Sphere might be a good one - set in an undersea lab. Get to see sea snakes, jellyfish, and squid and the characters talk about what behaviors are normal for those creatures or not. You could talk about whether or not they are correct. Like, one character says sea snakes only bite at nighttime (which seems like it wouldn't even matter when they are in the dark ocean depths).
Oddly enough, while I have a completely unreasonable fear of sharks (if I'm swimming in any water with my eyes closed and think of them, I'll semi-freak and need to open my eyes to see they're not there), I have long been in favor of shark conservation efforts. So thank you for balancing the fiction with fact. I never forgot a woman I knew from Bermuda telling me how sharks don't really attack if they're full. She said that because of their fishing laws, any sharks that got close to where people swam were full, and so swimmers would exit the water but not panic. When a giant ray came close to shore, however, it was much more dangerous and volatile. And larger, from what she said. This really struck me as counter to our vision of sharks as endlessly hungry and ever-aggressive.
I think it is said in the movie that the facility was a supply base for german submarines in WWII. This is also one of my favorite underwater movies, and as such I tried to recreate this base in SUBNAUTICA. I looked in all the scenes info about how it would look underwater but it was impossible to get an exact replica, considering the game doesn't have buildings of the same geometry shape as those from the movie. With Subnautica BELOW ZERO however, it might be more possible due to the large room. You should do breakdown of "Sphere" also with Samuel L Jackson, Emma Stone and Dustin Hoffman, which is an underwater movie. And while you are at it, might as well do "The Abyss" with Ed Harris, and perhaps "The Big Blue" with Jean Reno.
I also see sharks as just animals and not human exterminators or predator monsters. They prey on other animals, and are prey of other animals... I think Orcas or other sharks. By the way, the bad ass guy in the movie makes another bad ass role in The Expanse (sci fi space series).
I feel like that’s what this movie is trying to say though. They mention quite a few times that sharks are not naturally aggressive killing machines. But humans have selfishly modified them to become killing machines for their own personal gain, even breaking ethical laws to do so. Whilst the science is definitely fantastical, I don’t think it depicts sharks negatively at all.
Fun science fact: If you're ever being attacked by a super intelligent shark capable of understanding human speech tell it that it's "from a time when everything was flesh and teeth" and it will be so confused it will give you a chance to escape.
I feel like they’re not really used that way in this movie. They mention many times that sharks are not naturally aggressive toward humans etc. I think if anything this movie vilified humans, showing just how far we’re willing to go to help ourselves/make a profit with little regard for other forms of life.

The overlap of the placoid scale pattern makes this dirrection more smooth whereas if you move tail to snout you will be hitting the edges of the scale and this is what can hurt or cut your hand. Now, almost 20 years later, I still can't even jump into a swimming pool without thinking about sharks (or cold Norwegian waters where no large sharks (perhaps except the rare basking shark) would ever visit). While sharks are interesting, I hope you will do a video on giant squids (perhaps not the proper term) like the mythological Kraken and what the current understanding scientifically, are on such big creatures. To me such creatures are more interesting than sharks, which to me are just big fish with many teeth. And from my understanding, sharks do not care much for humans in regards to as a food source (humans are too bony, and not much fat/meat).
I want to build special robot that can stay in the water for long periods time. If you can make a video on the currents in the ocean? How far down does the currents go
I dont know why my mother made us both watch this when i was 6-7 years old, i reckon she was expecting it to be "family friendly" despite it being a 15. Since then thats when shark movies scared me. Looking back i see how silly they are now, and i havent made myself watch any recent ones like The Meg. I do actually like sharks. I liked seeing Steve Backshall get out of a shark cage to swim out with a calm Great White Shark. Its shows they arent there to attack us, and actually dont seem to find us that tasty to eat. It makes me sad with the shark populations declining, when they are an important part of the ecosystem. :(
You know, her not being a native English speaker kinda makes her better at explaining things as she shows care in proper pronunciation and word choice.
I loved this movie when I was a teen. I watched it a few years ago and I thought it was pretty bad, but what I really disliked about it, is how it vilifies sharks. I had experiences with wild sharks and dolphins. Sharks are scary. I noticed I had a big one close when I was swimming "far" from the beach when I was a kid. I almost had a heart attack when I noticed there was a huge fish close to me (it was actually small, less than one meter probably but for a kid it looked huge). I never went alone to swim again, which pleased my mother. But the shark did nothing against me. Very, very silently, it ignored me. It was like a torpedo, it disappeared incredibly fast. My experiences with dolphins are much worse. I was in a boat and they appeared... and started jumping around. The boat almost sank. If they fell over me, they would have killed me. Those things are truly dangerous. They are crazy, they don't know limits. RESPECT MY BUBBLE FREAKING CETACEAN

Unrelated to the video but... Any chance you could do a video on beaked whales in the future? They are such fantastic creatures and allmost no one is talking about them. If the answe is no that's ok too! I am so happy your channel exists and that we can learn so many things about the sea and the creatures in it! :) keep up the good work!
Thank yo for your comment! I will put that as a possible video idea for the future. There are so many cool things to talk about, that sometimes it's difficult to choose a topic :D
If the events in the movie were true, I assume they would be funded by those who were going to manufacture the drug without making reference to how they developed it. She was fanatical enough, perhaps not to care about peer review process and her reputation but rather just defeating the disease was her obsession. She seemed uncharacteristically stupid to "bait" the shark in the end by throwing herself into an unescapable situation instead of dangling her legs.
@@Seamemaria it was a little comedic thing cartoon network did a long time ago. they had little clips they would play at commercial breaks. I think it was kinda mocking a discovery show at the time where they would do a theoretical animal vs animal thing and build robots to simulate bite force etc. I just remember one of the segments one of the people responded "I think the shark would win because they dont have any bones they are all cartilage" and the narrator inserts "cartilage is a science word"
I just want to ask you, as a professional of this kind of subject, will at least some sharks be around after humans? I know the answer is probably yes, but I just need the reassurance, you know?
this may come across as shocking to many others, but there are plenty of sea creatures including sharks that are intelligent. they should not be treated brutally. and yes, one of the most stupidest things [ according to shark that I talked to recently ] is a shark bashing against, in and through a boat just to get humans. According to this shark I talked to, only the rogue sharks that have been chewing on too many strange plants in the bottom, act this way. Sharks want an easy to hunt prey. they don't want to get band aids on their nose just to get a meal.
question- sharks bites things to investigate whether it's food or not. Do orcas do the same thing? if I recall there's next to non accidental orca attacks on humans
If someone would say to me "XX is the oldest creature on earth" I would not believe him/her. My go to answer would be some prokaryote, single-cellular organism. The term "creature" itself is also kinda vague tbh. ^^ Also, just imagine this film using a greenland shark. Slowest chase scenes ever! XD
I would have loved seeing a Greenland shark in this movie, as long as they don't vilify them too, cause they are awesome! And you are right. Probably the first lifeforms to have appeared were single celled-organisms.
I love sharks so much they are amazing animals and they are good for the environment it makes me sick that they use them to make monsters of them to put fear in the people in fact the reason why I made my channel was because of a shark even though my name is Kraken
What about the large Manta Ray? is it dangerous. I notice sharks stay CLEAR AWAY from those creatures. Manta Rays are interesting but there ARE VERY FEW nature shows or ocean shows that talk about these magnificent creatures like Rays, Stingrays and similar genus , or is it species.

I mean this movie is very dumb, but like it is one of the more entertaining shark movies. I guess potentially to do something not shark related there is 'the beast" miniseries with a giant squid attacking boats.
Non-marine biology related inaccuracy; just because the sharks got more intelligent doesn't mean they'd instantly understand technology like cameras & ovens.
I thought that this movie was ok. It really bugged me how they made the sharks overly intelligent. Sure, they boosted their intelligence levels, but that doesn't mean they'd automatically know what video cameras how, what the laws of physics are, or what oven are and how to turn one on. Intelligence is one thing, but knowledge is something else and it annoys me how Hollywood constantly conflates the two.

Just waiting for it to be available on streaming sites!
@@Seamemaria I saw it today for $4. Enjoyed it for the most part, could have used more high realistic stakes. If you can turn of your brain, you'll have a good time, lol.
Not to be judgemental, but I can totally see this lady taking care of orphaned seal cubs in her spare time...
Me too! :D
Fun fact: While sharks are excellent in smelling blood in the water, humans exceed this ability in smelling petrichor, the smell of wet stone. :D
Is the documentary Sharknado next? :)
haha I wouldn't even know where to start with that one xD
I saw the trailer, it is so funny:) Tornado with sharks, who can imagine that?
My Scar is called Deep Blue after the great white so this video felt very appropriate
I want to build special robot that can stay in the water for long periods time. If you can make a video on the currents in the ocean?
How far down does the currents go
Love your content!💙 I’m also a marine biologist with a RUclips channel. It’s a great side gig
new channel name. rolls off the tongue much better.
You know, her not being a native English speaker kinda makes her better at explaining things as she shows care in proper pronunciation and word choice.
Scrutinize is most definitely a word.
So if it had taken an exploratory bite, you'd feel differently??
@@Christobanistan I'll admit that could have influenced my opinion on the matter, yeah XD
it wans't bad is a really great movie
Yesss another video :)
Best shark movie next to jaws. I sadly heard there are sequels 🤦🏾♂️
Any suggestions of shark movies that don't portray them as evil or "killing machines"?
In the end we all went to see this movie originally just for Samuel L. Jackson lmao
Kind of sad she didn't include his speech scene
ooh sorry about that xD
@16:22 was that a thrasher shark?!
what kind of bones do eels have, the ones that live in reefs?
In this movie there is 1 Tigershark & 3 Mako shark
For the next movie reaction you could maybe put the subtitles on screen so we can follow better ? :D
It's hard to figure out what they're saying, but with subtitles it's all good
I had to lower the sound, because of copyrighted music. So having subtitles is quite a good idea. Thanks ;)
Love your channel ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you! =)
@@Seamemaria your welcome x
Can you make a video of manta ray? They super intresting for me
Unrelated to the video but...
@@Seamemaria OMG You responded!!! Thank you so much! :D and thank you for considering it too! you're the best!
did you know that NO shark can bite as hard as a crocodile (2200 ibs per sq. inch), neither can a tiger or lion
I like these review/reaction videos more than the subnautica ones
a pequena Meg está de volta !!! lol
I just watched this the other night. Much more Enjoyable to watch with the gorgeous Maria!
haha thanks! I'm glad I could add to the experience :)
Who would win in a fight.... a flying shark or a flying crocodile?
That's a good question for which I do not have an answer. I think they would be pretty even
@@Seamemaria it was a little comedic thing cartoon network did a long time ago. they had little clips they would play at commercial breaks.
Hello Maria are you ccr certified?
this may come across as shocking to many others, but there are plenty of sea creatures including sharks that are intelligent. they should not be treated brutally. and yes, one of the most stupidest things [ according to shark that I talked to recently ] is a shark bashing against, in and through a boat just to get humans. According to this shark I talked to, only the rogue sharks that have been chewing on too many strange plants in the bottom, act this way. Sharks want an easy to hunt prey. they don't want to get band aids on their nose just to get a meal.
Love your content
Thank you!
I recommend watching Abyss
I love that movie! Haven't watched it in a long time.
Nice one rewiew!
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it =)
yes the gigabrain shark movie ^^
tiger shark mako great white shark monster brain hybrid boogaloo
question- sharks bites things to investigate whether it's food or not.
Also, just imagine this film using a greenland shark. Slowest chase scenes ever! XD
I would have loved seeing a Greenland shark in this movie, as long as they don't vilify them too, cause they are awesome!
And you are right. Probably the first lifeforms to have appeared were single celled-organisms.
I have the IKEA shark, too. Her name is Martha.
Haha I love it! Martha is a great name
@@Seamemaria after Martha’s Vineyard (I’m sure I don’t need to tell you why)
Protect Sharks People 👍
Actually Sharks are my favorite marine animal even my personal mails have the "Shark" in them. =)
I love them as well! ^^
Marine biologist breaks down deep blue sea? More like Maria breaks me down with her deep blue eyes. Am I right? Uh no, okay.
only thing i remember from this movie is
"You ate my bird."
xD LL Cool J is the best in this movie
Have you ever seen the YT video "Guy And Wild Shark Have Been Best Friends For Decades | The Dodo Wild Hearts" ?
I have not... but sounds interesting
Now analyze King Sharks behavior in The Suicide Squad 👑🦈
I love sharks so much they are amazing animals and they are good for the environment it makes me sick that they use them to make monsters of them to put fear in the people in fact the reason why I made my channel was because of a shark even though my name is Kraken
IT’S JUST A MOVIE!
I am buying a shark doll.
This is a silly silly movie. And for marine biologist it must be painful. But it is also entertaining.
Exactly. This movie is both entertaining and painful to watch. I would not have put it better xD
Manta Rays are not dangerous. They are probably amongst my favourite animals. I would love to see them in the wild
@@Seamemaria when you think about it, they are the graceful glider or falcons of the ocean, except they are not predators. they are like gliding ballet dancers as they spread their wings and fly under the ocean.
Well that movie for you I live cape cod 1hr. Away for Shark Alley. Good old Chatham Massachusetts. We got seal an more seal they are everywhere. Cool now that bring in every Great white an other that the seals.cool.the big one Hasn't shown up yet.but he will His gourmet Dinner. Awaits. Don't get me wrong there some big great white Sharks out there.but I think the big on not here yet.maybe water not deep Enough.there out taking them..
Imagine if these sharks were real like real life highly engineered great whites or black tips I’m still confused I haven’t seen the movie in a long time
I mean this movie is very dumb, but like it is one of the more entertaining shark movies. I guess potentially to do something not shark related there is 'the beast" miniseries with a giant squid attacking boats.
I like the part where the shark lifts a woman up before devouring her.
Non-marine biology related inaccuracy; just because the sharks got more intelligent doesn't mean they'd instantly understand technology like cameras & ovens.
No...I like Mako sharks....they're like smoll great whites..also Sharks aren't monsters. They're just animals.
Also love Mako sharks
Should check out some of the videos from Blue World YT.
I know them. They are really cool
i love how smart and pragmatic you are. hollywood always has a tendency to be removed from realism, which is quite disappointing
These were magic sharks. They had knowledge of things they had never seen before xD
Is it just me or do you kind of look like the scientist in the movie
Hi!
4:29
Hahahaha ! Exaclty my reaction !
I also have the same reaction when in some sci-fi/superhero story they say "It's a place outside of spacetime" or "A place outside of time"
Like... WHAT ?! What does that even mean ?!
It's the type of phrases that sound superficially cool, but doesn't even begin to make a lick of sense when you think about it more than five seconds
haha exactly! The less sense it makes, the more profound it sounds
Nice
