Theres a memorial off the highway going south through Mississippi. Wife and I stopped by on the way back from Louisiana. Very solemn spot. Large marble tributes to the band are there. Something to see if your going through Mississippi.
The memorial is on the West side of Interstate 55. I live about 15 minutes away from the memorial. It's worth making a detour to see it. Very professional memorial! R. I. P. Lynyrd Skynyrd, until we meet again.
growing up I listened to skynyrd with my dad here & there but never figured to look up their history till maybe a year ago while just randomly listening to them. I never knew about the plane crash & coincidentally it’s not very far from some property my family owns. got the chance to go see the memorials recently & it was surreal to imagine how the scene must’ve gone down. Then just as I got into them again after reading their history, I checked the news to see Gary’s death. it was wild to have this all develop how it did for me, but it’s definitely a sad history, though a good history in that it brought us their music to enjoy even today. RIP Skynyrd
Gary Rossington was possibly the most humble rock star ever, always so grateful and thankful to the fans, the 2 times i met him he spoke to my wife and i just like he knew us for years and did every other fan the same way that i seen meet him, just a true Christian southern man. His whole family was that way wife two daughters and a nanny all of them first class. Built an addition onto his house in the mid 90s. Met the band all of them first class.

Man his face really changed after he started aging, especially around his mouth. Almost looked like a different person, but it was him. Nobody ever sounded like him. And he was an expert on a Les Paul.

Gary did make the statement that he woke up with plane door on him & he tried to push it off then started yelling for Dean Kilpatrick to get this damn door off me & he did. However the Drs said that couldn't possibly have happened bacause Dean either died on impact or was so broken that he couldn't have done it. Gary maintains it happened. I believe in miracles & if Dean was already deceased maybe that was his last act before going to heaven. Gary & Dean went way back before any of the others knew him. Dean was friends w/Judy Van Zant.

Long story. I KNOW he wrote the intro to Sweet Home Alabama. I found an interview with him saying that. I've had 10 people say Ed King wrote it. I got tired of repeating Gary actually wrote it. I took it out if the video for my sanity.

Yeah he was a real family man and wasn't into drugs. He loves our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and he loved playing music. He did have a heart condition and had a heart attack several years ago and he had heart surgery. I don't know his actual cause of death but I think they said he had another heart attack. He was a good guy. RIP GARY 🙏✝️🕊️🎸🎶🦅🇺🇲❤️

Long story. I KNOW he wrote the intro to Sweet Home Alabama. I found an interview with him saying that. I've had 10 people say Ed King wrote it. I got tired of repeating Gary actually wrote it. I took it out if the video for my sanity.

Yeah he was a real family man and wasn't into drugs. He loves our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and he loved playing music. He did have a heart condition and had a heart attack several years ago and he had heart surgery. I don't know his actual cause of death but I think they said he had another heart attack. He was a good guy. RIP GARY 🙏✝️🕊️🎸🎶🦅🇺🇲❤️
