OMG! When my husband and I owned our own retail brick and mortar, sadly black people supported us the least. I thought because we were black we would automatically have support from the black community and it was the opposite. Black people hardly even came into our store... but let you go to the town Walmart, FILLED with black people! I love how Dame tries to empower the black community. I think he's a good person.

Yo. Kenyatta. I think part of the answer to why black folks fear working together is "Branding". Straight up in the marketing sense of the word. We are branded/marketed to the world as inferior. Also, through our music, branded as untrustworthy, gangster and so on, and so on.

Well done Fellas...! We need more content like this. The reason why many in our community gravitate towards brands is because those brands are marketed and promoted towards the gen pop. How much marketing and promotion do we do with our products and services to show our advantages over our competitors ? So, to me the most powerful promotion Dame has done in the last week was exposing his experience in DC..PLUS he had his seed there with him..! It shows others that we can get together plan, and work our plans. Like I tell my kids, this is all about competition, no one is going to lay down and let us win. We need to get in the game take our lumps and keep at it. We have to build our nation within this nation, we have move in a unified manner and pass that directive on to our kids...! Well done fellas, this is a way more powerful conversation than most really realize, we need more of it.

***** well said. We also need to commit to being unified. I sometimes think many within our ranks are afraid of the struggle. Anytime you build shit there is going to be obstacles. Building shit that last takes time and intestinal fortitude. It calls for education, investment and reinvestment. We've gotta take that first step is all.

Bro i respect and like that u gave Damon a platform to speak his mind and i understand that u need to lead the interviews but bro often u break off(or try to match what he try's to explain which gets his explanation off topic) Damon while he was going to explain or tell a story that was gonna be nice to hear, its kinda irritating.

These chats are always so insightful. I think black consumers are smart. They know that not many black people own the means of production so they will never think our products are just as good or better until they start seeing some factories!

Folk been saying that for years since I wAs young nothing much has changed except a few labels and it still takes an “old head” to influence the idea of the youth. Nothing is new under the sun.

This conversation was dope! I think the issue is finding a solution to "not sticking together" ok we've acknowledged it,we've addressed it, now lets start throwing some ideas out on how to implement ways we could learn to stick together! We're raised to be individuals, not a people or a culture. Other people have parades to celebrate their pride in their culture we don't have that. It exists but we don't embrace it. Pride in culture as a people is very important and key. Also other cultures don't have to know each other, once they find out their of the same ethnicity, they automatically link. We don't have that. And there's an extreme lack of trust amongst our culture. Also other cultures are backed by their home land or country we don't have that. They also build! One owns, one has products to be sold, there's info, there's communication etc etc we don't have that. There are black entrepreneurs but its not reaching the youth that's the key! like nipsey hussle said culturally we're detached! We have to be taught and shown "stick together" but we always see that fail! Over and over again! We need to be able to point at multiple black owned movements and ventures that are not just successful but also stable, so we can then say ok, this can work! Also media wise, we're not being shown black success! It also exists but we have to find away to reach and teach on our own , for our own! Easier said tho! Dope convo!
