Cakoi or fried dough stick is very well loved by Malaysian. You can eat it almost with everything, dip in coffee, dip in soups, eat with curry, smothered with kaya, cut up into rojak and so much more. Even having it plain is good enough for me.
Most impressed that you are prepared to line up & wait for 30 min to get your nasi kandar, I thought only locals would do that ...... ..that only shows how Malaysian you are! Must admit I am less Malaysian than you, I have not try the nasi kandar at Deen Maju, simply bcos I got scarred when I see those long quene whenever I drive the place.
I'm a Malaysian working in Thailand. Your video made me homesick, and missing all the delicious spicy street food. The nasi kandar, flooded by the gravy, looks superb.
Thanks Mark for the series! You are really helping promote the lovely city that I grew up in. Hope you enjoyed your stay here! & Good luck on your upcoming travels & exploration 😋
The first video of yours I've watched. Won't be the last. *SUBSCRIBE* I'm so addicted to that thick unctuous Malay coffee, I buy pre-packed sachets of it in my local Asian supermarket and chug it down with sweetened condensed milk like I'm in a kopitiam. A kopi susu gelas with roti canai is my "go-to" breakfast when I'm over there. The story goes that if you count each stall in a food court, along with every other place on Pulau Pinang that serves food, you can eat three meals a day, seven days a week, for three years or more and not visit the same place twice. It's greater variety of Malay and Indian cuisines, added to the Chinese, puts Penang ahead of Singapore as a place to be overwhelmed by the choices you have, in my opinion. (Singapore, of course, has all the international stuff, but I'm not in South East Asia to eat traditional English roast beef and Yorkshire pudding.) The more favourable exchange rate for the ringgit makes it even better. Kudos on the way you put this video together. You know your stuff, and admit it when you don't, but you're not pretentious about it. You're enthusiastic to bring the food to us, the viewer, without being over-the-top excited. I don't think I've ever heard bahasa melayu spoken with an Alabama accent before, so there's one for me!
