They should bring back Tetris Attack as an esport.
Would love this
chiffmonkey agreed
just look up Tetris Attack tournaments on RUclips... your jaw will drop
I'm really surprised that Tetris Attack never showed up anywhere else =( soooooo DAMN FUCKN' AWESOME!!!!
I literally just found this game, not even a week ago, and felt like I had missed out. Is it balanced? Feels like there is a lot of luck involved when a block is cleared and random pieces appear.
Seriously, some of my most intense and epic moments in my carrer as a gamer were some tetris attack matches with friends and brothers. When you were JUST about to die and you manage chain your way back to the bottom, which in turn throws a lot of that blue or red attack blocks to the opponent, leading you to a victory... were the moments the winner would just stand up, throw the controller at the couch and shout: "FUCK YEA!!!" \o/
Truest comment ever.
Tetris Attack is the most pleasant and restful game I've ever played. It's literally Yoshi's pal hangout: he's your host, your teacher, your adventurer and your buddy - all wrapped up in one cute little game. I can literally play this for hours and never tire - possibly the sweetest thing of all is the VS. Story Mode: All 8 Pals and all 4 Rivals are sweet, cute and engaging. Since I always store my passwords, I like deliberately losing on each of Yoshi's Pals to a Rival, just to read that character's defeat comment... then backing out and doing it for real using the same password. To me, this game represents the triumph of pure innocence and eternal friendship... and who better to illustrate that than Yoshi?
This game is amazing, played today for the first time and already got addicted to it
Lol me too on my emulator. Just today. Been searching for great puzzle games across all retro systems since I realized my controller sucks at hypertapping for original Tetris so I gave up on becoming world champion on that haha
Localizing for the american market was crazy in the 90's. To bring panel de pon overseas they used yoshi instead of the original fairies and used tetris so people could recognize the brand. 'Cause god forbid kids playing with fairies.
marcianoacuerda nice one ;) didnt knew that
I own both versions but I will never not play Panel de Pon over Tetris Attack. Ultimately they are the same game with a different skin, but it somehow fits better (to me at least). I fully agree with this video. This is by far my favourite action puzzle game on the Snes, or any system for that matter. The only one that comes close is Puyo Puyo Tsuu Remix. If you've always pined for some great four player Panel de Pon split screen action, you could check out the Nintendo Puzzle Collection for the Gamecube, if you haven't already.
The original 🧚♂️ 🧚♀️ is on the Switch now almost hidden in their SNES library. Just completed it yesterday. Best vs puzzle game I've ever played.
PSA: Panel de Pon is better
Don't get me wrong, Yoshi might possibly be my favorite video game character in general for being so darn adorable and fun to play in wherever game he appears, but it feels kinda wrong here.
The rest of the cast is also pretty boring, being pretty much just random mooks. I can see how playing unknown characters might be off-putting instead of staying in your comfort zone, but the Panel de Pon fairies stand out quite a lot more imo.
So yeah, try an english patch of Panel de Pon. At the end of the day, it's exactly the same game minus voice clips and one music track being different (Yoshi's theme is absent in Panel de Pon, Cordelia's theme being absent from Tetris Attack), so trying different characters for a change isn't going to hurt.
fun fact: the Japanese version of Tetris Attack is actually called Panel De Pon
I actually am a big Yoshi fan boy, and it's the main reason I started playing this game.
Tetris Attack was one of my all time favorites back in 2008. I used to play the hell out of it back in the glorious days of reliving the 1990's.
Say what you want about Wario's Woods, but I think that the music changes during its single player campaign really contributed to the atmosphere, stress and all.
I love _Wario's Woods_ on NES and Super NES. It's a really clever puzzle game and the first game in which Birdo appears without being an enemy. That makes me wonder if, lore wise, the reason Birdo and Yoshi became love interests was a shared love for solving puzzles...
I love this game. Like it even more than actual Tetris
Hope we get a new Puzzle League game on Switch. Or just bring this over with online play! Nintendo doesn't give this series nowhere near as much love like boring Dr. Mario (in my opinion) lol
This game should have been on the SNES Classic/Mini, and they should have renamed it Yoshi's Blast.
I downloaded a ROM I can play it on my Snes mini
Indeed. Since Elorg and The Tetris Company did nothing in this game except lend the Tetris name to Nintendo, Nintendo ought to rebrand it as a Yoshi game to get around licensing issues. Either _Yoshi's Blast_ or _Yoshi's Puzzle League_ would work as a new name.
Fun fact: there is an extra hard difficulty in story mode. I didn’t know this until I finished the game as an adult on hard. This is one of the few games I have played again at a higher difficulty because I truly enjoyed the challenge. Wish this would get a re release.
Nintendo would need to rename it to drop the Tetris brand or else secure licensing from The Tetris Company and Elorg to use it again. In retrospect, Nintendo's choice to brand this game as a Tetris game was a bad move, maybe not for sales but for legacy. I propose the new name _Yoshi's Puzzle League_ to tie it to its sequel, _Pokemon Puzzle League_ on the N64.
They release it on GBA and its call puzzle league !!!
@@GuiOmania but is there a game like Tetris attack or puzzle league that you can play online?
@@TheTruth175644 no not yet !!! Or maybe Pokemon Puzzle league on the nintendo switch online expension can play online i dont know ?
Nobody I have ever met knows what this game is, and I'm capable of doing combos that get so long it starts displaying "?".
Ever heard of Sutte Hakkun? It's a Nintendo made puzzle game which was released on the BS and later on the normal SFC. Ofcourse it was never released in the west. It's really fun and worth a look.
Ah, I have fond memories of this game.
Going toe-to-toe with my cousin on versus, with each match being decided by who gets to ??? chain(if i remember that right) first.
And playing Endless at the highest level just to see how long I'll go.
yeah i f torrent links xcom ccwas really rrffcffflrrfdrdtvcddxxd dxx

Panel De Pon is the Japanese version of Tetris Attack for SNES that introduces a fairy named Lip.
This has to be one of my favorite games of all time. The import version of it "panel de pon" is totally worth checking out as well although the game play is mostly he same.
It has been 8 years since this came out and the game is still fantastic. Just had friends visit and we had a four player game (loser hands off the controller to the next player) going for a long time!
Haa!
i loved this game so much as a kid, the sound track still pops into my head every now and then. Such a well made game.
😄👍
Making a garbage block so large you cant even see it's eyes after dropping it on your opponent is literally better than sex
I guess there's no love for Kirby's Avalanche.
David Ibarra it’s basically Dr. Mario ^^
@@GruseligerZigeuner The ability to speak doesn't make you intelligent.
Both are good games. Really, which puzzle game is better of the two could come down to preference for many people.
I absolutely love this game, def a top 10 SNES game for me. The music is great, specifically Flower Stage and Fire Stage. Like SNESDrunk said, kinda cool how relaxing this game can be sometimes and how nerve-racking it can be at other times.
I remember playing this with my brothers when I was a kid. This game is awesome
You kidding? Panel de Pon / Tetris Attack is a surpreme puzzle game! Of course you can play it these days!
If nintendo bring this game back. They should call it Yoshi Puzzle Adventures. It would be so cool.
Or _Yoshi's Puzzle League_ to tie it to other Western releases of the game.
I avoided this game for the longest time without really knowing anything about it, simply because it had "Tetris" in the title. Not that I don't like Tetris. I do. But the thought that always entered my mind was "What could possibly be different about this one? It's just more TETRIS!". Come to find out it's really nothing like Tetris at all and is quite fantastic. I blame the marketing.
It may not be Tetris related in the traditional sense but it’s “Tetris attack” is there. The blocks from combos and the combos themselves as attacks. It’s a solid game and has the best controls out of any match 3 game. The freedom to move whatever whenever is great. The control over the speed of new shapes coming up. It’s still my number 1 game within its genre. Kirby Avalanche is my second. KA fits the “Tetris attack” title far better.
You should know that a Block
With the power of Shapes
Can bring you to the end of your Scoring.
And you should know by these Columns
And the look of the Screen
That you're about to be massively forced to Switch Blocks Around!
Tetris attack
Tetris attack
Watch your Array
Before it fades Away
They might look Circles and Squares and Stars
But they'll kick you to non-blocky Mars
This game is so wonderful, played loads of it as a kid and picked it up again with the original version on nintendo switch online to find it just as fun and frantic as I remembered it, finally beating it on the highest difficulty and fulfilling a life-long goal.
...But then the sadness starts to creep in. 2 decades of suffering from lack of brand identity later, the series is dead because they just weren't confident enough to let it be its own thing rather than trying to give it whatever face was marketable at the time.
"Westerners won't buy this cute game about fairies, just slap Yoshi or Pokemon on it instead"
"Hey, this Pokemon Puzzle League thing kinda reminds me of Tetris Attack"
"What are you talking about? This isn't like Tetris at all"
"What's this generic looking puzzle game on 3ds all about? Just another soulless color-matching game? No thanks"
You neglected to mention the kicker to two player games- Each player can independently set their own difficulty level. This makes it an awesome entry game for getting friends into SNES games.
This game is very awesome and very addicting.
I loved this. Graphics were neat, gameplay was tense, and fun with friends. Though I mostly played the japanese Panel de Pon version.
Short answer: Yes.
Long answer: Yeeeeeesssssssss.
I had the SNES and GB version of this game and "oh yeah!" I played them until their cartridges melted.
Tetris Attack is very good but Super Tetris 2 & Bombliss is the best Super Nintendo puzzle game.
I have a save state of the last 4 enemies in super hard story mode for when I need to loosen up my brain
This is one of the most underappreciated OSTs in game history. It is glaringly omitted from every top 25 presumably due to its lack of corny buttrock sounds that plagued every other SNES game.
I always find it ridiculously frustrating that you can't shift blocks vertically, only horizontally. It just sucks all the fun out of the game for me.
Sure, it might be way too easy if you could, but it's like I'm playing with one arm tied behind my back the way it is now.
I found the same game type hidden in Animal Crossing. Except instead of shapes it has types of fruit. Just like this game it has a survival mode, time attack, and a vs. mode, complete with relaxing and frantic panic music when the screen gets too full.
The crack cocaine of puzzle games... & I've never -not- fallen down mental wormholes while playing. Yoshi's Island content ftw.
Best puzzle game on the SNES?? What about Tsuyoshi Shikkari Shinasai for Super Famicom???
I was obsessed with Pokémon Puzzle League as a kid. I will forever lover these types of games as an adult even
Not mentioning the insane heartbeat ratio in multiplayer renders this video invalid :(
This game should have been called Yoshi's Puzzle League IMHO
I was mad when you said it had nothing to do with tetris, but you gave a good review and now I want to play it.
I used to be so good at this game. But I was sad all the time because nobody else would play it with me.
I would love a remake.
That's because this game isn't Tetris. It's Panel de Pon. They changed it for Americans.
I haven't played this so much, because I was looking for a good tetris game and this one really is not tetris. Super tetris 2 + bombliss, super tetris 3 and battle gaiden are all great tetris games. I have to try this one again.
This game looks extremely similar to Pokémon Puzzle League on the GBC, as well as on the N64. Give it a shot if you're a fan of this game!
SNBfilms Actually is the other way around.
You dumbass jk
tetris attack 1996
pokemon puzzle league 2001
yup your right Pokemon puzzle league came before tetris attack so your saying
2001 happened before 1996
seems legit
Looks very good. Ill have to try this one. Dont think Ive played it before. Puyo puyo is awesome.
Man if only he knew this was inferior to panel de pon, I mean it's not supposed to be Tetris
Super Puyo Puyo Tsuu Remix, Tetris Battle Gaiden and Tsuyoshi Shikkari Shinasai - Taisen Puzzle Dama are the best puzzle games on snes/sfc, imo.
my personal top 4 puzzle games
1. Tetris
2. Tetris Attack
3. Pokemon Puzzle League
4. Dr. Mario
This game is definitely worth playing today!! Great puzzle action, beautiful graphics for SNES, great music....PLAY IT NOW!!
Aries FireTiger 2 and 3 are practically the same game.
+Aries FireTiger Give Super Puzzle Fighter 2 and Puyo Puyo a try.
hell ya it should still be played today. hell i even bought a snes and this game to relive my childhood i was 8 in 1996 now 20 yrs later. i still play it
Pokémon puzzle on the n64 is the same game. But sounds more fun.
The puzzle against Bowser is by far one of the most difficult I have ever come across in this game. Where you're clearing each world with 10 levels.
The final SNES game I purchased back in the day. I think the 'Tetris' branding worked not to be literal yet to suggest Tetris' calibre of addictive puzzle play.
There's an unofficial translation of original Panel de Pon too for those who like little girls more than Yoshi. It's all-around more pleasant looking, so those playing this on emulator should definitely check that one out too.
If you like this game you should play the Magical Drop series. I used to play it a lot on the NeoGeo but I know it was ported to the SNES.
As a youngster me and my sister played the crap outta this game
They gave me this at blockbuster free with any rental and I played it more than the game i wanted to rent. Brilliant marketing there. Good review bro.
best puzzle game in the history of puzzle games, it can get so deep there could be an entire professional league based on just this game
Tetris Attack is intense! It is one of the best puzzle games of all time. It is very competitive as well. I love this game!
Such a fun game. My wife used to be supernaturally good at it, and I'm pretty sure I never beat her.
I love Tetris Attack though I think Pokémon Puzzle League is the definitive version of this game. More challenging and has cylinder mode.
panel de pon on the gamecube is the definitve version i think.
This used to be one of my favorite games me and my friends will play for hours as grown ups young adults
Great game 2 weeks ago I played 49 victory's on vs, 3 hours around there we played
I still play this on my Android emulator. Very neat. Way better than the Pokemon Panel de Pon.
It's what the switch needs. Hell they can even add to it by doing handled mode do battle with someone else through Bluetooth
Personal favorite puzzle game.
Nice review. This game looks pretty cool. Might pick it up as a result of this video.
no best puzzle game is warios woods, period
I see that graphical filter you got....
appreciate retro graphics man :P
EGM used to rave about this game.
you can "attack" you opponents in two player mode by making combos
This is one of the best SNES games period for its head to head play alone.
Playing together under the clearest of blue skies
I would take this to a desert island
The music. The music.
I love this game very much
Are u playing these games in the vids?? Not the best (not that I'm any better in any way) just askin, looove ur vids
Yes that is me playing
SNES drunk keep makin em n I'll keep watchin
Excelent review! thank you!
Tetris Attack is the best Snes game ever
One of my favorites addictive af
It's true! I loooove this game!
I love it, very nice game
best puzzle game ever made
I really do enjoy and have "liked" almost all your videos because not only are they good reviews, you rarely use foul language; although none would be preferred. There are plenty of other choices of words that can be used to portray your dissatisfaction of something. If I must, for most vulgarity, I can cringe and just move on if it's rare, but when GD's or JC's are used, that's where I gotta draw the line. At the very least, I would really appreciate it if you would refrain from using GD's and JC's. I do appreciate all the effort you put in to making these videos.
'Tetris Attack is good. But Warios Woods is waaaaaaaaaay better. If you get heavily competitive and start to get the hang of it, it's the most hardcore game of all times...!!!!!!
Do you still call this game ''Tetris Attack''? It's Panel de Pon... Go and play the original game, or Puyo Puyo...
Tetris Attack has better music and the Yoshi characters are just straight up more relatable.
The music is the same between both.
Not entirely. Most of the tracks are the same.
lol it's Tetris Attack.
I mean, that's the name that's printed on the box and cartridge, and displayed on the title screen, right? Just because we now know that it's a reskin of Panel De Pon doesn't magically change those things.
Omg i found my dads Nintendo with this today
Loved this game when I was younger especially playing it with someone else
