In Trinidad and Tobago, we also cook corned beef and cabbage, or corned beef with potatoes. It is nice to know that people in Hawaii enjoy corned beef and cabbage, as Trinis do.

Exactly the way my mom always made it, here in South Carolina, USA!
Amazing how it's truly a 'small world', even where comfort food is concerned!
Thank you for sharing this ❤

I grew up in Honolulu/Kalihi and my mom made a lot of these dishes. So Ono 😋. Miss the old days.

This brings back memories when my late mom used to cook corned beef and cabbage this way when I was growing up; I'm 'Pino (Filipino) and this was the only corned beef and cabbage I knew. Then when I got much older growing up in Calif, I ordered it at a restaurant and it was the "other one" that used corned beef brisket like the Irish and mainlanders make. It was ok but I was expecting the one like you show here. I eat both versions but I prefer to cook my mom's version more because my mom made it this way. Mahalo for sharing this brah!!!

I'm the youngest of 9 and my mom always requested for me to make this for her. She said mine was the best because she preferred her veg more on the "al dente" side. She also loved my corned beef hash korokke which I created at 12 years old after a mistaken memory of my sister's corned beef hash patties.

Mahalo Cuz! You brought back fond memories with this local dish. Grew up eating these dishes with rice back in Kalihi. Money was tight but canned goods such as Spam, Vienna Sausage, Corned Beef, Luncheon Meat, Tuna could be stretched out to feed the Ohana. All you had to was add some Veges. Keep up the great content 🤙🏽

Like living in 60's in third world where fresh meat was too dangerous to use. Came back to states for vacation and it was like going to a gourmet restaurant every day !! Today...back to the canned meat with lots of vegetables and spices. Past week I ate spam right from the can due to lack of working cooking facility...just grateful. No way can afford so much meat.

Not all mainlanders are mystified by this bro. I'm guessin Hawaiians don't know this has been a staple in Appalachia too (minus the rice) for generations.

Hi E, of course... alot of so called Hawaiian style foods are based off mainland stuff... love to see the App mountains one day... this corned beef recipe is just comfort food to us... and me being 7th generation Chinese Hawaiian in Hawaii it's just something that goes back as long as I can remember... stay Blessed... @@taluaigaluega905you mean the Palm or Ox & Palm brand with the hearty chunks? I thought that was NZ corned beef too! No doubt, I agree with you.. next one is Libby's, but it depends on the recipe too. The Ox &Palm I like to use in palusami😋. Now I get one mean craving for palusami!🤙🤙
