This is exactly why i came here to say. Cold war looked sooooo beautiful and vibrant. Even the dullest maps looked good compared to the washed out empty and soulless maps in BO6. Reallly hope they add more life once game comes out
I don’t know about consol players but on pc at least it’s an easy fix where you increase the saturation a little bit (it made mw2 2022 so much better to look at)
Knowing that Cold War was rushed, it's really impressive to see Treyarchs ability to make games in short periods of time, as for Black Ops 6, the animations upgraded quite nicely, and them using the Modern Warfare engine now is a nice change in my opinion. Another great comparison would be WAW and Black Ops. Treyarch had roughly 8 months to develop WAW, and it came out as a (not very instantly) classic COD game. But the animations were rough, graphics were a bit behind, and overall the game is clunky and unpolished compared to COD 4 standards. But then they had a full dev cycle to complete Black Ops, and it’s literally everything WAW was trying to portray but better. BOCW and BO6 are very, very similar story. they were lazy enough to build an entire black ops title off of an existing engine/style instead of using their own which made cold war stand out; bo6 in its entirety looks like treyarch sneezed on MW3 and called it a day. I wouldn't count on improvements

That's not how software development works lol, it's an alpha until it's feature complete, then it goes into beta, which Is for testing (which is the state the game is in rn). After feedback and bugfixes it goes into gamma (aka release candidate), and if all goes well it goes into stable release, aka the game releases. If you're interested in checking out the software life cycles Wikipedia has a page that explains it nice and simple.

one major thing that irks me is that at 7:00 you can see that on the ak-74 in blops6, the safety lever is stuck in safe mode (all the way up) when firing, which means the charging handle is clipping through the safety lever everytime it fires and the animators would not miss something that obvious which is just surprising

Some things had to be sacrificed to reduce the strain on memory and help with the FPS perhaps. That's a possible reason. Or the engine wasn't good enough..
I’m just glad they were able to move into the Post MW19 engine. Things feel and look so much better yet so familiar at the same time. It was never the engines fault, devs just never had the time to fully use the engine to it’s fullest potential

I feel like a lot of people are kinda complaining about the "grey"ness of this compared to more recent games, but the color palette of older COD games was ABYSMALLY grey and boring and honestly really ugly. This game is a bit more muted but i would not call it grey or boring

Because every year cod gets worse and worse. The game full of hackers, game crashes, shadow bans for no reason, shitty skins, unbalanced weapons. Every year we get a new cod with new issues along with it. I remember back in mw2019 I didn’t face any of these issues except for the cheaters. Beta is for bug testing and such (its mostly for pre-order money though in cod’s case). A month isnt enough time to add those and they probably dont care to anyways
Games don't take that quick to make. It took 4 years to make bo6, the beta is just to test the servers and minor issues like weapon balancing. A month to fix the graphics or physics when they had 4 years to do so doesn't make much sense. Also beta is just a buzzword in cod so players spend money on the vault edition...

The old pre-MW19 sound engine was so much better. Treyarch was always known for having the best soundscapes and dynamic range. I feel some of that has been lost with the new engine, BO6 included.

I love the font style, the hud, the design of the weapons barracks, Cold War scorestreaks, with that 80s vibe. In BO6 it is the same font style as the current MW3, I would have liked to see more of that 90s vibe, even in Cold War the soundtracks have 80s vibes.
The graphics are alright, I mean i prefer Cold War cleaner look. The thing that bothers me is the gameplay. Cold War feels snappy without feeling too arcady.

Cold War was one of my favorite things about pandemic. I had a friend I'd talk to every day. I was never a big CoD person but she told me to try Cold War and we played a ton of it. Everything opened back up, we don't talk so much anymore. I tried Vanguard and MW2. I will play BO6 but nothing will compare to neon malls and a sunset beach in Miami, and late night bullshitting with a friend.
every cod after MWII looks like battlefield with gunplay, the parkour mantling and omnimovement is sick just wish they kept the classic low visual recoil with minimal muzzle flash

MW engine is not so bad. look at MW II. it looks just right. lighting, shadows, colors... everything is realistic. ofc you can oversaturate it if you want with a filter, or make it brighter.
I was loyal to CW since launch to present day. As for some other people in this comment section now praising it, I know you were haters before. Now you all see the good in CW.
Since its only the beta version of bo6, they might have disabled a lot of the physics, destructible things around the maps. For the sake of performance since a lot of theses cause fps issues. I'm sure they will add them back into the game once it officially releases.

The IW Engine is a huge improvement IMO. You can squabble about aesthetic choices but in terms of technology there’s no comparison. Modern Warfare was practically created for gun porn enthusiasts. The lead devs (Joel Emslie etc) who helped developed the original MW were all gun enthusiasts and it shows. The gun play, look and feel is pretty much unmatched.
beta means almost finished. they will made some small improvements but the lighting, colors need each map to be remade. that does not fit in the beta terms.
I like how at the release of Cold War all the old engine talk mattered but now it just doesn't. Almost as if the only objective is to hate on the new thing and then the cycle is gonna repeat 3 years later.
One thing I will say about Black Ops 6 is that I'm glad they dropped the whole cartoony-esque artstyle entirely of BO4, BOCW. I always thought it looked very goofy, Black Ops 6's artstyle reminds me a lot of BO1's and I appreciate it honestly. Its why I also liked MW2019's ''Gritty, modern'' artstyle too because it reminded me a lot of BO1 (and partially WAW) (Edit: I didnt mean to put BO3 on the goofy list. I didnt realize that I did. My bad.) I actually think BO2 and BO3 are the best looking cods out there in terms of COLORFUL palettes/artstyle

It's the overly bright shadows. They got rid of proper contrast to boost visibility.
They got to crank up that Contrast and/or Saturation, BO6 Colors make it look like it's going through a Mid-life crisis!

Could be time period related. Black ops Cold War takes place in the mid 80s and bo6 takes place in the gulf war
they became not caring at all about such stuff like ambient occlusion, shadow colors, full reflections... and fps is still worse somehow lol

one major thing that irks me is that at 7:00 you can see that on the ak-74 in blops6, the safety lever is stuck in safe mode (all the way up) when firing, which means the charging handle is clipping through the safety lever everytime it fires and the animators would not miss something that obvious which is just surprising

Some things had to be sacrificed to reduce the strain on memory and help with the FPS perhaps. That's a possible reason. Or the engine wasn't good enough..
I’m just glad they were able to move into the Post MW19 engine. Things feel and look so much better yet so familiar at the same time. It was never the engines fault, devs just never had the time to fully use the engine to it’s fullest potential

Beta is for bug testing and such (its mostly for pre-order money though in cod’s case). A month isnt enough time to add those and they probably dont care to anyways
Games don't take that quick to make. It took 4 years to make bo6, the beta is just to test the servers and minor issues like weapon balancing. A month to fix the graphics or physics when they had 4 years to do so doesn't make much sense. Also beta is just a buzzword in cod so players spend money on the vault edition...

The old pre-MW19 sound engine was so much better. Treyarch was always known for having the best soundscapes and dynamic range. I feel some of that has been lost with the new engine, BO6 included.
Black ops 6 looks great but somehow the lighting, reflections and colors look better in CW. It just feels so arcady, but yeah bo6 is cool af

I love the font style, the hud, the design of the weapons barracks, Cold War scorestreaks, with that 80s vibe. In BO6 it is the same font style as the current MW3, I would have liked to see more of that 90s vibe, even in Cold War the soundtracks have 80s vibes.

Cold War was one of my favorite things about pandemic. I had a friend I'd talk to every day. I was never a big CoD person but she told me to try Cold War and we played a ton of it. Everything opened back up, we don't talk so much anymore. I tried Vanguard and MW2. I will play BO6 but nothing will compare to neon malls and a sunset beach in Miami, and late night bullshitting with a friend.
Treyarch is back, which means with time black ops will be back to its former glory

Since its only the beta version of bo6, they might have disabled a lot of the physics, destructible things around the maps. For the sake of performance since a lot of theses cause fps issues. I'm sure they will add them back into the game once it officially releases.

The IW Engine is a huge improvement IMO. You can squabble about aesthetic choices but in terms of technology there’s no comparison. Modern Warfare was practically created for gun porn enthusiasts. The lead devs (Joel Emslie etc) who helped developed the original MW were all gun enthusiasts and it shows. The gun play, look and feel is pretty much unmatched.

I like how at the release of Cold War all the old engine talk mattered but now it just doesn't.

One thing I will say about Black Ops 6 is that I'm glad they dropped the whole cartoony-esque artstyle entirely of BO4, BOCW.
I always thought it looked very goofy, Black Ops 6's artstyle reminds me a lot of BO1's and I appreciate it honestly. Its why I also liked MW2019's ''Gritty, modern'' artstyle too because it reminded me a lot of BO1 (and partially WAW)
