One of the best games in all eternity. Potentially the best moment of my life was playing this game with my best friend and his family. I would give anything to go back and relive this memory of staying up until 2am playing this.
Yeah there's a million different ports of regular tetris on every single console and even PC and phones etc. But Tetris Attack was always better than Tetris, and it still is. It had absolutely nothing to do with tetris, they just named it that for marketing porpoises. But it's so much fun. It's MILES miles better than Tetris 2 was. Does anyone else remember Tetris 2? I've tried for a few years to get into that, playing it again every so often, but it's just so finicky and annoying and seems to dispense with what made tetris great. But it definitely is still tetris, unlike tetris attack which is not even remotely like tetris. I wish Tetris Attack was on modern systems, and got the treatment that regular tetris gets. Like I love the game Tetris Effect which is like an insanely trippy version of tetris, just search for videos of it. There's even a VR version of it when I plan to get once I buy a VR headset for my PS5. But it just makes me sad that there's no Tetris Attack Effect or something like that. But yeah, I guess we don't really need them anyway. Tetris Attack for SNES, or for gameboy, is just as fun and addictive as ever. It's a simple game really, all the best puzzle games are, tetris included. So we don't really need a new version on modern consoles. I just thought it'd be nice if we did. It wouldn't be called Tetris Attack anymore anyway, it'd be called something like Panel de Pon (it's original Japanese name)
OK I just googled it just now out of curiosity to see if there's any modern ports of tetris attack or something under another name. And apparently, it's very very similar to Candy Crush? Which I've never played before. But no WONDER candy crush is redonkulously popular and has made over a billion dollars and is regarded as about as addictive as heroin. Because it's just tetris attack! Nintendo seem to own the actual specific tetris attack gameplay though. Because they continued releasing new ones for a while under the name Puzzle League. Like there was a Pokemon Puzzle League game, and an Animal Crossing Puzzle League game, but the most recent one Nintendo have made is for the Nintendo DS, so a long time ago really I really bloody wish they'd release a new one. I don't really like playing games online much at all. But if a new puzzle league/tetris attack came out, I'd DEFINITELY play it against other people online. Nobody else can release a new version, because Nintendo owns it. But Nintendo refuse to release a new one themselves. They have ported the SNES version to the Nintendo online service, but that's just a port of an old game, and you can't play it online against other people, so it's still not good enough. Like come on, this is incredibly simple, a developer could knock out a new version of the game for the Switch in only a few weeks, cos it's not really that deep or complex. And I mean, the Tetris vs Puyo Puyo games for switch are a hell of a lot of fun, they're still just tetris and Puyo Puyo with not much changed at all, but it's just all very innovative and fun in a new way. Like there's a story mode to it, with cut scenes and everything. So why not do that but with tetris attack/puzzle league? Would be simple to develop, would make a lot of money because people would get addicted and rave about it and so word of mouth would spread about it and get more people to play it, and having an online mode, as well as online leader boards for the highest scores in the world and so on, would add a lot to it. But expecting Nintendo to do something that makes logical sense is a silly thing to do, I guess.
@@duffman18Basically the most modern way to play this is on nintendo switch online. It being on there as the original panel de pon communicates to me that nintendo has some interest in keeping the IP public

It's been so long! I've been trying to find this game for a while now. It's been years since I've seen this game and now it brings back hella good memories.
I love this game! You're amazing. You think about 5 steps ahead in your chains. Truly impressive, I am not as good as you, but I would love to battle you. That would be cool.
Was a former competitive Tetris Attack WAY back in the day (like 20 years ago lol) and getting back into it with Panel de Pon. I'd battle you! If you a Switch, Nintendo has the Japanese version on its SNES online service :)
Here, they've shown us the very last ending. But, when you play the game... you have to work your way up! You go through Normal, then Hard, then Hardest... and, then, they tell you that you have to beat Bowser decisively, by getting through the Hardest mode without any losses (with Yoshi). It's really well done. As you get better... you keep on "unlocking" more challenges.
I don’t know how your mind can see into the future and register how to set those combos up that fast man, that’s crazy, my best friend growing up used to do that too I was always just a decent defensive player lol
I remember playing story mode and ALWAYS LOST against the Piranha plant. I never got to Kamek, nor Bowser. Wouldn’t stand a chance. Anyone else found the koopa troopa creepy?
I just got into panel de pon on snes online, and I learned how to be good at tetris by watching good tetris players, so I figured the same would happen with panel de pon. I cannot comprehend this whatsoever. I'm failing at stage 8 on normal over and over, and you're here just crushing hard mode while my tiny brain can't even keep up with the combos.
they released a different version on the snes on the nintendo switch edit: to the person who replied to me then deleted it it is not a chinese ripoff as it came out first
by the looks of it, he also applied the B-A-L-L code. That explains why Bowser died after doing an x8 chain. That code makes the panels keep rising, like you are at L10 speed, just without the L10 rising and the extra panel.
Anyone with a nintendo switch online subscription, the Japanese version came out for the super Nintendo virtual console. Its practically the same game (only in Japanese and with different characters)
One important note: the CPU in Panel de Pon is far less aggressive - it focuses more on combos than chains. Just watching the Kamek and Bowser fights... they start on the attack very quickly. In Panel de Pon, they never raised their stacks near the top and tried to bury me with chains lol As a puzzle game fiend, I prefer a more aggressive CPU but Panel de Pon is fun as well :)
I enjoyed playing a hard [computer] on a regular 2 player game with the CPU mode on, setting the mode on easy for the CPU, and just 'perform' a lot of 'chains' and 'combos'. When I cleared 30, about 10 whole 'garbage blocks' would fall. But the CPU isn't 'skilled' enough to avoid losing in [EASY] mode. So the challenge would almost always end when I performed a 13 chain...unfortunately...since I always wanted the match to last. However long. So I had to play a little easier and leave room at the top for the computer. Then after about 10 minutes, I would have a total of 10 gray [shock] panels. I liked how the music cuts off and the sound/voice of my character echoes. I liked clearing all 10 shock panels in a combo by performing a chain then a total of 8 gray [shock] garbage blocks would fall on the computer's side. Sometimes, I played easy enough and for long enough, that eventually, there would be no room above the screen for more garbage blocks, and when the first thick garbage block to fall to that height, way above the screen, only a portion of it would be present once lowered. It would be as if a top part of the giant garbage block had been sliced horizontally. I always wished that I could play the game with someone as good as me, and the match would go on and on without anyone losing. So just many many chains being performed, the sound effects, the fanfares, clearing the garbage blocks, performing many chains and combos by transforming the bottom layer of giant garbage blocks and then the blocks falling and chains and combos are performed. When a 25 chain or more is performed, there is no sound effect when a greater chain is performed. Just like when clearing 3, there's no sound effect the moment of the alignment.
So Panel de Pon, Lip is dubbed the fairy queen after proving herself and saving the land. Tetris Attack, a little Yoshi shows up and everyone is happy to be rid of Bowser... yeah, I'm okay with this outcome.
Do you remember those epic fights at the speed of light in dragon ball z? Well, that's what practically happened at home between me and my mom when we played this game back in the 90s
