to mention price was probably less than a legit resurface. I wonder if there is a compromise that could be made where the install company could at least pull out what they put in. Sounds like a case could be made against that company/city that it is actually endangering kids even more because of sharp debris that gets stuck in the grid and could slice up some legs/arms. What a bummer, it just needs to go back to what it was at this point imho, unless the city can get the money back and do it right which is doubtful.

They just redid a basketball court next to where I live and the ground was that grippy court ground that wasn’t bad but now it’s this and the little squares slip so it messes things up…
i’ve only seen that ground in a basketball courts next to the mccreesh skatepark in philly. maybe their goal with that was to keep the noise down or sth ? what an awful idea for a skatepark though. they couldn’t have done a worse job with that

They put those in a tennis court near me. It power slides so good, not fun for tricks though.
I live right there so I would usually skate there after work instead of driving to mids, but not anymore lol. I talked to one of the “park rangers” there and asked what the deal was, he said the new ground was expensive and a new thing. He clearly wasn’t involved. There were also screws sticking out on the sheet metal. They replaced some of the screws with ones that could be flush, but they’re still not even put in right. I submitted a form on the Bensalem parks and Rec website to complain, mainly about the ground. Hopefully if more people submitted complaints to them, they would rip it up. The old asphalt was way better to skate. I highly doubt that if the basketball court or the roller rink started getting old that they would put this ground down over it.
yea i noticed the screws are still weird in the pyramid def not put in right, whole thing looks jenky...its insane and such a waste of money. i hope they see this and get more complaints as well. its ridiculous. THANKS for your input and for watchign !

Yo Tom, I know you know the bushing struggle and you're a Thunder guy. The clear orange 90duro bushings from Thunder are incredible. They feel a little harder than 90 but they also feel stronger and better quality than the red or blue ones. Give em a try.
damn thanks for the insight. anytime i ever skated stock thunder bushings they were always the white ones. never tried anthing else...gonna need new bushings soon, ill look into those ! THANKS
@@tomastaThe stock clear bushings are better than the solid ones. The blueish clear ones seem to be a little harder then the rest of the clear ones. I like the orange and red clear bushings as well. The clears ones are 90du.

Blue park for life ! Lolol I actaully live around the corner and would still skate blue weekly bc of the ledge and no one was ever there was pretty chill untill they ruined it with the around it’s more dangerous than it was b4 and they closed it for 3 months to put the new ground in
