its alot easier to feather stick if you dont put your thumb on the back of the spine. just handlebar grip the knife find the angle where the knife edge barely makes contact with the wood and push. start longer than you think you'll need because the space shrinks quicker than you'd think.

That looks like a fun knife to have.

Mora have their reputation for a very good reason, I started out with a clipper and now have four Moras, including the Garberg. Thanks for sharing Ernie 👍🙂

Good review, Ernie. I love my LMF Mora so I'd totally try one of those if I was looking for another. Thanks!

Dude, you feelin' ok? "No new knives"? I think you better see someone about those thoughts. That can lead to a bad place. 😉

I carry a BK7 so I can baton firewood and fight grizzly bears. 😋
I still use my Buck 110 I bought at the Army PX in 1974.

Great knife, but it's not really your fault on the featherstick. The grind on the knife is a little too much on the angle so that it bites too deep. If you reprofile the edge so it's a true scandi grind all the way to the edge it will featherstick much easier- but the edge will be more likely to chip as well- it's a compromise. I left mine as is because in south Georgia you rarely, if ever, need to featherstick. Plenty of good tinder down here and heart pine.

A lot of guys hold the ferro rod too far from the tinder, put the tip of the rod right into the center of the tinder then strike the ferro.

You can utilize those fine shavings you created while demonstrating the 90degree spine. They catch spark very well. Thank you for the video....I own a light my fire....and I just ordered the spark.

Hey, great review. Have you used that knife a lot? Have you tested more heavy batoning? And the fit of flint, still holds good after a while?

I’ve had it around 6 months. Stands up well to batoning, so far so good on the Ferro rod. I have and use lots of knives so I never use one tons and tons. That said, I have 10-12 Mora Knives I have used Over the last decade and I’ve never had a failure. Thanks for watching!

I already have four different Mora Knives, including the Mora Light My Fire, as well as a similar Cold Steel Finn Bear knife, so no need for a new light duty knife that will sit idle most of the time.
The Spark, and the Light My Fire are very similar, and are decent knives for small tasks.
I definitely would not be using any of my Mora knives, except perhaps my Bushcraft Black for batoning, and even then, only for smaller diameter logs.
If you must own a Mora knife, and want to baton, then it is better to use a full tang knife like the over priced, and over hyped Mora Garberg.
Of course there are many other good budget full tang knives, that are very tough and durable, like the highly recommended Terava Jaakaripuukko, or perhaps a Schrade SCHF 9 Recurve Knife, or it's shorter little brother the Schrade SCHF 10 Recurve knife.
Please note, that after Schrade, or more accurately, Taylor Brands, LLC, was bought out by Smith and Wesson in July 2016, I no longer trust the brand, as there have been claims of quality issues.
All of my Schrade knives were purchased before the ownership change, and I have had no problems with the knives.
Two other good sources of fairly and reasonably priced high quality knives would be Condor Tool and Knife, and Work Tuff Gear.
Check out the Condor Bushlore, Kephart, Nessmuk, Crotalus, or just the Basic Camping Knife, and the Work Tuff Gear Lamigo, Elbrus, or Mt. Bushman, among a few of many other knives that they offer.
Finally, please be aware that I have had difficulty when using the Ferrocerium Rod that comes with the Mora Light My Fire knife, as it does not produce a great shower of sparks, and it is smaller than most Ferrocerium Rods.
It will work if you have something very flammable light a cotton ball soaked in Vaseline, but it does not do well with other dry tinder in my experience, as compared to other Ferrocerium Rods.
So yes, I will carry the Mora Light My Fire as a light duty knife, and Ferrocerium Rod, but I also carry a larger, full tang, belt knife for batoning, and heavy duty tasks, as well as a larger Ferrocerium Rod that will throw more sparks.

You need a bigger house stump to baton on, Ernie. It's weird hearing you complain about mosquitoes when snow has already flown up here. Then, I see those palmettos behind you and remember where you are. I have so many Mora knives already, then I stop by the SRO store here in Indy and see just how many I DON'T have...yet.

99% of people who show ferro rod fire lighting edit out all the failures and make it look like they get a flame every time. Including the one you mentioned.
