  • www.makeyourow... -- This in-depth instructional video will teach you how to make a silicone mold of glassware and also how to cast a functional, edible, breakaway sugar glass in the shape of Martini, Champagne, Wine and Beer glasses. A sugar glass will hold your favorite beverage, crunch sweetly when eaten and break safely over one's head or when thrown in a fireplace. These distinctive confections have become very popular when used in cake decorating, especially with sugar bottles shown in the video, "How to Make a Sugar Bottle Mold." Sugar Glass, in the shape of popular glassware designs, can also be used as props in the production of movies and plays where the glass needs to be broken safely. Commonly referred to as "breakaway glass" the stage craft manager and/or prop designer can benefit greatly from the knowledge they will gain from this video. How to use Isomalt sugar to create sugar glassware is also covered with valuable information on how to use silica gel packets to preserve the shine and integrity of sugar glass for months. Sugar Martini Glass, Sugar Champagne Glass, Sugar Wine Glass, Sugar Beer Glass

    I have to say, to all the people making rude comments, no one made you watch. Man up or woman up and find something else. Takes a really courageous person to make snarky comments from a computer behind an avatar. There's nothing wrong with explaining how to do something correctly so that anyone who would like to try can.

    all these people saying this is stupid and that "they dont have time for this" do not understand this project. its art and it helps someone better learn the art of mold making and casting, this is a very valuable tool to know and can be applied in many other fields. i love the idea of learning not only to make sugar glasses but learning how to make the molds them self.

      @@lincolnpervertproject1776 The secret basically is to make sure you never move the glass in your mouth, you just sort of gently "coax" it around. Glass cuts through a slicing motion, but if you keep it between your molars and keep gingerly crushing it, you'll eventually reduce it to what is effectively sand.

    I thought most of this video was so much work, but it turns out most of the work is making the mould! Can you use it multiple times? Do you have to clean it after to make sure the other glassware stays perfect? How come it has to be stored airtight? Great work, by the way! you really put a lot of effort into this!

    • @CoolKoon
      @CoolKoon 9 лет назад +11

      QueenofPancakes5260 Of course that most of the work is making the mold! What'd you expect?
      Yes, you can use the mold multiple times, it'll take quite some wear and tear before it falls apart.
      If the mold would sit somewhere for a long time then I'd certainly give it a light rinsing (and perhaps wash it with soap too), but if not, then I don't see a point in washing it on a constant basis.
      The final products are made from sugar, so if you wouldn't store it in an airtight container, insects (all sorts of bugs, especially ants) would find it in no time.

    • @Andrew.Gooding
      @Andrew.Gooding 9 лет назад +8

      +CoolKoon I think the air tight container is more to combat the humidity in the air than the bugs. Hence the reason he has the gel pack in there, It removes the humidity inside.

    I stumbled across this video and ended up actually watching it because molding in general (aesthetic and functional pieces) interests me. I understand this video was made in 2011 but the music reminds me of being in school watching an educational video in the 90's. I watched the entire video because this is one of the best tutorials (on any subject) I've seen. Clear audible consistent speech, good explanations, and a clean & proper work station made the video; even with the 90's music. Thanks for the content. I will be checking out your website you and asking about molds for non food grade functional purposes.

      +KGiustOD I for one am disgusted. I gagged. How are we supposed to know how to let the mold cure if we don't see it? Major downfall of this video. I tried to do this at home and failed miserably because of this. There was sugar and silicone all over my floor and my cat ate a piece of it and choked to death. I am currently talking to lawyers about pressing chargers against this so-called Dominic the meatball breath cat killer.

    Really Cool. I think demoing with wine is kind of weird, I mean no one wants to taint their wine/beer with sugar. However if I were a restaurant owner I could make a very memorable desert with chocolate versions and fill them with moose, creme brule, fruit, etc etc.

    I find amusing the brand names used for common stuff. "Tube-it" and "safe-d-clay" really? I suspect that's so these supplies can be sold at a ridiculous price.
    Surprised no registration pins in the mold. You had some roughness that would help, but seems like something someone new might mess up.
    Neat result, though.

    • @thedemonreupblican5803
      @thedemonreupblican5803 9 лет назад

      Pete Brown tbh i would imagine you could use some bye this stuff at a hard ware store for a pretty cheap price lol and also why would you need seperate kits for seperate glasses come on you use the same stuff all we need to do is use a different glass in the cut out and molding proccess :P

    • @mjSnap
      @mjSnap 9 лет назад +5

      Pete Brown That's a bit unfair. Those are known brand names for a reason. They WORK for the intended purpose, and leave no toxic residue, which is important since these things will contain food and can be eaten themselves. If you buy a fly-by-night company's version of Safe D Clay, you can't be guaranteed the end product will be safe to consume. There's more to brand names than simply a higher price, especially in the crafting industry. There's a level of trust for the known brand names. You can't just use any clay or other materials for this.

    • @mjSnap
      @mjSnap 9 лет назад +1

      Camrin Cleavenger You could kill someone if you try to make this mold with supplies from a hardware store. My god, don't be stupid. Everything used has to be FOOD SAFE.

    • @Psychlist1972
      @Psychlist1972 9 лет назад +5

      Ultimist It's quite easy to find food-safe clay, resin, and silicon molding materials. The rest (the "Tube-it" cardboard tube, for example) don't need to be food-safe. "Fly by night company's version" is a wonderful scare tactic. If the stuff is labeled food-safe and sold in the US, it's food-safe. Don't try to make people think it's just small rip-off companies trying to sell knock-offs of Safe-d-Clay when Safe-D-Clay is almost certainly someone else's product, repackaged.
      I suppose you pay for convenience, but I still find the brand names pretty silly.

    • @Psychlist1972
      @Psychlist1972 9 лет назад +4

      Ultimist
      "Everything used has to be FOOD SAFE."
      All Polymer clay sold in the US is non-toxic, so is most non-hardening sculpting clay. Non-hardening clay simply can't be food safe. It doesn't harden into something that can be used to store food, survive the dishwasher, etc.
      In any case, you don't need "food-safe" (which has a specific meaning in the US), you just need non-toxic. Food-safe would be required if you were storing or serving food in it, washing it, etc. In this case, the clay is part of the molding process and removed prior to you pouring in the sugar. Any residual clay, if non-toxic, is a non-issue.
      I highly doubt the clay here has been tested to be truly labeled food-safe. Can it be run through a high-temp dishwasher multiple times? Can it hold up to bleach? Clay just isn't made to be used that way.
      You can find non-toxic non-hardening synthetic clay anywhere you find mold-making materials.

    Hello Dominic,
    May I make a suggestion?
    Despite of cut your mold with the knife, it will be easy use a rigid plastic as that xray film to pre divide your mold.
