I am not a tech person and I've already realised I said DVI when I meant Display Port! (no clue where I got that from lmao) Thank you for watching, let me know what are your thoughts so far on Steam Deck?
I got my steam deck in October and its pretty much became my main console it's by far my favourite place to play indies. I still use my switch a lot too for Nintendo games
I reserved the steam deck last February and waited a whole seven months for it 😩 I play mainly on PC and play both AAA titles and indies. I use it so much because I already play games on my desktop and being able to take those same games with me anywhere is just awesome! Every single game I’ve thrown at it has been completely playable and it’s just so cool having that freedom of choice of what to play now without having to wait for it to be ported. Also being a college student I’m out and about so I play a lot portably but also I travel more frequently now so when I’m somewhere else over breaks I now have a PC I can play on it my free time! I dock it in the living room so often and just play games like a regular console and it works so well for that. Switch remains my splatoon machine though, steam deck will never replace that :P
I have both and love both but I reach for the steam deck more now because the indie cosy games are often cheaper on steam, their sales are usually better.
I have both and I think you nailed the explanation. Nintendo is great for what it does (Zelda, Mario, etc) so I’ll always have a Nintendo console, but steam gives me access to virtually EVERY other game and is perfect for performance in a handheld console. I don’t like sitting at a desk to game, so the steam deck has opened the realm of games I can play now!
One thing that sounds trivial Is I wish the switch had an achievement system. So when you beat hard games or you do challenging feats you have something to show.
YES ME TOO!! I play a lot of PS5 games too and the race to Platinum is honestly what makes some of the games soooo much fun. I really don’t understand why Nintendo has nothing like it
12:54 - You can get discord in the deck in desktop mode, also steam comes with it's own social hub where you can call and chat with your steam friends. This is a certified hood classic
Yeah I just wish it was in the Steam OS more naturally, the desktop mode isn’t very easy to use imo. But again it’s only a small critique, still a huge fan of the console just can’t wait for more apps to be added!
I just added it as a non steam game from desktop and it shows up in game mode. I just added a push to talk button on back button and you can have both a game and it running at same time. you can toggle through both of them from left button menu if you need to change channels and whatnot :D @@CozyGamerKat
Steam Deck's ability to emulate almost every game in existence including the old 70s 80s Nintendo games is mind blowing. It's like every new handheld console is released, Steam Deck became an automatic comparison as if it's a benchmark. And also the community and 3rd party hardware for Steam Deck is getting very big, actually too big for other handheld console to compete.
I love that you talked about the aesthetics it's important to me too and on the topic of aesthetics your channel is very aesthetic and unique which makes it memorable I love the lightening u have it's very cozy ✨ thank you and keep going 💕
I have both. I used to play Nintendo and Playstation. Since Sony started moving their titles to PC, and then the Steam Deck came out, I picked up a Steam Deck instead of a PS5. Now I feel like Switch plus Steam Deck gets me the most access to the greatest variety of games. Because I enjoy handheld, and I'm okay with 1080p while docked. There are some options for shell swaps for the Deck now. I have a transparent purple back from Jsaux on mine. There are some full shell swap options, but they seem like way too much effort.
@@CozyGamerKat I only did the back swap, and it was easy. I think it was 4 screws, then the clips around the outside. Then put the new rear shell on, push to attach the clips, and put the screws back in. The hardest part is remembering to take out the SD card, because you can snap it if you open the shell with the card in. The total swap looks really hard. You need to take basically every board off, and then remove the screen, and it looks just awful. Like people are saying that it took them more than an hour just to get the screen out and then clean off the glue. Basically everyone I've heard talk about it says that it's completely not worth it. Even people who do things like shell swap Nintendo Switches.
Alright, first: good on you for knowing yourself and getting a deck instead of ps5. I was raised on NES, sega genesis model 1, Xbox original. My brother had playstations. We had a wii as well but I was never interested. I stuck to DDR in high school. So, I have the SNES classic edition and a steam deck now. My childhood sega sits in storage protected. I'm going to probably pick up the jsaux backplate you note! I'll probably get hall effect joysticks too down the line. I'm sure my left joystick has gotten some where with the 125+hrs of Brotato alone...
@@JessicaNeidingHaverly from what I've heard, replacing joysticks has only gotten easier on the Deck. The boards are well marked. I want to say that it's iFixit that has a good video on doing it. And the new replacement sticks don't require you to solder to get the capacitive touch effect of the existing sticks. The whole thing sounds like a really user friendly swap, which is very nice.
You know until I got the steam deck I had no idea there was a whole subgenre of RUclipsrs that covered "cozy games". Its been nice to find recommendation videos that aren't all first person shooters lol Also definitely get both if you can, I have the steam deck to travel with and play all my steam titles and the switch for Nintendo's first party games. Plus for me personally the steam deck has better ergonomics. I almost never played the switch in handheld mode. Even though I don't have large hands the small joycons would give me cramps after about half-an-hour.
I think my thoughts at the end still stand! Like if you’re more of a handheld gamer or otherwise don’t have access to PC games, steam deck is a good choice! personally have both hehe
I have both and I am back to my Switch. It's just so compact for traveling and good on batteries. Playing Red Dead Redemption again on it. I am sure I will go back to steam deck again, but for now I am back to my first love.
Really love the work you put into this video Kay- definitely got my eye on your channel. Had my eye on the Deck for a while, especially with its current discount, but I’ve been on the fence on getting one since I also have a PS4 and Switch, and am worried I may be overdoing it on gaming systems. Still, it’s been on my mind a lot more since my current computers can’t run indies very well, and I’m between either the deck or double dipping on some indies with my console setups.
I learned so much! Gosh, that price is a real obstacle, but I so agree with the comments that Steam sales are just soooo incredible for indie/non-Nintendo games! If I had a PC/Steam Deck, I think I would also always grab that first rather than the Switch, even though I adore my Switch and play it daily!
Yes absolutely! I also feel like it just really depends how much gaming you do - like if you're playing indie games non-stop all the time, a steam deck is great. But like if I'm just playing casually Switch is usually fine for that and kind of has all the options you need
Thought i’d give my two cents lol. I’ve had both the steam deck and the switch. i don’t have the switch anymore but i do have the steam deck that i got from my bf for christmas. i LOVE nintendo but i’m a huge retro gamer when it comes to nintendo games. I prefer the steam deck because i love being able to play pc games with my friends without having a pc. i’m a huge traveler so it’s AWESOME for that. i usually play pretty “low end” older games like oblivion, duke nukem, etc. but even when i play a larger game like tower unite it runs super good. and i get the chance to emulate the retro games from nintendo that i love. personally i had the switch mostly for retro games, so i thjnk having the deck is a game changer for me. Thanks for this video btw! lots of love
Yeah I'll probably never be able to part with Nintendo because of Zelda 😅 BUT despite the steam deck being more expensive I feel like in the long term since there are so many great steam game sales you may end up spending less 🤔💕
Thank you! One cozy gamer to another, thank you so much! I had noticed that all the games I’m most excited about come out on steam so much sooner than my switch. I do not wait well. And several only come out for steam and never switch. With the switch being ready for gen 2, I’m seriously thinking I may change over. 🤔
absolutely love my switch, it does make my hands fall asleep (many years of abuse to my hands couldn't have helped). I am excited to see how the steam deck's ergo helps this.
I have both (had the switch since 2020 and steam deck since September of this year) and I usually find myself going for my steamdeck more now just because of the increase of variety in games and the elevated visuals. I agreed with many things on this video but there were also some that I did have differing opinions on. The docks: I personally like the minimal look of the steam deck's dock as it takes less space and looks less bulky IMO. I do wish that it was something that came with the steam deck seeing as it is a $80 add-on to an already pricy handheld. Customization: I personally believe that the steam deck is more customizable seeing as how you can also buy skins, cases, dust-cover charms, etc. With the steam deck you can also download add-ons such as decky which allow you to customize the steam deck internally (wallpapers, game icons, wake-up theme, sleep theme, sounds). Also there is a limited-time option for a white steam deck OLED!!!
Just a tip for the video, its very nice to have chapters in the video timeline so you can jump to sections that are relevant to a particular interest. Otherwise great informative video!
I know this is an older review but I do have one nitpick to point concerning the resolution factor between the two systems. While hardware resolition (pixel density) is the same between the two systems, the functional resolution likely will not be. The Switch often renders games well below the 720p native resolution for a reasons such as performance stability and/or battery life. Thusly the same game across both systems can look significantly different even when you wouldn't expect this to be the case (example Triangle strategy on the switch next to the Steam deck version has muddy/blurry visuals). It seems a point that is commonly missed in these comparative reviews between the two but likely would influence peoples' thoughts on which to buy or at least which system to play a game on if they own both already. I actually think this is a misunderstanding around the switch which explains why people want an updated Switch 2 to have a 1080p screen resolution despite the battery hit this would cause for portability purposes. 720p already looks great on on a 7 inch screen. It's just that many switch games don't render at 720p.
As much as I want a steam deck I’m already a heavy PC gamer and I know my steam deck will just collect dust, BUT I’d still love to have one in my gaming collection 😁
I already had a gaming laptop so I wondered the same thing but I find myself using the steam deck a lot more to be honest. I can play most of my games in comfort on the sofa so unless I really want the larger screen or higher powered graphics I tend to play it on the steam deck. I also travel a lot for work and it's been a lifesaver not having to lug 15 pounds of laptop and accessories with me to pass the time I spend in hotels lol. I can see why it wouldn't work for everyone but I love being able to play Subnautica, no man's sky, or my current favorite Spiderman remastered, and have it look great while on the road
Amazing video! with great comparisons of the pros and cons of each handheld console. I am currently saving up for a Nintendo switch Oled as I really enjoy the games Nintendo has to offer but do plan on getting a steam deck in the later future for games that I have interest in playing that I cannot play on my ps4. The availability for mods, change in graphics, and being able to connect it to a bigger screen is definitely a plus for the steam deck. I am a casual gamer so that is why I'm getting a switch first (also since its budget friendly).
Very good plan and probably what I would do too if I was in your position! Steam Deck will be a nice treat once you’ve gotten enough from the Switch too :)
I imagine so! I've got Stardew mods loaded up fairly easy, the only thing is there is no native Origin/EA Play app so you might need to find a workaround there
Great video. I don’t know if it’s still a issue but the steam deck dock doesn’t appear to scratch the screen and it’s been reported that Nintendo has a dock that can reliably scratch it. I don’t own either docks I just retain my frustration with it
@@CozyGamerKat sounds awesome. If memory serves the switch pro with detachable controllers was a bit wide for the dock. Anyhow good times learning more about cozy gaming.
I’m thinking of getting a steam deck next week. I have a switch lite currently. Steam decks are FINALLY officially releasing in my country on the 19th. Only thing that seems weird to me about the steam deck is its control placement being at the top of the device not at the side like the switch lite is I’m planning on getting the steam deck for third party games and pc games and keeping my switch lite for Nintendo exclusives The switch lite just doesn’t seem to handle third party and indie games as well anymore. Even a game like mineko’s night market. The switch version of games now always seem to have issues Does it ever feel weird having the control sticks in different places? Also this video got a sub from me!
Hi Rachel! I would say I haven't noticed the difference in joy stick placement. Mainly I think it's become it has that really comfortable hand grips on the back that the Switch doesn't have (since the joycons are flat). I would say, it's a lot heavier like I mentioned in the video, so I tend to need to like prop it on my knees or something anyways. Hope that helps, and let me know what you end up going with!
Thank you so much for this video! Planned on purchasing a console soon, and have been deliberating the 2. Never been a gamer but wanted to get into cozy, indie games. Downloaded Steam on my computer and have been playing a few games on there first to really see if I enjoy gaming in the first place. I was considering an OLED switch bc I like the aesthetic, and wanted something I can play on with my little sister. Not many cozy game channels bring up the fact that there’s more games out on Steam than the Nintendo shop. in hindsight I’ve never really been into Nintendo games at all. I love how intuitive and capable the Steam Deck is, and although not as commercial and cute looking as the switch, it would be more practical if I bought the console that I would genuinely enjoy playing, since that’s what it’s for anyways lol.
Ah that's awesome! Yes you're EXACTLY the type of gamer that I think would be more suited for steam deck first! Also in terms of co-op, I can confirm that you can hook up multiple controllers with steam deck too when it's docked :) it's not as easy as with Switch (as it's more designed for couch co-op) but it's definitely possible!
Hi there! Not sure if I’ve commented before. Great video! I have a switch, and would like to get a steam deck one day. They’re just not available in Australia yet. One of the constant frustrations of living here is we often get things later but I guess there are many other greater problems in the world so who am I to complain.
Yeah for sure, really just speaking to the actual price breakdown during that part but it totally depends what kind of gamer you are really - some will save loads with steam sales, etc. like you said
Steam Deck changed the game forever. If Valve start selling them in stores it will fly off the shelves, and the Steam sells are insane I recently picked up Ori 1 and 2 as a bundle on sale for 5.89 yes 5.89 for both games I also buy games off CD Keys so you never pay full price for a game the value is amazing.
I enjoy playing farming and cooking games I’ve played on switch so long. But I think I’m ready to make a change. I have 1 question, does the steam deck games have good stories? I enjoy a good story with my game as well. 😊
Yes absolutely they do!! Most Switch games are almost definitely available on Steam as well - plus you get access to early access titles not yet on consoles!! I have a couple videos on story games if you’re looking for recs 🥰
I'm a massive PC gamer...can't stand PS5 or Xbox and yet...I prefer the switch to the deck. Love Nintendo exclusives,WAY better battery life, easier to travel with, easier to hand off to my son etc. The deck? I'm just likely to grab my 2 in 1 thin and light that has equal or better specs anyways.
That’s so interesting! I feel like the choice really does come down to personal preferences to gaming, cuz yeah totally agree - sometimes I leave my steam deck untouched for months haha but other months I don’t touch my switch, it just depends what my lifestyle is like that month
This was another banger video Kat!!! I don’t know much about the steamdeck and seeing the two side by side was interesting. Hopefully I can try a steamdeck one day! There’s so many games that only have a sub 5 hour run time that would be fun to play in an afternoon on the couch :)
i have both, the steam deck for my fav rpgs like fallout and darksouls(and alot of ps2 emulation) then the steam deck for my fav 2D games that i dont wanna waste my steamdeck battery on
I ultimately decided on a Steam Deck over a switch because I already had a Steam library. But RUclips keeps shoving that Metroid Prime Remaster ad in my face making me regret😢
I have xbox series x and ps5 and the last Nintendo console i had was wii so i bought a switch oled . The problem is the price of the games in eshop are too high even the old games . Steam deck is very expensive in my country almost double the price of switch even the 64 gb ! But the games are cheaper. Im an old school gamer I wish i can play all retro games from Nes to ps1/ps2 games but im afraid that its complicated to play them in steam deck ( i like easy method thats why im a console player lol ) . So my question is is it worth it to buy steam deck only for retro ? And is it easy to play them by emulator? Thanks 🙏
Very good question!! I can’t really speak on emulation (as it’s not something I’m familiar with) but in terms of game prices and access to retro games, I think you’re better off with the Steam Deck. A lot of older games - non-Nintendo IP - are available on Steam already, or are available on things like Xbox Gamepass. Might be worth checking the prices for the Logitech G Cloud in your area too, as it’s a good new option that just came out!
the steam deck is my only gaming pc and i have the ps5,series x and switch and i use my steam deck as my main gaming device and i love my deck the support for new releases getting steam deck support day 1 makes it an amazing experience
Everyone should absolutely get a steam deck, please all please remember that you can play nintendo IP games on the steam deck as well. I beat totk and metroid dread on my deck. You don't even have to pay for nintendo games on the steam deck, they're free to play. Edit: Also to add - this channel is fantastic! Glad I found it.
Yeah I’d be curious to see someone do a proper report on this after scraping some data! Just anecdotally, I find I tend to buy things on sale a lot more on Steam as they do so many events and what not. I think the kind of equalizer though is that you can buy games used for Switch where you can’t for Steam Deck, so it’s hard to say for certainty which ends up being cheaper in the long run
@@CozyGamerKatright now Kingdom Come: Deliverance is on sale on Switch and on Steam. On Switch the sale price is $29.99. The Steam sale price is $2.99. There’s a ton of other examples, but that’s one game I was interested in buying for either my Switch or Steam Deck, and guess which one I got lol
I have giant hands so I prefer the Steam deck. I own the white OLED swtch and it feels like i'm holding a Smaller Wii U controller. I also prefer the Steam Deck just because I am a PC Gamer and I don't have to rebuy games for it. (I'm at 1400 games on steam too X_X ). Only have a Switch for Pokemon and Advance Wars ReCamp when it comes out.
I’m glad I watched this but I kid the switch one bc it’s cheaper n the games are physical bc I would be mad if I get my account on steam deck blocked or hacked
Great video, new subscriber here. Steam Deck for me, because the tech is solid, the company is transparent and provides a ton of updates and support, and I can play a wider variety of games. And I am not hooked on Nintendo titles, mostly play action RPGs,so the Steam library is plenty for me. Also, I’m a Mac person - so it’s my first gaming PC. As a handheld,it’s been comfortable and easy to use for me. Yeah it’s bigger, and the battery life isn’t as robust, but since I don’t use it on planes or away from home very much, and I can plug it into the wall or a power brick at home, so that’s not an issue for me. I haven’t had much luck docking it to my TV, but I didn’t dig in to try and fix the issues. I’m sure I could have made it work.
Oh I hate skins as well. I actually tried a skin for the first time when wanting to customise my steam deck. I'm a little bit of a perfectionist so applying it took ages and then afterwards I would still see parts of it not applied correctly, because that's inevitable I feel. So after a week I got rid off the skin. :') I found a clear case and cute thumb grips. And will put stickers that I found on RedBubble on the case. So I'm very happy with this other customisation solution. Although I still can't wait for cute cases to show up in the future. :)
Great idea to get the Switch used. Lots buy it then sell it because they want something else. Unfortunately there are great cozy games that look better on Steamdeck due to its greater power.
Great comparation! Thanx! Just want to drop a word about dockability. For NS dock station goes from the box but for SD you need to buy it buy yourself. At first -- you need to pay additionally, second -- if shipping is not available to your country buying additional options will be quite more complicated then having it out of the box =) So from my point of view dockability is a weak side of SD!
Yeah absolutely, as I mentioned it's a bummer price wise that it's not included but luckily there are way more Amazon 3rd party versions available compared to switch so hopefully issues around country wouldn't impact as much
I have both. But it seems lately I’ve been reaching for my Deck exclusively. Don’t get me wrong, I still grab my Switch if I want to play Pokémon…but my Deck is my go-to.
I have both and I love both. I reach for my steam deck more for the indie games (currently addicted to kynseed) but I agree, I can't live without some of the nintendo titles so I'd never get rid of my switch :) Great video :)
Excellent informative video. I agree with everything you said, except for the last part, where you state that getting the Switch is the cheaper option. Actually getting the Steam Deck is the cheaper option, because there are way cheaper games on Steam, Steam sales, and digital resellers, than Nintendo games (The infamous Nintendo Tax). So you'll be saving way more money in the long run with a Steam Deck. And then there's also emulation.
That’s such a good point re: sales and cheaper prices for games! Was looking at just straight prices for that bit, but you’re totally right you might end up saving depending on what kind of gamer you are
This is a hard decision for me because both are expensive. I dont want to waste the money only to hate the console 😢 I'm not a pc gamer, I'm a console gamer, so nintendo feels right (since I can't get those games on playstation.) Steam has more games and cheaper ones, too, but I keep hearing that you have to mess with the settings for some games and doing key binds and stuff... I'm too dumb for that 😅
I personally think if you’re a console gamer, nintendo will be a bit more natural for you! If you’re not fussed about nintendo IP games though, you could look at the PlayStation portal as they’ve added cloud gaming to it to make it more useable outside of the house!
As far as i know its possible to call people through steam if theyre on your steam friend list, but im not going to lie i never used that feature. As far as use case goes, i agree with you 100%, Switch games are always going to run better and have more battery life on Switch but as someone with really big hands who finds the Switch to be uncomfortable, I've found myself emulating it on the Deck to pretty good results overall. Granted the battery life isn't amazing and theres occasional stutter, but I'd gladly take the more comfortable grips to play any day. The only thing I really miss with emulation is amiibo support. Im one of those idiots who has wayyyy too many of them, and while I usually never really use them, its still kind of sad to see their potential go unseen. (For example ACNH's Sanrio items are locked behind amiibo cards, which I own, but getting them to work on emulators, while theoretically possible, is a pain in the ass and really nothing like the intended experience) Also games like Mario Odyssey, Skyward Sword or the Mario Galaxy port really do not translate as well when not using the two separate JoyCons. The biggest pro Ive found though is that its incredibly easy to transfer save files around from my Deck to my desktop, compared to the Switch where cloud saves are locked behind the online service I never bothered to pay for and there's no option to export them to the SD card or anything. Being able to keep my save between devices, and knowing I'll be able to continue playing on it basically for ever has got me to put a lot more time into side quests that I would usually avoid. It might sound dumb, but I never really felt like on the Switch the games saves were mine, where being able to just put the saves on a USB and do whatever I want with them really changed that around. Same thing with PC games like Celeste I already owned on Switch. I now have around 80 hours in that game and have done most of the side content, which I never bothered with on Switch not only cause the controls leave a lot to be desired for Celeste but also because it didn't really feel like those saves were a part of my experience if that makes sense. Things like achievements are always fun to give me that little extra nudge to continue a game, and the integration with the overall Steam platform really made me feel like my Steam profile was a lot more of an extension of my play experience than the Nintendo User profiles ever did. It's a small thing, but it really changes how I end up playing games, which is really the big difference for me.
The next "PC" I get specifically to play games is definitely going to be a Steam Deck. I feel your pain with trying to get PlayStation controllers connected properly to Steam. You probably are more patient than me, because I've definitely tried and HARDCORE quit after a very short time...😅
Why The Switch is better 1. Better battery life 2. Tabletop mode option 3. Removable joycons on dock mode instead of needing external controller 4. Physical games and digital games instead of just digital options 5. Less expensive 6. Nintendo Exclusives without the headache of trying to run an emulator with buggy software 7. Sleek (better looking), smaller, and lighter 8. No need to tinker with games to make them work right, they just work 9. Better motion control plus HD rumble 10. Doesn't overheat/ no noisy fan 11. Better customer support 12. Overall reliability (less crashing etc.)
1. Steam OLED rivals Switch battery life. 2. This can be done on Steam deck if you connect a controller. 3. True 4. True 5. True 6. True 7. This is a matter of opinion. 8. You don't need to tinker with games, that is optional. 9. Motion control is superior on the Steam Deck. Vibration is superior on the Switch. 10. Steam deck OLED has neither of these problems. 11. Steam customer service clears Nintendo's by miles. Most people who plays consoles know this.
@@sneekz07 1. Steam deck OLED yes, I was talking about the original Steamdeck. Even then the OG Switch (not even OLED) gets about 20 minutes more battery than the Steamdeck OLED. 2. Of course it can be done with the Steamdeck, but not naturally. You have to purchase additional controllers for 2 player and find something to lean it on or purchase a stand. It’s messy. The switch has a built in stand and the joycons slide right off requiring nothing else. 3. (7) Sure, beauty is in the eye of be beholder. However, I doubt many honest people would say that the bulky and thick 90s Game Gear looking handheld is better looking than the thin and sleek Switch. 4. (8) Tinkering with many games is required to make them work right so they aren’t buggy. You are correct that many games do not require that. 5. I’ve heard people complain a lot about latency of the gyroscope of the Steamdeck. 6. (10) I’ve seen many forums of people complaining about their Steamdeck overheating. You are correct that the loud fan is only an issue for the LCD Deck. 7. (11) I concede this point after consideration, dealing with Nintendo can be a pain. 8. You ignored (12). Crashing is common with Steam decks. I’m not saying The Steamdeck is bad, it’s a handheld PC you can play AAA games on, which is sick. I’m just saying that unless you are tech savvy and already play PC games with a steam library, The Switch is probably going to be a better option for most people. It’s more portable (it doesn’t even weigh a pound), sleeker, and comes with a dock. To dock the Steamdeck you need to make an additional $80 purchase. The 3 in one hybrid concept out of the box is just amazing to me, the Steamdeck is a pseudo-PC shoved in a glorified modern Game Gear in my opinion.
This is a nice pin point but I have to disagree with some of them. 1. Overall yes but the steam deck has a TDP limiter, if you're playing indies or older AAA titles, get the most battery life as those games aren't power hungry, and get it nice smooth gameplay 4. That's more subjective. Some people like digital because it's convenient instead of having to carry around a bunch of cartigages and popping out and popping in every time you want to play a different game. 5. Nintendo switch is less expensive but first party games can get pricey in the long run because Nintendo games rarely go on sale. 7. Looks wise, that's more subjective. 10. Again with the TDP, if you aren't playing a power demanding game, you can lower your TDP. Personally I never had loud fan noises other than regular fan noise here and there if I'm playing a long session, even the switch fans to make sound if you're playing a long session. 11. That's more opinion. 12. My games have never crashed on my deck so that's probably more on the user side.
@@sneekz074 is a personal preference, me personally I don't see a problem with digital as it's more convenient than popping out and in game cartridges 5. If we're talking about console then yes the switch is far cheaper but games wise nah, steam always got some sort of sales while Nintendo first party games gets on sale on a blue moon occasion
Currently deciding between a steam deck for $400 or a modded OLED for $600... I just don't need the steam deck despite it's much better performance because I already have a PC and I don't see myself playing PC games on such a small screen and without a physical mouse lol. But, it's definitely cheaper and can emulate switch games better than the switch as well, but the OLED screen is gorgeous (battery life is also great + light/portable) and I guess since it will be modded (free games hehe....) the price compared to the deck would be similar. I already have a V1 modded switch (it's battery is dying lol), and since this model is rare (release model) I can sell it for around $250 (how much I got it for new), and I looked at my unused switch game collection (unused because I play the games modded for free...) and the entire thing would go for $300 so I'm right in between... Also, even though I've been playing nintendo games like BOTW on PC with much better 4k graphics than my switch, I feel like Nintendo Games are way more fun when played portably... Also the new gold Zelda switch is just stunning compared to the chunky deck. And on top of this, the switch is in it's 7th year and an upgrade or next-gen console is probably on the way so I'm hesitant to spend the money for a modded OLED (though I think it will become rarer and might actually increase in value).
the video is 1 year old, so im going to assume you already figured out you can use discord and that tons of people customize the steamdeck and probably made tutorials about it.
Hello! Yeah I think that it's still not super user friendly to get Discord calls on it, and considering how big Discord is for PC gaming, would have liked it if Valve had worked with them closely to have a much easier way to get the app on the console personally (also I'm sick of using Desktop mode lol it's so not user friendly). But again, Switch has nothing like this, at least Steam has great multiplayer support on it's own so it wins by a mile. And yeah Steam Deck customization is still wayyy harder than getting new joy cons, so I still stand by that one too tbh. But I agree in general, lots have changed since I made this video and I'm definitely playing my Steam Deck almost the same amount as my Switch nowadays!
@@mrwannabe00 It’s chill! You had feedback and commented, so figured you’d want a reply 😌 serious enough for you to leave a comment about it, but you do you I guess
I have both and love both but I reach for the steam deck more now because the indie cosy games are often cheaper on steam, their sales are usually better.
yes exactly my thoughts! for indies, I always choose steam deck
Everything that worked great on Switch is only better (and usually cheaper) on Deck 😁
Am I aloud to ask for indie game suggestions?
I have both and I think you nailed the explanation. Nintendo is great for what it does (Zelda, Mario, etc) so I’ll always have a Nintendo console, but steam gives me access to virtually EVERY other game and is perfect for performance in a handheld console. I don’t like sitting at a desk to game, so the steam deck has opened the realm of games I can play now!
yesssss exactly exactly 👏🏻
Thank you so much! That means a lot!
Ooh I really want to shell swap mine! How did you find the process? Easy enough?
I have switch and I ❤ I’ve always been a Nintendo girl. So my switch has a special place for me but might get a steam deck as well.
You know until I got the steam deck I had no idea there was a whole subgenre of RUclipsrs that covered "cozy games". Its been nice to find recommendation videos that aren't all first person shooters lol
Also definitely get both if you can, I have the steam deck to travel with and play all my steam titles and the switch for Nintendo's first party games.
Plus for me personally the steam deck has better ergonomics. I almost never played the switch in handheld mode. Even though I don't have large hands the small joycons would give me cramps after about half-an-hour.
My predicament is that I already have a Nintendo Switch and I STILL want a Steam Deck 😩
I think my thoughts at the end still stand! Like if you’re more of a handheld gamer or otherwise don’t have access to PC games, steam deck is a good choice! personally have both hehe
The best decision is the settle for both. Do it by settling for the 64 gig deck & No OLED.
You will not regret it
I have both and I am back to my Switch. It's just so compact for traveling and good on batteries. Playing Red Dead Redemption again on it. I am sure I will go back to steam deck again, but for now I am back to my first love.
I feel you! I have the same thing now too, that Switch is just a little easier to travel with being so much smaller
@@CozyGamerKat Hoping the Switch 2 is all I am hoping for. Then I will be happy till Steam Deck 2....I am always chasing that next high...lol.
Thanks for this video btw! lots of love
oh also, you can chat on discord on the desktop mode. it works pretty well.
Glad the video was helpful! :)
absolutely love my switch, it does make my hands fall asleep (many years of abuse to my hands couldn't have helped). I am excited to see how the steam deck's ergo helps this.
yes the steam deck defs feels more natural! I will say it's a lot heavier, so keep that in mind :)
Update! so much more comfortable! Although I have big hands
This is an excellent review/comparison of both consoles! Thank you 🙏 😊
You’re welcome! Glad you enjoyed it!
As much as I want a steam deck I’m already a heavy PC gamer and I know my steam deck will just collect dust, BUT I’d still love to have one in my gaming collection 😁
Yeah that’s so valid, maybe they’ll come out with a new pro one or something that’ll be more worth it!
Look if you have be option, the steamdeck is a no brainer cuz you can play nintendo games on it anyway
This was super informative kat ♥︎ thank you for the reviews
so glad you liked it!
I wonder if I can play modded Sims on the steam deck
I imagine so! I've got Stardew mods loaded up fairly easy, the only thing is there is no native Origin/EA Play app so you might need to find a workaround there
@@CozyGamerKat Thank you! I’ll look into it. 😊
Great video. I don’t know if it’s still a issue but the steam deck dock doesn’t appear to scratch the screen and it’s been reported that Nintendo has a dock that can reliably scratch it. I don’t own either docks I just retain my frustration with it
I’ve never had an issue with scratching tbh, but can confirm the steam deck dock works really well and it has an ethernet input which I love!
@@CozyGamerKat sounds awesome. If memory serves the switch pro with detachable controllers was a bit wide for the dock. Anyhow good times learning more about cozy gaming.
Love my Steam Deck! My sister uses my switch since I don't play it anymore
Where did you get those adorable bear thumb grip covers???
They’re from Playvital! You can find a link for them in my throne storefront 🥰
I’m thinking of getting a steam deck next week. I have a switch lite currently. Steam decks are FINALLY officially releasing in my country on the 19th. Only thing that seems weird to me about the steam deck is its control placement being at the top of the device not at the side like the switch lite is
I’m planning on getting the steam deck for third party games and pc games and keeping my switch lite for Nintendo exclusives
The switch lite just doesn’t seem to handle third party and indie games as well anymore. Even a game like mineko’s night market. The switch version of games now always seem to have issues
Does it ever feel weird having the control sticks in different places?
I love how intuitive and capable the Steam Deck is, and although not as commercial and cute looking as the switch, it would be more practical if I bought the console that I would genuinely enjoy playing, since that’s what it’s for anyways lol.
but tbh I might cave in and eventually get the switch later this year lol
I know it’s such a shame! Hopefully you get them soon ❤️
>cheaper
Doesn't consider the cost of the games themselves. Steam has regular dirt cheap sales. Nintendo games aren't a bargain.
Yeah for sure, really just speaking to the actual price breakdown during that part but it totally depends what kind of gamer you are really - some will save loads with steam sales, etc. like you said
Steam Deck changed the game forever. If Valve start selling them in stores it will fly off the shelves, and the Steam sells are insane I recently picked up Ori 1 and 2 as a bundle on sale for 5.89 yes 5.89 for both games I also buy games off CD Keys so you never pay full price for a game the value is amazing.
you’re soooo right I hope they start selling in stores soon
It’s so changed the game for me! I just was never playing any of the PC games I had until now!
i have both, the steam deck for my fav rpgs like fallout and darksouls(and alot of ps2 emulation) then the steam deck for my fav 2D games that i dont wanna waste my steamdeck battery on
I ultimately decided on a Steam Deck over a switch because I already had a Steam library.
Have you looked the price difference of Steam games versus switch games?
That’s such a good point! I have very tiny hands but the switch feels like soooo small now that I’m used to steam deck
I’m glad I watched this but I kid the switch one bc it’s cheaper n the games are physical bc I would be mad if I get my account on steam deck blocked or hacked
That’s a really good point! The issues around digital games ownership is a little frightening, hopefully we’ll get better policy soon :)
Welcome to the channel! 🥰
Don’t forget to consider games on Steam are almost always cheaper and sales happen more frequently!
I found a clear case and cute thumb grips. And will put stickers that I found on RedBubble on the case. So I'm very happy with this other customisation solution. Although I still can't wait for cute cases to show up in the future. :)
I feel you so much! All I want in life is a cute pastel pink steam deck case 😭
Yeah absolutely, as I mentioned it's a bummer price wise that it's not included but luckily there are way more Amazon 3rd party versions available compared to switch so hopefully issues around country wouldn't impact as much
Thanks for telling Me
you’re welcome!
I have both. But it seems lately I’ve been reaching for my Deck exclusively. Don’t get me wrong, I still grab my Switch if I want to play Pokémon…but my Deck is my go-to.
yes absolutely!!! my feelings too, my switch is now mainly for zelda games for me and backlog
The Steam sales seem a lot better than on Nintendo too!
@@CozyGamerKat When that new Zelda game drop this may on my lord haha
I have both and I love both. I reach for my steam deck more for the indie games (currently addicted to kynseed) but I agree, I can't live without some of the nintendo titles so I'd never get rid of my switch :)
Great video :)
Glad we feel the same! thanks for watching 🥰
Was looking at just straight prices for that bit, but you’re totally right you might end up saving depending on what kind of gamer you are
me calling up Nintendo to rtn my Switch now cause Kat convinced me to get a Steam Deck 😬
LMAOOO i promise I also LOVE my switch
@CozyGamerKat yeah I think I'm leaning more toward the switch tbh I think it's just a better fit for me. Thank you!
Steam deck all the way. I can mod stardew. Only point I need 😆. I do also have the t.v. dock for steamdeck.
soooo true
The next "PC" I get specifically to play games is definitely going to be a Steam Deck.
I feel your pain with trying to get PlayStation controllers connected properly to Steam. You probably are more patient than me, because I've definitely tried and HARDCORE quit after a very short time...😅
I’m so glad I’m not the only one 😂 seriously thinking I should just buy an xbox controller at this point
Get both🎉
Why The Switch is better
1. Better battery life
2. Tabletop mode option
3. Removable joycons on dock mode instead of needing external controller
4. Physical games and digital games instead of just digital options

12. Overall reliability (less crashing etc.)
1. Steam OLED rivals Switch battery life.
2. This can be done on Steam deck if you connect a controller.

1. Overall yes but the steam deck has a TDP limiter, if you're playing indies or older AAA titles, get the most battery life as those games aren't power hungry, and get it nice smooth gameplay
@@sneekz074 is a personal preference, me personally I don't see a problem with digital as it's more convenient than popping out and in game cartridges
Yeah I definitely got won over by that new TOTK OLED hehe
Great video
Great content.
i have a stem deck
Personally I chose the Nintendo Switch out of these two because I live in Australia and don’t get a choice 🙃
o7 Australia
Get both😂
This was useful
So glad!
the video is 1 year old, so im going to assume you already figured out you can use discord and that tons of people customize the steamdeck and probably made tutorials about it.
@@CozyGamerKat oh i see, you mean compared to purchase an gamepad with the customizations already installed
SWITCH all day!!! There's a reason why the switch is at 143 million and deck is at 3.1 million lol
Cringe
Yeah it came out 7 years ago
I like the video but it is obvious you're reading from a script
Okay! I’m not an actor though lol It’s a review video so 🤷🏼♀️
@@CozyGamerKat lol don't take it so seriously 🤷
@@mrwannabe00 It’s chill! You had feedback and commented, so figured you’d want a reply 😌 serious enough for you to leave a comment about it, but you do you I guess
playstation controllers will connect easier to the steam deck, xbox controllers will not connect at all unless u update them via pc or an xbox
