I loved Warbraker. It was my introduction to Sanderson, and I love the characters. Vivenna and Vasher are my favorites, but Suseborn, Siri and Lightsong are also amazing. Besides that, the world and the magic system are amazing. Nightblood is also one of my favorites.
I really like how raw this review is, thank you. Its not over the top, it's not edited every two seconds, and it is just... honest and informative. Keep up the reviews. You got a new sub!
May contain SPOILERS so don't read my comment unless you finished this book.... I really loved this book! I felt that the ending felt kind of rushed though. But once again in typical Sanderson fashion, he is able to create another unique and creative magic system. I hope this is going to be a series because I want to read more about Vi and Vasher's adventures. They were my favorite couple in the book. One of my favorite fantasy tropes though it's used often is the princess falling in love with the mercenary. Anyway one of my favorite standalone books and happy that you enjoyed it.
I loved those characters too! Actually, I really liked most of them 😆 The ending felt slightly rushed, but I think that was in part because we didn’t get a whole lot of wrap up. Everything ended, but there wasn’t much “this is what happened after” type material. Idk, does that make sense? 🤔
Elliot Brooks Haha I get what you mean. The solution to the problem is given at the end but the results aren't given to the reader and Vi and Vasher set off on another adventure. The book could have had a longer epilogue. Other than that little problem, the book was great.
Ohhh, it’s your favorite? That’s awesome! :D I’d love to see another one too. I’ve heard that if he does another, he’d probably have different characters. That’d be interesting :)
This was definitely different in terms of the pacing and the humor, I need more books like that in my life lol I related so much to Vivenna's character arch, although Siri's the one that spoke to my soul.. I just love this book so much! I really need more of this world!
The way you described the two sisters is similar to how I felt. I think I found I liked Siri’s character more, but I liked seeing how Vivenna changed through the story 💗 I hope we see more of them soon!
I am really glad you mentioned the other character some other reviewer I watch didn't mention and said there were 3 main characters instead of 4. Why is everyone afraid of naming him? Is his name THAT spoilery (I don't mean his title, I mean the short 6 letter name he has in the narrative)? Can't ppl say he's a mysterious character who is somehow connected to the other 3 main characters?
Ahhh omg I CANNOT wait to read this book it’s been on my amazon wish list for ever and it just sounds so good but I’m trying to have a little self control and finish the mistborn trilogy first before I buy more of Sanderson works
I noticed that he uses the same descriptions as well! Also in Mistborn but not as much. Used “ostentatious” a lot. Loved the book and I’m glad you noticed the same thing I did.
Wow! Elliot you deserve a big 🏆 for summarising a book of that size & caliber lol 😁. I think Brandon Sanderson may be one of your top 5 favorite authors. Warbreaker sure does have a lot going on in. I like that they include some humor in it cuz idk if i could survive a book without at least some humor & action. lightsung sounds like a pretty chill dude lol. Godking sounds like a grumpy savage lol. All in all i enjoyed this & of course you get a 👍. Enjoy your weekend & reading
This was a solid enough book with an interesting premise and far less depressing than Mistborn (which I just finished before); but true I had honest laughs from this book
just found out about your channel and the fact that you're talking about brandon sanderson's books aaand that I can see the riyria revelations books just behind you made me subscribe haha great review btw, keep it up :)
I loved this book. I was so excited about it being a stand alone but according to Goodreads there’s a second one titled Nightblood. But according to Sanderson like two years ago he said don’t hold your breath lol.
Graphic Audio.net has Warbreaker in a radio drama format. Music, full cast of voice actors, sound effects. Closest thing we'll get to a Warbreaker movie. BTW - You have alot of UK covers for living in PHX.
It's kind of a shame that you've read Stormlight Archive before Warbreaker because... you know. But anyway, I love Warbreaker, to me it's a second best Sanderson book, with The Way of Kings in the first place, it's a shame it's not as much talked about as the Mistborn or Stormlight and I'm very happy that you also liked it.
I also read warbreaker after oathbringer and half way through warbreaker I was wait.... wait.... wait.... I am kind of really sad I didn’t read warbreaker first I would have love to know how long it would have taken me to figure it out... lol
It’s funny, I actually didn’t mind reading Oathbringer first. I felt like I was getting Easter eggs in reverse 😆 But I’m going to reread Stormlight in preparation for the next one, so I’ll get to see it all again :D
Lightsong is such a.... mwah. Love that funky man- especially at the end. genuinely emotionally touching. Super glad this was such a contained novel. Also: Nightblood :) Spoilers: kind of wish the God-King and Ciri didn't end up in a relationship. Dude literally didn't even know what sex was until he was in the process of having it - with Seri. I feel like they're dynamic would've been the same with just a friendship. I could never get behind the relationship
I did not know they were all in the same universe, thats amazing! I've only seen Warbreaker recently but it sounds so good. I want to finish the Mistborn series first.
This was a great book! Agreed, character development was outstandingly done. Seeing how the characters were or changed over time, this is the first book that ever made me very emotional/cry. I’ll never forget this therefore.
Great review! 😍❤ I'm really looking forward to reading some of Brandon Sanderson's books. 🙄 But of course, I'll be starting with the First Era Mistborn trilogy. (These are, so far, the only books of his that I own!) 😄❤
Hi Elliot. What do you think about Siri's contribution to the final efforts during the climax? I had a great growth arc and had influenced a lot during the book. But I feel at the end she was relegated to a damsel and that left me disappointed. I loved the book, still, and wish there was more.
so happy you loved it!!🤩 I love this book so damn much! Then again I’ve yet to hate any Sanderson book🙈 Loved alll of the characters especially Lighsong, Siri, the God King and two others who I’m afraid to mention on account of maybe being a spoiler. 😍
Haha, I seriously was so surprised at how much I liked the God King. I mean...I don’t want anyone to be spoiled by this comment, but he was not what I expected at all and I loved it 😆
Elliot Brooks tell me about it! I was like whaaa!? 😆 nothing is as it seems and that’s what I absolutely loved throughout the narrative. And it was so refreshingly light. So unlike Sanderson LOL
I'm about to finish this book and I decided to watch your review because I started stressing out about the ending. I've been listening to it as an audiobook and I just needed to know that everything turns out okay and it's worth finishing.
I'm not gonna lie, I loved Nightblood the most. As far as the non-human characters go, he was by far my favourite. I'm so glad you liked Warbreaker as a whole. (now you know who from Warbreaker appears in The Archive! :D) What about Elantris? Did you finish it?
Can't believe they added the immortal tid bit on the back of the book. Glad I didn't read the synopsis beforehand. Would have ruined part of the awesome mystery!
Im so happy you finally read it!!! You are on a roll and im so happy for you... currently reading the second mistborn book and got children or blood and bone today 🎉🎉🎉
I'm only 9 chapters in, but I can't help but be reminded of Catherine the Great, famous Russian Tsar. Born Princess Sophia of Anhalt-Zerbst, she was a German princess sent to marry Peter III partly to smooth relations between Prussia and Russia and to provide Peter with an heir. Having said all that, so far I'm not a fan. The story seems rushed, there's a lot of telling instead of showing, and the characters don't seem that "real" to me.
I have a prerecorded video going up Monday about that :D at the moment I’ll say no, but there are some different possible reading orders that have some varying pros and cons.
I know Elliot will cover this in a video, but I'll answer anyway. If you read it in a certain order, there will be cool easter eggs and stuff that you can notice, but that's not really a big deal. The only thing I'd say is I probably wouldn't start with Stormlight Archive. Stormlight is pretty much Brandons masterpiece, his magnum opus. It's much bigger, more detailed and slower paced than than his other books. His best work according to most(me included, though I havn't read everything). It's what you want to get to eventually. However, it can be daunting to get into Stormlight because it's 10 books, far from finished, every book is ~1200 pages and the first book book is pretty slow during the first ~800 pages. If you read something like Mistborn first, which is an easier read, you will learn to trust that Brandon will give you a huge payoff in the end. Without that trust, you might give up when it's going slow. Also, if you've read Stormlight, which is so incredibly big and ambitious, you might be disappointed in some of his other stuff. Now you don't have to read every other novel before Stormlight, but start with something like Mistborn to get a feel for Sanderson and if you like it, you'll love Stormlight. Hope this helps! :)
My personal preference for cosmere order (although it does not really matter) is Mistborn series 1 (aka Vinn’s story), then Warbreaker, then I would read stormlight archive... I think you could also read Elantris before stormlight but it is really what ever you want to do. If you search this on the internet there are a lot of different orders and different opinions on it.
Sanderson is amazing. I have no idea how he can create new storys, new magic systems, new characters etc. And always is somethink new, it's hard to find inspiration in the books of another authors or history our world. And that how he's writing about this everythink... oh my gosh, I can't stop read his books. I would like to have imagination like Sanderson :)
Right?!? I know it sounds pretty fangirl of me to say this, but I kinda feel like he’s a creative genius. Especially when you hear about how some of the details and events in his books are connected :O

I'm so glad you liked this one! Warbreaker is my favorite Sanderson, and possibly my favorite book over all. Do you know about the Warbreaker character cameos in the Stormlight books? They were one of my favorite parts of Oathbringer. Loved the video!
I wasn’t able to finish it due to the prose, the very bad “wit”, and Sanderson telling, not showing everything. He has great imagination though, but one could easily tell that he writes very fast and doesn’t take his time to develop great prose and wit.
I thought the first Mistborn was pretty good, but as an entire trilogy I loved it. Each book gets better as it goes. Saying the writing is atrocious doesn’t seem to be BYU’s opinion as they have him as a writing professor there. But to each their own :)
Michael Barbera please read the ending I just finished mistborn about a week ago and I was thing the same that the story is a bit boring and the only character I really cared about was Ellend but then I read the ending and my opinion completely changed just wow I still think about it and that rarely happens to me
That’s funny, I think Rothfuss’s writing is overly wordy and too flowery (for me). I prefer a more direct writing style. I think it’s just a difference of opinion and taste though :)
Not as popular because it's a standalone. When it comes to fantasy, people look for nice fat series. Sanderson's standalone pieces are never as popular (Elantris, Emperor's, this). Good review.
I absolutely loved this book. Lightsong was hilarious
Gah, Lightsong is awesome!
Squirrel!
The God King I think is one of my favourite characters.
He’s so fantastic! I was not expecting him to be the way he was but I loved him 💜💜💜
Kiki Kannibal he was an unexpected cinnamon roll tbh
I loved Warbraker. It was my introduction to Sanderson, and I love the characters. Vivenna and Vasher are my favorites, but Suseborn, Siri and Lightsong are also amazing. Besides that, the world and the magic system are amazing. Nightblood is also one of my favorites.
Light song reminds me of Wit in The Way Of Kings. And the Sword reminds me of Kaladin's Syl in the same book.
I know you dont mean it in a bad way but the way you say "kaladin's Syl" feels wrong...
I’ve heard theories stating that Ghostblood is actually Vasher’s attempt at making a shard blade, because at some point his group traveled to Roshar.
Nah bro light song better than wit he clears
I really like how raw this review is, thank you. Its not over the top, it's not edited every two seconds, and it is just... honest and informative. Keep up the reviews. You got a new sub!

I feel the rushed ending bit lightsong didn't get a funeral, siri ahd viv didn't spend to much time together considering everything
I literally just finished Warbreaker and came to check out your review. I personally think it is S tier Sanderson. I thought it was just amazing.
Great review! Probably my favorite Brandon Sanderson book. I wish he would continue this series.
Ohhh, it’s your favorite? That’s awesome! :D I’d love to see another one too. I’ve heard that if he does another, he’d probably have different characters. That’d be interesting :)

See, and the way they describe the God King ends up making him more mysterious, cuz the whole time your like...is that really what he’s like?!? 😮

is there romance in it? cause i think i read somewhere that this was a sanderson book for people who liked romance
There definitely is :) And it’s actually kinda cute. Not what I was expecting at all 😊
I'm currently reading it and I CAN't get through it I'm so sad
I loved this book. I was so excited about it being a stand alone but according to Goodreads there’s a second one titled Nightblood. But according to Sanderson like two years ago he said don’t hold your breath lol.
Yeah, I’ve heard if we get a sequel, it won’t be for awhile :/ But that’s ok, I liked it as a stand alone!
"don't hold your breath"
I saw what you did there. ;)
Graphic Audio.net has Warbreaker in a radio drama format. Music, full cast of voice actors, sound effects. Closest thing we'll get to a Warbreaker movie. BTW - You have alot of UK covers for living in PHX.
Really liked the book
Really surprised that i enjoyed this so much
But the ending
Bruh

So now that you’ve read it... was Peter Dinklage the voice of Lightsong in your head?? 🙈
ellstaveley yes, 100%!!! 😄
About to start reading this. This observation will probably really help with my immersion, lol.
I did not know they were all in the same universe, thats amazing! I've only seen Warbreaker recently but it sounds so good. I want to finish the Mistborn series first.
That’s understandable. Mistborn in its entirety is pretty great :D
This was a great book! Agreed, character development was outstandingly done. Seeing how the characters were or changed over time, this is the first book that ever made me very emotional/cry. I’ll never forget this therefore.
There's a character named Ciri. Sold on the Witcher reference alone.
Haha, it’s spelled with an S, but we’ll take it :P
Great review! 😍❤ I'm really looking forward to reading some of Brandon Sanderson's books. 🙄
But of course, I'll be starting with the First Era Mistborn trilogy. (These are, so far, the only books of his that I own!) 😄❤
I hope you love them!!! And if you have a hard time getting into it at first, don’t worry-I did too! But they get amazingly better as they go 💙
Elliot Brooks Thank you! 😙 I'll definitely stick with it. I'm hoping to love all three books! 😄📚❤
Hi Elliot. What do you think about Siri's contribution to the final efforts during the climax? I had a great growth arc and had influenced a lot during the book. But I feel at the end she was relegated to a damsel and that left me disappointed. I loved the book, still, and wish there was more.

I'm about to finish this book and I decided to watch your review because I started stressing out about the ending. I've been listening to it as an audiobook and I just needed to know that everything turns out okay and it's worth finishing.
Worth it! It was a great story
Just finished this one, so happy I picked it up. Enjoyed it far more than I was expecting.
I just checked this out from my library! I'm reading this and then diving back into Renthia with The Deepest Blue 😍
I'm not gonna lie, I loved Nightblood the most. As far as the non-human characters go, he was by far my favourite.
I'm so glad you liked Warbreaker as a whole. (now you know who from Warbreaker appears in The Archive! :D)
What about Elantris? Did you finish it?
Haha, Nightblood is awesome 😆 And just about :)
I enjoyed warbreaker a lot great characters and interesting power being used. An amazing world with deep history ❤️
When will release Nightblood (Warbreaker, #2)?
Ohh perfect timing, I had a random notion to read this so I've just ordered it. Curious as to what a Branderson stand alone is like :O
did you like it?
Ordered this book right away! You make them all seem so interesting. I’m wondering did you get the Raymond Feist care package yet?
No! But I’ll have to check soon. I’ll be at my dad’s for the next couple of days but I’ll check as soon as I’m back home :D
Elliot Brooks tell your dad we hope he’s feeling a lot better.
Can't believe they added the immortal tid bit on the back of the book. Glad I didn't read the synopsis beforehand. Would have ruined part of the awesome mystery!
Do you have to of read the other books to understand Warbreaker?
I'm 30 percent in, and I'm on RUclips watching people rave about this book because, omg it's so good.
Great review! In-depth and spoiler free. Nicely done. Can't wait to read it.
Did you ever read the Watcher series by Sergei Lukyanenko? I have read the first 3 books and they are great!
No, but I own the first one! :D
Im so happy you finally read it!!! You are on a roll and im so happy for you... currently reading the second mistborn book and got children or blood and bone today 🎉🎉🎉
Oh yay!!! You’ll have to keep me updated on what you think of both of them :D

Hi!!! I can’t wait to read this book I’m excited 😊 thank u for the reviews!!
I hope you like it!
Elliot Brooks I’m reading at the moment “that shadow of what was lost” by James Islington it’s amazing fantasy book check out soon!! 😄
I need to!!! I’ll try to find it at my local used bookstores :)
Elliot Brooks u should the first two books are out!! 😄😄
Loved this book and really enjoyed reading it on the podcast!
Love Heir of Novron behind you. Michael Sullivan is a must
Warbreaker was brilliant ! Super funny too
Cool! I haven't read this one yet. Going on my ever-growing TBR! 😁😁 📚📚
I really enjoyed it!!! Definitely a faster paced Sanderson book :)
Yes! In one of polish site about books i have read theory, that Sanderson sold his soul to the devil :D Definietly his one of the best author in entire world :)
Now I want to read this book even more!! Great review!!!
Thanks! I hope you enjoy the book :D
Hated this book after reading The Reckoner series and I had problems with that too. This book was painfully slow. I felt like I would read 3 hours and got nothing of value plot wise. It was harder to read than Sharp Objects and that's saying something. 2/5
i'm glad you made a review of this. I will read the copy you sent me for the giveaway after I graduate in a few weeks :)
Well first off, happy graduation :D how exciting! And second, I enjoyed making it! Hopefully you’ll like the book 😊
I LOVE your book reviews!
Thank you!!!
I had no idea this followed female characters! That BUMBED it up on my TBR
I know! I had no idea either. Tbh, I didn’t really even know what it was about 😆
I know this is an old review but I am almost done reading this and I agree with everything you said. Except I didn’t notice the eyebrows 😂
I am a sucker for political intrigue too! This is so good idk why I’m not finishing it right now
I'm so glad you liked this one! Warbreaker is my favorite Sanderson, and possibly my favorite book over all. Do you know about the Warbreaker character cameos in the Stormlight books? They were one of my favorite parts of Oathbringer. Loved the video!
I do know about them!!! It’ll be interesting when I eventually reread Stormlight 😆
The ending (epilogue) felt very rushed to me. And Lightsong's arc left me baffled. Didn't like how he ended up.
True. The story did seam to end abruptly.
Sanderson is phenomenal.
Loved your honest detailed review
Thanks! Hopefully they’re helpful :D
I just read this and I thought it was his worst, but the review is well done regardless
Am I the only one who pronounces it as "Vivenya"?
I got on the Brandon Sanderson Hype train and have enjoyed all his books but absolutely loved Warbreaker, it's my favorite book of his. (@CinnieRose)
Oh, that’s awesome!!! I really enjoyed it. It’s probably the easiest one to go back and reread :)
I wasn’t able to finish it due to the prose, the very bad “wit”, and Sanderson telling, not showing everything. He has great imagination though, but one could easily tell that he writes very fast and doesn’t take his time to develop great prose and wit.
I’m 400 pages into “Mistborn.” I honestly don’t get the hype - the writing is atrocious and the characters are bland.
I thought the first Mistborn was pretty good, but as an entire trilogy I loved it. Each book gets better as it goes. Saying the writing is atrocious doesn’t seem to be BYU’s opinion as they have him as a writing professor there. But to each their own :)
Michael Barbera please read the ending I just finished mistborn about a week ago and I was thing the same that the story is a bit boring and the only character I really cared about was Ellend but then I read the ending and my opinion completely changed just wow I still think about it and that rarely happens to me
Elliot Brooks, I don’t know how many times I can read about Vin “frowning.”
Lexi L. I plan on finishing the book. The writing just seems very childish to me - especially after you read someone like Patrick Rothfuss.
Honestly, after enjoying Mistborn, especially the 2nd era, I was terribly disappointed with warbreaker...just so damn DULL.
A quite childish book.
I know this is 2 years old but man what an absurd take.
@@bendover7841 I had likely read it. This is my impression. Why is this difficult for you?
