I saw Eric Clapton at Roosevelt Stadium in Jersey City, NJ in 1974. Freddie King came out at the end and saved the show, as Clapton could barely stand up. He couldn't play and sing at the same time, and the crowd was not pleased. Freddie has been my favorite King since then.

I was lucky to see Freddie live three times. He blew the roof off every time and within 30 seconds the whole place was out of their chairs and dancing in the aisles. He could milk the BB box forever and a day with so much emotion and fire…truly a genius who doesn’t get enough recognition. Great lesson Cory! More like this please…you really nailed the tone on this one.

I also saw him three times! All in the UK. The first time was at a small club in Wolverhampton (before Leon Russell got involved.) I had never seen anybody play like that. Met him in the bar afterwards and he could not have been more friendly. We spoke about his favourite guitars and I asked him about his picking style and he showed me his thumb pick and single metal fingerpick. I have been a fan ever since.(My user name is a giveaway!)

I had the privilege of seeing Freddie King at the Armadillo World Headquarters in Austin about 45+ years ago. Eric Clapton came out at the end. What a night. I wore out Freddie's records over and over. Great video.

I think Freddie King is super under appreciated, hes my favorite Bluesman I hope there would be an in depth course about his playing and his licks. there is so much of his influence in a lot of the greatest players.

I agree that Freddie doesn't get the notice that he deserves, but the reason why there aren't any Freddie King guitar courses----- not many people can play like him! Except guys like Eric Clapton. Freddie was a supreme virtuoso guitarist and singer as well.

Great video Corey, five stars! You have nailed it. Anyone who does videos about Freddie King gets my immediate respect and approval. There's thousands of guitar videos on RUclips but very few discussing Freddie King. Can't understand why, maybe because not many people can play his licks the right way! You have only demonstrated one and there's dozens more just as fantastic! Then on top of this is the ultimate test for anyone wishing to emulate Freddie King---- the virtuoso guitar is only half of the equation------you gotta sing the songs too! Freddie King is one of my greatest musical idols, thank you for honouring him.

Not being able to turn down a great sale on clothes, back in the 1970”s, I bought the same exact tan/beige polyester jumpsuit from J.C. Penny’s that Freddie is wearing while playing the Sugar Bowl (RUclips) on clearance for $20.00. Jump suit, brim hat, and big heeled boots, used to play and boogie until 2:00 a.m. LOL 😂 Soon after, disco took over, it killed the blues clubs. Good times, high hopes and great inspirations. I love the Original Texas Cannonball Freddie King.

Another great lesson, Corey. This lick is a must have. I have two thoughts. Instead of getting a lighter gauge set for all the bending, just swap out the 2 and 3 strings for thinner gauge and leave the other four strings alone. I don't like the high string too thin. My high E string is a 10 and the B string is an 11 and the G is a 16. It like mixing a set of 9s and 10s. I use the Ernie Ball Hydrid set and replace the high E with a 10. Work well for me. As far as picking the lick, I like playing the high string D note in a hybrid style plucking it with the middle finger and only alternate pick the high D after the high F note. Snappy and accurate for me. Thanks again. I always look forward to your helpful and well articulated lesson.

I'm studying Freddy King such a fun player to learn blues licks are all over rock metal country Freddie and all the Kings where would we be where would Hendrix and all those amazing players like Clapton without the Kings , tone wise I have 3 P90 guitar Strat Style guitar with those stacked P90's I throw on some gain roll down the treble the P90's I get a real bluesy tone, I thinking of installing a more traditional P90's , P90's are the way to go , love this lick it's one those you keep in the lick tool box , you can play this lick many different keys on the neck,
