- Aloha all, long time no see! here is a short video on some Hawaii comfort foods... Corned Beef Cabbage is something all of us in Hawaii grew up eating... fast, simple and oh so Ono!
In Trinidad and Tobago, we also cook corned beef and cabbage, or corned beef with potatoes. It is nice to know that people in Hawaii enjoy corned beef and cabbage, as Trinis do.
Exactly the way my mom always made it, here in South Carolina, USA!
Amazing how it's truly a 'small world', even where comfort food is concerned!
Thank you for sharing this ❤
I grew up in Honolulu/Kalihi and my mom made a lot of these dishes. So Ono 😋. Miss the old days.
My Wife and I love your videos. Your pidgin accent makes us think of Home as much as your recipes! Right on!!!
This brings back memories when my late mom used to cook corned beef and cabbage this way when I was growing up; I'm 'Pino (Filipino) and this was the only corned beef and cabbage I knew. Then when I got much older growing up in Calif, I ordered it at a restaurant and it was the "other one" that used corned beef brisket like the Irish and mainlanders make. It was ok but I was expecting the one like you show here. I eat both versions but I prefer to cook my mom's version more because my mom made it this way. Mahalo for sharing this brah!!!
We love this with some Tabasco sauce too. I like eat this now lol.
I'm the youngest of 9 and my mom always requested for me to make this for her. She said mine was the best because she preferred her veg more on the "al dente" side. She also loved my corned beef hash korokke which I created at 12 years old after a mistaken memory of my sister's corned beef hash patties.
This is island food 😊 we eat this in the caribbean too 🙌🏾
Mmmmm mom made this quite often when I was a kid!! So goood da buggah!
my dad used to cook this for me all the time so glad i found this video
Great video! I know what I am cooking for weekend breakfast. Thank you. 👍
Yesssahhh unks Stay blessed 🙌 too hawaiian Aloha
Mahalo Cuz! You brought back fond memories with this local dish. Grew up eating these dishes with rice back in Kalihi. Money was tight but canned goods such as Spam, Vienna Sausage, Corned Beef, Luncheon Meat, Tuna could be stretched out to feed the Ohana. All you had to was add some Veges. Keep up the great content 🤙🏽
Just made a pot, waiting for the hot rice now. Haven't had it in since I left HI since I'm the only one who'll eat it. Mais fica like my parents used to say. More for me in Portuguese.😂
Ono memories from keiki times. Tanks brah 🤙
Yessah unko about to whip some up fo dinnah!! 🤙🏾🤙🏾

We do this in the Philippines too! 🥰
Yesahh unko! killahz mahalo
Oh my family used to eat this as our viand. I am shocked to know that it's a comfort food in Hawaii, I thought this dish is only for us less fortunate people. Because we cannot buy meat every day. 😜😂 This brings back memories!
looking good brah. i like to make corned beef and onions with shou, oyster sauce and sesame oil. my wife calls it dog food but she don't know what she's missing....lol
I can attest that she don’t know what she missing! Stay Blessed… Aloha!
Another home cooked meal is fried tuna and onion over rice😋
Ho, that's old school fo reals! My dad used to make um mixed with scrambled eggs.
That's news to me! But there's some tuna and onions (always) sitting around....
Like living in 60's in third world where fresh meat was too dangerous to use. Came back to states for vacation and it was like going to a gourmet restaurant every day !! Today...back to the canned meat with lots of vegetables and spices. Past week I ate spam right from the can due to lack of working cooking facility...just grateful. No way can afford so much meat.
Can brah can!!!!
Not all mainlanders are mystified by this bro. I'm guessin Hawaiians don't know this has been a staple in Appalachia too (minus the rice) for generations.
Hi E, of course... alot of so called Hawaiian style foods are based off mainland stuff... love to see the App mountains one day... this corned beef recipe is just comfort food to us... and me being 7th generation Chinese Hawaiian in Hawaii it's just something that goes back as long as I can remember... stay Blessed... Aloha
An easy Keto meal, too!
Bruh, one can not going feed 4 people in my house. Not even 2. 🤣🤣
Haha understood!
🤙!
Made this yesterday cheeee!
You know what i mean 😁
Haha yea I tend to say that a lot according to many people haha… stay Blessed Catharine… Aloha!
I couldn’t understand you when you added the liquid ingredient..soy sauce? 5:08 in the transcript it says “little it show you”
Yes its soy sauce... shoyu is just a Japanese way of saying soy sauce... stay Blessed
Uncle, what's one little large onion ?
Hey Q... means what ever you like Haha... stay Blessed
What was the condiment ? Couldn't clearly hear what you called it.
>Shoyu" (Just a Brand of Soy Sauce)
Bra. Hard pigeon. I guess it's just the way it is 😢
Yummy
NZ corned beef can is much better than the cheap US one. Tasty stuff.. hehehe 😢😅
Yes I agree but I dont know of any corned beef made in the US unless you are talking about whole muscle brisket... canned corned beef we get is mostly from Brazil or other... stay Blessed
@@hapahawaiianchef SORRY, I meant the one that is made from Argentina that is sold in the store everywhere in the USA.
@@taluaigaluega905you mean the Palm or Ox & Palm brand with the hearty chunks? I thought that was NZ corned beef too! No doubt, I agree with you.. next one is Libby's, but it depends on the recipe too. The Ox &Palm I like to use in palusami😋. Now I get one mean craving for palusami!🤙🤙
