Probably one of the most iconic 'modern-day' supercar. Yes the F1 is not the prettiest of cars but it's capabilities of this Gordon Murry designed car show. I own the street model and love it.

I have the TSM McLaren F1 LM and I honestly believe it's the BEST 1/18 Scale McLaren. The details are simply better than the AutoArt version in almost every way. Particular the rear exhaust area, the interior and the front grills. ABSOLUTELY IMMACULATE. The ONLY downside is the side luggage area doesn't open, but no big miss. Hope this helped anyone debating between the two!

That is not true. I have the AutoArt version lol. Both have their strengths and weaknesses. The AutoArt definitely has a better replica of the OZ racing wheels, they are way too thin and lack the engraved "F1 LM" logo on the TSM. AutoArt also has working suspension and a better stance, the TSM has no gap between wheels and front ones are tucked in a little too much. AutoArt also has a gold heat shield. On the other hand, apart from what you already stated above, the TSM has Alcantara material on the dash, better detailed gear knob, headphones, headlight and window rivets. A combination of both would probably create the best model! You are correct in it being the best 1/18 scale McLaren model because this car has some insane details due to it being a race car for the road. I have a TSM F1 GTR that I have yet to compare to my AutoArt F1 LM.

I have ordered the TSM McLaren F1 GTR Ueno Clinic model and despite some minor flaws, it looks to be a very detailed and accurate model. Given that this is my favourite car of all time, I was very contentious about choosing the Autoart or the TSM. While the TSM is undoubtedly more detailed, it actually does not look like the real car mainly because of the weird rim proportions (they are way too small and the tire offset and sizes are also off). Autoart is perfect in this regard and the gold heat shield is a bonus. Therefore, I am choosing to save up for the Autoart despite them being close to $400 CAD. I can't wait to compare the TSM F1 GTR and the Autoart F1 LM because they are still very much similar cars on the exterior.

Anyone know if the TSM 1:43 cars are worth buying, or if they are better than the HPI cars?

One of the areas the TSM model is better than the AutoArt model is that the mirrors rotate, the AA version looks nicer overall in terms of detailing (and storage compartment opens up too) and is a more solid, sturdy build, the TSM front splitter is kinda flimsy by comparison. My order arrived with a very loose rear wing strut. I was annoyed to say the least and my emails for a replacement were ignored! TSM version is a slightly larger than the AA for some reason but very nice indeed!

Good review Rob, the AutoArt version in the UK costs at least GBP100 more and for that you get an opening side luggage compartment extra over the TSM version. I didn't think the extra outlay was worth it for this one extra feature so bought the TSM like you.

    • @traviswalker8933

The compartment opened on the production versions of the F1 and thar did not have the air intake on it unlike the XP1LM which was a modified F1 GTR.

I bought this one but came with a lot of defects: missing 'passenger' rearview mirror, the engine mesh on the back is peeling off, and the other mirror had a ton of black paint (clearly overdone). So not sure how if I got unlucky or people have similar experience with TSM quality control?

@@edromeandbrossportsandcoll5706 for what it's worth I returned that one and the replacement had its own problems. Mostly fallen parts (like front spoiler) I've had cars shipped from Germany to the US and they are in perfect shape. I do think TSM models are specially finicky, heavy parts with tons of leverage glued and held by very little. Did I get unlucky twice? Maybe, but I gave up and got my money back and went for something else.
